Driving highway at 60 mph and dashboard lit up, tried to brake and very little brake, eventually stop with very little control on brake. dashboard says "check vsc system". research shows its covered here. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/results.cfm?action_number=pe14001&searchtype=quicksearch&summary=true my car has 240k miles and within the 10 year statute but it seems toyota and dealer don't want to shoulder because its over the 150k miles limitiation. i called toyota and told them i wasn't informed and only found out on the day i almost had an accident 1/28/16 that there is a recall. toyota said they don't care as long as they show that the notice was mailed out. toyota should be forced to have a no limit mileage else, they're not going to make all the effort to have people know the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving at 40 mph, the check vsc warning light illuminated and the vehicle experienced brake failure. the contact stated that the vehicle required additional braking distance to stop the vehicle, with extreme pressure being exerted on the brake pedal. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 116,000.
Twice in the past two days, i was driving down the road and my abs and check vsc lights came on. the first time, nothing appeared to happen to the vehicle other than the lights. today however, i was driving at highway speed when the lights came on. luckily, i was approaching congested traffic and i was able to slow down naturally. as i came to the traffic and was driving at roughly 15mph, i tried to depress the brake and it went directly to the floor and did not apply any brake pressure or stop the car in any way. i pumped the brakes while veering onto the shoulder. the car did not stop at all and i was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder of a 5 lane highway, where speeds often reach 70mph or higher. i restarted the vehicle, the lights turned off and i was able to drive the rest of the way home. i called local toyota dealerships and made an appointment to check the car. they are going to charge me $110 for the diagnosis of the vehicle, which is all i know at this point. i also independently researched the warning lights and found articles stating that this is happening fairly frequently and that the nhtsa is investigating. that article also stated that the repair can cost upwards of $2,200. the car is absolutely unfit for the road. i can't drive a vehicle where the breaks could stop working at any moment and with very little warning. there does not appear to be any issue with the breaks themselves, when working properly. it appears to be purely a computer problem that causes the breaks to not engage.
Check vsc system when i took my car out this morning, i got a warning light saying "check vsc system". my brake light and abs lights are also on. the car brakes with a jerk and i am scared to drive it. this problem has been happening quite often. complaints to the toyota dealer did not help. as per http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/feds-investigate-braking-problems-in-toyota-camry-hybrid-012814.html a lot of people are experiencing the same problem and have complained to nhtsa. please help with a recall as it is unsafe to drive the car this way.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would come to an abnormal stop when the brakes were applied. the contact stated that the abs and brake light warning lights were illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,500.
All the dashboard brake light came on, and a couple of seconds later all the system warning lights came on. the brakes became hard to push as if they were fighting me. after about 5 minutes the lights went off and the brakes felt normal again. this occurred while i was driving today. the bigger worry is that it happened ten days ago also. once on a city street and once on the interstate. i took the car to two different shops (one was a toyota dealership in marietta, georgia) and they both ran diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong. but i have an unsafe car with brake problems!
While driving on a local street i noticed the red brake light came on and then just a few seconds later multiple lights came on, master warning light, electronically controlled brake warning, anti-lock brake system, slip indicator, and check vsc system and i had no braking capability. i was finally able to get the car pulled off of the road so i turned off the car and then turned it on again and the same lights were still on. i turned it off again and after a few minutes i turned it back on and the lights were not on and everything was normal. braking system was working again. this has happened 3 times in the last 3 months and needless to say this car is no longer safe to drive. *js
I was driving when the check vsc warning came on as well as the indicator warning light, the brake warning light, the abs warning light and the vsc warning light. all the lights remained on until i reached my destination. the brake system made a strange "grunting" noise when the brakes were depressed but the brakes seemed to function properly. the lights came back on when the car was restarted and less than halfway on the return trip, went off. there has been no noticeable loss of braking. on the 21st of the month the lights came back on and have not gone off. the abs pump actuator appears to be cycling very quickly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving at 45 mph, the brakes were depressed but failed to completely stop the vehicle. all the warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake reservoir failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
First of all it started making loud squeeling noise when i would reverse use the breaks ..... then the other day as i was driving like normal all day and i came to a merge lane to turn onto the main street turning to the right i was behind a cop so he went then i went as soon as i started making the turn all the lights turned on the break went hard and the steering wheel was hard to move so i had to swearve and pull over till the vehicle finally came to a stop i put it in park then turned it off and on and the warning lights turned off and after a few mins drove like normal . then this happend again yesterday to my son here's his story: when i was driving home from work i was coming to a four way stop them all of a sudden all the lights came on the dash board the breaks got hard and the steering wheel too and i had to swerve to not hit the green truck in front of me then it barley made it home. as of this morning i tried starting it reversing it and it won't move all the lights are still on the vcs check system is on and it won't turn off or move . please help!
