As i was driving a loud noise came on inside the car my abs light and brake light came on and then my brakes failed almost causing a huge wreck and from what i have read it is the abs accutator or brake accutator which i guess is the same thing but apparently a lot of the toyota camry hybrids are having this issue where the breaks are failing and causing accidents but yet there are no recalls for it and apparently the part cost 2,900 from toyota which is insane when it should be a recall because it's a major safety issue
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 40 mph in the cold rain, the contact had to exert extra pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to toyota of surprise (13543 n autoshow ave, surprise, az 85388, (623) 469-6027), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 131,454.
Vehicle was in motion going straight on a city street, and "check vsc system" notification turned on. brake light, abs light, and (!) all came on. brakes became shaky when pressed.
I got in my vehicle today in the vsc light came on. i have researched over google, and everything points to a $3,000 repair, or a recall repairable by toyota. i would like to see if i am eligible for that recall repair.
Brakes did not activate, went very soft and pushed to the floor. "check vsc system" message, brake light, traction control light, and another light (in attached image) all came on after the brakes gave out. i was able to use the emergency brake to stop the car off the side of the road. turn the car off and back on. brakes worked again, but all of the warnings are still on. also, seems like the it's just regular brakes and anti-lock system is not working.
Few days ago while driving - the warning "check vsc system" indicator came on with four warning lights - brakes, exclamation traction control, abs and skid control. suddenly brakes started acting strangely and soft and jerky. took the vehicle to fred anderson toyota and after diagnostic test was told that it is code 1392 which requires replacement of abs control module (the cost to replace was quoted as $2875.37 - we declined to get it fixed. called toyota customer service - they reviewed my complaint but declined to help.
Check vsc & hybrid system lights went on and now my brakes are acting funny.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle jerked. in addition, the traction control, emergency brake, and vehicle stability control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to toyota chula vista (650 main st, chula vista, ca 91911, (619) 591-0900) who stated that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty and provided a repair quote. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 204,000.
Was driving when my brakes went soft and my vsc warning popped up on my dashboard .never had a issue with car till now.i have about 160k miles on it.looked online and looks like a lot of people are having the same issues with there car.
I was driving my vechicle yesterday that was just in the shop since saturday saying that they replaced everything that was wrong because previously my breaks locked up on i-95 and i couldn't stop. i got the vechicle back yesterday and i was driving home from work and my breaks failed again causing me to rear end the person in front of me. i could not stop. absolutely no breaks!! the vechicle was in motion trying to come to a complete stop. i believe the abs break aculator / module in the vechicle is bad. the company whom i bought it from i believe should take responsibility for this accident considering they're the ones who stated they fixed the vechicle
My vehicle's brakes failed resulting in rear-ending the car in front. this happened on a freeway going straight at 10 am. my vehicle was moving at about 20 miles/ hr when i stepped forcefully on the brake pedal as the car in front of me slowed but i did not lurch forward, my seat belt did not tighten to pull me back and my bag pack that was on the front passenger leather seat stayed where it was. my vehicle behaved as if i had not braked. when i stepped on the brakes, i could see asphalt between my vehicle and the vehicle in front. my vehicle's front bumper, grill and hood was damaged. the vehicle immediately in front of mine had dents on the rear bumper and the trunk. there was a third vehicle in front of the one in front of mine that was also damaged, however, i do not know the extent of the damage. the impact occurred at a low speed which did not cause my seat belt to tighten and did not cause my backpack on the passenger seat to slide forward.
The vsc system lights are going off. the brakes are not working when you turn the car on and then it jolts suddenly. now a beep is going off every time i start my car.
My car has all of the light on dashboard is on and on screen it says "check vsc system"
Abs actuator is broken, there wan an extended warranty on the hybrids up until 150,000 miles.
Wife and kids were coming home and brakes went to the floor and abs lights came on. took the car to a mechanic and mechanic stated to contact toyota for open recall and service campaign. toyota is no help whatsoever
Brake failure. was driving in residential street (low speed) when brakes stopped working. had to use parking brake. problem seems to be with brake fluid reservoir tank/filter, which toyota offered to service until 30 june 2017. unfortunately, never had problems with brakes until now--1 1/2 years after the service offer had expired. should be full recall. the reason why problem did not surface till now is because vehicle has low miles (85,000 after 12 years).
While driving on the highway, my brakes got soft and my car wouldn't come to a complete stop. i had to apply the emergency break so that i could avoid hitting the car in front of me. it happened on a city street as well, both while i was in motion and stationary.
