While driving down highway, check engine light and electronic throttle control service light displayed. exited highway, drove 1-2 miles more and engine was smoking with smoke entering the cabin. exited the truck at a safe location. used hood release in cabin but did not open hood because i saw flames through grille. used fire extinguisher but it just slowed the fire did not put it out. fire consumed the engine and hood. the fire department came and put out fire. * (recall related incident) ts
When the engine is cold, acceleration from a stop is almost non existent for roughly 3-4 seconds. pulling out in to normal traffic is dangerous as the vehicle does not perform anywhere near the way it does once warmed up. my servicing dealer and chrysler corporate told me that there is a issue with excessive emissions from my 2017 ram 1500 ecodiesel when cold which required them to inhibit fuel flow to the engine until the engine reached a temperature of 157 degrees. this is a serious safety concern as the truck seems to ignore the drivers desire to accelerate. i've come close to being rear-ended on more than one occasion because the truck would not accelerate at more than what seems to be an idol for several seconds. i've owned this truck for about 1.5 years and still there is no solution to correct this problem. it is my hope that federal action will spur a solution to this problem.

I have a 2017 ram 1500 ecodiesel. i was driving down the highway at 70mph when the vehicle suddenly starting making a crazy noise then begin to loose power, i steered the truck onto the shoulder where immediately white smoke starting bellowing from underneath the front and sides of the engine compartment i opened the hood but no flames were visible and it eventually went out. i had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer and three weeks later they now tell me that the problem is the egr cooler leaking which apparently is a known and dangerous problem.
Egr has a problem. which may cause a fire and mopar doesn't have a fix for it . they don't know when they will. i want to trade it for a gas powered instead of the diesel and they will not take it on trade. if they would they won't give me any where close to what the pickup would be valued. it seems that the problem is their problem and they should not penalize their own customers. it is really not safe to drive it if it has the symptoms it has as to fire. it is a on going problem as they didn't tell me when i purchased the vehicle. sounds like boeing???
My truck has a manufacturing date of 11/17 and only has 37k miles on the truck. randomly my truck went into a "limp mode" and a check engine light for electronic throttle control service light came on. i was driving down university drive in huntsville, al at roughly 45mph accelerating up a small incline. the 'limp mode' is extremely unsafe and restricts the ability to accelerate or drive at a normal pace. had this happened on the highway or pulling out (what would normally be safe) into traffic and my ability to accelerate was effected it could have caused serious safety concerns. i take my 13-week old daughter to and from daycare in this truck and it has become unsafe. when taken to the dealer, they originally notated that it was just a software update. i late get a call that the egr cooler had gone out, but would not be covered under warranty. the service advisor told me they had 6 other ecodiesel vehicles in for the same issue in the last week. i called the dealer i bought it from and they had one in the shop in for the same exact problem. i then started doing research and found that the egr cooler is a huge issue for these trucks and fca refuses to address it. i called the fca and they eventually agreed to replace the truck on 'good will' after i paid a deductible. fca needs to put a recall on these vehicles and fix the egr issues. now there are reports that the valves are sticking and causing the egr to cause a fire. purchasing dealer: university cdjr in rome, ga servicing dealer: landers mclarty cdjr in huntsville, al
Truck still under warenty has less than 13,000 miles. 7 different times car won't start. have had to get it towed to dealership 3-4 times. each time it's repaired a different electrical computer code is stated as the problem. this has happened in parking lots, our driveway and at a light (car would not go)! very dangerous . started to happen 3 months after we bought the truck. happens every 30-60 days.
Fuel sensor has failed at 42000 miles while in motion. lifters have made bad noise since new, dealership has replace lifters but noise is still there intermittently while sitting still on start up
Noticed at 40k miles there is issue with tie rod ends joints become loose may cause accident reported this to a dealership they trying to brush me off bs that there is issue with rockers and lifters in the engine and exhaust manifold studs are snapping causing exhaust to leak and become louder that's a emission issue also
Multiple episodes of vehicle codes disabling truck, all related to 'service electronic throttle control' message. this has caused loss off power with vehicle stalling on mountain highway, major safety issue. other times vehicle has scary delay in throttle response causing nerve wracking moments trying to merge or operate vehicle safely. vehicle purchased new, problems began with only 1500 miles on vehicle. four times to dealer for service hasn't resolved issue.
