While driving home, i noticed some noise that ounde like a turbo noise and loos of power. i pulled over immediately shut off engine and poped hood. looke up and smoke from engine. opened hood and saw small fire on rear passenger side of engine by turbo housing. soon the truck was totally engulfed by flames.
I took my truck into a dealer because the exhaust system wouldn't clean itself. i found out there were recalls pertaining to this and they were handled as far as i knew. however, just a few weeks later as i was pulling into my driveway at home i noticed smoke barreling out from under the hood. i imediately tried to shut it off and when i did it would rev up higher instead of shutting off. i got it to shut off finally and left it sitting there overnight until i could get a tow truck to take it back to the dealership, where i was informed that this problem is now so common that the part is on back order and no idea of when they will be able to get it. now its 3 weeks later and i still haven't gotten my truck back.
In order to register my vehicle in california i was forced to accept the v08 emissions recall. after this recall, i have noticed substantial lag between depressing the accelerator and between when the vehicle accelerates. i was told there would be no change in performance by both the dealer and fca. i have almost been in two accidents now because i attempted to execute a left turn and even though i was depressing the accelerator, the vehicle sluggishly rolled through the intersection and then 2-3 seconds later, accelerated rapidly making it difficult to maintain lane integrity while navigating the turn. i generally drive fairly modestly which is why there have been only two life-threatening incidents in the past 3 or so months that i have had the "update". realistically though, this forced update has changed the nature of the truck and made it ultimately more dangerous to drive. all of this behavior began after the noted recall. i spoke with the dealership where the recall was performed, and was told that they have received this complaint from other drivers as well, and that while ram was aware of the problem, they had no remedy at this time. the date mentioned in the report is simply of the most recent of incidents that i mentioned.
Clicking/tapping noise coming from engine at cold starts. noise goes away when engine warms up. took truck to dealer and problem was diagnosed as broken exhaust manifold bolts. service manage said this was on going problem with 5.7 hemi engines since 2009. i had to pay for repair even though this was obviously a manufacturer error in design. cost was $684 to replace bolts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v757000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact took the vehicle to burns motors (1300 e business hwy 83, mcallen, tx 78501, (956) 984-4400), but the part was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer also stated that the part was not available and did not assist. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
After complying with the v08 (aem) software update due to the ram ecodiesel emissions update my driving experience/performance has changed dramatically. during acceleration their has been anywhere from 3-6 delay seconds before adequate power and speed can be felt. this is at a full stop such as a stop sin or red traffic light. during highway traffic (passing) or merging into a lane is were is most noticeable. this failure occurs even when engine is properly at operating temperature and is worse right after start up. since multiple people use their trucks for towing purposes, this greatly increases the effect and even further decreases the performance that is relied upon. the aem software update specifically states "the aem is not expected to change any of your key vehicle attributes, such as average fuel economy, reliability, durability, vehicle performance, drivability, engine noise or vibration, or other driving characteristics." this directly contradicts the class action lawsuit remedy requirements. due to the failed instant acceleration as well as taking up to 3500 rpm before forward movement can be established in some instances has led me to formally create and record a safety concern that requires immediate attention. failure to do so puts owners of 2014-2016 ram 1500's that are affected by the aem update at risk, not only to ourselves but to the other drivers around us. before this update was conducted there were no engine/transmission/propulsion related issues whatsoever. lastly as another effect but less important is the obvious decrease in and loss in mpg. please hold fca accountable and have them address this issue before lives are fatally affected.

It was just recently brought to my attention that there was a technical service bulletins sent out for the 3.0 ecodiesel to change the type/specification of oil and to go against what the owners manual states because the manual is wrong. it calls for an oil that is to light breaks down molecular weight too quickly and trucks and jeeps alike equiped with the ecodiesel have been having catastrophic engine failure due to premature engine wear on internal components. it is recommended to put 5w40 in instead. this is first and foremost true i did research and confirmed that the change was made but never made public to the owners like the current class action lawsuits was. many owners don't know this change exsisted and many owners don't know that the dealerships are still making this error and continuing to fill the trucks with 5w30 for owners that come in for service. if it's to save money by not throwing away already purchased merchandise or ignorance i don't know. but this is huge because now even if owners change now they still have potential and highly probable permanent internal damage done to their engine taking a drastic amount out of the possible longevity of the engine away, and the new oil required reduces fuel economy furthering the financial burden of the owner that bought the vehicle with a different fuel economy advertised and with the knowledge that their vehicle may never last as long as they're hope because of the failure of the fca to identify this and make it public. not to mention the dealerships are aware of this problem because articles claim mechanics have been coming forward saying dealerships are draining all 5w30 on unsold vehicles and replacing it with 5w40. yet they refuse to make this a class action lawsuits to the public so we can know. we deserve the compensation for the costs that may come about because of this!!!

