After putting truck into reverse then putting in back into forward gear the truck will not recognize the fact it is suppose to go forward. not in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. this has happened to us twice. i have found out you have to actually turn the truck off and then restart. first time i had to do this a couple of times this last time it then went into forward drive with the 4 wheel drive setting. the first time was in a parking lot. the second time i was on a road in front of our home. i had stopped to check the mail and had to back up in order to go into our driveway. after backing up it would not go forward.
8 speed transmission knob stuck in park when shifted in drive with the d blinking. the vehicle was stopped at gas station. with engine off. when started, i attempted to drive off, moved a couple of feet and went into park, then it wouldn't move while in drive, the d was blinking. this anomaly has occurred 3 differnet times
When is raining park or driving passenger brake tail light indicate out, mirror won't close, driver side window won't work, dash board lights will be flashing on/off and buck up camera has a black/ color line screen, front differential has a crack on it.
Back in the end of august/beginning of september 2016 i took my 2016 ram 1500 in for shifting problems with the transmission. after 2 weeks of waiting they replaced the valve assembly part on the transmission. after 3 days i noticed i could not get out of 1st gear. i called the dealership in easley sc and was told to bring it so they can troubleshoot the problem again. on 9/17/2016 it was determined to have a bad transmission and i was told that ram was replacing with a brand new transmission, however there was not an eta for delivery. i was told that the local rep would follow up on the status and no one has ever heard back from him either. i have been in touch with the corporate customer service case managers and they can not even get an eta for the part. the truck also needs (2) recalls corrected as well. ii asked about a loaner and was told until they have an eta on the part they could not provide a loaner. so i am not forced to drive a truck with a bad transmission. also i want to mention that the truck is being repaired under the original manufacture's warranty. my extended mopar warranty has not even kicked in yet. so basically i have a truck that the company can not get a major part under the warranty. i can barely get out of 1st gear and when it does i suffer a very hard jolt which is very dangerous. i can only hope that ram is held accountable for this.
I have a 2016 ram 1500 slt quad cab. 5.7 liter hemi automatic transmission rotors dial shifter. on several occasions when put in park vehicle was still in reverse. have mentioned it to the dealership the last 2 oil changes. they just ignored it. yesterday 9/3/2018 went out to move the truck. put it in drive, selector showed drive and truck went in reverse when i gave it gas. this caused me to hit my sprinter van doing damage to both vehicles. now i'm leery of driving it. it took several tries to get it to go into drive. please help. after googling this i saw that there is a recall. called chrysler and was told my truck is not in the recall.
My wife, dog and i pulled into a parking lot of a countertop supply store. it was approximately 80 degrease outside so i rolled down the windows to half and left the truck running in park to keep the a/c on for the dog. in this parking lot we were the only vehicle parked near by and there was no parking block in front of the truck. we were in the store approximately 20 min looking for a countertop then went to sit down with the sales specialist. about 5 min into that conversation the secretary in the front yelled "your truck is driving off". i immediately ran out the door to find my truck about 25 yards away and across the main road. the road did not have curbs but did have steep culverts on both sides (note: i would not think a truck at idle would make it up to the road) the truck "took off" per 3 workers that were near by in the lot moving a large slab of granite, and a simi driver was driving on the road stating that both my ram and his tractor hit tires and that's what got my truck to stop. everyone that witnessed this stated the dog was in the back seat and no one got out of the vehicle. as i approached the truck it sounded to be running at idle and when i grabbed the door handle the locks unlocked as normal. i found the truck in drive and rpm at normal idle range. the truck allowed me to put it back in park. i then restarted the truck, moved it back to the parking lot. the business has security camera footage of this showing how my truck un tampered with went from idle and park for 25ish min to driving across the road and i am currently perusing a copy of the tape. dealer was contacted and i was told to make an appointment late next week (earliest available) for an inspection, and until then to set the parking brake every time. truck appears to be driving as normal. the store was around 15 miles away, truck was parked all night leading up to event.