Check vsc system comes on, the brake becomes very hard and lights such as abs and others come up on the dashboard while in motion.
I had to replace today my brake actuator and bleed brakes because started in one week ago, every time i stepped in my brake made noise like when you honk for somebody. i would like to know if toyota had a recall about this problem because i think they did and i paid $1.800 for a problem i think they should pay for this problem in my car
I was driving to work in the morning and while on the freeway, my brakes suddenly did not work. every light on the dash turned on and it said "check vsc system" it has now happened three times and i am afraid to drive my vehicle. i searched online and saw that this has happened to a lot of other people so i feel it's a defect and there should be a recall.
Vsc lights and abs lights stay on and power assist to brakes is intermittant causing extreme pressure to be applied to stop. also audible alarm sounds frequently.
While driving under 45 mph on a straight suburban paved road, my brake light came on then off then on again directly followed by all the warning lights coming on and the display showed "check vcs system". i was entering a turn lane behind another vehicle and quickly realized the brake pedal was not working. i had no brakes! i had already put the car into the engine brake mode which helped slow my vehicle. i slammed down on the brake pedal as hard as i could and swerved away from the car in front of me to avoid hitting them. after successfully pulling over and to a stop, i turn the vehicle off and waited for a few minutes. i turned the car back on and all the lights and check vcs system was still displayed for about 30 seconds. i heard a small click and all the warning lights turned off and the car and brakes were back to normal. i am honestly now afraid to drive my own car for fear of not knowing when and if that will happen again.
While driving on city street, check vsc system warning appeared along with check engine/stability/antilock brake warning lights. vehicle did not lose braking completely but did not feel normal and was brought to side of road. after restart was lights cleared and has behaved normally so far. brought to dealer next day, unable to find problem.
Driving at 40 mph, check vsc system, brake, traction , warning lights came on simultaneously, vehicle experienced immediate loss of brakes and power steering. needed to use emergency braking and down shift to bring car to complete stop. was on suburban area paved road and was going straight.
Whiles driving the abs light came on , the caution lights came on and brake light came on at the same time. the brakes felt really odd. it pulsates. the alarm says check the vsc system
Today morning i saw my 2007 camry hybrid reporting " check vsc system" "check hybrid system" on the dashboard. i the breaking seems to be hard. i dont see my vehicle in the recall list though but vehicle has a issue. the customer support does let me detail the process and is helping me anyway. abreast me the procedure to take it up further with toyota.
I started my car this morning and a message that said check vsc system appeared. the brake light and master warning lights also appeared. i started to go out the drive way and could not press the brakes. it was a little jumpy and the brakes are hard to press now.
I was doing about 55 on the beltway on 6/23/15. i went to slow down the car as the traffic was beginning to back up. the brakes failed and i was able to steer onto the shoulder and let it coast until finally the brakes started to work again.
The toyota camry hybrid shows the "check vsc system" message on the dashboard with the brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights. upon research it seems like a known toyota issue with their faulty abs accumulator. the replacement cost is a staggering $2500+ quoted by the dealers. without replacing it affects the brake systems. there is pulsating in the brakes. there is also water pump leak associated with this. this should be handled by toyota with a recall. there are lots of reporting for this same issue and fixing this issue is so costly and for a know failed/fauly component.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to galaxy toyota (located at 750 nj-36, eatontown, nj 07724, (732) 544-1000) where it was diagnosed that the abs activator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. no further assistance was offered. the approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
Decrease in braking while driving. "barking" sound when depressing brake pedal (hard). sound occurs in park also. no warning lights displayed on dashboard as of yet. delay in braking when shifting out of park.
