Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2006 Scion xB

Today, 6/13/08, i was washing my car....nothing unusual....after i was finished with the outside and started on the inside, i noticed a crack in the windshield....i wasn't even driving so nothing hit the windshield...after doing some research, i have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with this particular make and model.... *tr

found a l-shaped crack in my windshield. it starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror. my windshield did not have a crack when i left my car the night before. it is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hit the glass. took my car into the dealership . the service manager proceeded to run a ballpoint pin through the crack and told me that it would not be covered because there was pitting. *tr

A crack appeared in the windshield of my car while it was parked in my driveway. there was no trauma to the windshield prior to this crack appearing. *tr

I have a 2006 scion xb with only 9,000 miles on it, and i am about to replace the windshield for the third time with the same exact l-shape crack that begins at the top center goes down about 6 inches and then to the left 6 inches. no rock damage or other damage can be attributed to this. there is some kind of defect to cause a windshield to constantly crack in the same place every time with the same look. *tr

2006 scion xb cracked windshield. it is a problem with the scion that they corrected in their 2008 model. *tr

Stress crack appeared when i returned to my parked car in the morning. no impact could have happened. this is a reported design flaw in the 2006 scion xb, and i feel that it should be covered by warranty. *tr

17 inch crack just behind the rear view mirror. long crack starting at the rubber of the windshield going 7 inches down, crack turns in a 90 degree angle 10 inches towards the passenger. no impact, crack was not there when i parked my car. crack present when i got in my car the next morning. will be getting the windshield repaired tomorrow. will not have it replaced at this time since there has been a lot of issue of the windshield cracking again from other scion xb owners. i don't have the resources to keep replacing windshield as many other have had done. *tr

Noticed a crack in the windshield after vehicle parked overnight. crack is "l" shaped beginning at driver's side windshield edge approx. 12" from bottom, extending approx. 3" horizontally, then turning 90 degrees toward bottom of windshield and extending approx. 9". crack is not from debris and no pits can be felt anywhere along the crack. vehicle is in warranty but dealer states that since no recall has been issued the warranty does not cover the windshield. as of 6/16/08 the windshield has not been replaced. *tr

My scion was parked in a garage. the next morning when i went to get in the car i noticed a 12 inch crack in my windshield that started on the far drivers side and curved a little then went straight towards the middle of the car. the date of the crack was 4/19/08. toyota replaced the window on 4/22/08. i got into my car on 4/27/08 to go to a friends house 1 hour later i got into my car and there was another crack in my windshield. it started at the bottom of the window in the middle of the windshield and came up about 5 inches and curved towards the driver side for about 5 or 6 inches. *tr

I bought my scion brand new in nov. 2005. it was my first brand new car, and i love my xb. i have been having unacceptable problems with windshield cracks. i am currently on my 5th windshield, and today i came out and saw a new crack. approx. 12" on the lower passenger side. the car has been parked in the driveway facing the garage door since about 530pm yesterday. some one of the previous crack was due to a small pebble like object that lightly hit the windshield. it was instantaneously a 10" crack. my first two windshields were covered by my insurance, that last one i paid for out of pocket. with the new crack i will also have to pay for replacement unless toyota owns up to the defect. the new crack shows no signs of impact. it grows out from under the molding and goes up, then slightly to the right, then up again. i have contacted toyota twice hoping to get this solved. i'll keep my fingers crossed. *tr

My rear windshield has cracked and completely shattered 3 time in 6 months. i've had to pay out of pocket, and im tired of it....toyota claims there is no defect, but i've read on other sites that i'm not the only person this has happened to. my front windshield is now cracked from underneath the outside molding....how many thousands of dollars do i have to spend before they recall this issue. *tr

An "l" shaped crack that appeared without incident from the top section of my windshield above the rear-view mirror. approx. 10 inches long at this point. appears to be getting larger daily. no chips in windshield that could have caused a crack like this. i have an appointment tomorrow to have windshield replaced. *tr

This has to do with front windshield cracking. our windshield has several cracks from a couple of minor hits by what i would consider small pebbles. several cracks have formed and they are now joining together. i have read on line that this is a problem with these car's and therefore may be a defect. *tr

My windshield developed a crack starting from the top middle, directly behind the rear view mirror. the crack extended downward approximately 6-8 inches and then horizontally toward the driver's side approximately 6-8 inches, forming an "l" shape. i have no idea how this happened as i don't recall having any debris hit the windshield. 8tr

My 2006 scion xb has developed a crack in the windshield, "l" shaped from the top of the windshield, behind the rearview mirror, going perpendicular for about 6-8" then making a 90 degree turn toward the passenger side, extending for about 12". it has stopped progressing. it seemed to happen for no reason. this seems to be a common complaint amongst xb owners. *tr