2 major issues: a- since vehicle got computer system updated for the emissions lawsuit - vehicle has lost 70% power at take off. meaning, i currently have a very high risk of getting t-boned at intersections because the vehicle doesn't take off. i currently have a claim open with chrysler but their case manager claims that parts to fix the issue is currently not available. this emission update was done back in june 2019. b- vehicle started to overheat and create very high coolant smell inside the cabin. this happened when the vehicle was in motion driven at approximately 45mph, if the vehicle sits idling you can't tell the problem, only when driven. i had vehicle towed to dealership and admitted on 10/31/2019. after 63 days at the dealer and so much back and forth with chrysler case managers and supervisors "this people is extremely useless and should not be assigned to handle cases sensitive like this one!" on 01/03/2020 "63 days after check in date" the truck was release from the dealer with absolutely no repairs made. the vehicle that is currently overheating with very high risk of getting caught on fire has been released to me so i can take my kids to schools and and my life and other at danger. this is terrifying! makes me think that chrysler wants to deal with much more costly issues when the worst happens!

Ecodiesel model pickup while towing our 4,000 lb travel trailer at 50 mph on a state highway, 90 miles into a camping/fishing trip, suddenly displayed symbol and message alerts on the dash and at the same time lost engine power. i was able to keep enough speed to pull onto a dirt side road within the next couple hundred yards, then coasted to a stop. during the last 20 yards, the engine died completely so i had no power steering. at full stop there was a strong chemical smell in the cab and grey smoke coming from the hood. when i opened the driver door, grey smoke was billowing from the left front wheel well. when i opened the hood, there was a fire in the engine compartment. flames were shooting up from behind the engine, the insulation on the underside of the hood was burning and flakes of burning insulation were floating around in the engine compartment. i was able to put out the fire with an extinguisher before the entire truck and trailer and the surrounding forest caught on fire. just as the flames died out, the coolant reservoir on top of the engine burst and boiling coolant sprayed out creating a bunch of steam and more bad chemical smell. i arranged for the truck to be towed to our hometown dealer. truck was stock and dealer maintained. i am waiting to hear from the dealer and their ram investigator on what caused the fire and how this matter will be handled.

2016 ecodiesel has a malfunctioning egr cooler and leaks coolant into the exhaust system thus causing several issues: cel code p20ee, loss of coolant at a rate of 2 gallons per week, dpf issue & def injector issues. ram customer care says i should just drive it and "monitor" the coolant level and i get to pay for that at 20.00 a gallon at two gallons per week until january 2020 or later. with the possibility that the engine will get on fire.. there is a fix, so ram says but no parts and we are to drive a vehicle with major issue for months? appears ram doesn't care about customer safety only their money. greedy, greedy...
After the mandatory aem update the truck lost acceleration power and mpg went way down. i was told the trucks performance would stay exactly the same. in reality the truck turned into a slug. also received a recall about possible fires due to egr cooler leaking coolant. fca told me until a there's a fix to carry a jug of coolant and continue to refill as needed. i think that's ridiculous, the truck is 4 years old.

Vehicle taken in on 8-12-19 to dealership to check out driveability concerns after "approved emisson modification" they had it to apply update from 5-17-19 to 6-12-19, concerns on 8-12-19 were acceleration, also to check egr system as i was losing coolant they had my vehicle from 8-12-19/9-13-19 when they called me telling me i needed to return the rental car and pick my vehicle as they couldn't do anything for the acceleration i would have to wait for an update to be released. they didn't check the egr system only topped it off with coolant and told me to watch it. all was fine until 9-16-19 when i was on my way to work, about 7 miles from work the check engine light came on i continued on about a mile from my work location the service throttle control light illuminated i lost the ability to accelerate and about 1/4-1/2 mile away from the work location the low oil pressure light illuminated and vehicle died. i finished coasting into the driveway and parked went inside to get work related paperwork i needed and came back outside and see smoke coming from under the hood. i open the hood to see what was going on and there was smoke/fire on the left side of engine bay when staring in (intake, egr area) at that point i got in to the vehicle to put it in neutral via disengagement lever to roll vehicle away from the house i got it away from the house and got out and away and called fire department to come extinguish the fire as it was engulfed in flames at that point. resulting in a total loss of the vehicle. now afterwards there is now a recall for the egr cooler that "may fatigue and cause vehicle fire" chrysler has been contacted and aren't willing to do anything they sent out bosch automotive engineering people to inspect the vehicle it was stated there was no vehicle manufacturing defect. a buyback claim has been started but i have not heard anything to this point.