Check vsc system warning came on along with brake and other warning icons. have noticed that this is a more than normal problem for 2007 camry hybrids.
I was just leaving my house and approaching a stop sign. as i engaged to brakes nothing happened and out of nowhere the car makes a hard stop and my dash lights up with warning lights. instantly nothing about this car seems safe!
Driving today with my son in the car i lost all brake power. unable to use the brakes then moments later it returned.
When braking for a yellow stoplight. i lost all brakes and brake pressure. several indicator lights including the abs light as well as a message "check vsc system". there were no vehicles next to me so i was able to change lanes to clear traffic in oncoming turn lanes and pass through the intersection safely. the brakes reengaged at the next application of the brake. we drove the vehicle home and the event occurred at each stop, approx 10 occurrences, depressing the brake and failing with the errors above then redepressing to engage the system. *tr
Braking went very soft. check vsc system warning message appeared along with multiple dash light and additional error message to check hybrid system. *tr
I was backing up in my driveway, turning the vehicle around. the check vsc warning message came on as well as the abs warning light and another red exclamation point. the brakes ceased working properly, jerking with even the lightest touch, and not working at all for a few scary seconds, and then suddenly jerking as if they had been slammed on hard. after driving the vehicle down our roadway for a half mile, we concluded that the brakes were going to continue to do this as the condition did not change. *tr
I had taken the car in for an oil consumption test. while i was there i was advised of a bulletin stating an brake reservoir tank needed to be replaced. when i got the car back everything seem fine. the next day i heard what i would call a chirping coming from inside the engine department. i didn't have time to see where it was coming from at that time. i checked it later the next day, but couldn't get it to act up. again, the next day i heard it again. it took several days for me to figure out that it only showed up when the brakes were depressed. i waited to take care of it since i knew i was going to take the car back for the oil consumption test and it was only a noise. on 2/7/15 i took it back to the dealer. they told me it was a faulty actuator and it would cost $1447.39 to repair. i went on line regarding the problem with the reservoir. it states "analysis of the failure data indicate that each condition provides warning prior to any reduction in power assisted braking, with less than 10 percent of all reports and claims involving diagnostic codes or complaint narratives indicating increased braking effort or reduced brake effectiveness. in addition, most of the incidents in which reduced braking assist appears to have occurred involved operation in a reduced assist mode and not a sudden, complete loss of power assisted braking". in those cases they will replace the actuator. i feel this was caused by by the reservoir being replaced. i never had a problem until this was done!
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed and the stopping distance increased. the contact indicated that the brake and abs sensors illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 175,232.
When i was driving at 65 mph..the check vsc system warning came on. this happened about 1 month ago. i thought nothing of it because it went off after i started the car again...so 3 weeks later it comes on again and goes off. when it cane on the brakes didn't work as well, and all of the warning lights were on. yesterday on 3/25/2015 it came on and has now stayed on. the brakes are working correctly, however, i know something is wrong. i have been researching this issue and found out that toyota is assisting with fixing this issue. m y next step is to call them. *tr
on 20 march 2015, while starting the car, a warning indicator showed up on my instrument panel. the indicator stated ( check hybrid system.....vsc system ). i parked the car for the day. day 2, i took the car to a auto shop and had a basic scan that reads abs codes performed on the car. the basic scan reveled to "replace battery pack". two mechanics informed me while performing the scan, a burning odor was observed from the car. i drove the car home and parked it. i lastly observed the only information displayed from the instrument panel was " check hybrid system". the only lights on were the warning light and the engine light. *tr
While driving on freeway car lost some braking power and slight pulsing could be felt when pressing on brakes. at the same time the dash lights all lit up; emergency brake light, abs light, warning lights, and screen said check vsc system. prior to system failing emergency brake light would randomly turn on... very scary when driving 65 mph. also at slower speeds, it is difficult to apply adequate pressure on the brake pedal to stop normally.
