We have classified the 50 complaints from 2006 Scion xB about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
My car was parked in my driveway over night. the next day when i went outside to wash the car i noticed there was a very large 'l' shaped crack running the length of approx. 3' from the top of the windshield down, then curving and running for another 17' towards the driver's side. this large of a crack happened overnight!! the crack has seemingly appeared out of nowhere as there is no other damage that the crack would have originated from; it appears to begin under the trim of the windshield. i have done quite a bit of research and discovered that this same problem has been experienced by many other scion xb owners. this would lead me to believe that the windshields toyota installed in the xb model are defective. again, my car was parked in my driveway overnight and i live in a very quiet residential neighborhood. *tr
My 2006 scion xb has a crack on the front windshield, starting from the center top extending straight downward approximately 6 inches and then proceeds to crack in the direction towards the drivers side which again extends another 6 inches. the crack has no visible point of impact from a rock or foreign object and originates from on top of the windshield behind the trim. upon further investigation and searching online i found many other scion xb consumers who share the same exact crack similar to mine. it is clearly due to the toyota oem windshield being defective, causing the windshield to crack on its own. the scion xb was parked in a parking lot in residential when first noticed. *tr
Came out to the car this morning to find a " l " shaped crack starting from the top middle of the windshield down about 8 inches, and taking a 90 degree turn twords the driver side for another 12 inches. upon inspection the crack has no impact point and looks to have started from behind the weather stripping. contacted my local dealer and they refuse to believe there is a common problem. a simple google search of 'scion xb windshield' turns up thousands of results and a class action lawsuit. repair estimate; 680$. *tr
Follow up to complaint # 10203228. my windshield has sustained two more brakes. i'm ready for my fifth windshield in four years. all brakes have occurred on paved roads. *tr
Out of no where; no trees, no trucks in front of me or any other vehicles, on a clear day, my windshield made a loud pop noise and it cracked from the top passenger side edge to the center of the windshield. it slowly creeped across to the mid-line of visibility on the driver side over the next 24 hrs. -- i was surprised to learn this is a common issue with this year and model! *js
Toyota scion xb, 2006: windshield has been cracking ongoing beginning 2 weeks after i purchased this car. toyota/scion refuses to acknowledge this ongoing problem, and offers no replacement. i replaced 2 windshields within a year and lived with another crack for 3 years until now, as i have accumulated 3 cracks. toyota offers me the chance to pay twice as much for their glass as the cost for aftermarket replacement. *tr
Crackwindshield: i have(my insurance company) has replaced 3 windshields in my 2006 scion xb and i currently have a (l) shape crack in my windshield, which starts at he top of my rear-view mirror. if i decide to replace this windshield this will be number 4. i have complained to the toyota dealership when-ever i bring my car in for maintenance and i have been advised that the windshield is thicker than most due to the shape of the glass! hah! this is seriously a problem. if i contact my insurance company they replace the glass, if i want to consider a new insurance company they consider this a claim against my policy and this makes my insurance coverage higher with other insurance companies, which of course limits my options! this windshield situation is costly and dangerous! *tr
On tuesday january 19, 2010 on my way home from work i noticed a small crack in the center of my windshield right behind the rearview mirror of my 2006 scion xb. i was going to take it to a shop to be repaired on wednesday, on wednesday morning i saw the crack had doubled in size and was in the shape of an l going towards the drivers side and was beyond ability to repair. i thought it could have been a rock that caused the damage, but i could not recall a rock causing such damage in so little time. so i did some research online to see that there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints of the l shape crack in the 2004 - 2006 scion xb windshield. i did more research and i was told to file a complaint with nhtsa in hope it could be resolved since this is a safety hazard. *tr
For the second time, the windshield on my 2006 scion xb has developed a large crack and will need to be replaced. in neither instance do i recall anything hitting the windshield. *tr the current crack developed overnight while the car was parked. in my experience, this frequency of windshield cracking is highly unusual. i think the windshields (or perhaps the windshield mounts) must be defective.
Windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked overnight while sitting in my driveway. i discovered a crack starting from the edge of the windshield, approx eye-level on the drivers side. the crack extends about 10 inches downward at a 45 degree angle. there were no signs of a rock chip or other exterior damage to the windshield. this crack was not present the evening before then the car was parked. *tr
Front windshield developed an 'l' shaped crack from the top center of the windshield behind the rearview mirror extending to the passenger side. at first i thought something hit it on my way home and for some reason i didn't notice... when i inspected it, there was no sign of anything hitting it, no ding no anything, it seemed to just appear overnight. i took it to the dealer only to be told that i had gone over the 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty by a couple hundred miles. i love my car, but the more i read the more discouraged i get. it seems if i pay to replace the windshield, it will only break again. if i don't have it replaced, i could be decapitated or crushed in an accident. for only having 36700 miles that shouldn't have happened unprovoked. *tr
On september 25 th my family and i went to the fair in our town in our 2006 scion xb. came home parked it in the drive way and the next morning we got up went outside around 10:00 a.m. to wash our cars and the windshield in the scion was broken. there is a crack from the rear view mirror in a v shape going half way down the windshield. i have been looking line and have found that this happens with this car. there was even a class action law suite on in. *tr
2006 scion xb windshield crack in middle of rearview mirror in to a "l" shape ! no apparent damage woke up one morning and was cracked!! *tr
2006 scion xb. while parked in driveway overnight, a large crack developed running down behind the rearview mirror and then making a 90 degree turn towards the driver side. *tr
Rear power windows fail to operate. safety hazard in hot climates. toyota has acknowledged in a technical service bulletin, but repairs not covered except under 3 year/36k mile factory warranty. suggest a recall to repair this safety hazard, especially in hot climates where children can be trapped in the vehicle if unable to operate the windows correctly. *tr
This is my second complaint around this issue. my 2006 scion xb has a cracked windshield. this is the second time! my research indicates this is an unusually common problem in this model and i note that this will be the 89th complaint of this type on this site. i have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles in my life and my windshield has been hit by rocks on many occasions. not once have those strikes resulted in a fatally cracked windshield until my scion. a small nick will almost invariably end up in major crack. i was told by the dealership that this is because of how the windshield is sloped. i believe it is a cheap piece of glass or a design flaw of some kind. at $500 a windshield it is becoming an expensive proposition to own this vehicle. *tr
Woke up to a cracked windshield behind the rearview mirror. line crack that is spreading slowly. *tr
Two months ago, as i was driving on the freeway during rush hour, i heard a noise. at first, i did not notice anything different until i then glanced at the passenger side of my windshield. there was a crack starting from the top of the windshield to about a 1/3 down. it has slowly been getting longer and is now halfway to the driver's side. when i got out of the car to examine the crack, there is no sign of a rock or any other item hitting the windshield. my insurance will only cover it after i pay my deductible (which is more than a new windshield would cost me). *tr
Problem #1: front windshield cracked. i replaced the windshield and it cracked again on the replacement. a small pebble hit the windshield while driving on the freeway that caused it to crack. problem #2: rear hatch handle broke when it was used. i opened the rear hatch handle and the plastic piece broke off in the process almost injuring my hand. i contacted scion about the situation they that they were aware of. they required me to receive an assessment from the dealer. i drove to my nearest dealer and they did not require an assessment because they said the problem was already known. i contacted scion again and they get back to me for a solution. the solution was for me to replace the rear handle with a high price amount. the rear handle expensive should have been taken care of on scion's end, especially when a near injury could have take place. i received case number for my records. *tr
Pulled my 2006 scion xb into the garage after waxing it. about 30 minutes later got in to pull it out of the garage and there was a large "l" shaped crack in the middle of the windshield. *tr
Windshield cracked on a short two hour drive, nothing else unusual happened. *tr
The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. it occurred while the car was parked. it starts on the driver side and is dog-legged in shape. *tr
2006 scion just driving down the freeway and the windshield just cracked from driving. *tr
I own a 2006 scion xb and i have a huge crack that appeared out of nowhere on my windshield. this crack started out big, and then only got bigger with time. upon doing much research, i have learned that this is a very common complain with the 2004-2006 scion xb mofels and i believe it is a safety hazard. *tr
Standard driving down the street, suddenly small chip in bottom left hand corner of the windshield appeared, no other noticeable chips or cracks. car was parked overnight in secure garage and obtained a large crack greater than 6 inches in the top right hand corner of windshield. windshield was replaced. *tr
Windshield stress crack on scion xb. 2006 my. the crack happened spontaneously from the rearview mirror and curving right. from investigating numerous posts, discussions, etc. on the internet, this appears to be a significant defect. just google "scion xb windshield cracking" and you'll find a plethora of incidents. some customers report replacing windshields 8 times in one year! *tr
Window has an l shaped cracked that appeared. i took it to the dealership, they said there is a small chip at the top. i cannot find the chip. my father in law looked. the man spent 30 years making automotive glass and could not find it. *tr