July 2nd i pulled into my driveway, opened my garage door, placed vehicle in park and exited vehicle to go in the house. my fiance stayed in vehicle, i turned and yelled to her to come in house as i was going to let dogs out before we left again.i proceeded in house and she exited vehicle to come in.she walked through the garage and i heard her screaming frantically, i ran out to the garage and the truck followed her into the garage and she was between my workbench and the truck.i pulled her out of the way and the truck continued pushing my basement wall in about 7 inches. i ran around the truck and applied the brakes,it was in park.we contacted fiat chrysler, they sent me a paper to sign allowing them to get information from the orc in the vehicle, which i allowed.on friday july 20th we met with an inspector and he hooked up computers to the truck to get the information stating he sends report to fca and they would notify us.we got a letter yesterday july 27th basically stating per our owners manual we should always use emergency brake and declined any responsibility. never stated or shared what the ocr results showed.this could have killed someone and the rotary shifter is a problem.a few days after the incident while driving on a beautiful sunny day the wipers start up full boar like it was pouring out.they were in the off position. something is wrong and they are taking no responsibility. we have been to the dealer and there is probably $3500 to 5000 damage just to vehicle. grill is broke, headlight housing fender and bumper damage. repairs to basement wall and my fiance was black and blue and sore ,hip area and ankle. *dsy
Bojangles parking lot, put truck in park. got out, looked to make sure i was not blocking anybody behind me and walked into the store because my order was wrong. stood in line for roughly a minute or 2 and heard a crash, turned around and my truck had hit a ford explorer on the driver rear side of the bumper. no injuries, everyone was okay. bumper scratched up, gave them my information. i'm curious to how my truck jumped out of park into n or d. if it was in n, my truck would have moved when i was getting out of the truck, and would have taken a much shorter amount of time to hit the other vehicle. the other people said they saw me walk into the restaurant and my truck wasn't moving.

Placed vehicle in park as it sat in parking space beside the garage, with drivers side door close to exterior wall. vehicle was running at the time. i was exiting vehical when it began to move forward. resulting in my right leg being trapped within the door as the truck door hit the wall of the garage. i was then dragged and crushed between the vehicle and exterior wall of garage, until my body cleared the end of the garage and i was released. upon inspecting the vehicle i found the transmission was in drive instead of park where i had left it.
While servicing a customers 2016 ram 1500 pick up pulled truck up to door, placed knob shifter in to park, got out and walked up beside truck as i got to l/f wheel truck started to move forward turned around to get back in truck showed to be in drive. truck proceded to roll through door and came to a stop. no wan was injured damage was limated to truck and door.
Had my transmission replaced at 16000 miles because every time you stopped or took off from a red light it felt like you were getting rear ended, and here we are 5000 miles later and it's doing it again and now we have to battle ram again to get this one replaced . i hate this truck and this company what's sad is dodge and ram is all we have ever owned and never had this problem at all .
The truck was put into park with the key in the ignition and the engine running. it was parked in a restaurant parking lot. then around five minutes later, it went into reverse and began rolling backwards. it seemed to accelerate. i had to jump in and slam on the brake to stop it. i do not know how this could occur, but have recently learned of recalls for similar situation with the truck in the parked position, but going into gear. our vin was not recalled. there were witnesses to this event.

On sunday, august 20, 2017, my 2016 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck was parked with the engine running in a boat ramp with my boat trailer attached and backed into the water next to the dock. the emergency brake was not on. i exited the vehicle, walked down the boat dock, stepped to the back of my boat, walked to the front of the boat, climbed down to the tongue of the trailer, pulled out the strap and attached it to my boat, began to crank the boat to the front of the trailer, when suddenly the truck started rolling backward into the water. by the time i could jump from the tongue of the trailer, climb on the dock, dive into the front passenger window, crawl across to the drivers seat and try to stop and start the truck, it was too late. the truck would not start and i could not stop it because it was beginning to float. the vehicle rolled backwards into the lake, despite being in park. the electronic transmission must have moved from park to neutral or reverse to allow the vehicle to roll backwards. the entire vehicle nearly submerged. all of the windows were opened and the vehicle filled with water to within approximately one foot from the ceiling of the cab. when the vehicle and trailer were towed out of the water, the vehicle was stuck in park and could not be put into neutral. it was dragged in park for about 50 yards to clear it from the busy boat ramp. the manistee county sheriff complaint # for this accident is: 151-1628-17. pictures are attached. aaa insurance has declared the truck a total loss.
