Problems with 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 122 209 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Driving on freeway at approximately 45 miles per hour during rush hour. brake lights appeared ahead, so i applied brakes. my vehicle failed to stop or slow down and i noticed increased resistance on the brake pedal. i continued to apply pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle eventually stopped. luckily, there was a good distance between me and the car ahead of me, and i was eventually able to stop and avoid collision. i brought the car to the shop to be checked out. the shop called toyota, and they knew right away exactly what part needed to be replaced. price tag of $2600 for just the part. a week prior to this incident, dash lights came on with warning to "check vsc system". brought the car in for oil change and to check the warning light. no problem was detected, the warning light was reset. this light had come on again just prior to the brake failure. *tr

April 5, 2014' brake actuator malfunction. the visual of this problem occurred on three separate occasions while driving at varying speeds. on each occasion the emergency brake light came on and within a few minutes many of the warning/emergency lights (engine check, abs, vcs, brake, etc.) on the dashboard came on. the brakes then became very spongy to the point i had to press very hard to get the camry to stop. it could have been disastrous if i had had to stop to avoid a crash. after the first occurrence, i took the camry to tejas toyota to have it checked. the diagnostic information from the computer indicated nothing was wrong. i was instructed by the toyota service manager to bring it in while it was happening, if possible, so they could see what was going on. on april 5th, the problem occurred again and we drove it directly to tejas. the problem was still occurring when they connected their computer to check the vehicles onboard computer. their computer diagnosed the brake actuator assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced, and due to the faulty actuator, the brake pads on the both front and rear had to be replaced and the braking system flushed. the cost of the actuator with labor to install was over $3,500, total bill almost $4,200. tejas personnel did a great job repairing the problem and getting the vehicle back to me. i called the toyota main customer service number and spoke with one of their representatives, [xxx]. he created case # 1404141818 and i was instructed to fax (not email but fax) a copy of the invoice i received from tejas to him. which i did. he spoke to the higher ups in toyota and called me back today (4/16). toyota management denied it was their responsibility to pay the repair costs because the vehicle was past the initial warranty period. i believe toyota is responsible due to faulty design of their actuator. The check vsc system on. vsc, abs & brake lights lit up. went to the dealer to computer diagnose, they said there is a few code. they want to be pay first before they will give me an estimate for the repair. so i went to a outside repair shop for diagnose cost $35. they said the brake actuator need to be replace. will cost $2000.00. now the abs & traction control is no working. i am afraid this car will cause accident or kill someone. *tr

On this date i was riding down the street from my home and all of a sudden my vsc system and all the lights relating to my brake system came on...then as i was approaching a traffic light i began to apply the brake but my brakes went all the way to the floor...when the light changed i began to proceed through the light....by the time i reached my destination..i began to apply the brakes and again they went all the way to the floor...but at this time there was a loud clicking noise....i took my car to yokem toyota where i purchased it....and when they were done running the diagnostic test, the service manager told me that my brake actuator had gone out....and to repair it was going to cost 3341.00....3000 for the part and 341.00 for the labor... *tr

I was driving on the freeway, when the vsc and abs warning lights came on. i noticed a loss of braking power. the brakes "pop" when i depress the petal upon starting. i have noticed the brakes jerk on two occasions. i am concerned about my safety when i drive the vehicle, but cannot afford to repair it at this moment. the replacement part alone is over $2,100. on a side note, i previously owned a 2009 camry xle that had the same problem. *tr

Travelling about 30 mph i stepped on the brakes. brake pedal felt 'hard' and car barely decelerated, nearly hitting another car as a result. just missed car, but very shaken i took it to a nearby shop. they said the brake accumulator was failing, that part would be about $2600 and labor over $300. *tr

Apparently my brakes lost significant brake pressure and i thought i might crash. further when i start my car the brakes do not fully kick in until 5-10 seconds later so i tend to roll forward or backwards. i took the car to three dealerships and they all said my abs actuator was bad and needed to be replaced. the part costs $2,600 just to buy from toyota and then coast an additional $800 in labor to install. that is insane. i looked on the internet and her are tonsss of camrys with this problem. clearly this as a design flaw and i should not have to pay to replace a part that toyota failed to design safely. not i can't safely drive with the broken part.... *tr

