Problems with 2007 Suzuki Forenza ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Vehicle has odor of smoke or unknown smell advised suzuki who referred me to someone who does not handle repairs. i advised them i work for an auto body who states vehicle is unsafe to drive- passenger air bag light is also on. recall notice advises of significant risk of fire. steering column looks to be warped and ignition switch is not working.

While driving the car on the highway the light for the engine came on and the car died. after being towed it was determined that the head was blown. after replacing the engine the light remains on and now there is a problem with the transmission. there is supposed to be a defect in a sensor for the transmission that keeps these problems happening in this vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 suzuki forenza. when the vehicle was started, smoke appeared from the steering wheel. immediately, someone screamed outside the vehicle and alerted the contact to exit the vehicle quickly. when the contact exited the vehicle, smoke and flames shot out of the steering wheel. an independent mechanic, who happened to be in the area, advised to open the hood so the battery could be disconnected. while the technician was disconnecting the battery, the fire department arrived at the scene and assisted the technician to extinguish the fire. a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's friend. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested copies of the fire pictures. the failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

I bought 2007 suzuki forenza with only 50 miles on it. i have had nothing but problems with it and now it poses a safety risk since the dealership can't find anything about it. it suddenly stops while i am driving. i lose control and need to move it all the way across the highway. i have come several times close to being hit. all lights on the dashboard are showing even though it might not be the problem.

I keep having to stick a key in my shift lock just to get the car out of park and has been occurring for a while now. the part you put the seat belt into when you put it on keeps sticking down so you can't wear a seat belt sometimes and i have had to replace my transmission range sensor about every 3 months since i have had the car which is ridiculous. *tr

Before taking my kids to school, i put my car in reverse to back out of my parking space, as soon as i switched it from reverse to drive, my car would not move. i noticed that on the digital screen that the "d" had a slash mark as if to say "no driving", and the check engine light came on. i put the car in park and turned it off. i restarted it to see if maybe it was a glitch in the system. this time, i went from park to drive and the slash mark was still on drive, however i was able to drive the car very slowly.. it wouldn't go over 5mph. i reversed and parked back into my parking space. once this happened, i decided to do some research. turns out, it is the transmission range sensor, and a lot of owners are having the same issue. the next day, i decided to attempt to drive it again.. because we all know these cars have a mind of their own and seem to decide to go bad one day and act completely normal the next! i started the car and the check engine light was on, but seemed to drive fine. i drove it to have it tested at the auto store. the test confirmed that it was the transmission range sensor. i then stopped at a store on my way home. i was in the store less than 5 minutes, came out to my car, and it would not start! i thought the battery had ironically died. my brother in law came to jump it, but had no success. i turn the key all the way over, and the service lights come on, but it wont even try to turn over.. its almost as if the car has nothing under the hood... crazy that it wont even attempt to start. my brother in law says it may be the starter, but something tells me this all has something to do with the transmission range sensor. please put this part on recall! i've seen enough complaints from owners that i cant believe there hasn't been one yet. enough is enough! recall the transmission range sensor! this is dangerous!!!! *tr

This is the 2nd recall on the drl module in 2 years. i have had to replace my battery terminals on the car. the headlights won't turn off unless i unhook the battery. the recall got started in may 2014, the recall was mailed out in july 2014 and the recall is being done while suzuki does not have the parts. the car company will take for ever to get the parts. i called suzuki and was told that if my car catches on fire it is not their concern. in the meantime i have no other way to work. i can not register the car, can not do the inspection, can not drive it. this is such a hardship for a lot of people. suzuki says that they will put you through to their corporate office, but that is a big joke. is it any wonder why they have not sold new vehicles in the us since 2012.i just want my car fixed and suzuki will take care of all the electrical wrongs on my car. if enough people complain something will get done. *tr

We were in our apartment when the complex maintenance worker knocked on our door and said our car was on fire. the car was off, sitting in the parking lot unused. we went outside and waited for the fire department to arrive, and put out the fire. it was found that the wiring behind the fuse panel had caught fire and caused extensive damage to the dash and door panel. it was after this that we found out there was a recall on our vehicle we had not been notified about. *tr

On 11/11/2013 my car was parked in my driveway and caught fire (electrical) this is one of the recalls on this vehicle,(certain passenger vehicles, headlamp low beam or daytime running light (drl) function may be inoperative due to a melted splice pack on the wiring harness). i have had these problems with my vehicle the headlamp low beam and the daytime running light, would not turn on or off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 suzuki forenza. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle decelerated. the vehicle was restarted but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission sensor failed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000. the vin was unavailable...updated 12-11/14 *bf .

