We have classified the 24 complaints from 2005 Toyota Camry about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I, robert, was sitting in the car when my wife came out of the store and got into it. i put my foot on the brake and started the car. it took off at a very high rate of speed. the car lunged ahead and steadily picked up speed. the car hit a lady walking with her groceries, then hit a parked vehicle and pushed it into another vehicle. the air bag never deployed. the brakes would not work. the only thing that made it stop was that it hit a large suv. my wife did not have time to fasten her seat belt, thus sustaining injuries. it all happened in a matter of seconds. there was a police report filed. i was not charged with the accident. i purchased the vehicle on may 24, 2017 at a public auction in washington, dc. that means that these vehicles are still being sold as if there is not a problem with them. the vehicle had about 240,000 miles when i purchased it. when we checked the internet, we found that there were hundreds of complaints. beware!!!
While switching lanes from left to right at a stoplight about 10 feet behind the car in front, as i took my foot off the brake the car suddenly, unexpectedly accelerated and my front driver's side hit the rear passenger side of the car in front of me. we have experienced this unanticipated acceleration at least 6-7 times in diverse circumstances.

My wife was dropping my daughter to school bus stop and when she went o get the letters in our gated community mail.box , she was about to stop in the parking space when the car accelerate by it self, causing her injury and car and property damages. she says she couldn't control the car and the car hit the curb damaging the bottom of the car,the hood, front bumper, fender, passenger headlight ,and radiator and condenser and also the windshield. the car airbag didn't come out at any time. causing her injury in her head and shoulder. *tr
I had parked in a parking space and was going to open my drivers door to get out. i had my keys in my hand and was reaching over to get my purse. i suddenly realized i was not in my parking place and had rolled backwards (lot was on a slope) and had hit the restaurants garbage can. i discovered at that point that my car was not in park and the ignition was turned off. in further checking i now know i can remove my car keys at anytime. engine running or turned off, car in park or not. it does not matter. i can be driving down the road and remove my keys.the safety factor of keys not coming out of the ignition unless the car is in park and turned off is not there. date of incident is approximate but i can verify if needed with the insurance company as the restaurant put in a claim for the dent on their garbage can. *tr
While driving my 05 toyota camry(which has 51k miles on it) in the morning to work, my car at first wasn't giving any gas into the engine and it wouldn't start. my co-workers were able to jump start my car and i was able to drive to the dealership after going to auto-zone and a local body shop who were unsure of the issue. the dealership told me after the diagnosis, the throttle body needs to be replaced due to it being "faulty" and clogs up due to moisture getting into the valves. the total cost for the part itself + labor and taxes totaled 1155.99! up until now, i haven't had any issue with the car except this. this is a serious issue if it does not get resolved. what would happen if i was on a highway driving at the speed limits? what would happen if this stalled on a busy intersection? please talk to toyota about this issue! *tr
Car was parked in driveway. the key was removed from ignition. the car drifted down the driveway in reverse into a tree, causing approximately $7000 in damage to car. testing of the car later revealed that the key could be removed from ignition when the car was not in park. toyota is currently investigating. *js the consumer stated the vehicle was inspected and later returned to him. he assumed the vehicle had been repaired. there was no mention of the inspection or what had been done to his vehicle. on may 27th, the consumer's wife was driving and she noticed the vehicle suddenly downshifted into second gear. the consumer checked the vehicle and noticed the ignition and transmission problem occurred again. the consumer received a letter outlining the problem was due to spilled soda that caused the ignition interlock system to stick. updated ivoq 07/03/12
I stopped my car at my mailbox at the foot of my 45% incline short driveway and put it in park with the engine running. after getting out to get my mail, i re-entered the car, put the car in drive, and touched the accelerator. the car engine "roared" more loudly than i had ever heard and lunged forward uphill towards my brick home. i slammed the brake pedal one time as hard as i could and the car stopped. i had not expected it to stop. there was no collision, but thank god i did not kill or injure some innocent person or myself. i now refuse to drive the car, which is a real problem for me and my family. i understand your agency has failed to force toyota to include the 2005 model in your recall to install new braking system override. this is unconscionable. *kb
