Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake sensor light illuminated and the brakes malfunctioned within minutes. as a result, the vehicle failed to stop while the contact was engaging the brake pedal. the contact was able to merge into a parking area and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the failure had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 137,000.
While driving to the market at 40mph a series of warnings came on. the "check vsc system", the brake light, abs, skid, parking light, and general warning light came on the dashboard and the car lost its braking power. i had to push down very hard on the brake and use the emergency brake to stop the car. so far it has happened twice. according to the toyota dealership, there is no record of the errors or lack of brake power in the computer and they say they can't duplicate it. i am not driving it now because i am concerned about crashing. *tr
As i was traveling on a highway the abs went out and almost all brake and stability control lights came on and i lost almost all braking and stability control of the car. i was later told by the dealer that the abs actuator had gone out and needed to be changed ($1500). it turns out that toyota is aware of this very dangerous issue and are not issuing a recall. i was told that theyre offering an warranty extension if you know what to ask for since they don't volunteer the information. i can't stress how dangerous of a situation this has left me while driving at high speeds. it seems like everyone is aware of this issue but nobody is doing anything about it. here's also a report by consumer reports magazine from july 2014 that outlines the issue: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/07/why-toyota-should-recall-the-camry-hybrid/index.htm. *tr
On 10/14/2014 i took the car to dealer for brake reservoir recall. the dealer replaced the brake fluid reservoir and reset the brake vehicle stability control unit. on 10/25/2014 while approaching a stop light i depressed the brake pedal at which time the brake warning, abs warning, slip indicator and master caution warning lights illuminated and the brakes grabbed (or more accurately: locked random wheels in a random sequence) causing the vehicle to careen and swerve out of control. wheels apparently locked up completely because there was smoke and screeching. vehicle stopped sideways in the intersection out of control. had other vehicles been present in adjacent lanes or ahead of me there would have certainly been an accident. this vehicle has had ongoing brake problems including a brake ecu replacement. after brake ecu replacement no trouble has occurred until this event. the hybrid battery has been replaced twice. when the hybrid battery failed the first time the braking system also became unstable and the vehicle lurched forward. this incident also nearly caused an accident and was reported to ntsb. my experience is when there is a system fault related to the hybrid battery or vehicle stability control while driving the brake system becomes unstable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated while driving approximate 60 mph attempting to engage the brakes, the vehicle made a jerking motion as the brake light illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician diagnosed that the brake assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
I was driving about 35 mph when all of my brake, slip indicator and abs warning lights came on. i immediately pulled over and looked it up in my owner's manual. there, it told me to take the car to the toyota dealer. i was 40 miles from home so i proceeded to go back to the hospital to pick up my boyfriend. i got less than a mile down the road when the master warning light and an alarm came on. again i pulled over and turned off the car. the manual told me that i needed to have it towed to the dealer immediately. at the dealership i found that there was a "limited service campaign" on a filter that connects the chambers in the brake reservoir. it was replaced and i didn't have another issue until 11/26/14. again, all the warning lights and alarm came on and i had to have it towed to the dealer. there, i was told that the brake actuator had failed and it would be over $1500 to replace. luckily, i did some research and found this is also being covered by toyota under a "warranty enhancement" program. *js
While driving, 4 light appeared: the master warning light, the brake light, the abs light, and the yellow warning light, along with the message "check vsc system". after this happened, i pulled over and turned off the car. now when pressing the brake pedal to start the car, i hear loud irregular clunking sounds, and the green light on the power button doesn't light up for 2 seconds, indicating the car cannot be immediately started. car drives fine, but i'm afraid the brakes will become faulty at any time. *tr
Was very hot outside for 3 weeks straight. on the way to the grocery store check engine light came on with the following 2 readouts on speedometer display: "check vsc" and "check hybrid system". instantly the hybrid part of the vehicle stopped working. brakes changed feel and throttle became very delayed. when i pulled into my driveway and put the transmission into park, the engine started to knock. when i put into drive or neutral the knocking stops. the engine knocked hard in park position as if there are loose pieces of metal crunching. ever since then, the car's hybrid drive doesn't work and check engine light is on, abs light, vsc light p/s light, a red triangle light, and an orange circle with an exclamation point in it. we parked the car and we are not driving it until its fixed. we have 2 toddlers and we aren't going to risk driving it. *tr