When turning my car on and putting it into reverse, the car suddenly jerked and the check engine light came on. the "r" should appear for reverse on the dash, but all the letters ("p", "r", "d", etc) were scrambled together. the car drove in reverse and when i put it into drive, it jerked again and then would hardly accelerate. after driving it for a couple minutes, turning it off, and turning it back on, it would finally accelerate normally, but the check engine light would still be on and the gears would still jerk. the check engine light would go off after a few days and everything would be fine, but still the same problem happens again in a short term. *tr

Dash lights went out in car. checked fuse and no bad fuse. went to drive the car and then noticed had no break lights, head lights, and windows did not roll down. i had high beams if i wanted to drive it while holding the light switch for the high beams.had all fuses checked, and was then told it was in the wiring!!! car had been in the shop before for transmission range sensors. it seems to be one issue after another with this car all of a sudden. tire pressure light come on for a few days then goes out for a few, and that is with new tires. not very happy with this car at all.. *js

I just had this part replaced in january 2012 now 2 months later check engine light going on in the middle of driving. went to autozone and guess what transmission range sensor again!!!!! i bought part from dealer in january and had my licensed auto mechanic put it in, now car doing exactly same thing it did in january car jerking into reverse , scrambled gear letters on dash board, this part is defective what do i have to do replace it every 2 months!!!! make it a recall already , i am not the only complaint!!!! *tr

When turning my car on and putting it into reverse, the check engine light came on and my car jerked into gear and where the r should appear for reverse on the dash, all the letters were scrambled together. the car drove in reverse and then when i put it into drive, it jerked again and then would hardly accelerate. after driving the car for a couple minutes, turning it off, and turning it back on, it would finally accelerate but the check engine light would still be on and the gears would still jerk. the check engine light would go off after a couple days and everything would be fine and then it would all start again. then my car is starting to switch over into neutral when driving 60mph+ and now it will do this multiple times when driving at any speed. when it switches over to neutral like this while i'm driving, the d for drive on the dash will become scrambled like it does when it jerks into reverse. the problem is getting worse. *kb

My check engine light came on after i placed the car in reverse, it gave a big "thunk" sound. i turned the car off and restarted it. the check engine light is still on. when i went to the dealership to get a diagnosis and they said it was a transmission range sensor gone bad! $250 to replace. as you can see that there are a lot of customer complaints on the same issue but no recall. i have already had the brake light sensor replaced earlier this year and a power steering pump! not liking suzuki right now! *tr

I bought a 2007 suzuki forenza 4 door sedan new in 2007 but now the drive lights would not turn off did this once before about three months ago but turned off after about 47 minutes after i took the battery cable a lose. it started again on may 24, 2011 when my wife took our kids to basketball practice she smelt something burning, the car burst into flames with a lot of smoke down by her leg, another motorist saw her and put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. the car does not run it will turn over but not crank no power in car, no lights nothing works. car is full of extinguisher smoke from trying to put fire out. the harness with wires going inside of it inside of car is melted, had to have car towed home 31.9 miles. called suzuki about car they asked me is there a recall on the car, go figure please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also when car was working the tire pressure gauge stayed on even with new tires that i could not keep on car is wearing tires down and last but not least air conditioner was only blowing hot air even though it is full of freon. *tr

Transmission range sensor, is going out my car will not stay in gear anymore very dangerous to drive and is not covered under warranty and cost 300 dollars also my air bad sensor on the driver side does not go off anymore and have already broke a door handle suzuki is horrible which haven't checked the price on those and i have saw a lot of people are having the same problems. *tr

I have had to repair so much on this car in such a short amount of time, i am going nuts...almost every month its something else! i have had blown head gaskets, replaced broken door handles (they broke again), chipping paint (for no reason), brake light switch system, now the transmission range sensor is bad. to replace the tires, the cheapest you can find is $130/tire new. i am out of thousands of dollars when the care was supposed to be under warranty and "americas best powertrain" but everything in the car that is going bad, isn't covered! my 2007 suzuki forenza sucks! *tr

Transmission would sometimes slip what feels like neutral (no power) while in drive. other times transmission would stay in drive and would not down shift auto or manual. frequency is increasing. cost at dealer is financially prohibitive at this time. research indicates problem is common to this and prior year manufacture. *tr

I am sick and tired of replacing my transmission range sensor!!!!!!!!!! and now after doing so, once again. my car wont start, battery is fine. i think that this needs to be a recall!!!! i have one more year left to pay off this car. i cant afford to keep replacing this problem. had to replace this problem in 2009, and now again. someone fix this!!!! *tr

First was the seats belt this was fix , after that was the trans range switch i have to pay because they refuse to pay for that and now is the air bag light is on and i call the manufacturer and they send me to the shop but the shop refuse to check the car because the warranty is expire but this car is from 2007. *tr

Oxygen sensor was bad 3 months after buting car, both airbags in dash are defective. sensors are lighting up and it says can deploy at any time get car serviced. my dealership acts like they don't want to help me. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 suzuki forenza. the vehicle has lock out security, which caused the doors to lock automatically when the engine was off with the key in the ignition. the contact stated that her baby was locked inside the vehicle and the police had to be called to unlock the doors. the failure mileage was 8,500 and the current mileage was 9,000.