May 21, 2011 after picking up grandkids from school the car was accelerated and lost power when entering i-35 south bound. the engine light on the on the instrument panel was on also. the car had to be pulled over to the shoulder, put in park and restarted. this happened two more times before getting home. may 22, the same thing happened again, so we took the car to auto zone and have diagnostics ran. the message shown related to the throttle control being stuck and the codes were aa1, aa2 and aa3, all relating to faulty throttle control parts. may 23, called toyota to file a complaint and hopefully get assistance. we were denied assistance since our we do not maintain service through a toyota dealer and the car is 10,000 miles out of power train warranty. fowler toyota charged us $1061.00 to diagnose, and repair the electronic throttle control system. our car is a 2005, toyota camry. vin[xxx]. the problems occurred each time the accelerator was depressed. the car would just lose power and die, the engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel. car would have to be put in the park position and restarted. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Lag time on accelerating, also when coming to a stop does not downshift smoothly and properly, rather it stutters and clunks. this has been an ongoing problem for years. the vehicle is stationary as well as in motion at any speed there is a hesitation before accelerating. stopping the vehicle fails to down shift in a smooth decline of gears. possible electronic problem with the breaking ! possible electronic accelerator unit !
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota camry. the contact was driving approximately 10 mph when she began to hear a clicking noise coming from underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where the transmission was replaced. the failure did not recur. the failure and current mileage was 80,558.
2005 toyota camry le. approximately 1 to 2 seconds after shifting into reverse, engine went into high rpm and accelerated out of garage. driver already had foot on brake pedal and braked hard leaving skid mark (from right front tire) of approximately 24 - 30 inches in length on coated garage floor. right side mirror was ripped from car. required approx. 10 feet to stop. engine did not remain at high rpm. (a/c may have been "on". engine was "cold" - i.e., 1st time started that day; however ambient temperature was in mid-upper 70's.) later that same morning, the engine again went to high rpm shortly after shifting into reverse to back out of parking space. driver was prepared and able to immediately stop car. air conditioning was not engaged this time. took car to original dealer same day. dealer states no fault codes in computer. "some" carbon build up on throttle body. performed safety check inspection. serviced/cleaned throttle body, fuel injectors, replaced transmission fluid, and cleaned/adjusted rear brakes. in the 3 days since the original incidents and service, phenomenon has not repeated. car has approx. 62kmiles and has received all warranty and regular, prescribed service at original dealer on schedule. car has had no major repairs during its history. *tr
My 2005 toyota camry xle v6 car has serious transmission issues. it hesitates and takes several seconds at slow speeds to find a gear to shift into. the engine revs and the rpms increase but the transmission does not engage. this is especially troublesome when making turns and makes me vulnerable to being rear ended in right hand turns, but exposes me to being broadsided in left hand turns. just last week during a left turn my car would not engage and i was extremely close to having the passenger side where my child sits hit! this car also bucks several times when attempting to shift at speeds between 25-35 mph. this car has trouble climbing small hills and also jerks and downshifts when going down hills, even at slow speeds when my foot never lets pressure off the gas pedal. as i said the most troublesome issue is when it has difficulty selecting a gear at lower speeds. more than just an annoyance, it is indeed a safety issue and i am now afraid that i may be hit on the passenger side during left hand turns. this happens every day that i drive my camry. when telling the dealer the first time of these issues he basically said get used to it. the next time i took my camry in for service and complained again about the issue they said there was a service bulletin put out by toyota about resetting the computer and they then performed this maintenance. fortunately i did not pay for this service as it did nothing to help remedy the situation. i will be taking it in for another oil change soon and complaining yet again about this issue! *tr