I came out to 2006 scion xb in parking lot and found "l" shaped crack starting at the center of the top rubber seal and extending down and toward the passenger side. *tr

On the morning of march 13, 2008 i awoke to find a large l shaped crack(approx. 1 ft long/driver's side) in the windshield of my 2006 scion xb. i immediately called my insurance company and they made an appointment for me to have the windshield replaced the following day(costing me a $50.00 deductible). i could offer no reason as to how the crack happened...it seemed to just appear(as most of the other complaints i've read on here suggest). in addition, i have owned my xb for close to a year and a half and in that time i have had the windshield repaired 2 other times due to chips/small cracks. judging by the data i have found on this website and elsewhere, i would definitely conclude that there is a major defect in the 2006 scion xb. and this is definitely a safety hazard, being that the windshield is a major component of a vehicle's safety. *tr

I own a 2006 scion xb. the windshield cracked (at the edge) for no apparent reason in march 2008, and it was indicated by the dealer that it was due to installation. the windshield was replaced at no charge. it has cracked once again, december 2008, once again along the edge of the windshield. i have not had an opportunity to have it looked at to see if the dealer will replace it once again for no charge. this is also an inconvenience as the dealership is one hour from my home. *tr

Driving my scion xb down the freeway, a crack developed from the edge of the driver's side windshield and grew by 18 inches within seconds. after stopping to inspect the windshield, i found there was no impact point and this was a stress fracture. after reading internet forums and this websites complaints, i can see this is a common occurrence. *tr

My windshield developed a crack sitting in my driveway. crack is about a foot long starting from the top middle of my windshield into a "l" shaped towards/behind my rear view mirror. two days prior to the incident there was snow which lead to cold weather. i am planning to take my car to a local scion dealer for repair. i am hesitant to replace my windshield if another crack is going to develop. no pebbles/rocks hit my windshield while driving on highways to and from work. hopefully scion will replace the window at no cost. there is definitely a design flaw with the 2006 scion xb. others who complained had cracks develop without any material hitting the windshield. *tr

The windshield has been replaced twice due to l shaped cracks that developed from the side pillars. i am sure it is not because of being hit by a rock. the first time i thought i could hear the cracking sound while sitting in the car(11-05-07). the 2nd time, the car was in the garage & not driven that day. the day before, it had only been washed & put back in the garage. *tr

I purchased a 2006 scion xb in march of 2006. i did not drive it much as a student but now that i've graduated i see major problems in the vehicle design. i had one pebble hit the top part of my windshield in dec 2007 and it caused a vertical vein down the driver side of my window. i have since replaced the window and now, two months after, my windshield has again veined as a result of a pebble hitting the edge of the windshield. all of this occurred on a daily commute on the highway. since i actually had two different brands of windshield i can only conclude that this is not a windshield problem, but rather a design defect. the shape of the vehicle leaves the windshields susceptible to cracks more than other vehicles. for a vehicle that is supposed to be economical i feel that paying over 300 dollars every couple months for a new windshield is completely unacceptable and toyota should be held responsible. *tr

In the last four months i have developed three unrelated cracks in the windshield. the first one i had repaired. the second, a much larger crack, developed on the other side of the windshield two months later. i then had the whole windshield replaced. after about one month with the new windshield a new large crack has developed. *tr

Cracked windshield warranty claim denied by scion. no plausible reason given by toyota warranty inspector as to the reason for crack. *tr

3 windshields cracked in 15 months due to weather change. lower left corner of the windshield all 3 times. model: 2006 xb scion. *tr

I've had to replace my windshield twice in the past six months. the first time was because of a pebble and i went to the replacement place recommended by my insurance carrier. the second time the windshield just cracked. i was driving down the road and heard this "click". thought there was a crack, but saw nothing. next morning i got into my car and there was a crack about 3" long on the bottom, left, driver's side of the windshield. no little impact crater indicating a debris hit, just a crack. i went to one of those repair places and they did their thing, but over the course of 2 weeks the crack grew until it was about 18" long. finally just gave up and replaced it. when i called the windshield repair place they said they get a lot of xb calls. the windshield design is faulty causing it to keep cracking. i love my xb and don't want to get rid of it, but also don't want to keep buying windshields!!! *tr

My car was parked in the garage overnight. in the morning i noticed a crack on the windshield, beginning at the bottom where the glass meets the frame, in front of the approximate midpoint of the passenger seat, extending vertically upward approximately 8 - 10 inches, then traveling horizontally toward the driver's side, ending near the odometer. the crack was definitely not there when i parked the car the night before. *tr

Last week i found a foot long crack on the windshield of my 2006 scion xb when i went out to my car after work. in researching replacement options i found multiple posts on on-line forums indicating that the crack may be due to a design flaw. the crack begins near the rear view mirror and curves toward the driver's side with a total length of approximately 16-18 inches. *tr

