Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2007 Toyota Camry

The driver side sun visor fell off it's clip and obscured my visibility. understand common problem wiith the camry. *tr

The driver's side sun visor broke. the arm that goes into the sun visor came out of the sun visor. it seems that it broke the plastic inside the visor that holds it in place. this caused the visor to keep falling and not stay in place. it created a hazard so i completely removed the visor. the tab on the bar that allows the visor to snap into place has become very stiff to where it is very difficult to rotate around. the stiffness of the arm seems to be what probably broke the plastic. *tr

The sun visor on the driver side will not stay up. this is a driving hazard as it blocks the view of the driver. *js

The driver's side sun visor falls down and will not stay up. this creates a visability problem when i am driving. *js

While driving down the interstate this morning, my driver's side sun visor suddenly flopped down into my line of sight, causing me to almost have an accident. it will not stay up or pushed back out of the way- it falls to the lowest point, directly blocking my view of the top half of the windshield. i tried moving it to the side, but it blocks my vision here. i have not seen the dealer yet, but after searching online forms i see that this is a common problem in toyota's that they are refusing to acknowledge or accept responsibility for. there are over 230 complaints about this problem on this database for just the 2007 camry. from what i've seen, toyota thinks it is no big deal to pay $100-$200 to replace a part that is shoddy built. however, this is a major safety hazard and the defective part should be recalled in all models immediately, regardless of warranty or mileage. it obviously is something they have known about for a long time but they continue to ignore the potential seriousness of this malfunction. *jb

As i put the driver's sun visor up to leave a parking lot, something broke in the mechanism that holds the visor up and it flopped back down. it won't stay up and it won't stay against the windshield -- it just hangs down above the steering wheel, leaving you with about 4-5 inches of visibility out onto the road, even less if you're tall. i feel very lucky that this didn't happen as i was driving over a bump in the road at 40 miles an hour! it's a very unsafe feeling to drive stooped down to see through the opening or with one hand holding the visor up so you can see ahead to what is coming up in front of you. since this will probably happen to most people after the 3-year warranty runs out and many people won't be able to afford the repair, it's a real safety issue. i think there needs to be a recall, as it appears many people are having this problem. *jb

The driver's side sun visor is no longer functioning. it hangs down. i am reporting this because i have read many other reports reported within this website of the same issue. i do not understand why when there are so many affected vehicles, a recall is not done. i will probably just pay to get it fixed, not much choice, but this is a safety issue, and toyota should be asked to make this repair for affected customers at no cost to the consumer. *tr

When toggled, passenger side window opens with a bang. no matter how many times the window is raised or lowered subsequently, this noise will not reoccur again until approximately 24 hours later. *tr

Cpsc# i1290186a. 2007 toyota camry. consumer stated her sun visor has fallen down and will not lock back in place. *ln

My 2007 camry door on fires when i drove on the street. last evening (5-28-12)around 4:30pm. a lot smoke coming out from the driver side door and my power window master switch on the door burn out and broken immediately. i was so scary, then i parked my car on the streetside and i called puente hills toyota for help (because i bought the car from them,) i spoke to manager[xxx] regarding the incident but they said they can do nothing, the service dept was closed due to the holiday and they never heard about 2007 toyota camry door fires but i told them about complaints filed on the nhtsa according to la times and many other media . toyota has responsibility to take care of my car without any charges due to the defect. my power window switch was damaged. it might cause my body injury and other damages..etc any time if toyota don't take an action asap. especially i have minor child in the car too (i drove my son to the school everyday.) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the sun visor broke and would not hold in place. the sun visor constantly dropped downward. the dealer was notified and stated that they could replace the visor at the owner's expense. there were no recalls or warranties addressing the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that driving at any speed, the driver side sun visor would fall and block the driver's view. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not available. the current and failure mileages were 30,000.

The driver side visor failed on me when i put it down. this seems to be a common issue with the sun visors. this issue can be a potential hazard as it obstructs my view during normal operation of the vehicle. i have to move the visor to the side in order to have a full view ahead. if the visor is left in front of me then it is hard to see traffic and traffic lights in front of me and can potentially cause an accident. toyota should replace this part as it can be a potential hazard. *tr

Driver's side visor has broken and is hanging in the line of vision. this is causing an obstruction of view for the driver whether in the forward facing position or rotated to the left side where it blocks the driver's vision to the left. the visor was not being mishandled when it broke. this is a safety issue as the driver cannot see properly and causes problems when driving and trying to deal with the visor in order to improve visibility of the road. it is my understanding this is a common problem in the 2007 camry yet toyota has not issued a recall for the visors. this could potentially cause an accident. *tr