I have a 2005 toyota camry and i have been complaining about the transmission shifting since about 6 months after i bought it. they told me that they would reflash the computer that controls it and that should fix the problem. it has not. am i going to have a run away vehicle next? the car drags and then goes fast. they did not seem to do anything, but give me lip service. *tr
Own a 2005 toyota camry le. started vehicle backed up 10 feet and when put vehicle in drive to go forward the vehicle accelerated as if it was in a drag race and with foot on the brake rammed into a concrete wall. *tr
I own a 2005 toyota camry and since i bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . for example when i stop at a traffic light and i begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and i could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . another problem that i have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after i get a bump i have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,i even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. all this complaint was given to toyota in priors calls i made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong. *tr
I have a 2005 camry. the car started off fine and within a minute it did not accelerate even with the gas pedal down all the way. the engine check light was on and i let it idle for 10 mins. it started running fine and there was no longer the check engine light. now the car was able to accelerate. 4 days later, i stopped at a traffic light and made a turn to the left and the car slowed down and did not accelerate thereafter. *tr
Constant "jumping" at stoplights. i always have to check to see if someone has bumped into me from behind. this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the car in 2005. *tr
On or about jan. 25, 2010, i was parking my 2005 toyota camry on the street in front if my house. as i put it into reverse to back into the parking space, it suddenly surged backward incredibly fast. the only thing that stopped it was the car parked behind me. no damage was visible on the other car; but my bumper was scratched and cracked. it scared me. *tr
Driving on snow packed roads to salt lake city. at around 65 miles of driving the transmission went out in my toyota camry. we had no warning at all, until the car woud no longer drive and the inside was filling up with smoke. we had to have the camry towed to a repair shop and then towed back to vernal ut. we took it to a transmission repiar shop and they told us, that a rod had come out of the transmission and the only way it would do that, is to go from a wet road to a dry road. we were on snowy roads the whole time. we have not replaced the transmission, since it will cost us nearly $5,0000. we don't have that kind of money and it is not our fault. we feel that this is a manufactor defect on the transmission. now i have a 2005 camry, that i can not drive and am still paying for. if we would have had any indications of the transmission going, we would have taken care of it. but as i said we had no warning. the car just quit going.
I have been a loyal toyota owner for 20 years and i would like to tell you about my latest experience with my 2005 toyota camry. after 91,000 miles, i needed to get a new transmission. i typically drove my toyota to 150,000 miles and never had any problems with the power train. i contacted toyota customer service, they initially said they might be able to help me but never followed up. i tried to contact customer service, but could not get through. i recently had my car repaired for $3300 at aamco to get it drivable. they had to fix the transmission and the wiring to get the car working again. several electrical connectivity issues existing; and still remain. the only good news was the ecm was operating correctly. now that aamco fixed my car, i've noticed that my cars about 400 - 600 rpm lower than before. other problem with the car include dash lights going out after 4 years. clearly this is not a good situation when it takes several hundred dollars of labor to replace a $2 light bulb. the lights that are out are the fan speed, heat dial and the lights on the dashboard for the shift indicator. i believe there is an electrical issues with the 2005 toyota camry that also need investigation. *tr
I was in a multi-storey car park and i spotted a free space 20 yards ahead. i took my foot off the accelerator, and the vehicle begun to lose speed normally. i applied the brake gently to turn right into an empty spot. i was braking to a halt at an appropriate distance from a retaining wall when suddenly, with no warning, the toyota lurched forward at an incredible rate of acceleration, struck the wall then bounced back several feet and the engine cut out. i suffered severe neck trauma, due first to the sudden acceleration and then the impact. the airbag did not deploy despite the fact that the damage to the front of the car was according to an expert consistent with an impact speed of 30 to 35 mph. earlier in the same trip, i was stopped at traffic lights with the car in drive and my foot on the brake. suddenly the car vibrated and