After ecm reflash, now the vehicle will not accelerate for 3 seconds with engine cold. no power until delay time has passed then itll accel. once engine is at operating temp it drives normally. this only started since the latest ecm and tcm reflashes were performed.

At approximately 6100 miles noted engine ticking noise only on cold start up. took to dealer for repair and they found a number of broken exhaust manifold bolts (they replaced 9 of them). according to dodge forums and the dodge dealership this apparently is a common problem with ram semi engines.
Sluggish turbo, then flashes throttle cable, engine light, lightning bolt light came on, them total loss of speed and power. the sluggish turbo has been an issue and this all happened while leaving out church parking lot heading home. it is at seth wadleys in pauls valley, ok as i type this awaiting if my extended warranty will pay for this! was told this was is a issue with the eco diesels and a recall was just sent out for models up to '16. leaving my '17 with the same issue out!
Vehicle will start and rev up high and then immediately shutdown or will be driving and vehicle will shut down and lock everything up causing vehicle to slide. the vehicle was sent back to dealership to have the problem fixed but is still doing the same thing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked, there was a knocking noise coming from the front passenger side of the motor. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was later taken to susquehanna chrysler dodge jeep ram (located at 950 hellam st, wrightsville, pa 17368, (717) 401-4005) where it was diagnosed that the lifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,650.
Timing cover oil leak. timing cover leaked oil even after multi attempts to correct problem. their solution is to put more rtv on the timing cover and reassemble. does not fix problem.
The lifters in my 3.6 liter ram 1500 are bad at 80000 miles. this is the same problem reported with this engine in 2011-2013 dodge vehicles. dodge knows this is still a problem because they lowered the powertrain warranty from 100000 miles to 60000 miles. they have not fixed the issues with the 3.6 liter engine. they need to be investigated and made to make appropriate repairs.
Engine noise when starting after sitting overnight
This involves a 2017 ram ecodiesel with 15,500 miles. the eco diesel started to make a rattling sound as i was driving straight at interstate speed and then a loud bang. i lost all power to the truck as the engine cut off while i was on the highway. it was a very dangerous situation as i was in the middle lane and had to get over to the side with out power and brakes. the dealership has stated it was a cam issue and that they would need to take the cab off the truck to diagnose the engine. all i can say is the truck only has 15,500 miles on it and this was a serious safety issue for myself and my family that was on board. i did some research on line and there seems to be numerous examples of early engine failure in both grand cherokees and ram trucks. ram is still at the dealership being evaluated. *tt *tr consumer stated he replaced the entire engine and was without the vehicle for 34 days, updated 10/11/18*jb *dt*jb
Truck with 3.0l diesel engine. vehicle has twice (during first 6,000 miles) shown error message "service electronic throttle control" and truck has been disabled. first time was driving on mountain highway with heavy commute traffic when truck could not maintain any speed and struggled get truck safely off road. with multiple occurences with brand new vehicle it is a safety issue.