Unpredictable and sometime violent downshifting causing momentary loss of control of the vehicle when driving in wet, slippery conditions. this has occurred on several occasions while driving through rain storms. the vehicle started to exhibit erratic shifting behavior at ~5,000 miles and has gotten progressively worse to a point that the transmission unpredictable shifting occurs in all conditions. the impact of the shifts is severe enough that it is being transmitted through the driver's seat creating extreme discomfort and pain to the lower back. a 'service shifter' message is also being displayed. the vehicle was taken in to the dealership. the dealership stated that they don't know why the 'service shifter' message is coming on because no trouble codes are showing; they re-flashed the cpu to see if would correct the erratic and unpredictable shifting, it is not working, in fact it has gotten worse. the dealership also stated that the vehicle may have a defective driveshaft which may be contributing to the harsh shifting, they have one order.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. after the contact's wife parked the vehicle, it rolled out of the driveway and crashed into another vehicle parked inside the neighbor's garage. prior to the failure, the vehicle was in park and the key was in the ignition while the engine was running. the contact's spouse injured her right wrist and left knee while attempting to stop the vehicle. medical attention was received. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to demontrond chrysler dodge jeep ram (888 interstate 45 s, conroe, tx 77304 (281) 528-1700) and was awaiting a diagnosis. the manufacturer stated that they would send investigators to determine the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 17,837.
We have the knob shifter and when he stopped he put it in park (left engine running) he walked behind truck and into store and picked out what he needed and then while he was paying the teller noticed his trucked started moving in reverse so my son ran out to get in truck to stop it but was to late it his a pole which and shattered the window of gas station, i reported it to fca and they inspected it and said no problem but i have video and witness that states it was a couple minutes before it started moving. i have called mr. kon (fca) 586-274-8162 but he has not returned any of my call which leads me to believe they are hiding something. i did do some research and noticed this is a problem

I parked truck on an inclined area; rear approximately 10" higher than front; i exited vehicle & began to unload cargo from rear of vehicle; the truck suddenly rolled forward about 10-12". i opened drivers door and verified that transmission control was indeed in "park"; it was. i also noted that as it rolled forward it did so in rythmic manner; two beats; as though the engine had turned over/ rolled over. it has not repeated this malfunction but then again, i haven't parked on an incline like that since the occurance (march 2017; 10,500 miles on odometer; 5.7 v8)
At approximately 4700 miles the vehicle began to harshly shift from 2nd gear to 1st gear when slowing to a stop, in slow moving traffic or pulling in to a parking space. the vehicle will lunge forward when this occurs feeling as the vehicle was tapped from behind. the vehicle was returned for service at the original selling dealer who acknowledged the problem and proceeded to perform a "quick learn" procedure which re-calibrates the transmission shift patterns. upon driving the vehicle after this service noticed it did not resolve the issue. scheduled another appointment where the dealer replaced the transmission valve body and controller. after driving the vehicle for 3 weeks the issue returned. the ram factory representative coordinated for the truck to be dropped off at the dealership so he could see the problem. i provided detailed information of exactly when the problem occurred and specifically that the transmission needed to be above 170 degrees. this information was ignored and the rep didn't see the problem. after 6 months of dealing with the issue contacted ram corporate and was informed that the dealer never followed up with request from the engineers if their service repaired the problem. was instructed to take the vehicle to another dealer under an escalated case. to summarize the rest the vehicle has been to the dealer several more times, had firmware flashes and said they have no other repair options, the latest is ram had another representative drive the vehicle once again ignoring the circumstances of when the issues occurs and says that harsh shifting is inerrant once the vehicle breaks in at 5 - 6 thousand miles even though they couldn't give me an explanation of how they were describing "harsh shifting". ram closed the case saying they had no further repairs for the vehicle because the factory representative says it is acceptable.