My wife and i bought a certified camry hybrid from the local toyota dealership. even though there is a buzzing noise from the original purchase, we assume that because it was a hybrid that that was normal. for 4 years we have brought our camry to the same dealership for oil changes and regular service needs. never in the time had the dealership told us there was a problem with the buzzing sound. recently the abs and vsc lights came on so we took the car in to see what the problem was, after the dealership told us but the cost would be around $2,100 i decided to see if i would be able to do it myself and after googling the part i looked under the hood and saw that the noise we have been hearing for 4 years is coming from the same part that needs to be replaced.
The brakes on my 07 toyota camry went "soft" and the brake light came on when driving at about 35 mph. i pulled into a parking lot, waited, and the prob. went away. a few days later, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed when at a red light on a residential area (25mph). i took the to toyota for the second time, and they said it was an abs issue, actuator and 4 brake fluids. the cost to repair it is $1926.54. the dealer advised me to call toyota, which i did, bc there had been problems with braking in 07 and 08 toyota camrys. toyota was incredibly unhelpful (this despite my owning two toyota camry hybrids), even though toyota had issued two extended warranties because of the issues with intermittent loss of assisted braking reported by many customers, the last one through july of 2017. the woman i spoke to insisted that since the car experienced the problem "out of warranty" there is nothing toyota was willing to do.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 30 mph, the brake indicator illuminated. the contact depressed the brake pedal, but had difficulty stopping the vehicle. the contact was able to drive to a parking lot before the vehicle stalled. all of the warning indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to frank fletcher toyota (2209 s rangeline rd, joplin, mo 64804) and the battery was replaced. ten days later, the battery indicator illuminated again when the vehicle was started. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 176,000.
Brakes fail after all warning lights come on regardless of speed
Brake actuator we were never notified of any extended warranty coering this defect. now we are being told to pay out of pocket when we the owners were never notified in the first place that this was an issue until the extended warranty expired and we experienced an issue. had we been notified we never would have bought this vehicle in the first place.
The brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. vehicle has been maintained correctly. i was on the hwy going 65 mph, in my 2007 camry hybrid when this happened, totally lost power, i was able to pill over to the side road call for help. this is a ridiculous situation for an automobile. i feel like the public is being used like test dummies by toyota.
While driving i saw check vsc system lights come up and it off after some time
When driving one day with my new born in the car, the lights associated with my brakes all came on. following, my brakes started reacting funny when pushed on the pedal. the dash said something about svc system check vsc
Vsc abs mil lights came on in dash and brakes sank to floor, but restored control after restart. checked diagnostic codes and it showed codes for hybrid battery p0a80 and p3025. replaced auxilary battery with oem from toyota. now car shuts down while in motion driving highway speeds without any warning and lose gas pedal response. first time it happened with my family in the car including a 5 yr old and 9 month old baby. complained to toyota as vehicle only has approx 93000 miles and toyota declines to assist with resolving issue even though warranty was extended to 10yr/150k miles. dealer misdiagnosed vehicle codes. brakes failed second time, this time causing car to slowly bump into object and scraping bumper at low speed. checked all fuses. vehicle now continuously shuts down randomly on slow or high speeds, while making a turn, merging into traffic, crossing a heavy intersection.
The check vsc system error came on recently. it also came on a few years ago and then went away after a few days. it's now been up for weeks. the error that is triggering is c1391, and the repair shop says this is due to an abnormal leak in the accumulator. all of the brake-related lights are on constantly a few seconds after starting up the car and stay on until shutting it off. sometimes the brakes randomly shut stop functioning as expected and do nothing when compressing. i didn't realize this was a recall when the car was still under warranty (and even after toyota extended the warranty due to the fact this is such a wide and pervasive issue); otherwise, i would have taken it in to get it repaired as a precautionary measure. this repair was quoted to cost a minimum of $2,200. it would be ideal if toyota would fix this part since it is a known issue and since no other major part of the car is faulty, even though the car has almost 200,000 miles on it. i feel toyota has put lives at risk by not actively pursuing to contact owners of this model vehicle since the part they put on these cars is so faulty.

On my 2007 camry hybrid, as i was reversing, the brakes all of a sudden engaged, braking so hard it felt like i hit something. soon after, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. vsc warning lights and display message intermittently turn off and turn back on arbitrarily.