Upon starting the automobile, the vsc, abs, brake and other warning lights came on. the break catches and/or must be pumped to come to a complete stop. in addition, the vehicle seems to hyper-accelerate when in idle, especially in reverse. a local dealer/service center says a computerized part must be replaced for $2100. *tr
I took my car to the toyota for the campaign they have or recall for the brake problem that these camry hybrid have because mine says check vsc, and a lot of light are on but its actually the actuator but they only changed the brake reservoir everything was fine until i made it to the house all the lights came back on the guys from the dealer informed me the reservoir ain't going to fix the problem i bought the car used with 149600 miles only 3 months ago thinking that kind of miles ain't much when it comes to toyota just got the vehicle and can't use it thanks *tr
Car was making barking noise when stepping on the brake. dealer replaced master cylinder, actuator, and brake fluid reservoir. drove the vehicle for two weeks without problem or recurrence. 8/25/14 all the brake warning lights and the vsc system warning came on. no problems with brakes when driving to the dealer. dealer said abs computer needed to be replaced for $1500. my first repair was $780. i wanted to add my complaint about the braking system to those already submitted. *tr
Going down a long hill, started to brake at about 70mph and the front of the car started to shake. as i continued to brake the shaking got worse. very frightening; thought the car was going to shake apart. *tr
While driving, a notification was given "check vsc system". the abs light as well as the red brake system are on as well. brakes are not as responsive and it is difficult to stop. we will not be able to have the system checked till next week. a search on the internet says this is bad. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, several unknown warning lights illuminated. the contact also mentioned that when depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle swerved from left to right. in addition, there was an abnormal noise coming from the brakes. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the brake pedal was applied and the brake system failed to engage. the stability control and the abs warning lights illuminated while the failure occurred and remained illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart and function as normal. the vehicle was taken to a dealer which diagnosed a failure code on the brake actuator. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the current and failure mileage was 140,000.
When i started the car, the dash display said "check vsc system". when i backed the car out of the driveway, the brakes were erratic, either very weak, or very strong. i was unable to control them for safe braking. there was no code in the obd system (i have a obd scan tool.). an internet search indicates that repairs will probably be about $3,000. the car is not be safe to drive until this is repaired. *tr
Driving vehicle today and the check hybrid system light came on. a short time later the check vsc system came on and the car no longer accelerated. i pulled over and turned the car off. i waited a while before starting again and was able to get the car home. i haven't gone to the dealership yet but will update when i do. the car will not be driven until it is services, i'm scared it can kill me! *js
While turning left in an intersection, the "brake", "warning", "stability" and "abs" warning lights came on as well as "check vsc system". simultaneously, i lost brake power. i drove approximately 2 mi to home with no ability to control my speed using power brakes. instead, the only brakes i had were the equivalent of using the emergency brake; a very hard, jerking motion. the toyota dealer first told me that i was low on brake fluid and i could now pick up my car. i argued that i should have seen an "idiot" light first rather than complete failure of my braking system! 5 days later, and several conversations with corporate, the "skid control computer" was replaced for $2,000! this is such a dangerous failure on an automobile! if i had been on the freeway, there certainly would have been a serious accident! this is unacceptable. please investigate! *tr
While driving on a street at 35 mph hit a bump in the road and the asb and brake lights came on red, and multi-information center showed check vsc system. at the same time a car pulled out in front of me and brakes seemed to not work and required a heavy force on pedal for any stopping action. i was lucky no one was in left lane so i switched to it to keep from hitting the car that pulled out in front of me.took car to shop and need to have abs mod. replaced. *tr
Brakes shuddered and seats vibrated strongly while driving on a highway known as the grapevine in california. many cars around as speeds varied between 45 - 70 mph depending on congestion points. applying brakes to slow down would feel as if they were shuddering and not stop. after finally finishing grapevine portion and driving back to lower flatter elevation, the brakes acted normally. no dash lights indicating any problem. took car to toyota dealership the morning after trip and describe scary ride. diagnostics did not find problems. road tests were normal. since then, no further instance of brakes shuddering. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the brakes failed. the contact mentioned that the traction warning light, the emergency brake light, the abs, and low tire pressure lights were illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the brake actuator had to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
