Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 1999 Toyota Camry

When put in park, and before consumer shuts off engine, vehicle surges forward, happend 3 times, once it went through a garage door. dealer cannot find cause. *ak

Pushed the accelerator, no response from the engine. engine would spontaneously rev- without accelerator being touched. after a 2 hour rest period the car was again driven the same problem occurred. the rpm would rev without the accelerator being pushed, after about 50 feet the engine check light came on. the gas pedal would sometimes engage the engine so we were able to travel a short distance. it was unpredictable as to when the accelerator would work. it would sometimes kick in while the rpm's were reving and the car would jerk forward. i felt it was unsafe to drive. as we were shutting the car off to load it on the tow truck when thecar was shut off, and the keys were still in the ignition, the automatic door locks repeatedly went off- in a rapid motion about 20 times until the keys were removed. the car has been towed to a local dealer. *ak

Consumer was traveling about 55mph on the highway, she applied gas pedal to speed up, and vehicle started to roar and slowdown. consumer was trying to get over to the shoulder of the road, but vehicle stalled and was hit by oncoming truck. vehicle was in the shop for a month and a half. mechanic told consumer that she needed a new transmission. *ak

When putting vehicle in reverse car will jump backwards, and consumer is very scared to drive car. *ak

The vehicle experienced sudden acceeration as the consumer shifted the vehicle from reverse to drive, the consumer pulled the emergency brake but the vehicle continued to accelerate and the engine began to smoke as she applied the brake and turned off the engine, the vehicle hit a fire hydrant and came to a stop, the consumer contacted the dealer about recall 01v-012 but was told that her vehicle was not included, consumer believes a wider recall may be necessary. nlm

Vehicle suddenly accelerated, resulting in a minor collision. driver sustained minor injuries, and vehicle was totaled. manufacturer has been notified. *ak

While driving at 25 mph took foot off of the brake pedal and vehicle accelerat consumer applied the brakes again, and vehicle kept accelerating. engine check light came on and won't go off. also, driver's side shoulder belt wasn't working.*ak

Unexplained acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear at 2800 rpm. the car will not stop in a safe distance.

2 years ago, more or less, i adjusted the driver's seat and the steering wheel of my 1999 toyota camry le. since that time, on occasion, i am unknowingly turning on the cruise control which is a button on the end of an arm off the steering column. i cannot reset the seat and steering wheel position to fit me but i am very worried that having the cruise control operating my car when i don't know it may be a very dangerous situation for me and my car. *tr

All of a sudden vehicle went full throttle, causing owner to lose control o vehicle and crashed into another vehicle then into a brick wall. applying brakes had no affect on stopping vehicle. the problem was reported to manufacturer. *ak

The vehicle after cruise control was set reponded with a continuing of sudden acceleration. none of the operational control selections/accelerate/ set/coast/off/resume and accelerate. when activated would not alter the cars internal control. the engine was turned off, then turned back on and still nothing happeneed. the automatic gear shift was moved to neutral and the engine went immediately to high rpm's (above 5,000 rpm). there were two incidents of sudden acceleration that on 2/03/99 one was on the freeway. the second was in heavy traffic flow just after peak hour. weather and driving conditions were very goodto excellent..
