My daughter was traveling north at 40 mph, and she turned around briefly to check if her little brother was buckled in his seat belt. when she turn back around the car was on the curve and she slammed on the brakes as hard as she could to stop the car, but the car wouldn't stop and preceded to accelerate. she went through partially two brick walls, knocked down a stop and street sign, and the car flipped a couple of times. the car ended up landing on the passenger side, leaving the car left side up. my daughter suffered injuries to the neck, back, and her knees were cut from the glass of the window in a result of the car crashing. luckily, my son suffered no injuries. i am very concerned, why did the brakes fail in my daughter's attempt to stop the vehicle. *tr

my daughter was on her way to school on the morning of 3/28/2012, when our 1999 toyota camry started to accelerate on its own. my daughter tried to stop the vehicle by pressing the brake as hard as she could but the car continued to accelerate. she put the car in neutral and the engine's rpm's went to the maximum. the car at that point must have blown a piston rod or valve, oil was spraying inside the engine compartment. she made an attempt to bump the accelerator pedal several times to see if it would release. the car was stalled on a main street with emergency flashers on. she again tried to start the car and rpm's went to the max and the at that point smoke started rising from under the hood. several people came to see what was going on and tried to help traffic move around the vehicle. i arrived at my daughters location and with the help of others pushed the car several hundred feet into a residential drive way. i have now towed the car back to my home and need help to determine what the root cause for this failure was. i ...

Accelerator is getting stuck repeatedly in my 1999 toyota camry. when the accelerator is stuck i have to either force harder on the pedal or i have to release my foot and then hit the accelerator again with a greater force to remove the pedal from the stuck position causing the vehicle to accelerate highly when the pedal gets released and with my greater force on pedal. i have been running the vehicle like this for sometime but this issue is frequently happening so i wanted to bring this issue to your notice as a safety problem with the 1999 toyota camry car. because of this issue i don't drive my kids in this car and i am concerned about the safety of myself and the passengers in it. *tr

On numerous occasions, my 1999 toyota camry (4 cylinder) has experienced sudden unintended engine acceleration. i detected that this seems to occur when i am coasting towards a light before a hill, that the engine will speed up on its own and begin accelerating the car. applying pressure on the brake stopped the car in most cases, but once i ended up accelerating and could not stop the car until i hit some bushes on the side of the road. it also happens when i was making a turn on several occasions that the acceleration increased on its own. i am reporting this now as with the news about toyota camry's, i believe the 1999 models have the same problem. the last date that this occurred to me was feb 28, 2010, but it has been happening a few times per year for five years. *tr