Was slowing down to make a turn vsc error on display loud tone from dash car would not stop until i downshifted and used parking brake if there had been a car in front of me i would have slammed into it full force .someone will get injured from this defect dealer says around $2500 to fix and they stated if i wait probably will be recalled soon...when? *tr
First: i got check vsc system when i made a u-turn. i read the failure code is c1391. so, it means abs accumulator is leaking. i also noticed abs accumulator was pretty noise about two month before. i though it may be a problem, but i did not pay attention on it because i was suffering the engine oil consumption. now, it really died. i got many cases online about this issues and they reported that toyota has redesigned this accumulator, so it means toyota already knew this problem. this is a very important issue. it may cause deadly accident if the brake doesn't work suddenly. in addition, fix this problem needs over two thousands dollars. it should not be paid by owner since this is a design defect. i hope toyota will recall this problem. second, this car's engine piston ring has defect. this causes engine oil consumption. in fact, my car is burning engine oil now. it's about 1500 miles/0.6quart. it will get worse and this also may cause engine failure in the future. *tr
As i was backing up, the brakes went soft to the floor, and then all of a sudden the brakes engaged. it brake so hard, it felt like a hit something. a few days later, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. i took it to toyota and they said it was code-1391, abnormal leak in accumulator. the cost was going to be $2694.00. i declined the repair, because i don't have money to repair. *tr
I have a problem with the abs unit pulsing on my 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the abs unit makes a clunking noise while coming to a stop and will continue clunking as if it is engaging and disengaging while the brakes are depressed. this does not happen if i roll very slowly into the stop with light brake pressure. the abs unit also cycles every few seconds before driving and after the car is powered off. took the car to the dealer and they said it would be a $3,000 repair of an internal leak in the abs unit. the technician said it would be safe to drive as is, without repair, and that he knew of no issues with the abs unit on the 2007 camry hybrid. but toyota seems to know of an issue. here is the address of toyota's "warranty enhancement" program: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ucm458140/inot-pe14001-59692.pdf. *tr
Brake actuator failed after several days of increased noise and difficulty braking. toyota dealership gave me a $3800 quote to repair. they made no mention of similar safety issues with other customers even though there is an nhtsa investigation going on. *js
While traveling on the highway at speeds of over 60 mph, several warning lights became illuminated simultaneously on the vehicle's dashboard. the lights that were illuminated included the abs indicator, parking brake indicator, and warning light, among others. the text "check vsc system" is also constantly displayed on the vehicle's dashboard. since these warning lights have illuminated, breaking has become more difficult and the vehicle shakes while breaking at low speeds. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 camry hybrid. the contacts stated that after powering up the vehicle, the tire pressure, brake and the abs lights illuminated. the contact mentioned that the brake pedal became soft and the brake distance increased failing to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 142,216 and the approximate current mileage was 142,230.
While braking on a slight incline my 2007 toyota camry hybrid's power brakes and steering malfunctioned making the vehicle hard to steer and stop. it felt as if both the power brakes and steering went out simultaneously and the car seemed to roll, or sway, left and right. at the same time a "check vsc system" warning appeared on my dash along with the red brake indicator light, red service indicator light (triangle with exclamation point), amber brake system warning light and the amber abs warning light. if i had been traveling at a higher rate of speed, in heavy traffic or had i been approaching a crowded crosswalk or intersection this event could have been disastrous. after pulling over and visually inspecting my brake fluid level and engine compartment i used my cell phone to check online and found others with similar problems (which led me here to file a complaint/report). after waiting on the side of the road for about a half hour the warning message and lights went out so i slowly drove to the dealer 5 miles away. the dealer informed me that the abs actuator needed to be replaced at a cost of $3607.88 (plus tax on the $3000.00 part). my southern california toyota csr proclaims to have never heard of this issue -- even though my web searching has turned up lots of discussion and articles (i.e. l.a. times report, cbs, nbc, ap, consumer affairs plus the nhtsa announcement of the opening of their investigation at the end of january 2014). *tr
While driving on highway my brake light turned on. i thought i left the emergency brake pedal down, but everything was fine. suddenly all warning lights in dashboard turned on, as a reaction i tried to apply brakes and to my surprise my brakes wouldn't brake properly. *tr
Vehicle started in driveway, foot on brake. when parking brake was released the vehicle rolled into street despite the brake pedal being depressed. brakes engaged suddenly after rolling out into traffic. *tr second incident at gas station. vehicle in drive, foot on brake, when parking brake released vehicle began to roll forward, a thud was heard and brakes applied suddenly after rolling several feet.