Windshield cracking in several places. *tr

Windshield breaks for no reason, seems there must be a problem with the frame area that causes the windshield to break with temperature changes. *tr

There was a crack in the windshield behind the rearview mirror in the morning when i went out, it has spread downward and across the center over the past two days. *tr

I bought a used '06 scion xb in aug. '07 & w/in a week my windshield(ws) was leaking bigtime. there were no cracks & the carfax report came back clean w/ no prior accidents. i called the dealer & since it was under warranty they had a local ws co. replace the ws. that weekend i washed my car & noticed water running down the inside of the ws again by the rearview mirror. still no obvious reason of why it should be leaking. i was extremely concerned about electrical issues w/ the water & the fact that i live in portland which meant lots of rain. i called the dealer again & this time i asked for another co. to replace the glass, thinking the other co. had just done a bad job. after the 2nd time of fixing it i thought everything was fine until i noticed loud popping & cracking noises while driving. a couple of the pops were so loud it scared me because it sounded like the whole ws cracked, but there were no visible cracks. just in case i was hearing things, i had my husband ride along & he heard the same noises. a week or two later, i noticed that when the ws was fogging there were stream lines from water on the left inside and i knew those shouldn't be there because the last co. had put in a brand new ws. later, i finally noticed water dripping in the same spot & i knew it was leaking again. frustrated & not wanting to deal w/ it, i continued to drive the car with a leaky ws for about week, until i went through a car wash & noticed a strong stream of water running down the left inside of the ws inside the car. the following monday (today) i called the dealership. i'm taking the car in tonight. i'm suggesting, some sort of extra strength seal & possibly a sway bar to stabilize the vehicle more. if this doesn't work then i want to trade it in for a newer xb or possibly something else. my warranty is only for 100,000 miles & i'm half way there & i don't want to get to the point where i have to start paying to replace any of this when it is obviously a flaw with the car. *tr

I am currently on my second scion xb and have had significant windshield problems. with my current xb i have had approx. 8 cracks over the last 6 months. i had the first two chips repaired through my insurance company. however the third crack went across 50% of the windshield. shortly after i recieved another crack parallel to the first, also covering approx. 50% of my windshield. now i have got two new chips. i travel different routes to include the interstate, country roads, and city roads. i have even recieved cracks in various states. *cn

Windshield developed a crack without being struck by road debris. *tr

I have a 2006 scion xb and i love the car. for no apparent reason the windshield cracked from the top passenger side the crack started today. it is started at the top of the window at the trim and is moving down to the mid line of the window turning toward the driverside. *tr

Cracked windshield behind mirror, no none cause. crack about 10 inch curves towards driver side. *tr

Windshield cracked at the top behind the rearview mirror. it went down from the top of the windshield 6 inches then turned to the right and went 13 inches before stopping. i have seen two other scions on the road that are cracked in the exact same spot. *tr

My 2006 scion xb windshield has multiple cracks that aren't from a chip. i have heard that this is a common problem and that toyota will not resolve it for the consumer. *tr

Woke up to find unexplained crack in windshield in shape of "l" about foot long each side. no previous trauma to windshield. a few weeks later several more curvy cracks sprang up, starting from edge of windshield, and not connected to each other. no accidents or debris striking car. lots of tiny flecks in glass. paid $200 to replace. *tr

I own a 2006 scion xb. i noticed an l shaped crack in my windshield the morning of jan.2, 2008. the crack starts at the middle top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. i have owed the car for 1.5 years. the night before there was no crack. the crack seems to be internal in the glass. there are no external cracks on the glass inside and out. there was no event that led to the cracking. it just appeared. the dealership where i bought the car will not replace the glass. many people have complained of a similar crack in these cars.*cn

While driving in ohio on vacation we noticed the beginning of a line crack in the windshield. it started in the middle of the windshield at the point where the glass met the frame, exactly over the rear mirror. as we drove, it traveled downward and curved toward the driver's side. we checked and found no apparent chip from any road debri, nor had we heard anything. *tr

The windshield of my 2006 xb cracked on 12.29.07 while driving on the highway after a stone hit it. however, this is the second time i'll be replacing the windshield. the first time, last summer, there was no impact; there was an l-shaped crack behind the rearview mirror one morning. based on your own complaint database and numerous postings on www.edmunds.com, xb owners have had similar problems with windshields. *tr