lurched against the brake, trying to move ahead. i had to brake hard to prevent it from doing so. the lights changed and i proceeded towards the parking garage where the accident described above subsequently occurred. the damage to the front of the car has not yet been fixed and the car has not been used since the accident. i reported this accident to toyota customer service who arranged for someone from their local service company to examine the vehicle at the body shop where it was located. the main conclusion of their examination was that they found no problem with the brakes. in fact, my complaint was not about the brakes, which had always worked perfectly normally. their report also said "we are happy that you did not sustain injuries in this incident". i am sorry to inform them that i am still suffering from severe back and neck pain from the injuries that i sustained. *tr
Own a 2005 toyota camry xle v6. transmission hesitation, heated seats work occasionally, most power windows don't operate properly, and lots of squeaks and rattles. vehicle only has 25,000 miles, very well maintained. dealer says that all problems are normal. i bought a toyota because they were supposed to be the best. this was the first import car for me, and will be the last. i will be returning to ford. i never had any problems like this on my taurus with 200,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into gears on an intermittent basis. the contact would depress the brake pedal several times until the vehicle would shift. the dealer advised that the gear shifter was defective. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where she was advised that the failure was caused by the brake light switch. the vehicle was repaired at the repair facility. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and the current mileage was approximately 60,000.
2005 toyota camry, 39,000 miles. have had all historical service done at toyota dealerships, so everything that needs to be done over the years has been done to maintain vehicle. car stalling constantly. needs new throttle body, $1200 to fix. for a college student, i don't think so. but, have to get it replaced if i want to drive my car. this problem is sited all over the internet in camrys. toyota really needs to step up to the plate. *tr
2005 camry delays, then lurches forward, when accelerating from under 10 mph. when car is driven above 10 mph then is decelerated to under 10 (i.e. to make left turn) then accelerated, the engine will rev and after a .25 to .5 second delay the transmission catches and throws the car forward. *tr
I have a 2005 toyota camry se v6 3.3l . 31,000 miles. purchased new. since new this vehicle has had an intermittent problem with the transmission shifting. it seems to get confused on what gear to shift into when you let off the accelerator at speeds between 20 and 45. you can feel the transmission jump back and forth between gears. it is not suttle at all. it feels like the trans is on its way out. i know quite a bit about cars, enough to know eventually this trans will fail if it continues to have this problem. this car like many other newer vehicle shifts when the computer tells it to, and it also has what they call "throttle by wire" acceleration control, which means the acceleration is also controlled by computer and not by a cable connected to the pedal like cars always had been. i believe the combination of these two things is exactly what causes this problem. twice i have talked to someone at the dealer. once they told me some vehicles vin #'s are qualified for a computer software upgrade to resolve this issue and others vin#'s are not. today i called and the service guy and he told me there is no such recall at all and he hasn't had anyone complain about this issue. also, my mom has a 2006 v6 camry and has the exact same problem with her car. i have driven it. exact same thing. so far that is 2 for 2. aamco looked at my trans fluid today and said it looked unusually dirty and is beginning to burn which will eventually cause complete failure. aamco can do warranty work. they are more willing to find a real problem with your transmission. the dealer does not want fix you trans under warranty! *tr
Hesitation in acceleration after depression of accelerator. car will eventually respond but only after a second or two. upon pulling into a parking space with the intent of moving slowly up to the bumper curb it can suddenly surge (jump) ahead uncontrollably. if the driver is waiting in a left hand turn lane awaiting for time to make a safe turn in front of oncoming traffic it is very dangerous to assume that your car will proceed when applying the accelerator so that you can proceed through the turn in front of the traffic or will the car hesitate momentarily and then surge ahead just in time to be broadsided by the oncoming car. this car is dangerous!! i do not want anyone to be forced to drive this car.. we have had two incidents in parking spaces where the car has surged ahead and we caused damage in on case to the car in the opposing space where we bumped a shopping cart into the opposing car. that one caused damage to the car that we hit which we paid for and damage to our car. the second time my while moving into a parking space with a sign at the end of the space we surged into the sign causing $700 worth of damage to our car. i have had three trips to the toyota dealer where they informed me that the car is performing to specifications. they could only state that they thought it might be driver error. i even went to arbitration with the same result. i simply do not buy this result. i also own a '07 ranger which performs perfectly and my driving habits are exactly the same in both vehicles. *tr