Concerning the driver's side interior sun visor; the plastic housing of the visor separated from metal arm that attaches to the roof of the vehicle (the plastic casing cracked). the visor was dangling from the metal attachment and obstructing my view, hitting my forehead as i would brake or accelerate. had to pull it off completely to avoid visibility obstruction, distraction from driving, and being stricken on my forehead! *tr

The driver side visor is defective in my opinion which is preventing me to properly see the road. this part cannot rest on the roof but rather it droops down in a slanted angel. the rear doom light is falling apart exposing wirings in the passenger compartment. *tr

The driver side sun visor broke and will not go back up. this inhibits my ability to drive safely especially in bright and low light situations as well as in general because it obstructs my view. toyota will not fix it unless i pay $150! *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, a smoke odor came from the window control panel. the contact then poured water over the control panel to stop the panel from igniting into flames. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 148,996.

Sun visor broke obstructing view while driving.. will not stay up, just hangs blocking view from driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry se. the contact stated that while the brakes were depressed, the front driver's side sun visor detached. the contact also stated that the front passenger side sun visor detached on a separate occasion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

The sun visor on the driver's side started to come off. i thought it wasn't a big problem at first until it started to come off and was literary dangling. although this is a small part in the vehicle, this is a major safety hazard. *tr

I just got in the car and was driving when i smelled something burning. it was at night so i could not see where it was coming from so i pulled over and noticed smoke was coming from the front left driver side door and even through the window switch. i turned around and went back home so i can turn the car off and let the smoke escape the car. it stopped smoking after awhile but now i cant use none of my windows except the driver side. the other switches are stuck they wont move seemed like that what was burning. this definitely needs to be investigated because with a car only 4 years old, this should not be happening. the car has been well maintained. called toyota and the main power window switch is 350, something that i should not be responsible for. *tr

The sun visor is not holding up in driver side. it keeps falling down and causes loosing visibility. *tr

First the driver side sun visor started dropping and won't stay up, then about 6 months later the passenger side did the same thing. dealer says cost is over $200 to replace each one. this is unacceptable. i see in the toyota forums this is a common occurrence. there should be a recall on replacing the visors. it is very unsafe. the visor blocks 33% of your vision. especially frustrating at night. *tr

Driver's sun visor stopped working and became increasingly worse, and toyota wanted an arm and a leg to replace it with another that won't last any longer. when i heard the price to replace a sun visor, i felt like it was a scam to raise revenue. now, the droopy visor significantly impairs visibility, and toyota supposedly has a recall, but my dealer is refusing to acknowledge that my vehicle is included. had to call toyota corporate customer care, who acknowledged that my vehicle is included, but they are deferring back to my dealer and who knows when they'll contact me. meanwhile i have to hunch down to drive in order to see. trying to limit driving as much as possible. i think this is the fourth recall this vehicle has had. i've never owned a car with so many problems. and the light in the trunk no longer works either. *tr

The driver side sun visor wont go up all the way or extend back. it hangs down part way, so if i happen to be in an accident, i'm afraid it will severly hurt my forehead. if i put it down straight, so it wont hurt me, then my field of vision is impaired. all in all, not very safe. i've read on line that 2007 and 2008 camry's are having this problem and i'm not alone. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the driver's side visor fell down and blocked her field of vision. the contact stated that the driver's side visor was replaced two years ago because of the same failure. the manufacturer stated that there was no warranty for the visor. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 80,000. updated 08/07/12*lj

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the sun visor broke, blocking the visibility of the road. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the visor assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 88,000.

Driver side sun visor broke for the second time. it won't stay up, it does not work. dangerous if sun is in front of you. second time this happened to me, it's not wear and tear like the dealer said. hate to spend another $200 if it's going to brake again. it's something wrong with the part, toyota should take care of this, i see a lot of complaints about it. *tr

The drivers side visor repeatedly dropped in the extreme down position, blocking my ability to see for driving. it would not stay in any upright position and hung loosely. out of frustration for my safety and ability to drive, i had to pull it off the flimsy metal holder until i could get to the dealer. toyota northridge did repair at no cost, although i do have an extended warranty. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the sun visor would not remain in place, impairing the contact's vision while driving. the contact stated that the sun visor was replaced previously but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 74,000.

the drivers side sun visor will not stay up. it just hangs down in the way. it was not damaged in any way that i can see. just normal use. when driving i have to either move it to the side to see. this has caused some visibility problems when it is very bright outside and you are driving into the sun. i had to remove it as it was impeding my vision during driving. now i have to drive one-handed in order to shield my eyes from the sun. toyota will not replace as a warrantied item. very dangerous to drive. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the driver side sunvisor will not remain in an upright position and continued to fall, obstructing the contact's view of the roadway. the dealer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that the sunvisor would need replacing. the manufacturer was also notified of the failure who offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 7,000 and the current mileage was 77,000.