I have been using this camry since mid 2006. so far it has not had many major issues. however out of the blue on march 23rd 2014, when i was planning to drive to a temple almost 50 miles from my house with my wife, 2 month old daughter, mother and mother-in-law in the car, just as we pulled out of the drive way, the check vsc message came on and the brake light, the car slipping light and the bas lights came on the dash and as i tried to brake, the brakes completely failed. luckily since i was only rolling out of my drive way (in reverse), the car only rolled a little bit and there was no cross traffic on the road. i had to press my parking brakes to bring the car to a halt. i was scared to death with my family members in the car there was no way i was driving it in that condition. i tried shutting off the car and waiting for 5 minutes before turning it on.the message came on again and the brakes were unresponsive. i immediately moved my family to another car to continue our trip. i then cautiously moved the car back on to the driveway with my left leg on the emergency brakes so that i don't run into my house. after searching the web and seeing many such reports, the next day (today 3/24) i tried to move the car again and see if the message disappeared. however it was there and when i reversed a little bit, suddenly the message and the lights disappeared and the brakes were working as normal. i am still not driving the car, thankfully i have 3 cars so i am using the other cars. i hope toyota does a recall on this because i don't want to spend $3500+ on a car that may not be more than $8000 value today. i was planning to get a 2014 sienna soon but reading about the safety issues with toyota's my faith and loyalty in this brand is now severely shaken. *tr

As i was slowing down to pull into my driveway my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the car lost braking power for a moment. as this happened i heard a pop from the front of my car and a sound like an actuator pumping. after a split second of no brakes, the car did stop abruptly (although scary that i lost brake pressure). i opened the hood and found the brake actuator pumping even after the car was off. i also heard a leaking noise like the brake line had a pressure leak. i started the car, leaving it in park, and pressed the brake pedal down and about halfway down it would pop and go all the way to the floor. after this the actuator would start pumping again. i'm somewhat mechanically inclined and my opinion is that the actuator's seals or lines are leaking causing the system to depressurize. as long as the actuator can keep up with the brake pressure, all is fine, but if the actuator can't keep up the car loses brake pressure (like what happened to me). this has been a culmination of about 3 months of very strange crunching, whining and whirring noises coming from the front of the vehicle. i have been watching the problem and finally after my brakes failed, i did some research on the problem and found that the nhtsa is researching this problem. please be an advocate for us to toyota. this could result in a fatality and they should fix this problem. i am afraid to drive my car now and i'm not sure i can afford the $3,000 price tag to fix the brakes. *tr

We'll this has been happening for several months. my whole dash is lit up with brake warnings and check vsc on my information panel. a loud solid beep comes and goes. it stays more than it's gone today. basically from time to time my brakes just won't work properly. they are hard to push and it's almost as if it's pumping itself. then , when the abs starts to work, there is a loud thud and a jerk that feels as if as if i am being rear ended. i never know when my brakes are going to work properly. sometimes i have come close to hitting someone, running through red lights, because when they aren't working properly, the stop time is way longer. it is a very scary thing. i will be paying to have my car repaired next week. it is going to cost me 3500 dollars. which 3300 is the part.. this part has been redesigned, that in itself speaks volumes as to weather or not toyota knows what is going on. i have also read that this part for this car is under investigation by the nhtsa. as of now my only hope is to recover my losses if there is a recall. there should be!!! this is very unsafe and not at all normal. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph and applying the brakes, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the brake actuator assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover part of the repair costs. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 86,000.