My wife was driving at a speed of no more than 15 mph off of our housing estate on and heading towards a main road. the road was icy and my wife is a cautious driver who would not be driving at excessive speed. as she approached the junction she applied the brakes to stop the car at the junction the car did not seem to slow. she made a split second decision to turn right on to a cul-de-sac rather than go across the main road. she ended up driving across the cul-de-sac before hitting a lamp post and then driving into a neighbors garage door where the car finally stopped. my wife was not injured although the car was heavily damaged, the air bags did not deploy. there were visible skid marks on the cul-de-sac where you could see that she had applied the brakes. the police report concluded that my wife was driving with excessive speed, my wife is a very cautious driver who has never had an accident in 20 years. when interviewed by the police she was not sure exactly how this could have happened it happened so all she could do was agree with the police report. given the media attention with newer toyota models recently we though we should report this. *tr
I purchased a 2005 toyota camry xle- 6 cylinder, new in fall of 2004. at present i have under 22,000 miles on it. during my limited driving of this vehicle i have experienced at least 5 episodes of unintended acceleration. i recently discovered that another family member had a similar experience while driving my car. the last experience happened on 12/16/09. i had a passenger in the car with me at the time. each episode is more violent than previous ones. i have had the car looked at thoroughly by the local toyota dealer. the first time they looked at it was july 6/09. since they cannot "make it happen" they said, they don't know how to fix it. since toyota announced problems i have called them on 2 occasions and have 2 case numbers assigned. the car was last examined by the dealer on 12/22/09. i was told to wait until the recall was official and see if 2005 camrys were added to the list. they have not been. the car is setting in my garage and hasn't been driven since 12/22/09. i hate to think what might have happened had i driven this car as much as i did my previous camry, a 1994 with well over 200,000 miles at present. *tr
He has been experiencing problem either with the transmission or the accelerator. when he start to accelerate sometimes, usually in low speed, 20% to 40% of the time, there is a few seconds the car does not respond, and suddenly he feel a jolt and the car jumps violently. he has to look back whenever it happens to see if someone has crash in to his car. if there is a car infront of him while in traffic, this could lead potential car accident of hitting the car infront of him. he also has to make sure he does not park too close to other cars or the wall. i have help him reported the issue to dealer 2 times many months ago and they said they can not fix the problem if they can't feel the problem. i have also told the headquarter i found numerous complaints on the same hesitation/acceleration problem my father experiencing and i noticed toyota have been telling other people same response that dealer can not fix the problem if dealer can not feel the problem, and dealer have been telling people this is normal behavior for those who revisited many times. there are hundreds of complaints about this issue if you go search on google (using keyward toyota camery transmission problem). one of the website is i found from google result for example was http://www.autobytel.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/2852. it has 27 pages of such complaints . i have also notice such complaints does not apply to just 2005 year camery but against 2002 and 2007 camery as well. with so many cars they sold over 5 years and so many complaints on their transmission that can lead accidents and possibly already did, toyota are making individuals feel as if they are the only one imagining things. a few people said certain stores allow them to do a computer chip "fix," and the fix was not helpful. on top of transmission problem. he noticed paint peeling, rust paint under 15x magnifying glasses, a bubble on dash board. *tr