I own a 2016 ecodiesel ram 1500, and ever since i completed the required engine software update mandated by fca due to the class action lawsuit, i have noticed a significant delay in acceleration during conditions where the engine is not fully warmed up and sometime at normal conditions when the vehicle is pulling from a stop through an intersection. these delays can be as long as 3 to 5 seconds!! this posses a huge risk to the drive, his occupants, and other drivers as well. the eco diesel community was promised that this software update would not impede fuel economy, engine performance, engine noise, and many other things as well. yet here we are my self and many others having to think twice every time we pull through an intersection, or a drive way, or turn on a curved road where the oncoming traffic is impossible to see, hoping that this is not the time we are impaled by on coming traffic due to the lack of engine performance of our own vehicle. this is an issue fca needs to get out in front of before human life is lost. its not a matter of if but a matter of when, this issue needs to be addressed and its needs to be done quickly!!
I own a 2016 ecodiesel ram 1500, and ever since i completed the required software update on my vehicle due to the class action lawsuit i have noticed a drastic decrease in the amount of acceleration my vehicle has under conditions where the vehicle is not fully warmed up and occasionally under normal driving conditions as well. there are times the vehicle will take 3 to 5 entire seconds to finally start accelerating and when trying to merge into heavy traffic or at intersections this is extremely dangerous! i need to be able to trust the my vehicle will respond in the manner i need it to while traveling highway and local. i become a hazard to other drives as well as to myself and my occupants. the ecodiesel owners community was promised that this software update would not impede fuel economy, engine performance, engine noise, and many other things, yet myself and what appears to be many others are suffering from what can only be classified as a ticking time bomb. when one or multiple lives are lost, will it then be a large enough issue to correct? i cant fear every single intersection and curved road i come across because i am afraid that my engine will respond sluggish and delayed. this is an issue that fca needs to address and quickly!
After recall for the diesel engine emissions class action lawsuit, the truck is very sluggish when cold, sometimes takings 3-5 seconds to respond to throttle input. fuel economy reduced. truck feels lazy until it warms up completely. even then, it isn't as responsive as it was before the software flash.
Vehicle was in a settlement regarding the ecodiesel engine. to get claim processed a software change was required. after getting the software change at the dealership, the truck now has an extreme acceleration delay especially right after starting. you can press on the gas pedal and nothing really happens, then you have to floor it to get it to move. it is very dangerous at the intersection coming out of my neighborhood. on this past wednesday morning i had to run off the road in order to avoid an accident as my truck rolled onto the highway and then would not get going. i tried to pull over and then it finally hit and put me in a ditch as i was getting out of the way of a car about to hit me. the people i've talked to at the settlement agency for fiat chrysler have acknowledged to me that many have complained. if it isn't fixed someone is going to be seriously injured (if they haven't already been)
When starting engine in the morning or in cold weather (65'f and colder) the engine is unresponsive to the throttle for up to 6 seconds. this is extremely dangerous and makes for a serious safety deficiency for the driver and passengers and the public. on coming traffic has had to slam on breaks to avoid collisions as i have had to pull out in traffic. the throttle is smashed to the floor and a minimum of 3 seconds goes by before the truck has any response when the engine is cold. this has happened in chicago, pulling into traffic, merging into lo a highway, and when going over train tracks when the gates were coming down, and when stopped in traffic at a green light which had an emergency vehicle coming into and through the light from the other direction (i couldn't move for 3 seconds).
Exhaust manifold bolts broken. my truck has roughly 46,000 miles on it and yesterday upon cold start up i heard an exhaust leak coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. upon further inspection i noticed at least one exhaust manifold bolt head broken off, there may be more as i didn't investigate any further. this should not be happening on a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles
Extreme lag on acceleration from a dead stop. extreme lag on freeway while trying to pass or merge. post the aem emissions recall.
I purchased a new 2106 ram 1500 ecodiesel in 2016 from a dealer. there was an emissions recall for which i took to the dealer and had done according to the manufacturer. since the recall was completed i have had a serious lag in acceleration. there is now a 3 to 4 second delay at 3/4 throttle before the truck takes off in a lurch. i asked the dealer how this can be fixed to accelerate as before the recall and they said there was nothing they could and that they would not undo the computer changes. i live off a busy street and trying to flow into traffic is a real challenge and a safety hazard. i'm afraid to lend my truck to family and friends because of the safety hazard and wanted to make sure a complaint has been filed.