This complain is on behalf of my wife's camry hybrid, same issue i had in my 2009 camry hybrid few years back, sudden warning lights on dash and brake failure resuming normal operation few seconds or minutes later without leaving any trace for tech to see, if it was cheaper for gm not to recalling $.50 part i sure toyota would not want to recall $1700 part, please look into it i have the old defective part available for testing if necessary. *tr

Master, brake, electronically controlled brake, anti-lock brake, and slip indicator warning lights came on as well as 'check vsc system light. *tr

I was driving on the service road of the interstate highway approximately 20 mph. i felt the car jerk forward slightly followed by numerous warning indicator lights including brake light, check vsc system and abs. i immediately tried to brake because there was a car approximately 10 feet in front of me. the brake pedal would not depress. it felt as if the brakes had gone out. the lights then disappeared a few minutes later and brakes worked properly. i had just purchased the car six days earlier. interestingly, when i test drove the car, the same event happened, but i was tapping my brakes during a slow right turn yielding to traffic, and didn't notice the loss of brakes. 2 events in 6 days. my car is now at the toyota service center. i am afraid to drive it with this intermittent brake issue. i have to believe based on reading other complaints and recalls that toyota is aware of this issue and isn't properly concerned about expediting the recall. this is a serious issue with potential deadly consequences. i hope the recall is issued soon. my car is not drivable in it's current defective condition. *tr

I was driving my 2007 toyota camry hybrid and went to brake and my dash emergency lights, brake light, check vsc light, abs, and traction control light went on and my brakes did not work. i was able to slow down without incident. took it to two mechanics then finally to a toyota dealership. the toyota dealership could not fins anything wrong with it and sent me on my way. two weeks later it happened again. my wife was driving just over 40 mph and applied the brakes and they did not work. she was able to swerve into a parking lot and cruise to a stop. the brakes work intermittently and come and go. moving the car to a parking spot a few minutes later the brakes did not work when i started to move the car, but while moving it the warning lights went off and the brakes started to work again. this is a recurring problem that you do not know when the brakes will go out. the is a serious issue that needs to be looked at immediately. *tr

I applied a very fast pumping of the brake to slow vehicle while in accelerating traffic lane. traveling only about 25 mph, attempting to distance myself from vehicle in front of me that was accelerating more slowly than what i was anticipating, the vehicle began alarming and the entire dashboard emergency lights began flashing. received warning that the esc needed to be checked, then warned to take to dealer immediately. i was able to drive off the highway; at that point, car undriveable. at the dealer, chief technician advised me that the skid control relay switches remained on after the car was powered off and essentially melted. cost of repair was $3700. dealer was willing to pay half of the invoice based on "good will". i am reporting this after reading this link: http://green.autoblog.com/2014/01/27/nhtsa-investigating-30000-toyota-camry-hybrids-brake-assist/ in no way do i feel responsible for this catastrophic occurrence nor for the repair cost. the fault appears to be in poor mechanical design, but until the company assumes responsibility i am obliged to pay. i am grateful there was no injury or death. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the abs warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who indicated that the abs accumulator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred twice. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000. *tr

Started car up and "check vsc system" signal comes on, after doing research turns out thousands are having this issue. it does not show up on a computer. i contacted toyota and they told me it will cost 2,800. i feel this is an issue they know about because some customers say their replacement part looks nothing like the regular. now the car shakes when it brakes. *tr

For the last couple of months have noticed the brake pedal "pulsing" on starting the car and sometimes on stopping at intersections. then the brake warning light came on intermittently whilst driving but with no impact on the brakes and then whilst exiting the freeway all the brake warnings lights and check vsc system message was displayed with loss of assisted braking. took it straight to the dealership but on braking to enter the inspection bay all warning lights went out. toyota technician couldn't find an error code in the history and after driving 15 miles the warning lights didn't come back on. technician did comment that they'd had other camry hybrids with similar issues and said the abs actuator needed replacing at a cost of $3,400! i was told that toyota are using a different part on later model camry hybrids which in itself seems an acknowledgement that the part is faulty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal was applied numerous times before the vehicle would respond. in addition, the abs and vsc warning indicators were illuminated. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000. *tr

As i was slowing for a stop sign, the check vsc system light came on and i had to push harder on the brakes than i normally do. i turned the car off and after a short time restarted it and the car proceeded normally. about two weeks later as i was driving about 50 mph, the brake, vsc, and abs warning lights all came on. i pulled into a turn lane and slowed to a stop. again i had to push the pedal harder than normal. *tr