Thought it was in park, rolled away.
I experienced a 'roll away' event after putting the vehicle in park via the gear knob selector while the engine was running. after engaging the vehicle in park, opening the driver's door and stepping outside the vehicle, it rolled forward crashing into another vehicle some 30 feet ahead. the initial position of the vehicle was outside a large commercial garage. when the vehicle became disengaged from park, it rolled forward through the garage doors and into the garage space until crashing into another vehicle (parked). after realizing the vehicle had dropped out of park and was moving forward, i tried to jump back into the cab to apply the brakes. i was unable to fully catch up to the truck, slipped on the running board/rail and slid underneath the moving vehicle -- injuring my ankle and shin. fortunately, the ram was stopped just before running over my legs by the parked vehicle ahead. i have security surveillance video of the incident. i have substantial damage to the vehicle's front chrome bumper from the crash and now have little confidence that the truck is safe to operate. it sits virtually unused since the incident. i was hoping to get clarity, assurance, along with a safety fix and body repair from the manufacturer so that i could feel confident in driving it again. i have contacted fca and opening a formal case on this incident. their written response was to quote the owner's manual and indicate the park is only a supplement to the parking break. this response is unsafe, impractical and unacceptable.
While vehicle was idling in park it began to roll backwards down my driveway with my wife in passenger seat. i had to run after it and as soon as i opened driver door it came to a full stop. vehicle was in 4 wheel drive mode at the time. again vehicle was in park!
My truck rolled back about 6 ft in my drive way while it was parked about 20 minutes after getting out the truck. i moved the truck back and about 20 minutes later it rolled back 4 ft. i then moved it again and put the parking break on with no movement my driveway has a small incline around 3-4%.
I had received this dodge ram as a rental while my truck was getting body work done. before i picked up my son at school i stopped at my house to empty out some work tools to make room for him. i put the truck in park with the rotary dial on a slight incline on my laneway i shut the truck off and walked towards my front door. as i walked away from the truck i heard the snow compressing behind me. i turned around and seen the truck rolling backwards down my laneway. my reaction was to chase the truck thinking i must have forgot to put it in park. i caught up with the truck threw the door open and jumped in. i put the brake on and noticed it was in park. i turned the truck on and drove it back up the laneway. i then tried to put it in park again and let my foot off the brake. it rolled back again so i drove it forward again and tried park again with no response from the transmission and it rolled back again. i then turned the truck around and backed up the laneway and put it in park and let off the brake. the truck then engaged in park but would then chug its way down the laneway but in a slower manner. after picking up my boy at school i parked my truck in my shop and went in the house. after half an hour my adrenaline wore off and my hand, wrist and arm started to hurt. i went to the hospital and received x-rays, i ended up tearing my limb muscles from opening the door handle and jumping into the truck. i called the rental company to let them know and demanded a different vehicle. i do have pictures of the registration from the rental company and my doctors notes on my phone but i am having difficulties uploading them to my computer right now. *tr
While truck is sitting in park and unattended, the truck will roll backwards sometime a couple inches sometimes a few yards
Vehicle was backed into a residential garage. started vehicle and pulled forward out of garage. placed vehicle in park and exited the vehicle with the engine running. upon exiting, vehicle began traveling in reverse and traveled backwards into the garage hitting another vehicle and the garage wall. have owned the vehicle for 8.5 months and approx. 21,000 miles and is very familiar with the "rotary shifter". have noticed a few other occasions that the transmission was placed in park and an onscreen warning came up "vehicle not in park". 17 days prior to this accident the vehicle was placed in park and when the owner exited the vehicle and came to the rear, he noticed the reverse lights were on however the vehicle did not move due the incline it was parked on. i believe the rotary shifter for the transmission is faulty.