I bought my 2006 scion xb brand new in december of 2006. i've only owned my car for 1 year, but i've had 4 windshield cracks/chips. the first occurred the 2nd week of having my car. a rock hit the windshield in the middle and caused a chip, i immediately had novus stop it before it turned into a bigger problem. i had no problems through the summer and lived with a chip windshield. then a couple of months ago another rock hit the edge of my windshield (where the frame of the car is behind the glass) and the crack immediately spread to being about 12 inches long. i placed a claim with my insurance company and had the windshield replaced with toyota manufactured glass about a week later. a couple of weeks ago, my windshield cracked again, with no cause or rock damage noticed. the crack grew quickly and is about 15 inches long. i called the insurance company and the people who replaced my windshield. i also did a bit of research and found out that the windshield is apparently cursed because owners everywhere are having the same problem. and now i have a second 15 inch crack on the same windshield. i'm waiting for the original toyota manufactured glass to come in (so that toyota is still responsible when i have to replace it a third time) and then i'll have it replaced. 4 cracks in less than a year... seems like there could be a serious problem with this windshield. *tr

The was being driven under routine circumstances, to work. the windshield has cracked twice (2) due to stress. and the dealer has replaced it once, will consider it a second time. the parts being used are the same but the windshield cracked a second time. *tr

I just replaced my windshield on my 2006 scion xb on 11/30/07 after 2 cracks developed after only tiny pebbles from the road hit in 2 different spots on 2 different occasions and created a cracks that spread like wildfire. this obviously made it impossible for repair because even if the glass company came within a couple hours, the crack had already spread from maybe 3-4 inches to over 12 inches! on both occasions the impact points were no more than 1 inch from the molding edge in the black area of the glass. any other time that i have had anything hit in the middle/in my line of view, it just bounces off like a piece of rubber with no damage. all in all, it has only been about 2 1/2 weeks since i paid about $250 out of my own pocket to have the thing replaced, and i already have another crack!!! same as the last couple of times... a very small pebble/rock hit about an inch from the molding in the "black area" of the glass on my way in to work this morning (12/18/07). and within my hour commute to work, it had already spread to about 3-4 inches. that was at about 8:00 this morning. it is now 10:20am, and when i went outside to look at it again at 9:30am, it had already spread to about 12 inches!!! i guess they won't be able to repair it!!! if it's longer than a dollar bill, they can't fix it according to my glass company that i usually call. this is obviously a design flaw and i would like to see toyota correct this problem. i have seen many many many complaints regarding this particular issue throughout the internet and a very considerable amount of complaints with the nhtsa/odi. this is a violation of the lemon law and have no problem giving it back to them for a full refund of all payments i have made to date since my purchase back in aug 2006 or a new vehicle under my current financing option. *tr

The windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked while the car was sitting in the driveway the temperature was about 68 degrees which was what it had been most of the week. no extreme temperatures at night. this has been a very common problem on this model and is a safety issue for which a recall should be issued. *tr

Windshield cracks without any cause! it's from the middle bottom and it's over 10 inches long. *tr

I have had my xb for over a year, and the only problem i have is the windsheild. i have two cracks that started out of nowhere. i don't know what to do to prevent them from cracking. *tr

I was referred to this site by another website, myscioinsucks.com, and i am so glad i was! i have been waiting for my dealership to do something about this and have not been in real pursuit of any justice until recently. i have a cracked windshield on my scion 2006 xb. i really wanted justice when i almost got into another scion exactly like mine the other day with the same crack in it's windshield. i have now been waiting for almost a year on something to be said by them about a recall when i go to get my oil changed. not one breath of anything yet. i am a very passive person, sometimes too passive but not anymore with this issue. i got the crack in my windshield in the end of november of 2007. i am financially strapped, or check to check as most say and could not afford to get it fixed and didn't see a need to if it wasn't my fault. as i said, why spend my money when toyota wont admit to anything. i woke up to find this crack in my windshield on a very mild temp. day of about 70 i believe. neither hot nor cold. i remember vividly. i got in my car to go to work and noticed this l-shaped crack starting from the passenger side curving down and going toward the driver's side. i drove about 2 weeks later after having the car looked at in toyota dealership, on a 5 hours trip and another crack started appearing from the bottom midline.... and progressed upward and left toward the driver side, and by the end of the trip it was over a foot in length. appearing to be stress from an 80 mph speed majority of the trip. i have asked toyota about it many times and never once was it their fault. i just recently go online after seeing my 5th 2006 xb cracked windshield identical to mine. i am wanting it fixed and nothing more and cannot get any answers. *tr

In mid-november 2007 i got a spontaneous crack in my windshield while running at approximately 70 mph on i-94 in western michigan. this crack runs from under the rubber near the rear view mirror, then down and to the right. it showed up as a 5 inch crack. it is now 15 inches long. three days later a small rock hit the windshield in the lower right part of the windshield. within a few hours, the small crack became a multifaceted spiderweb of cracks. over time, some of the cracks grow when the car is just sitting there. *tr