I turned on my car after dropping my daughter to school in the morning (around 8:30 am). i noticed the dash board is showing "check vsc system" and the brake warning light is on. i tried to drive in slow speed (10 mph) and pressed on brake but the car is not stopping as fast as i expect. i tried to drive up to about 10mph again and applied brake; the result is same: car fails to stop fast. the warning lights were still on at this point. i pulled over by the curb, opened the hood and visually inspected levels of brake fluid. fluid level looked normal. when i sat back in the driving seat, i noticed all the warning lights are off. then tried driving and applied brake. everything is normal. i scheduled an appointment with the dealership for wednesday 3/5/2014. i suspect something is not right with my vehicle. *tr

On march 2, 2014 i was backing out of the garage when i noticed that multiple warning lights had lit up on the dash, including the words "check vsc system". at that point i tapped the brakes to stop the car and realized that the brakes were not working properly. in order to stop the car i needed to push the brake pedal almost to the floor. i tried driving it slowly down the street and at just 15-20 mph the car was very difficult to stop. after turning the car on and off a few times and pulling it forward and backwards a few times the warning lights turned off and the brakes suddenly worked again. the next day, march 3, 2014, i took the car to the toyota dealer, however they were unable to replicate the problem or pull an error code from the cars computer. i was sent on my way without any repair being done and was told if the problem happens again to bring it back in. i mentioned the formal investigation by the nhtsa for this problem but they were not aware of it. this seems to be a common problem and is very dangerous. i was lucky to be driving slowly when this occurred, which doesn't seem to be the case for others. after reading other cases, i'm very concerned to drive this car. my understanding is that toyota is aware of the defective part (the abs actuator/accumulator) since they have redesigned the replacement part. toyota needs to do a recall for this part immediately! *tr

While driving with my wife in our 2007 toyota camry hybrid on a surface street, i applied the brakes and realized that the car was not slowing down. the brakes had failed, and when i looked at the dashboard, the display said, "check vsc system". the lights for the "brake" and the abs lights were also illuminated. luckily we did not have any cars immediately in front of us, or to the right, so we were able to change lanes and exit on to a side road. the brake system came back online after about 10 seconds, and we were once again able to slow the car down. this was a extremely terrifying experience, and i have since then found out that many others have faced the same problem, on the same make and model. this has happened a few different times in the past to both my wife and myself, but fortunately we were backing out of a parking spot whenever it happened. this prompted us to take our car in to the dealer and asked them to check the brake system. we have also asked the dealer to check the brake system whenever we have taken the car in for routine maintenance. on both occasions, the dealer has never detected any issue with the braking system, and we have continued driving our car unaware of the potential risk. we need to use our car, but are unable to because it is now a safety hazard. i urge toyota to issue a recall and fix this problem immediately as it directly impacts human lives. after researching this issue, i have found that the cost to fix it is between $2500 and $3000. our car is nearing 7 years old, and the cost of the repair is nearly 30% of the car's worth. it is ridiculous to expect a consumer to foot the cost of this bill, when instead it should be toyota's responsibility, due to the fact that this is a manufacturer defect and is a risk to people's lives. *tr

Driving down the freeway in the rain an extremely loud alarm went off and the vsc, brake, abs, and triangle lights were on without my foot being on the brake pedal. the car would not stop and fortunately i was able to slow down without incident. i took the car to toyota on the following monday in dry weather and was getting off the freeway and the left front brake locked up and skidded 30 feet. this time i almost hit 2 cars but was able to steer clear. the dealer told me it was the actuator. this is the 3rd time this car was in for those lights going off and disables the power generators for help in slowing down. it also happens in the car wash. i have never felt the abs work on this car since i've owned it. it always set the code and disables it. it's in the shop right now as i'm writing this waiting for me to say fix it for $3000. ? i was hoping nhtsa would investigate this car before it's fixed to see the problem everybody is complaining about. my wife says she will never drive this car again after its fixed. it was a very frightening situation. *tr