Coming home from work on january 5, 2017, i pulled my 2016 ram 1500 pickup part way into my garage, turned the rotary shifter to park and exited the vehicle to make sure that i had a clear path of travel to fully pull the vehicle in the garage. my driveway is an upslope and a portion of the truck was still in the driveway. after i exited the vehicle it began to move backward. the vehicle's door threw me to the ground and swept my legs under the truck.the front left tire ran over both of my legs. the truck continued down our driveway, across the street, through our neighbor's fence and only stopped when it hit a tree in their front yard. my family rushed me to our local hospital emergency room and was i was admitted into that hospital the following morning.

While truck is placed in park it began to roll back while on hill. this has occurred multiple times. parking break is not always strong enough to hold wight of truck on incline.
As i was parked in a parking lot, the vehicle switched from park to drive without my input, causing a collision. additionally, i have noticed, after i place the car in park, it will jump to drive on its own.
Vehicle has rolled out of my driveway about 8 feet from its original location when parked. vehicle was placed into park. vehicle was not running, emergency brake was not set. engine was off in all cases
On dec 22 i pulled up to my fianc's school put the 2016 ram 1500 in park my foot was still on the break. i took my seatbelt off and so did my fianc. took my foot of the break and the truck went forward. looked down verified the shifter was in park fiance verified also and the d light was blinking on my dial shifter but was turned to park. put the emergency break on turned the key of turned the key back on and low and behold it was in park and p was lit up. this is the 2nd time this has rolled forward while in park. last time it took my garage door out. i filed a previous complaint 10936408 about that incident but wanted to put in a complaint for this incident also. this is getting to be quite dangerous. i do use the emergency brake when i park now. hard habit to get into when your vehicle is an automatic but i am getting in the habit. i am just happy that it was after school hours and no little kids walked in front of the vehicle when this happened that could have been bad real bad.. this happened in a public school parking lot truck was at a full stop and shifter was turned all the way to park but d light started blinking once the truck drove forward on its own until key was shut off and what appears to me it reset the computer so it went to park when key was turned on again.

It seems that my truck rolled down the drive way when it was parked and the rotary shifter was in "p" position. i parked it saturday night (12/17/2016) and found it sunday morning against the garage. the truck rolled against the garage door post. the rear bumper and the tailgate of the truck are damaged as well as the siding of the garage.
Twice i had the truck roll backwards when in park and parked on a steep driveway. both times the truck was turned off. both times the truck rolled backwards about ten feet until i applied the brakes. after i stopped the truck, i restarted the engine and confirmed it was it park. both times i was on the same driveway, so i was expecting it the second time. the second time the truck rolled back a couple of inches (as expected in a slopped driveway), it seemed to catch, but then started moving again. it seemed to have some resistance, but still rolled about ten feet at which time i applied the brakes. there was a light coating of snow on the driveway and i could easily make out the tire print., so the tire was not sliding. plus other trucks and cars where able to park on the driveway and we where able to walk up the driveway without slipping, so i do not believe the truck was sliding on the snow. *tr
On dec 5th 2016 i was backing out of my driveway and forgot the trash can was behind the truck got out my 2016 dodge ram that has 4700 miles to move the trash can from behind my truck. thought i had it in park and it rolled forward into the garage door. before it pushed completely in to touch the other car i got the truck stopped. i seen this investigation on the news so wanted to make a complaint known. it had me thinking did i not put it in park or did i turn down the radio because they are so close the dial shifter and volume control. i have never done anything like that in all my years of driving but started doubting myself before i heard this report. it was so early in the morning around 6:30 am. this happened in my driveway. because of all this i still have doubts in my mind what happened. just real coincidental it would happen about the same time this came out on the news in our area. thanks for your time. *tr