Vehicle serviced 3/10/10 under toyota 90l recall campaign. dealership stated all systems functional upon completion. on 5/21/14, in safe road conditions and parking lot speeds <10 mph, driver applied brakes to vehicle in order to pull into parking spot. during braking, vehicle did not slow or stop, but accelerated at a high rate of speed, striking a parking berm and three other vehicles. police report made; driver not cited but was advised to contact toyota re brake failure and acceleration. toyota was contacted; inspection was made by bosch engineering. toyota contends the incident is not a result of any manufacturing defect. toyota provided a technical report containing engineering data without layman's explanation or proof of its contention. toyota was found by the doj to have misled consumers and the govt regarding severity and "resolution: of this issue. on 8/21/14 and 8/22/14 driver was contacted by toyota with a second and separate recall notice #e0u, affecting the vehicle's brake reservoirs, in which clogging and/or low fluid levels "could cause additional warning lamps[...]to illuminate and front brake assist could be temporarily lost." the warning lamp in question did illuminate during the 5/21 incident. legal counsel for driver has advised an independent review of the bosch report and inspection of the brake reservoir; however, the vehicle was totaled and sold at auction by the insurance company's salvage agent. i have initiated an independent review of the bosch report at my own expense. in light of toyota's misleading conduct regarding recall campaign 90l and the subsequent recall #e0u, driver contends that toyota is at fault for the events of 5/21/14.
When i tried to apply brakes to stop, i realized that the brake had completely failed and i was on the 110 freeway on a busy monday morning. luckily i didn't rear end the car in front of me. the dealer is telling me that my brake system (accuator and electronic components) are out. the car computer system cannot communicate to the brake system and thus i might loose brakes if i keep running. the check vsc system light turned on along with the abs, hybrid battery, park and all other alert lights on the dash board. in addition, i'm told my auxillary battery is also out ($460) dealer is charging me $4800 dollar (excluding the aux battery) and i don't know what to do since the car is with the dealer and i'm told the brakes will fail if i continue to drive. i have 104,000 miles and have done all servicing at toyota dealers. no warranties and basically they can't help. *js
I have been having off and on occurrences of the "check vsc system" warning with brake, abs, etc. the cost to repair is over $3,000. for the brake actuator / accumulator. brakes still sort of work but it is difficult to stop in a hurry and i'm not sure if i'll totally lose the ability to stop the car in the near future. this is a pretty nasty problem that seems to be common among all of the camry hybrids of this vintage. i hope a recall is issued soon and that toyota can work with customers on this given that the problem costs 10% of what the car was worth brand new to fix. *tr
Driving along a city road in my 2007 camry hybrid (mileage approx. 49k) at about 25-30 mph when i saw the "check vsc system" and "check hybrid system" warnings on mil and simultaneously got no response from pressing either the brake or ignition pedal. car would not go and would not stop. i coasted to the shoulder and the car slowed to a stop (fortunately in a legal parking spot!). i am having it towed to the dealer tomorrow. i will provide an update when i know more. *tr
I wasn't driving my car when all the lights came on. but every brake light on the dash came on and a message read check vsc system. i had noticed that there was a sound the car makes when the car is not on. but i thought it was the car identifying the key was close because i always had the key with me when i would hear this sound. the mechanic who told me what the problem was told me that sound is related to this problem. the only place to get the part is through toyota and estimated cost for the part is $2500. if this is a recurring problem that toyota is aware of why are they not made to recall this item. this is a safety issue. who has that kind of money to make a repair ? *tr