I turned on my car and i noticed a "check vsc system" light come on along with the "brake" light. i made sure my emergency brake was off and the warning lights remained on. i pulled away from my house and noticed that every time i went to brake, my brake felt hard and i could barely get it to move. i got about a mile away from my house and about 50 feet from an intersection i went to slow down, but my brake was still hard and when i tried to brake it failed to work for about 5 seconds until it finally kicked in. there were no cars in front of me, otherwise i would have probably hit a car for sure. i made sure to keep my distance for the rest of my trip. on my way home from work i noticed the "check vsc system" and "brake" light were no longer on, and my brake felt back to normal. *tr

Driving down interstate, all of a sudden the following warning lights came on: 1 - check vsc system 2 - red "brake" indicator (brake system warning light) 3 - yellow indicator (brake system warning light) 4 - master warning light 5 - abs indicator. continued the rest of the 3 miles towards home but brakes did not seem responsive. took to automotive shop 2 miles away where they checked codes and quoted us a repair bill of $3500 for replacement of abs accumulator. called toyota complaint line on 2/26/2014 and was told do not drive car. we had car towed to toyota dealer and are awaiting determination as to the repair and if toyota will cover costs for repair. *tr

Brake light and "check vsc" system illuminated while exiting interstate. braking force dropped by about 75% as if only rear brakes were functional. was able to slow eventually and pull over and shut off car. restarted car after a few minutes and neither brake light nor check vsc came on. slowly drove car to dealership and am awaiting diagnosis. *tr

Purchased 2007 toyota camry hybrid on 2/19/14. on 2/22/14 i was driving 52 mph on a freeway at 0 grade when check vsc system notification, abs, brake, master warning and traction control lights all came on. when attempting to brake while exiting the freeway, the brakes did not work adequately when depressed to stop. i had to depress fully to the floor in order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. it also took over 80 yards to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. i cruised through a red light due to this-i am very fortunate not to have been in an accident or worse, killed. vehicle is now parked in driveway and is not driven. toyota needs to address this danger to life. *tr

I was driving at approximately 65mph on the interstate when the vsc warning came on my instrument panel along with the parking brake indicator light, the low tire pressure warning light, the abs warning light, and the traction control light. i immediately pulled over and did not notice any hesitation in the braking system. since i was on a trip home, i continued my trip. throughout the trip i noticed that the braking became more difficult, in that i had to apply more pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop. i took the car to my toyota dealership where they diagnosed the problem as being a leak in the brake actuator. they quoted me a $3000 cost estimate and informed me that the car is unsafe to drive due to the unpredictable braking. this seems like a problem that many camry hybrid owners are having. i am fortunate to have arrived home safely! *tr

Check vsc system notification as well as the abs, breaks, warning and traction control lights all turned on while on the interstate. when brought into the dealer they need to replace the abs accumulator. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated while traveling approximately 5 mph on an icy road, the abs activated independently and the entire instrument panel illuminated. in addition, a chime sounded and a burning odor emitted inside the vehicle. the vehicle was maneuvered to a safe location where the engine was turned off. the vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician informed the contact that the abs actuator would need to be replaced when the required part became available. the vehicle was scheduled for repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000. the vin was unavailable.

When driving around 45mph, all the brake lights, abs came on. when checked with toyota dealer, they mentioned that we need to replace brake actuator. it costs about $3000. based on internet research, it looks like 2007 camry hybrid have a possible defect. looks like similar part was recalled recently with prius make, i would like to know why toyota is not recalling the other makes. it seems to be wide spread problem with 2007 camry hybrid. *tr

While driving i attempted brake to slow entry into uphill driveway. all lights on driver panel lit up. brakes did not respond to slow down or stop. with full force i depressed brake pedal. since drive way was uphill, i coasted to stop just short of garage door before crashing. this was not the first time the brakes totally failed during last couple of months. i drove to dealership for second time to have beaks inspected. the car was also making loud noise whenever brakes applied. the service manager said the brake system was examined by several technicians. again, they found nothing wrong with brakes and told me the car was safe to drive! despite several recent brake failures, two visits to toyota dealership, the service manager said the loud noise when braking came from the "brake actuator," which could be replaced for $2,900! quote from service invoice of march 18, 2014, follows: "tech 165630 performed diagnosis on brake noise from inside cab of vehicle. test drove with customer to verify noise. found that brake actuator is the cause of internal noise when at a stop while brake is applied. suggest new brake actuator and brake flush and re-test for noise again." service manager and technicians said, "it' safe to drive." i do not believe it is safe to drive. since i am a visiting hospice nurse, that car is my office. i wonder when the brakes will fail again, and when the incessant loud noise will stop. i took the car to an independent foreign car repair shop. they said, "the actuator is the source of the noise and your braking problem. however, we can't get an actuator to replace toyota's part because it is a "locked part" in the engine. only toyota dealers can obtain the part, and only a toyota dealer can install the part." will you help? *tr