2005 toyota camry failure is in the nature of delayed transmission response. incidents happen at around 25-40mph, mainly while coasting in heavy traffic, also while in process of slow acceleration while changing lanes. vehicle drops in speed/delays and then lunges, many times making a strong kick/jerk before allowing completion of lane change or acceleration. has caused quite a few close calls while merging into lanes. also, very delayed response while taking off from a stop sign or coasting through at slow speeds at an intersection, car delays shifting. revs to the 3rpm mark while still stuck at 15mph. dealer does not help with warranty b/c they "can't feel the problem" when test driving. have gotten the response "that it is a normal function". *tr
2005 toyota camry xle--beginning in march 2007 my camry began to accelerate from a stopped position. my camry would take off at high speeds from a complete stop and applying the gas pedal. this occurred several times. i took my car to my dealer bill page toyota in falls church, va. the first time the acceleration occurred was after 2 years and in march 2007. i was on constitution avenue, right lane in dc--which either turns right or goes straight. constitution avenue is 3 or 4 lanes each east and westbound--i was heading eastbound. when the light turned green, the car in front of me turned right, thank goodness because as i took my foot off the brake and unto the gas, my car shot forward so fast my brakes wouldn't stop my car. upon slamming on the brakes which were shuddering so badly, i thought my car was never going to stop and hit the next car (rush hour). i stopped short of hitting that car. i was so scared. my service manager said couldn't reproduce and that there was nothing wrong with my brakes or car. he told me that the shuttering is normal when i slam on my brakes--a safety feature to stop the car. computer said nothing wrong. had the acceleration problem at least 3 more times. i was at a parking meter, 1st space. got into my car, turned on the key, released my emergency brake, and took my foot off the brake and unto the gas. i wanted to make a right turn. there were 2 people on the sidewalk, and thankfully they did not walk in front of my car--i would have run over them. my car took off so fast from a stopped position that i had a hard time stopping my car. i immediately took my 2005 camry to the dealer. again service manager told me computer says there is nothing wrong with my car--think computer/software glitch. last week toyota corp said won't fix b/c not on recall and only intermittent, which is the problem. told me i own the car, it's out of warranty won't pay to fix. help! when driving it's like russian roulette! ...
The automobile consistently hesitates when depressing the accelerator. this occurs when leaving stop signs, merging at medium speeds and passing on 2-way or divided highways and accelerating after decelerating. it then over accelerates when it makes up its mind you want to go faster after a second or two. toyota claims the car works as designed. i fear for my life in this automobile, since the other drivers do not realize that this car is a piece of junk. *tr
Vehicle surges, revs when accelerating, stalls when decelerating, have had problem since car was new. now 19 months old. returned to dealer multiple times. they acknowledge the problem, toyota acknowledges the problem. "within design parameters" they say. two contacts with toyota h.o. rep. actually called it a "design defect". told me to "pat the acclerator" when i have the problem. also told me "multiple drivers" will help the car perform better. the vehicle is dangerous and untrustworthy. thousands of others have the same problem. no fix as this truly is a design defect, "drive by wire" scheme. will anyone with clout step up? paid $30000 for the vehicle. v6 xle. junk. everyone admits the problem, no one assumes the responsibility.
I am currently the owner of a 2007 le 4 cylinder camry. at approximately 76k miles my trans started acting funny as if it did not want to pull and was leaking trans fluid. upon taking it to the dealership, i was told that there was a very bad leak (which may have resulted in a bad/defective seal) and that before any further work could be done it needed to be taken care of. the next day i was told that the pump was damaged, as well as, the torque converter. he also stated that the parts needed to be replaced or replace the whole trans. either way i'm looking at a 4k bill which i can't afford and the vehicle is no longer under warranty. i called toyota's customer service number and to no avail i was told that they could not help me. *jb
Tl* - the contact states that on 12/9/06 she driving when her vehicle had power surge the weather was clear. she was parking when her vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped the curb. she contacted the dealership and they are saying that they have no responsibility for occurrence. the contact said that she found several other similar complaints on the internet. the contact believes that the problem is a result of a faulty speed control modulator. the vehicle is currently at a repair shop. the contact also has a copy of a police report.