Upon depressing brake pedal (at stop or while moving), a loud "chirping" type noise repeats until brake pedal is released. my local dealer indicated it was the abs brake actuator that may be leaking internally, and that until it leaks externally would be ok to drive, although could be a few days or a few months before needing replacement. they estimated the cost of repair at $3,000.00. about 45 days later, i am getting multiple warning lights on my dashboard, including the abs system, brake light (normally only on when i have the emergency brake engaged), check vsc system, and a general warning symbol. after doing some research online, i see there are up to 59 complaints already filed with the nhtsa regarding this issue, many indicating sudden brake loss. i feel i must take this immediately to a toyota dealer for repair, even at the huge expense, and all while on the road during my family vacation as it may not be safe to drive at this time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that there was an intermitent knocking noise from the engine compartement. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was not able to neither duplicate nor diagnose the failure. since the failure persisted the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the abs actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was to be repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
While driving up a slight incline the indicating lights on the dashboard suddenly illuminated - red brake system warning icon, red abs light, red brake light, red master warning light. in addition, the screen displayed "check vsc system" and an audible warning tone sounded. from about 6 months prior to this incident, the brake actuator motor would cycle on/off frequently after a trip. over time, the duration of the on and off cycling after a trip gradually increased from about 30 seconds to approximately 90 seconds. the actuator motor also cycled when opening the door before a trip. other symptoms that surfaced prior to this incident included frequent on/off cycling of the brake actuator motor at traffic light stops and an audible "barking" sound from under the hood. research on the world-wide-web revealed many owners with same symptoms. because the engine in the hybrid cars turn off during normal operation, engine vacuum is not readily available for the power brake assistance as found in conventional automobiles. consequently, the failure of the power assist is due to the inadequate design of the hybrid system. furthermore, i understand that the replacement brake actuator part that toyota provides for the 2007 and 2008 camry hybrids has a different part no. than the original one provided. this strongly suggests that toyota recognizes its original brake actuator has a faulty design. i have not driven the car since this incident for fear of losing the power assist on the brakes. the local toyota dealer has not replied to my inquiry on this matter. i also have a 2009 camry hybrid and although the brake actuator cycles on and off after opening the door before a trip and after the system is shutdown following the trip, the cycle is very short and the duration is no longer than 30 seconds. i do not have any brake problems with the 2009 model. *tr
When i went to brake the car, the brakes would not stop and the car pushed forward without warning, and would not stop. i could not stop the car and i had to pump the brakes of the car in order to get the car to stop. when i drove it into the dealer, they quoted me $2500.00 to fix the problem, which i found ridiculous because i changed the car brakes at another toyota dealership several months ago and this came without warning. *tr
A week before the incident, heard a humming noise coming from the brake distributor area of the engine when the car was started. it continued at about 1-minute intervals while the car was in motion and also when parked and turned off. it would end within about 5 minutes of being turned off. it seemed as though the brakes were trying to engage or there was insufficient pressure to them. a day before the incident, when the brakes were engaged while driving, there would be a chirping noise as well. then while driving on the highway, every brake-related warning light on the dashboard lit up and a message appeared saying, "maintenance required. check vsc system." the brakes didn't fail, though, so i was able to make it home. this is not the first time i have had vsc system issues in this car. 3 years ago the very same thing happened, again on the highway, where the brake warning lights lit up on the dashboard and the vsc warning message came on as well. for about 3 weeks before that, the brakes were chirping when engaged and also when the car was shut off and parked, they would chirp for a long time as if they were trying to engage then too. it cost me $2100 to replace the module. now it's happening again. i am not prepared to risk brake failure nor pay an exorbitant amount of money on the braking system for this car, again. toyota needs to take responsibility for poor, shoddy design and fix this issue immediately! *tr
Abs actuators is failures on 2007 toyota camry hybrid 71k miles: abs light is on, the e-brake light is on even when the e-brake is disengaged, and the car is saying to check the vsc system. the brakes are also noticeably weaker to the extent that i am afraid to drive my kids!!!!! *tr
Brakes started acting funny and making strange noises. i took it in to get it looked at and was informed that it would cost $3000 to replace the abs actuator and that if i didn't, the brakes could fail at any time.