My cars brake system is making a clunking noise, and i'm seeing a loss of breaking ability. while at a stop light with the brakes depressed it is particularly noticeable and loud. finally the check vsc system warning came on the dash so i took it to the dealer for diagnoses. the diagnosis was that the abs actuator is making the noise and the accumulator pressure is lower than spec. the quote to repair it was $5104.61. *tr

I was on my way to work driving approx 40 miles per hour, all of a sudden my dash says "check vsc system",red brake light turns on,abs light turns on and low tire pressure light turns on.i immediately check my brakes,i have no brakes! i just kept pumping trying to get anything out of them. i started moving over to my right (nearly side swiped a car) and pulled into a strip mall.after calming down,i drove slowly around the parking lot to see if i had brakes. all of the lights stayed on but my brakes were back,i continued the last mile to work. at this point, as i used the brakes, my rotors felt extremely warped. after researching online if anyone else had had the same problem, i found tons of people having the exact same issue, "c1391". i called my local toyota dealer, explained the problem and what i thought it might be,he took my vin# and gave me a quote of $3200 to repair. at that point,i called toyota corporate offices and filed a complaint, they did some research to see if any of the issue was a recall,of course it wasn't. i told the guy that i guess in order for it to be a recall there needs to be an overwhelming amount of accidents to occur,or people need to die,or a class action lawsuit needs to happen. he took down all of my info, told me i needed to take it to toyota to be diagnosed and then to call the toyota"out of warranty assistance department" for possible help with the bill. i took the car to toyota,it was diagnosed just as all of the other cars i read about were "c1391" internal abnormal leak with the break actuator. between toyota corporate office and toyota they were able to help me out with some of the bill even though the car was no longer under warranty. it wasn't completely covered in the least bit, but it made it a little more manageable. *tr

While slowing down for a stop light speed was around 45 mph i experienced a sudden drop in brake pressure causing me to apply hard pressure in order to keep from hitting the vehicle in front of me stopping but inches from the other vehicles bumper. when the loss of brake pressure was happening i also noticed multiple lights came on and after the stop on the display there was a check vsc system message that will not extinguish. this morning it is still in the same condition. i called the service center and they told me a diagnostic check would be around 105.00 dollars. i have since done research and have seen multiple issues with this and the cost of repair(upwards of 3,000) is ridicules. if this is a manufactures defect and know problem toyota needs to do the right thing and fix the issue before someone has a major accident. this item abs actuator needs to be looked at as the culprit. i need my car to get to work but who can afford 3,000.00 at the drop of a hat and do i want to risk my life. *tr

Abs brake actuator unit not working properly. dealer states that it failing. costs a small fortune to replace. *tr

While drive i hear a intermittent beep and when applying brakes either does not brake, brake pedal gets stuck and cannot brake or suddenly brakes also increased brake pedal effort i had to use the emergency brakes in order to brake at all times because the brakes not works, i got all warning lights on with check vsc system i went to a toyota dealership to check the issue and they told me that the brake actuator pump does not work now in order to fix it i have to pay almost 3500 to replace that part that's robbery from toyota i see from different forums that part breaks on toyota hybrids easily and still toyota does not want to recall that part and i know toyota change the part address the issue but still no recall on ours cars and to pay 3500 for manufacture defect is outrageous. *tr