2005 toyota le v6 has noticeable acceleration problems at low to mid speeds. this is very dangerous. the vehicle has been to the dealer couple of times and toyota currently has no fix, according to the dealer. the problem is caused by the fly by wire. this also causes problems with transmission shifting. i bought this vehicle new in august, 2005 . the problem has been there since i bought the vehicle new and still continues to date. *tr
Numerous occasions of unexplained acceleration and were reported to toyota who reported could not find a problem. numerous occasions of braking problems and were reported to toyota who reported could not find a problem. numerous occasions of steering problems and were reported to toyota who reported could not find a problem. numerous occasions of transmission problems and were reported to toyota who reported could not find a problem. vehicle was returned to toyota under ca lemon law in 2006 or 2007. *tr
Acceleration hesitation while pulling out into traffic or merging into traffic on the highway. *tr
Consumer 2005 camry has a problems with the transmission. *ts the consumer stated from a stopped position, about 20% of the time , the first two transmission shifts will extend beyond a normal time period while the car's engine revs to about 3000 rpms. at times, when slowing to about 10 to 20 mph and then accelerating, about 80% of the time the transmission would hesitate for 2 to 3 seconds while it selects a gear and will then engage, sometimes in a harsh manner depending upon the pressure on the gas pedal. there was no specific time when the erratic shifts would occur. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated at speeds between 24 and 30 mph, the vehicle, intermittently, lost power then slammed into gear. the dealership did acknowledge there was a problem, but stated installing a new transmission was no guarantee that the problem would cease. updated 03/28/06. *jb

About 2 months ago, i purchased a brand new 2005 toyota camry se v6. i have already taken it back to the dealer because of transmission issues. i push on the accelerator and nothing happens...then seconds later (after i've taken my foot off the gas), the engine revs up to 5000+ rpm and stays there for a few seconds. i fear for my safety! the dealer said they had tons of complaints, said this behavior was completely normal, but had two "upgrades" for the car's computer system. they told me the upgrades would fix the problem...and it did - for a week. for that week, my brand-new camry was the greatest! after a week, i noticed it seemed to be slipping back into it's bad habits. now, a month later, i am taking it back again. it is just as bad as when i took it in the first time. i have been close to getting into at least 3 accidents because of this issue. it is completely unsafe, toyota knows there is an issue (they have "fixes"), and yet they keep selling their cars. i bought a new car so i wouldn't have these problems! i spent a lot of money, and i feel like i got a lemon. this car needs to be recalled. *nm
Transmission hesitation when pressing gas pedal. after 2 or 3 seconds the car then lurches forward violently. this nearly caused an accident as i attempted to pass another vehicle. this is a widely known defect that will cause many accidents if not corrected very soon. *jb
I had my new 2005 camry into the dealership (longo toyota, el monte, ca) three times in the first month after i purchased it. i explained that there was a major surge in acceleration while breaking. i also had problems with my car ?jumping? forward while at a complete stop, and another issue with a lag in acceleration. all three of these issues have happened more times than i can count. there have been many times that i haven't been able to accelerate at first, only to find myself trying to brake (and not succeeding) as soon as the accelerator kicks in seconds later, sending the car surging forward. i've taken the car in to the dealership, and each time i was told that there was no problem - that whatever my issue might be, it could not?t be replicated, and that any ?timing? concern was only the electronic throttle ? and that this was completely normal. the issues with the camry?s acceleration & electronic throttle are incredibly dangerous, and were almost the cause of a major accident (my 3 year old son was in the car at the time), and countless other minor near-accidents. i am a safe, 33 year old female driver with 17 years of driving-experience, and only one accident on my record (a man rear-ended me on the freeway in 2003). toyota is such a popular brand, and if there are other camry owners, then none of us are safe. how many people have to be injured or die before toyota owns up to their mistake? i continue to see recalls for other toyota cars, and hope beyond hope that one day my 2005 camry se will also be recalled.*cw