My wife experienced a failure of the assisted braking system on our 2007 toyota camry hybrid. this occurred while she was dropping off our children at school but fortunately occurred at low speed. the failure occurred without warning. the failure became apparent when multiple dashboard warning lights lit up and when the brakes failed to stop the vehicle adequately. after the vehicle had been parked a re-started, the problem resolved. we understand from information available from other drivers of this vehicle that the failure is likely to recur and so remains a serious safety concern. *tt
Warning brake light came on ( the emergency brake one) while i was out driving. the emergency brake was not engaged. tried to get the car home and at a light when i went to take off, the car started to move then suddenly stopped in the intersection, but the car was still running. i turned on my flashers, and restarted the car. the "check vsc system" warning came on and i drove the car slowly home. the brakes were very spongy, like there was hardly any braking power. *tt
The brake light illuminated on my dash as i was sitting in stop and go traffic. about 10 minutes later, i was traveling about 55 mph and attempted to push my brakes to stop for a stop light. the brakes did not respond normally and it took about 4 times as long to get the car to stop compared to normal responsiveness. simultaneously, my entire dash board lit up with warning lights. i proceeded to pull over to a safe place, going maybe 10mph, i went to park and rolled into the curb in front of my car because i could not get the brakes to stop the car. i placed the car in park. all indicator lights cleared and brakes started working again. i had the car towed to a toyota certified mechanic, who told me that nothing had registered in the computer. the car was then driven a bit to try to recreate the problem and towed to a toyota dealer. eventually the c1345 and c1468 codes appeared. toyota was contacted and recommended the accumulator assembly be replaced, brake system bleed, reset memory and calibrated linear valve. expensive repair was completed and the car is now driving again. *tr
On april 12, 2014, as the car was being driven at around 30-35 miles per hour, i was approaching a stop sign and began pressing down on the brakes to come to a stop. as i pressed on the brakes, they seemed not to work. i had to keep pushing down on the brakes with force to finally get try to get the car to stop, at which point the brake lights sensor, the abs sensor, and the vsc sensors all lit up on the dashboard. as i was trying to get the car to stop, the car began swerving and i couldn't get immediate control of the car. the car felt as though it was sliding, the stability of the car was compromised. i honestly thought i was going to crash. on april 17th, 2014,in a separate incident, as i was pulling into a parking lot, i began to slow down, only to apply my brakes and they appeared to not work. once again i had to really push down on the brakes for them to finally work. again, all of the lights lit up on the dashboard (brakes, abs, vsc). it was also difficult to control the car and again, i felt as though i was going to crash. *tr
Driving on the interstate at 65 miles per hour, i saw brake lights ahead, so i applied brakes. my vehicle failed to slow down at the normal rate and i noticed increased resistance on the brake pedal. i applied as much pressure as possible to the brake pedal and the vehicle eventually stopped to avoid a collision. i brought the car to toyota and said problem is due to abs accumulator. the vehicle never presented a computer code from problem. problem was found by logging the abs accumulator sensor and it was reporting consistently losing brake pressure. the price for the replacement part is $2626 for just the part. two months prior to this incident, the dash lights came on with warning to "check vsc system". brought the car to the toyota dealer and they said it was due to low rear brakes, replaced pads, rotors and reset the vsc system. the new part is also an updated version according to toyota, which signifies that toyota knows there is an issue with the original part. *js
First incident of brake failure happened on the drive way of my home. starting the car for the morning commute, had the "check vsc" sign and other warning lights lit on the dash. i tried pressing the brake pedal and shutting and restarting the car. after a few tries, the warnings were gone and break paddle felt normal. second incident happened while i was on a freeway traveling at 65 miles an hour. all of a sudden the dash board lit up with warning lights ad i lost the braking power. luckily, i was able pullover without an incident. if the investigation on this subject has stated as of jan 2014, when should we expect to hear from the agency on the outcome? *tr
Upon starting the car, the check vsc alert appeared on the dash indicator screen. user manual instructed me to drive to nearest service center. this is not a safe procedure, as the braking system was near complete malfunction. upon research online, it came to my attention that this is a common problem. the total cost of repair will near $2500. the service technician also informed me that there is a system update for this problem, indicating that toyota is aware of the malfunction. hopefully this complaint will assist in the issuing of a recall for the brake actuator or related vsc system that has been such a persistent issue. thank you. *tr