Windshield cracked from top center down 5"turned to pass side went 13" , 2nd same time started on right pillar across center ended just under other, happened when defrosters were on for about 15 mins and outside temp was 10 degrees or a little less. this happened while driving 25-30 mph on major road ,wakefield area, making a slight turn (bend)in road to right. *tr
My 2006 scion xb (as well as every other one out there) has a design flaw in the windshield. i am on my second windshield. cracks happen for no reason, something as simple as turning on your defrost. scion replaced my first windshield because my car was under warranty. now they are hesitant to do it again. i let them know there are thousands of people on the web with the same problem i have. apparently it's the 04-06 scion xb. i cannot afford to go out and replace a windshield everytime this happens, on top of my car payment, and insurance, not to mention my other bills. i think scion owes it to the customers to do something about it. they claim to not know anything about this design flaw, but after some internet searching, there has been a class action lawsuit filed against them for the windshield problem. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time. *tr
The windshield cracked on the driver side at eye level. from the side of the windshield at the roof support moving towards the middle of the shield. the crack occurred overnight while the vehicle sat in our garage . it did not experiences any type of impact. no repair has been made only an estimate of replacement cost. *tr
A spontaneous crack appeared in my 2006 scion xb windshield while sitting overnight. the crack starts at the top center edge of the windshield, travels down behind the rear view mirror, and angles towards the driver's side in an l shape. there is no chip or other visible damage associated with the crack. there was no rock impact in days/weeks/months preceding the crack. it's perhaps 8-12" long. the lack of any obvious or accidental cause for this crack is what concerns me and seems to imply a defect. *tr
I came out to my car and the windshield had an l- shaped crack, thats it. the car was sitting in my driveway. *tr
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. this is the second occurrence. *tr
Windshield cracked on passenger side while vehicle sat in closed garage overnight. *tr
I own a scion xb 2006 and have the same problem many other scion xb owners are having. my front windshield keeps cracking in the typical "l" shaped pattern. the first time was last year, it cracked for no reason during the late spring. a rock never hit it, nor did anything else that led to the crack. yesterday, i noticed the same "l" shape crack starting, this morning, it spread across my windshield to the passenger side. the crack is just under 3 feet long. this is exactly the same as the first crack, starts on the drivers side about three inches from the end of the window frame and moves to the passenger side. i've had it replaced by my insurance company using their suggested auto glass repair people. i will have it replaced again, tomorrow. so far, this seems to occur every 8,000 miles. i called scion today to tell them about my situation after finding numerous web-sites dedicated specifically to this problem. it seems to be a structural problem with the car and spans many years models as the newer 2008's have the same issues as my 2006 and the older 2005 models. *tr
I just went into the garage to move my scion and noticed a large crack in the shape of a j at the top middle of my windshield. when searching for auto glass on the net, i came across too many posts of xb owners with the same problem and see that it looks like a "silent recall". *tr
l shaped crack on windshield of my 2006 scion xb. had the windshield replaced and one week later the new windshield cracked in the same place with the same shape. it also happened overnight when not driven. *tr
Parked my car (2006 scion xb) outside one evening. woke the next morning and there was a large l-shaped crack near the rearview mirror. no rock or impact damage occurred, just a crack appeared. about 4 days later, not only had that crack grown, but i now had a new crack jutting in from the passenger side. both cracks exceed well over 18 inches. there is nothing of my doing or of an accident involved in these cracks. i have visited a number of online forums, and this appears commonplace with these xbs and their owners. it seems there is too much stress in the design on the glass, and it cracks at will. anyways, it appears to be a defect, and i do not want to pay $500 for a new windshield that is only to crack again at the slightest temperature change. please help us. scion needs to fix this issue. this isn't a spark plug...these windshields are $500 and we shouldn't have to replace them. *tr
My vehicle has not been driven but approximately 0.5 miles in 4 days. on the 5th day i got in my vehicle to drive and there was an "l" shaped crack across my windshield. this crack was not there the last time i drove my vehicle. the origin of the crack begins under the seam where the windshield meets the top of the car a few inches towards the driver's side of the vehicle. the crack then goes straight down for approximately 6 inches and then angles sharply towards the passenger side of the vehicle and continues for approximately 12 inches. there is no chip, crack, or nick that appears to be the cause of this large "l" shaped crack. the reason for the crack is completely unknown. *tr
