We have classified the 85 complaints from 2008 Toyota Camry about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Back in april the driver sun visor broke, we removed because i couldn't see when i was driving, and then about 1 week ago the passenger sun visor broke also. i called the 1-800-331-4331 for customer's concerns and they said there is nothing they can do. this is going to cost me about $300. this is a safety issue and toyota should issue a recall on the visors. *tt
The trunk has a defective design, upon opening the trunk with the remote and then lifting the trunk lid, the trunk lid does not fully open. this resulted in my head hitting the trunk lid a causing a cut to my head and a mild concussion. i believe that the springs in the trunk do not have enough force to open the trunk fully. *tr

Vehicle dash started melting and became reflective. this is hazardous situation. now it is a stage when driving under sun becomes unbearable and reflection is so bad that it is very difficult to see. dash is completely melted and being poor design. dealer said it happens in 1 out of 10 cars. *tr
Dashboard is defective and melting under the hot sun ,is sticky to the touch and shiny glare affects driving the inside of this car has only been cleaned by us (never a detail) always use a damp rag never any chemical cleaners. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the dashboard melted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Driver side sun visor became loose and eventually fell off. there was nothing out of the ordinary, no roughness, just normal use. loose one day and would not hold in place (either up or down). finally fell off in my lap. toyota said they were aware of other complaints, but would not fix for free because of expired warranty. replacement costs +$120.00. i found numerous other customers on line with the exact same problem. i believe this should be recalled and fixed for customers. why would so many folks have the visor suddenly fall off? *js
I have a 2008 toyota camry se. the issue i'm having is that the dashboard melts, becomes sticky and damage while this vehicle is parked in the sun. i believed that my vehicles was unique to this type of problem but recently a new report showing other individuals were experiencing this same type of problems was aired. i would like to know what can be done to resolve this apparent flaw. *tr
2008 toyota camery se interior dashboard melting, sticky and damage. *js
My dashboard is melting. i have read online that this is not a normal wear and tear. it is a problem for many people that own toyota's . it is becoming a hazard to me. there is a very shiny glare on the dashboard which makes it very hard for me to see out of the windshield. i went to a dealer here in ft. myers florida and was told that toyota would cover the expense of $1,600 for a new dashboard and that i would have to pay for the labor in the amount of $300. i do not feel that i should have to pay the labor cost as it is a defect of toyota. i would like them to replace my defected dashboard at no cost to me. *js
I have 2008 camry and have had a melting dashboard for few years. this is absolutely a safety issue because the melted surface reflects sunlight onto the windshield making it difficult to see through the glare. in addition the melted dashboard could fuse with the airbag cover and cause it to malfunction. i question what kind of chemicals may be released in the air as well. *js
Front bumper is too low to road, which causes bumper cover to come into contact with parking space tire stops, which then pops bumper cover loose from holding clips, which causes bumper cover to flap, drag, or come off when going down road. this has happened twice within 8 months. *tr
My dashboard in my camry has been melting for some time. i had been told numerous times that there was nothing that i could do about it. although now it has gotten so bad that i have an awful glare when i drive during the day. this glare is causing me to at times struggle to see. i have had to pull over and even go as far as placing a shirt across my dashboard to block the glare. i worry that the glare might cause me to get in an accident and if i was in an accident would the airbags be able to function correctly if the dashboard has melted? *tr
Dashboard is melting and shrinking, some of the buttons like mirrors are getting deep inside impossible to reach with the fingers as usual, it is cracking and sticky, you can see cracks and groves around, it picks up all dust and anything that gets to the dashboard. i took the car to service few times but they never talk about the issue, even when it was happening in my car. *js
I purchased this 2007 car new in late 2006. after about 5 years, the dashboard began to get shiny and very sticky. it appeared to be melting. if you touch it, it is sticky and can easily be gouged. no amount of cleaning is able to resolve the shiny, sticky mess. during the day, the dashboard has so much glare that it is nearly impossible to see out the windshield (car has a grey interior with a light grey dash) without putting a towel or dark sweatshirt on the dash to cover the glare. i have never used any chemical product on the dash. no armor all or other products were ever used. i live in southern georgia just north of the florida border now. when i purchased the car, i lived in massachusetts. i moved to georgia in 2008 and the problem started in 2011-2012. this is an extreme safety hazard due to the glare during the day significantly limiting visibility. to date, toyota denies the problem and refuses to assist in resolving what is an obvious manufacturing defect. i have seen hundreds of the same complaints on line and in various internet forums. *tr
Dashboard has melted. *tr
Structural noise coming from l and r front sunroof area. there is a tsb about it toyota has put out, and it is very common. toyota thinks this should be only covered under the 3 year / 36000 mile warranty but it is a structural issue and not a sunroof issue. the welds were not done properly and it makes a creaking / knocking noise. i wonder if my vehicle is safe in a crash?? *tr
A noise is coming from the sunroof that sounds like metal against metal when backing out of the drive way or going around a corner or over a bump. i have owned 3 toyotas and i have never been so frustrated as i am with owning this toyota 2008 camry. from the beginning the car has had problems with the brakes that cause the steering wheel to shake, the sunvisors falling, the rear wheel bearing to be replaced and now the sunroof. i'm taking time to write this because i want owners of toyota to be aware of how poorly toyota is handling these problem. toyota has stalled taking action so that when the warranty runs out than is the owners responsibility to pay for the repair. shame on toyota. instead of spending so much time in learning how to avoid doing the right thing they should concentrate on doing the responsible thing. toyota you lost a loyal customer. sincerely *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the trunk only opens a little when released and it has caused the contact to hit his head, which caused a gash on his head. the contact stated that the trunk has to be pulled all the way open. the manufacturer stated that the trunk is designed not to open all the way and the contact would have to pull the trunk open. the vin was not available. the failure mileage and current mileages was 35500.