Driving on a highway at 70mph when the dashboard lit up with several lights, including emergency, brake and abs, and a check vsc system indication. luckily, i was able to cruise and carefully apply the brake at several intervals to stop. this is an ongoing and known abs actuator problem in 07 toyota camry hybrids. the toyota dealer will not cover the $3k cost to replace the actuator because it is past the 10 year limit. please either issue a recall or extend the warranty. this is not safe for consumers.
Brakes depress more and take more pressure to brake. 06/4/2018. car vibrates when braking over 50 miles per hour. brake fluid reservoir was replaced 10/22/2016
I just found out that my brake actuator is failing. toyota apparently issued an 'enhanced warranty' rather than a recall to fix this known defect despite the safety risks for all drivers if another driver's brakes fail. i am under the mileage but about a year beyond the extended warranty date. toyota corporate will not cover the fix and said this is their company position. i feel this should be a recall for the safety of all drivers. (when i brake the brakes make a 'barking sound.' this is what prompted going to the dealer.)
My 2007 toyota camry hybrid started experiencing an error message displayed on dash, "check vsc system", additionally all the indicator lights on the dash lit up. this started happening at the end of march 2018. i have an obd2 reader and the fault code was "c1391". i was able to erase the code and dashboard returned to normal but message and lights return 2-3 days later. in mid-june 2018 i took the camry to toyota to repair it. they did a diagnostic test ($109) to tell me what i already told them regarding the code. i knew that was the brake actuator assembly problem. they gave me a a quote of $1895 for part and tax and an additional $340 plus tax for labor. i picked up my car, did not have the $2400 to get the work done (parts also would take 2 days to get). they did warn me against driving the vehicle until it was fixed. the technician also pointed out the odd motorized noise the actuator was making when the vehicle was off. he said it shouldn't make any noise when it was off. after further research on forums, i found there was a toyota warranty enhancement program ze1 specifically for my vehicle for the replacement of the brake actuator assembly (see attached). it was issued in july 2014 to offer full replacement and reprogramming at no cost to the customer. however, it had dated conditions and was only applicable if the lights and messages came up on dash. although the sound has occurred since i purchased the used car in jan 2010, i did not receive lights or message until march 2018 but the grace period ran out on july 2017. toyota should honor the extension of the replacement program when the problem occurs if they won't proactively resolve it prior to the indicated signs. toyota is warning me to fix this at my cost or risk brake failure at any time.
I own a 2007 toyota camry hybrid i have had his car for 4 years and have been very satisfied with it till yesterday as i was driving down the road and my all the sudden this loud buzzing noise started i tapped the brakes and had no brakes i was going 55mph and had the brake to the floor with very lol brake i had to shift down to slow the car down thank god no one was in front of me or i would have wrecked. this is a faulty part from what i have read about and it's serious ! this should be a recall matter it's the braking system and brakes are needed ! my car has over 150000 so it did not qualify for the safety campaign. also my understanding is there had to be a problem before it could be covered ! if i would have wrecked with my grandchild in this vehicle i would have a lawsuit against toyota on this matter !! this needs to be looked into and should be recalled !
When i drive this car i press the brakes and they do not engage or they engage on a delay. . while driving i attempted brake to slow entry into uphill driveway. all lights on driver panel lit up. brakes did not respond to slow down or stop. with full force i depressed brake pedal. this is happening from last couple of months.
Complete brake failure!!i was driving down the road approaching a stop light when my brakes went all the way to the floor and a lot of lights came on the dashboard, i coasted to a stop luckily without hitting another car. this is the first time this has ever happened, i have no warning lights indicating there is or was an issue and i had my car towed to the local mechanic that is telling me that it has a faulty brake part #4405030660. i did a little research and it looks like toyota sells an updated part replacement for this faulty original part, part cost is $1200 plus $700 labor. reading many forums i'm finding out that there are many people that have had complete brake failure over the years with this same issue and id love to know why this isn't a recall but a punishment from toyota and a death sentence just waiting to happen.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. when the vehicle was started, the esc warning indicator illuminated and a beeping sound was heard. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (fox toyota, 228 fox family lane, clinton, tennessee 37716) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was awaiting repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 200,000. the vin was not available.
Anti lock brake actuator failed at approximately 104,000 miles. a warning light just came on the dash and we took it in for service the following day. toyota customer service advises there is no recall even though it's a safety issue. they have issued an extended warranty for 10 years or 150,000, whichever comes first. our vehicle was purchased 10 years and 10 months ago so it's not covered, even though our mileage is 2/3 of the extended warranty. we feel it should be covered under a recall since it is a known safety issue for these vehicles.