I walked into my garage on 9/24/08 and found a l-shaped crack in my windshield. it starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror. my windshield did not have a crack when i left my car the night before. it is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hit it (no splinters in the glass). i contacted scion corporate this on 9/24/08 and they told me to make an appointment with a scion dealership. they said that it would be up to the dealership whether the replacement would be covered by the warranty and if the dealership deems that it shouldn't be, then i should get an estimate and contact them again with the information. they opened up a case number for me. i contacted miller toyota in culver city and took my car into the dealership 9/25/08 @ 1:00 pm. the service manager proceeded to run a ballpoint pin through the crack and told me that it would not be covered because there was pitting. i then requested an estimate, which came to $1.019.27. then i contacted scion corporate again and was told that they would arrange a person from corporate to inspect the windshield. scion corporate told me that the corporate rep would be there at noon on 9/29/08. i went to the dealership on 9/29/08 at noon and the representative was not there. and she didn't show for another 50 minutes. i told the service manager that i was leaving around 12:50 pm and he kept saying: "she will be here any minute". then as he gets to my car, i see a short asian woman with her hair pulled into a bun. he gives her a pen from his pocket and she runs a ballpoint pen through the crack (she spent 5-10 seconds with my car). the same service manager that did the ballpoint pen test was the one who wrote up the report to say the same thing. they are unconscionable. the funny thing is when i was researching my car purchase, i saw on edmunds that the 2006 scion xb had problems with spontaneous cracks forming in the windshield. *tr
I walked into my garage this morning and found a l-shaped crack in my windshield. it starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror. my windshield did not have a crack when i left my car yesterday evening. it is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hit it (no splinters in the glass). i contacted scion corporate this morning and they told me to make an appointment with a scion dealership (i am making an appointment for tomorrow morning). they said that it would be up to the dealership whether the replacement would be covered by the warranty and if the dealership deems that it shouldn't be, then i should get an estimate and contact them again with the information. they opened up a case number for me. the funny thing is when i was researching my car purchase, i saw on edmunds.com that the 2006 scion xb had problems with spontaneous cracks forming in the windshield. hopefully, toyota/scion resolves this issue in a reasonable manner. i will keep you posted on how this pans out. *tr
I have a 2006 scion xb and in february of 2007 app. 4 months after purchasing my car the windshield developed a crack in it, there was no sign of a rock hitting no noise i just looked up and it was cracked. the dealer replaced the window and just yesterday sep. 14, 2008 i got in my car and there was another crack i here a popping noise the night before and the next morning there was an l shaped crack in it. *tr
Our car was parked overnight, when getting into the car the next morning i noticed that the windshield had cracked in the shape of an l. *tr
I have a 2006 scion xb that was purchased in may 2006. last year, in 2007, a crack appeared that started on the edge of the windshield on the driver's side. they crack then grew from a line into an l shape. a month or so after that another l shaped crack appeared coming from the top of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. i replaced the windshield on august 29, 2008. last night the windshield was fine, this morning (september 12, 2008 - two weeks later!!) there is another l shaped crack behind the rearview mirror that appeared overnight while the car was sitting in my driveway. *tr
1. maybe a pebble impact 2. windshield crack (one time, i have not changed the windshield yet) 3. nothing yet. *tr
Around march 2008, i pebble hit my scion xb windshield and caused a small crack. about a week later the windshield cracked in different places and i had to get it replaced. recently, on august 4th, 2008, another pebble hit my windshield and another crack. and today august 27th, 2008, my friend who has an xb also got a crack on her windshield from a small pebble. i looked online for some sort of explanation and it seems that tons of scion xb owners are complaining of such a defect on their windshields. so i am also here to complain about this problem since im going through my 2nd windshield. *tr
I own a 2006 scion xb and parked the car in a parking lot. upon my return i found a crack in my windshield that started on the lower right side, went in about 2 inches, up about 6 inches, and then left about 12 inches. it does not appear that there was any impact or rock chip to initiate the crack. *tr
I purchased my scion xb 2006 in august of 2006. last week, wed. july 9, 2008, an l shaped crack appeared on my front windshield. it appeared overnight out of nowhere. i discovered it in the morning. there are no signs of trauma to the windshield. the crack starts at the very top edge of the windshield and goes in an l shape. the next morning (thur, july 10) a second l-shaped crack appeared in my windshield in the same fashion. this one is on the lower left side and also starts at the very edge of the windshield. again, there was no trauma to the windshield and the crack appeared out of nowhere. the two cracks are now heading toward each other, and i am worried this defective windshield will crack. after researching this issue online and talking to mechanics, i have found out that this is a common defect in the scion xb 2006 model. many owners have reported l-shaped cracks appearing out of nowhere and filed complaints. the mechanic i spoke with said that he has replaced many cracked windshields on scion xb's. he attributes what he termed this design defect to the fact that the car sits so low and the steep grade of the windshield. i know you have received numerous other complaints about this problem, and i urge you to take action.*tr
Windshield cracks on its own (not due to rocks or anything) there is an l shaped crack which starts at the top center of the windshield which is caused most likely by a defect in the design which caused the body to flex. *tr
2006 scion xb, found windshield cracked after leaving the car parked. the crack was not there in the morning but in the afternoon, an l shaped, 4" by 10" crack starting from behind rear view mirror appeared, the car has 7700 miles this is a "weekend car" as it is parked in the garage in most of the time. showed the crack to local scion dealer and they claim it was due to an impact from a pebble. they used a ball point to demonstrate that there is a pit. i am planning to replace the glass soon. *tr