This 2016 3.0l eco diesel is a death trap after fca reprogramed the software 2 months ago. 2-4 second hesitation when you press on the gas. the truck just sits there and does not move. in two months i have had 3 close calls pulling into traffic. extremely scary when you hit the gas and nothing happens and a car is coming down the highway at you at 55 mph and you're seconds from getting t-boned. it's just a matter of time before people start dying in this death trap. the diesel had many problems before they reprogramed it. since new the truck has gone into limp mode 4 times where the engine lights come on and the motor shuts down to about 10 mpg. last time i almost got killed on the freeway when this happened. you're stuck on the highway going 5-10 mph trying to get off the highway when cars are flying past you at 70 mph. these 3.0l dodge eco diesels are very, very, very dangerous to drive. after the reprograming from fca they have a very dangerous turbo lag time. fca has done nothing to address the problem. the reprograming of the software made them worse and more dangerous. because of the way they designed this eco diesel, it is prone to catch fire. on my truck i had a fire under the hood and a hole melted through the intake manifold. luckily, the truck did not burst into flames but it was in the dealership for almost 3 weeks being repaired. this truck is very dangerous and the truck needs to be recalled and if fca can't fix them, they need to buy them back and get these death traps off the road. sorry, i can't describe just a single specific instance, it's dangerous every time you get behind the wheel. i would like to meet with the president of fca and have him take my truck for a drive with his family in it and then give his opinion as to the quality of this engine. i do not allow my wife to drive this truck as it's a death trap.
V08 recall flash has made my truck more dangerous to drive. there is an extreme amount of lag from the engine and turbo while trying to accelerate. i am the second owner, bought on 7/24/19 and the truck has been in the shop twice already!
Eco diesel engine was reprogrammed by ram for an emissions recall. engine does not operate like it did before the software update. when cold, there is a noticeable acceleration lag. this presents a danger when pulling into any type of traffic. the lag will disappear once the truck has been driven a bit and the engine warms up. mileage has also been diminished noticeably since the software update. i would think that the intended emission reduction that was targeted by this update has been offset by an increased burning of fuel. i'm disappointed. would love to have my truck back operating as before the emissions update.
Driving home from work 22 august 2019, an 8 mile drive. i went to accelerate to reach posted speed limit after turning off of a side street onto main road. i had no forward momentum when i depressed the accelerator pedal. i attempted several times to manually shift gears thinking it was a transmission issue. the engine would rev up to rpm but still barely any forward momentum. i was losing speed quickly. something grabbed my attention, not sure if i heard something out of the ordinary but i happened to look out my review and side mirrors and notice a huge plume of smoke exiting my vehicle. at about that same moment, i noticed a low oil pressure light from the instrument cluster. i immediately pulled into a driveway and shut the vehicle off. once the vehicle was off, i still noticed a large amount of white smoke billowing from under the hood and front wheel wells. at first i thought it to be a coolant hose rupture due to the color of the smoke/steam. i immediately jumped out and opened the hood thinking it was a coolant issue. right away i noticed a flame at the rear of the engine. i had no access to water where i was located and my only option was to blow it out. it worked for me but probably only because i had got to the fire before it was able to spread too quick. fire/rescue was dispatched, removed engine cover and noticed smoldering plastic/wire harness and doused with 4-5 cups of water until all traces of fire were gone. tow truck delivered vehicle to dealership approx 10 miles from where vehicle was disabled. *dt *tr
First time parked with vehicle turned off and went in post office got back in truck. ignition would not turn on made a funny sound and low oil pressure came up then light came on, waited 10 minutes and started up fine. around 2 weeks later did it while driving, had cruise set at 75, in the left lane passing 2 vehicles and engine shut off it flashed low oil pressure, i coasted to right hand side of the highway made calls and waited 15 minutes and it restarted. scheduled and made appointment with ram dealership, after checking computer and changing oil and filter found nothing. dealership said should have left error on computer. picture was taken of proof of oil light after being shut down on the highway.took to dealership on 9/3/2019 with 40,727 miles on ram 1500 eco-diesel truck dates are 8/20 and 8/25/2019 when this occurred.
The exhaust manifold bolts break off the head of the bolt on the rear cylinder on each side causing an exhaust leak between the engine and the manifold on the 5.7l hemi. the dealership said its a known issue with those motors but there is no recall.
After the aem recall on my ecodiesel the acceleration is very sluggish especially when cold. it is enough of a problem/ change from the original performance that pulling out in traffic has become dangerous. the truck has a 3-5 second delay before adequate power is available regardless of accelerator position.
Dangerous lag in throttle response in emergency situations.. delay in throttle response is greater than 4 seconds in all attemps at acceleration.