While traveling on the interstate, about 80% of my brakes gave out and i lost stability. my abs indicator and the message "check vsc system" came on. as i came to a stop, my brakes jerked a bit and i came to a sudden and aggressive stop. i turned the car off and restarted it, and everything drove fine. this same thing happened sporadically about 20 times over the next couple of months, but now my abs light and check vsc indicator are on at all times. my brakes are diminished most of the time down to 50%, and every now and again, my car will come to a really hard stop as i brake. i had a toyota dealer look at it, and i was told my actuator was out and would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,000. that is just for the part, not including labor. i only paid $15,000 for the car. on top of that, they aren't even using the 2007 model actuators, they are using a later model, which tells me they know something is wrong with the 2007. *tr

Slowing down exit ramp from highway..no brakes pedal to the floor had to downshift and use parking brake to stop..dashboard lights brake light lit..this is the third time this has happened and dealer says to replace nitrogen booster for $2500 but it happen when the weather is less than 45 degrees twice in florida once in pa. *tr

Intermittent lose of power brake. *tr

Check vsc light with intermittent loss of braking. toyota says needs new abs actuator at over $2500. *tr

Check vsc light on, loss of brakes. near accident. toyota says $3000 to replace brake abs actuator. *tr

While driving to work on 1/27/14 my brake, abs, check vsc and red warning lights turned on. it was almost impossible to brake. i had to pull off and turn the vehicle off and hope the issue would resolve it. after a few times it finally did. i have taken it to the dealer in the past and it was diagnosed as my abs actuator having a leak and it was replaced. there still appears to be an issue. additionally when braking at any point in time, there is a stutter when under 5 mph, which i was told was due to this same issue which still hasn't been resolved. *tr

I filled up with gas. when i started up, my right front brake was locked on. the mechanic replaced the abs control unit. cost for the part $2525.56. i thank heaven it did not happen at highway speed. *tr

Driving down the road and noticed the brakes did not feel right. it was much harder to press the brake pedal than normal approaching a stop sign. when stopped, there was a strange pulsing sensation coming from the pedal. i kept driving and the problem continued, but seemed to get worse as i drove more. at one point, there were lights and warnings going off, so i eventually pulled over on the side of the road and let the car site for a while. after turning the car off and on a few times, everything appeared to be back in working order. however, since the first incident, the issue has occurred a few more times. the car is not safe to drive; it will definitely cause an accident or worse unless something is fixed. i contacted the local toyota dealership and they told me it was the brake actuator - and it will cost $2k-$3k!!! i was told by a service tech that they see this issue all the time and there is a new part that replaces the original one - with a different part number... so obviously toyota knows there is an issue with the original part. with such an important piece of the car (brakes), they should step up and make it right. i'm pretty disappointed in toyota for this situation and don't feel comfortable driving the car with me or my family. *tr

I was driving on street that had several potholes in both lanes. lanes were blocked by barrels because of the roadwork being done. there were too many potholes to dodge and none seemed significantly bigger than the rest. since i was unable to swerve, because of traffic going the other way in the lane beside me, i hit a series of potholes. after the last one, which seemed a little bigger than the others, i heard a beep and the display read, "check vsc," which i know from the last time this happened means "vehicle stability control." the parking brake light seemed to come on at that time. i could not get the car to roll any but instead had to hit the accelerator to move at all. the brake was not as powerful, so i had to be sure to brake in plenty of time. the steering seemed more restricted also, and there was a high-pitched buzzing that continued all the time unless the car was off with all doors shut. i live close by, so i was able to get my car back home but did not think it was safe to drive it to the dealership. i had aaa tow it a few days later. they told me at the dealership that a part of the anti-lock brake system would have to be replaced. they later found that one of the lines involved in keeping the engine cool was leaking and the water pump had to be replaced. *tr

While driving to a stop on a residential street, car was normal. as soon as the brake was applied, multiple warning lights on the dash lit up, including a message stating something about a vsc system problem. the brakes seemed to fail and the brake pedal required an extreme amount of pressure to bring the vehicle to a complete stop and narrowly avoid an accident with another vehicle which had right of way at the intersection. had the brakes not been applied with sufficient force, i believe the car would have entered the intersection and caused an accident. this is unacceptable as my then 4 month old daughter was in the car with us. please conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into this matter. the dealership is asking $3300 to fix this issue, this totally negates any fuel savings the hybrid functionality has offered. *js