In motion, the engine seams to loose power when the transmission kicks down to passing gear for a short time then it picks up power. feels almost like it takes time for the timing to catch up...... can you help? it also does it on take off as well
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ram 1500. the contact stated that on multiple occasions while driving the vehicle would suddenly shut off without warning. the vehicle could be restarted after removing the ignition key and re-inserting it. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer thompson dodge (2158 washington rd. thomson, ga) who was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was also notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Concern #1: intermittently, upon initial start up, the engine makes a loud clattering noise as if it has no oil in it. the dealership was able to duplicate the concern once but it is not bad enough to repair. concern #2: while coming to a slow rolling stop (as if coming to a known stop sign) there is a hard bang/clunk just before getting to a complete stop, it feels like you are being hit in the rear by another car. as you slowly accelerate it bangs/clunks again hard. the bang can be felt and heard, and only happens on slow stops, not when you have to stop quickly. the vehicle is currently at the dealership for the third time regarding this same concern. the dealership reprogrammed the transmission and a transmission valve body was replaced but it has not fixed the concern. this bang is so bad that it is hard that i fear driving it in stop and go traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate past 30 mph. tri-lives motors (180 state hwy f, branson, mo 65616, (417) 334-7543) diagnosed the vehicle and found code numbers: p0299 (supercharger underboost) and p2459 (diesel particulate filter regeneration frequency). the codes were reset and the master air flow was replaced. the contact was informed to drive the vehicle. after driving 100 miles, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact called the same dealer and was informed to drive the vehicle and take it to a nearby dealer if it lost power. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer for diagnostic testing and the same codes appeared. the technician reset the code and informed the contact that there was no remedy. the vehicle was taken to corwin dodge of springfield (located at 1025 w sunshine st, springfield, mo 65807, (417) 862-9272) for a buyback. a master air sensor was replaced, but the vehicle was still not repaired and remained at the dealer. the contact stated that the failure recurred every month since the vehicle was purchased. the vehicle was taken to several unknown dealers in different states where the codes were reset; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 58629945. the approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

Had been experiencing transmission warning lights but engine didn't produce any codes.i took to 2 different dealers and they said nothing we could do about sensor problems until code appears. while driving at night about a half mile from home my truck shut down. my engine turned off and lost my steering, lights, and dash lights. the only thing that remained on was the fully illuminated 8' radio command center and gear select knob.the satellite radio remained playing but couldn't adjust volume. i luckily pulled to side of road. i couldn't restart vehicle to move it. i then took my key fob and locked and opened the truck.the lights flashed and was able to restart vehicle to move. i immediately called roadside assistance to have it towed to dealer. during the time of turning vehicle back on the dash displayed a check engine light. i then received a vehicle identification report emailed to me that engine/transmission service needed. this incident with a new truck with 23,000 miles is very concerning in losing power, lights and steering. the problems stated were over a month ago as noted with pictures
Exhaust odor leaking into the cab when idling at a stationary position. this happens every time when the vehicle is parked and running.
When the vehicle is cold the engine has a significant power lag and 'dead pedal' when you accelerate from a stop. it creates a significant risk as there is no power to accelerate and avoid oncoming cars or dangerous situations. oven when pedal is all the way depressed the vehicle fails to accelerate.
Took delivery of new 2017 dodge ram 1500 and two days later towed my boat (18') to launch to go fishing. stopped on ramp leading to water with engine running and put in park to unhook boat from trailer. when i let me foot off brake, the vehicle started slowly creeping backwards to the water. i was stunned and hit brake again and then applied emergency brake. i have done this at least a hundred times with other vehicles and never has one not held in place on the ramp and i have never used my emergency brake. upon completion of unhooking boat, i then could not figure out how to release emergency brake as it is not marked well. got out of vehicle and noticed a symbol on the plastic above the foot pedal. lifted up and it released the emergency brake and again vehicle started backing up into the water. i had to immediately jump in the truck and hit the brakes just in time as it hit the water. i have reviewed this issue and it appears to be focused on 2013 - 2016 model years. however, this is a brand new 2017. i can attest that the knob was 100% in the park position when this happened and my father and son witnessed this event. i have an appointment tomorrow at dealership but service manager was not aware of any issues or potential fix. i am guessing we could duplicate the problem on the boat ramp in the future. this is incredibly dangerous and i cannot have a vehicle that cannot stay in place while parked!
Dissapointed with the purchase of 17 ram 1500, truck looks good and has great looks . it has a tapping/ticking noise when its at idle at a standstill, its called the dreaded hemi tick, i have a 5.7 motor with mds, there is many threads and complaints about this on the internet. my truck only has 500 miles and should not have any kind of tapping/ticking noises coming from the engine, mostly noticed from drivers side from the wheel well . the dealer says its normal and that they cant hear it when i bring it in, i should drive and wait for first service to have checked out .second issue is that the pressure flaps in the rear of the cab are always making noise when driving, you can hear them flapping when you brake or when you take off . i want my money back .