Since an emissions recall my truck has had a dangerous amount of dead pedal lag when. first starting to drive. the first 5-10 minutes of every drive create a dangerous situation where i am consistently worried about causing an accident because my truck does not operate like a normal vehicle, or as it did before the recall happened.
After fca completed the emissions recall on my 2016 ram the truck now does not want to accelerate into traffic. this is caused several issues when trying to merge into traffic or onto the interstate. also while pulling a trailer i was not able to accelerate properly into traffic or to the highway. due to this while pulling out in traffic i have barely avoided several wrecks.
After having the emissions recall applied to my truck, i have lost acceleration from a stopped position. the throttle lag is dangerous and unpredictable. this makes turning through traffic very unsafe.
I own a 2016 ram 1500 eco diesel. i recently got a recall (v08 i believe) that greatly effected the throttle response and fuel mileage on my truck. i love on a bend on a state highway and it has become very dangerous for me to pull out of my driveway. when i press the throttle there is a good 5 second delay before the truck accelerates. this is a known problem as fca has notified dealers that they are aware of the issue. i know this because i took my truck back to the dealer to address these issues and that is the response they gave me. when i purchased this truck there were no acceleration issues and the fuel mileage was 4-5mpg greater before this computer update. please facilitate a fix for this before i get hit leaving my house or turning onto any street.
After an emissions recall was performed on eco diesel engine (ecm update) the engine has become terribly sluggish on initial takeoff. i can push the gas petal to the floor and nothing happens for several seconds. i feel that this is a safety concern because there is inconsistent engine performance that could cause an accident.
Own a 2016 ram 1500 ecodiesel truck and participated in the v08 emissions recall, since the recall has been preformed the truck suffers from serious throttle lag which i feel is a major safety concern as the truck has unreliable response when trying to cross an intersection.
Another ram ecodiesel post-aem safety concern. did the aem recall and instantly became a safety hazard in traffic. extreme throttle lag of 4+ seconds, even if flooring it. too many close calls to list myself and i don't let me wife drive unless absolutely necessary (it was supposed to be her truck!!). recall may be monetary and such but the issue is a safety problem and will result in much larger issues. i've worked as a risk management safety officer; this will lead to a bigger problem. epa or not, this "aem fix" is wrong! please please please get involved and force a recall to fix the lack of throttle response on these vehicles. for what its worth, i found out that i am not eligible for any of the claim $$ because my truck was built in canada. god bless the american ram badge, huh!
After having the approved emissions modification installed my truck became dangerously sluggish from a dead stop. after pressing accelerator pedal pulling into traffic truck is moving approx. 4 mph where there is a 3 to 4 second delay in acceleration leaving me vulnerable to oncoming traffic. truck was fine before aem. dealer now says they can not reverse aem. truck is now a serious traffic hazard.
After software update for emissions issue truck fails to accelerate in a safe manner when engine is cold. when accelerator pedal is pressed it takes up 5 seconds for engine rpm to increase to the point that the turbo charger will cut in. this cause the truck to enter an intersection with out enough speed to safely complete the transition though the intersection if traffic is coming. when engin is hot this does not occur. i had 2 near misses before i realized what was occurring. i returned truck to dealer for service and was informed this was normal after the software update and other trucks had the same issue. informed them this presented a unsafe condition.
Very poor acceleration when cold or warm. significant drop in power and fuel mileage. all of these things happened after the v08 update
I had the aem (approved emissions modification) done on my 2016 ram 1500 3.0 ecodiesel on 07/02/2019. when i picked up the truck i asked if there were any issues with anyone that has had this performed. i was told by the tech he has not aware of any issues with this being done and the only thing he has heard is an improvement of mpg. well i have had the truck for 2 days now and i've noticed a decrease of almost 2 mpg which i kind of expected unlike his claim of improved mpg. my complaint is that now when taking off from a stop it takes almost 7 seconds for throttle response. this is a major safety issue in my opinion! i have been driving this truck for almost 3 years now and have never had single problem. i understand the whole turbo diesel has a little bit of lag time for the turbo to spool up but now it takes almost 7 seconds to get response of throttle!! i have almost been hit 3 times now when taking off from a stop. this in my opinion is unacceptable!!! like i said before i understand there is lag in a turbo diesel but 7 seconds! when you push the accelerator and the vehicle doesnt respond that is a huge safety concern to me. i wish i had never had this performed now because i have been thoroughly impressed with this vehicle in every aspect until now. i feel that owners should be at least given some type of heads up to this situation because before long this is going to start causing people to wreck. when you drive a vehicle you get used to the way it drives. this has completely changed how this truck responds and not in a good way. its like a whole different vehicle now. i am very concerned about this!