I was driving on the road at a speed of 35 miles per hour and all of a sudden the "check vsc system" light turned on my dashboard and the brake of the car became loose. when i try to slow the car down by applying the brake, it wouldn't let me do so. i was approaching the traffic light and i had to press the brake too hard so that the car can stop. finally, i was able to stop it by applying the emergency brake.
Vsc system suddenly failed without warning while driving and breaks would not work
Faulty abs actuator and pump leading to difficult braking. priming noise apparent during driving and while parked. never received notice of service recall campaign from toyota a few years back. sadly, it is now a few months past the 10-year warranty and toyota will no longer service the repair.
I just purchased the vehicle used at a dealership only to find out that the burping noise coming from the brake actuator and the constant running noise every 7 seconds was the part needing to be replaced again . toyota stated i had just missed the 10 year extension on the part replacement , even though the car has 70k miles on it ,and would have to pay approximately 1700-2600$ for this replacement. recall this part toyota! how long nhtsa ?
I was driving my camry and as i approached traffic stopped at an intersection. i began to apply the brakes to slow down and stop when the brakes effectively quit. the instrument panel warning lights and warning horns began going off and i swerved off the road to avoid hitting the stopped cars in front of me. i down shifted the transmission and set the parking brake to bring the car to a stop. needless to say it caught me by surprise and i am just glad i was driving and not one of my 16 year old twin boys! i was able to get into the parking lot of a close by gas station where i noticed the 'check vsc', 'brake' and 'abs' lights were all illuminated. at this point the brakes felt as if the power braking was inoperative. i slowly drove the vehicle to the nearest toyota dealership and after doing a diagnostic test, the service team representative informed me the mechanic found the' 'brake actuator is continually running. losing pressure.' although there i was able to avoid an accident, had the area to the right of the road not been clear, i would have probably hit several cars stopped at the intersection.
Faulty abs controller affecting everything from the battery charging, ac, abs and vsc control system worse case causing brakes to fail.
2007 toyota camry hybrid. consumer writes in regards to abs break actuator failure. *ld the consumer stated the manufacturer was notified and did not offer any assistance due to the vehicle being outside of the 10 year warranty. the consumer requested to reimbursed for the repairs. *js
Brake actuator failure
Abs module is constantly cycling . vcs light and brake light are on. the brakes are soft. the repair is aprox 3k dollars
While driving down a busy city street the 'check vsc system' message suddenly appeared along with many other warning lights on the dash and a warning sound. braking and steering became very difficult. luckily, i was able to pull over into a parking lot and get out of traffic. my car has had every manufacturer scheduled maintenance service performed for the life of the car.
Brake actuator failed, triggering warning lights and making it hard to push on the pedal to stop the car while in motion. abs function won't activate. the issue started in may 2017 and was taken to a toyota dealer in lufkin, texas for diagnosis. the technicians "couldn't" determine the problem and released the vehicle. this same step happened multiple times over the ensuing months, only to be finally diagnosed on dec 13, 2017. i researched the issue online and found that the actuator problem is covered by a 'warranty extension,' which stretches out the warranty period beyond the standard three years or 36 months to, ultimately, 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. i thought that was good news, but after speaking with toyota corporate rep, the warranty was denied due to the vehicle being out of the coverage period since june. i explained that there were attempts to have the issue diagnosed prior to the expiration, but the rep stated that since the actual determination happened outside of the period, coverage could not be extended. since this is a known issue, their techs should have recognized the problem immediately and repaired the vehicle, which would have been covered by the extended warranty. furthermore, it's a safety issue and an actual recall should be the remedy instead of working around it with a "service campaign." i am asking for assistance to have toyota cover this repair due their failure to educate their service techs or a potential deliberate attempt to move the diagnose outside of the warranty coverage period.
Today, december 11, 2017, while driving my 2007 toyota camry hybrid vehicle on a city street in traffic, the 'check vsc system' warning came on. all dash lights including 'brakes' came on and vehicle became difficult to stop. there was no power assisted braking. brake pedal was hard to engage and when vehicle came to a stop, there was a single "knock or bang" sound. this warning had come on previously without braking issue until last week when my wife told me she had a similar problem driving home from work. i cleaned and subsequently replaced the gas cap as per a you tube described repair of the check vsc warning. i then drove the car intermittently since that time without incident until today. my wife experienced the problem 12/7/2017.