"check vsc system" . brake system will not work properly. must push very hard to get any braking. then the vsc will engage and brake very hard. i experienced this one week ago; my wife experienced it this morning dropping of the kids to school. the car has a very dangerous jerking action as the brakes engage and disengage based on the computer. *tr
While driving my car lost all braking capabilities with "check vsc system" message on instrument panel, abs light, parking brake light, traction control light, engine light, warning light illuminated. fortunately, i was able to pull car off of the road and into a parking lot. i waited several hours and tried again to start the car to take to toyota for service. the car ran just fine driving to toyota and now they are refusing to fix because it will not repeat the issue. i told them of warranty enhancement program ze1 which indicates the problem with the car, they are not willing to fix still. this is a serious safety issue that will kill someone eventually. if i am in an accident caused by this issue with toyota not willing to fix, i will be filing lawsuit. god help me because i have two small kids that ride in my car often. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that the brake system failed to engage while attempting to stop. the driver had to shift gears into reverse and neutral in order to reduce speed. also, the contact attempted to engage the emergency brake which failed to engage. the driver was able to merge to the side of the road, where the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal functioned. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the abs module needed to be replaced. in addition, the contact mentioned that the brake fluid reservoir was replaced under a manufacturer campaign. however, the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000. ## vin passed ## toyota camry hybrid ##
I was driving my car going to work i was going 30 mph when with out any explanation a brake red warning light pop up in the screen on my 2007 toyota hybrid i try to put the brakes and they were not working i begging to panic thanks god i do not enter the highway and i was able to pull to a mechanic shop that was very closed. the mechanic check the brakes in the car and every looks good he said i told him what are you taking about the brakes where not working i explain and then i remember a couple weeks ago i got a recall in the mail and give to mechanic and he explain to me that i have to take the car to the dealer right away. i am afraid to drive this car i contact the toyota head quarters and they said they will fixed for free the real issue here is many of this cars in the roads we drive all children in these cars. they recall should say take you car to the dealer right away because you can injured yourself o somebody many lives will be safe in this companies built their cars paying more attention specially to the brakes. i am very concern about this issue. today all i have to say i thank god that i am alive and i do not injured myself or any other person. *js
While driving on the freeway ian's the brakes failed to apply no pressure. emergency lights turn onwait about 10 minutes there and turn the car back on and it started working again. call my local toyota dealer said it will cost 1500 dollars to fix . don't know if this will happen again. *tr
While i was driving on level ground with the foot lightly on the accelerator, a warning bell and various warning lights went off (including abs and check vsc system). when i put on the brakes i had to push much harder than usual in order to slow the vehicle. these conditions continued for three miles, at which point the warning signals discontinued and the braking returned to normal. both an independent repair shop and the local toyota dealer did not find error codes or identify a cause for what i experienced. the dealer installed a new brake fluid reservoir as part of a limited service campaign. it would not, however, install a new brake actuator assembly or brake stroke sensor as part of the ze1 warranty enhancement since it did not find error codes. toyota's national customer experience center would also not authorize the replacement of these parts due to a lack of error codes. six months and 5000 miles later the problem has not happened again. updated 09/06/16*lj updated 11/27/2017*cn
Started the car and the "brake" warning light immediately came on. also, in the multi-information display at the center of the speedometer, the message "check vsc system" appeared. i thought maybe my parking brake was causing a problem, so i engaged and disengaged that. then i tried to drive the car. the brake pedal behaves as if there is no brake-assist. i jam it to the floor to get minimal braking. i drove slowly and carefully home in this condition. in subsequent trips (over the last two days) i have only seen this again one more time. when the system does not report the problem, the brakes work fine. and in that one case where the problem re-appeared, i was able to turn the car off and back on again a few times, until the problem disappeared. i have not seen the problem begin while i am driving -- only when i am starting the car. however, i've now seen others describe the problem as beginning during driving, so i will be extremely careful and get the car to the dealer asap. *js