The driver side visor will not stay up. car only has approx 43,000 miles and i am already having this problem!!! *tr

The sunvisor of the driver side won't stay in an upward position. it is very dangerous to drive the car with the visor installed, had to take it out. *tt

The driver side visor broke and fell in my face as i was driving. blocking my visibility for a few minutes thank goodness i was not driving at a higher speed. *tr

The driver side sun visor fell down into my vision, almost causing me to rear end another vehicle. toyota doesn't consider this a warranty item and it is not covered, i have done some detective work on the internet and found that thousands of 2007 camry owners are having this same problem, some twice after the dealership replaced the first one. this should most definitely be a recall as it is a safety hazard and could be a cause of serious if not deadly car accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she noticed that the driver side sun visor would not remain in the upward position. an authorized dealer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the contact also stated that approximately eighteen months ago, the sun visor was replaced for the same failure. the vehicle was not repaired after the most recent occurrence. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 62,000.

My left driver's side sun visor began drooping last week. i noticed a few days later that it seemed to be getting lower and lower and was dropping into my field of vision, obstructing my view. then, it began randomly falling, which completely keeps me from being able to see where i'm going or what might be in my path. during the course of a 15-minute drive today, it fell 3 times. my car is no longer under warranty, having a replacement installed is almost $200 and i'm learning that this is a very common problem in 2007 toyota camrys. *tr

The drivers side sun visor will not stay up. it just hangs down in the way. it was not damaged in any way that i can see. just normal use. when driving i have to either move it to the side to see. this has caused some visibility problems when it is very bright outside and you are driving into the sun. or id i have had to move it to the side it impairs my side vision. *tr

I purchased this vehicle from sheehy nissan on sept. 25, 2010, with 89,720 miles, one previous owner and no accidents/damage reported to carfax, after having a state inspection done of all major systems. i have the oil changed at regular intervals (most recently, sept. 23, 2011 at 110,990 miles) and had 100k mile servicing done on july 19, 2011. the engine failed during a drive to new york. climbing the bridge out of delaware, the rpms abnormally increased. i saw the oil light illuminate, turned off the radio, opened the window and heard the engine making loud noises. i pulled to the shoulder on the approach to the new jersey turnpike. when the car came to a stop, the engine stalled and would not restart. the temperature gauge remained at the mid-way point, but a greasy film covered the back bumper. aaa towed it back to my shop, where mechanics said they could not get the engine to turn. they said the oil pump had failed. oil was in the engine but wasn't circulating, and they found fresh oil and metal shavings in the pan. i paid $3,819 for a complete engine rebuild for a four-year old car. searching the internet and this website, i see a number of owners of 2007 toyota camrys highlighting problems with the car's engine, including sludge build up. i have received no information from the dealer about recalls. the used car warranty covered the engine but its duration was 30 days or 1k miles, whichever came first. in addition, the sun visor on the passenger's side continually slips, obscuring the view of traffic on the right, and will not remain in place - a problem i see other owners of this vehicle report. i don't see a place to enter this, but there were no injuries or deaths because i was able to pull out of traffic while the engine was still running. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the front driver side sun visor would no longer hold in the upward position. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed. the contact was however, informed by an authorized dealer that he would have to replace the visor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

2007 toyota camry. consumer states sun visor fell off and into the drivers lap while driving *tgw

Driver's side sun visor has broken and will randomly drop down into field of view while driving - while this does not appear to affect my wife's visibility (she is 5' 1"), it will completely block my normal field of view (i am 6' 1"). i can only see immediately in front of the vehicle when it does this and requires me to duck down quickly to try to see while trying to move the visor away at the same time. this could have disastrous consequences if it happened while merging or pulling into traffic. *tt

The driver's side sun visor broke without the use of excessive force. it flops down whether it is tilted forward or backward. i can't see to drive unless i move it to the side, but then it blocks 80% of the view from the driver's window. i have to lean forward to see my side mirror. this is especially a problem at night. *tr

I have a 2007 camry. my visor fell off and hit my head and i almost had a head-on collision today! this is a safety issue. now the visor won't stay in closed position and it keeps falling down obstructing driver's view. *tr

The drivers side sun visor failed to stay in place after owning the car for approximately 5 years. the visor will not stay up or in any locked position and is very distracting, i have had to pin it up to keep it from falling. it seems as if there is no recall on this nor are toyota dealerships replacing them for free. would be nice if toyota would fix this due to the visibility and distraction this causes while driving. after removing, i noticed that the hinge is very tight which caused the plastic visor to break. i ended up buying a new visor online and install manually. i have loved my toyota and now am very disappointed about this defect. *tr