Began noticing the dashboard was beginning to feel very sticky & could not be wiped off. it progressively got worse, bugs sticking to it & not able to wipe off. couldn't use sun shades as the bottom would rip from being stuck. the worst, however, is the glare that causes almost blindness when driving. you just can't hardly see & i believe that is a danger & something should have been done years ago about this problem. mine has been in this shape for the last 3 years or more. *tr
Vibration of 2008 toyota camry when air condition is turned on. was told that it was a normal vibration for 4 cylinders when the a/c was turned on. several complaints was made but was told that it was normal. does occur with other toyota 4 cylinder vehicles. only occurs when air conditioner is turned on.... *tr
Dashboard started melting.......and being wet to the touch....very shiny and changing color and texture as well as appearance worried me. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the dashboard had melted. the manufacturer was not contacted. there was no diagnosis or repairs completed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 77,000. updated 09/15/14*lj
I have a toyota camry 2008. i reported that the dashboard was sticky when i went for my 32,000 mile check up. the dealer rep. said," oh don't worry about it, i'm sure there will be a recall because we are seeing it on lots of cars. my daughter in law had the same problem on her 2007 model. both of ours were gray in color. several years later and no recall and a disgusting dash board. it is so melted that in florida with our high bug count, i have to pull bugs and wings out with a tweezer when winter rolls around. the dashboard gets a little less soft in the cold weather, but is still sticky and cannot be cleaned. if anything happens to land on the dashboard, a floating piece of paper, a box in the front seat that falls forward and it either sticks or takes a gouge out of the dashboard. *tr
About a year after we bought our camry, we noticed that the dash panel was starting to get sticky. we tried wiping it down but it did not work and has continually gotten worse. it also creates a tremendous glare that makes it very hard to see out of the windshield. it is definitely a safety hazard for drivers as well as a ugly and nasty eyesore. *tr
My dash has been sticky two years after i purchased my car. i bought my car brand new in 2008. i took it to the dealership and showed them that this is s defect from the manufacturer, but they refused to replace it. my other car is a toyota corolla and the dash is not like this. i feel that toyota needs to do a recall for this. i shouldn't have to come out of my pocket for something that was a defect for these vehicles. *tr
Tl* the contacts owns a 2008 toyota camry. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the dashboard was melting. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was included in a voluntary recall by the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 15,000.
A few days after i took possession of my 2008 toyota camry, the splash guard came off. i was told that (1) i had gone over something and pulled it off, or (2) the factory may not have tightened the bolts enough. the dealer tightened the bolts. a few months later, the same thing occurred. this time, i noticed that the wheels were hitting the splash guard when i turned sharply. i brought the car in and reported the problem but all the dealer did was tighten the bolts again. immediately after the bolts were tightened, i noted that the same thing happened when i turned the wheel sharply. i finally had a free day and brought the car in again and told the dealer that the same thing was happening. again, i am being blamed for going over things in the road and they refuse to look into the situation. i am trying to avoid a dangerous incident. what can i do to insist that the car be given a thorough safety screening at no cost to me? *tr
Driving on back road late at night-car suddenly veried to left hitting oncoming car-then going into ditch-could not control my car-was having problems prior-as car kept wanting to veer to right and acceletor seemed to stick from time to time-car was totaled and i suffered from injuries.i was one mile from my home when accident occured. i always felt like car had handling problems-but with toyda,s quality reputation did not think it was a manufacturing issue. i have a new toyda-still has tendancy to acciler ate from time to time unexpectedly-no accidents or close calls.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. while driving at any speed, there is a glare in the rear window that hinders the contact's visibility. she called the manufacturer and was informed that it was not a vehicle safety defect, but rather a design flaw. the contact purchased some black fabric and laid it across the inside of the window, which remedied the failure. the failure mileage was 800 and current mileage was 1,000. updated 6/16/08 *cn updated