My daughter was driving and all of a sudden the brake pedal started to have difficulty braking. there was a thump of some sort in the feel of the brake pedal when being depressed. the next morning when starting the car, there was an error message displayed saying "check vsc system with check hybrid system alternating. these messages along with the check engine, traction control and several other lights lit up and remained on. this is the second time this has happened to this car and after searching the internet i have found out that this is a very common, dangerous and expensive problem with the toyota camry hybrids. from many similar stories i have read, toyota and toyota dealers respond to this issue as a known problem and if they are so aware there should be a suitable resolution offered along with a recall for all toyota camry hybrid owners so our lives will not be in danger. delaying fixing this issue will eventually cost someone their life. *tr
I was getting off of the highway. i started to decelerate and i lost a majority of my brake power. all of the lights on my dash came on, and my display said check vsc system. i pulled onto the shoulder was slamming on my brake since i had very little brake power at this point. i turned off my car and turned it back on several times. the lights stayed illuminated. i was 1/2 a mile from work at this point. i drove with my hazard lights on and took it slow to work. when i got to work and pulled into the parking lot, the lights went off. *tr
Toyota hybrids have a braking device in the transmission. this device can be applied at any time. when using the transmission brake the vehicles speed is reduced at a considerable rate. when braking using this method the brake lights do not come on. there is no indication that the vehicle is braking. i use this method on a routine basis and was informed of no brake lights by another driver. i use this system of braking while going downhills in the city and driving in the mountains. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact received notification from the manufacturer for a service campaign to address the internal malfunction of the brake actuator assembly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than three times for diagnostic testing. the dealer was not able to remedy the failure with the manufacturer's service campaign ze1. after the repair, the service engine soon warning light, abs warning light, traction control warning light, and slip indicator continued to randomly flash and remained illuminated. the contact also stated that the push button start would not properly function intermittently and the contact was not able to start the vehicle numerous times without warning. the manufacturer was also notified several times that the service campaign did not prevent the failure from occurring. the vehicle was to be taken back to the dealer for further testing. the contact was waiting on instructions from the manufacturer to provide a permanent remedy for the condition to address the failure and received no resolution. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 126,355.
Abs actuator pump assembly problem. 89000 miles on car 2007 camry hybrid vsc control warning comes on. the dealer said i needed new brakes. got new brakes and still having the same problem with the brakes. when backing up the brakes lock and the car jerks as if the brakes were hit hard. the new brakes also are making the same noise as the original brakes. i no longer feel safe for myself and my grandchildren who are with me in this car. *tr
I was driving at ~35 mph toward an intersection of stopped cars. i pushed the brake pedal to begin to stop. the brake pedal went soft and pushed to the floor, with little or no slowing of the vehicle. at the same time the dashboard lit up a lot of warning lights, i did not have time to check the warning lights. i swerved into the turn lane where there were no cars and began to make a wide left. i again began to apply the brakes, this time the brakes worked. i pulled into a parking lot and parked. the warning screen said something like "check vcs system". "brakes" warning light and "abs" warning light was illuminated with others which i did not take note of. i turned the vehicle off and called for a tow to the toyota dealer. turning the vehicle on again showed no warnings. *tr
While driving all brake lights lit up on dash, "vsc check system" message showed. but the car seemed to brake fine, until i went to park. the brake went completely soft and the car continued forward motion until running into the curb. upon restarting the car all the lights were back to normal. it happened again later in the day, lights come on, brakes fail. luckily i was going very slowly and able to stop the car by pumping the brakes. *tr
This has happened several times. the vcs system warning indicators go off on the car, including the brake light the abs light and then the brakes fail. i took it into the dealership on thursday, nov. 6, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it since the computer didn't register a code. the brake light went on again on saturday, nov, 8. and then the vcs system warning indicators went off when i started my car on tuesday, nov. 11. and the brakes failed. i cannot drive this car around like this not knowing when the brakes are going to fail. it's not safe, and i can't get any help from the dealership. i don't have the option of not driving into work. i need a car. this car is supposed to be safe. *tr
