This fire start on air intake, i lost the truck. was driving fine and start blue smoke come of hood... this truck got a recall open, this recall is about fire on air intake. i call dodge to do they never have the part... the end of history i lost my truck.
Engine caught fire due to egr system overheating (maybe burning internally) melting then spontaneously catching foam rubber pad above the egr diffuser tube on fire. resulted in melting wires, hose and other parts attached to engine. was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher. was driving to menards in normal illinois and smelled smoke at first stop light, thought it was van next to me. at next stop light smelled the smoke again and pulled into menards parking lot. saw lots of smoke coming out from under hood. raised hood looking for where smoke was coming from. saw a small flame, went to back of truck and took out fire extinguisher. went to front of truck and flame had turned to flames, extinguished fire.

Had recall done on my ram 1500 ecodiesel truck now has no power shifting is erratic and sometimes delayed exhaust gases are now coming into cabin area and today the truck started popping back i have already taken truck back 3 times to the dealer and each time it is worse they also did some type of upgrade to the safety restraint system making this vehicle totally unsafe for highway use if the door is not closed right or if someone opens door the vehicle slams itself into park this vechile was a nice truck when i bought it now its a moving deathtrap chrysler needs to start some type of buy back program
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact received nhtsa campaign number 19v757000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact stated that the vehicle was using an excessive amount of coolant. while, driving 50-55 mph, the vehicle slowed down, loss power, and the engine compartment caught fire. there was an abnormal odor of smoke detected. the low pressure, throttle, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. the fire department was on the scene and extinguished the fire. .the vehicle was previously taken to watson benzie 1514 benzie hwy, benzonia, mi 49616 (231) 882-4417 where the egr cooler was ordered but on back order and pressure testing was performed. the vehicle was towed to an independent lot. the manufacturer was contacted who provided case number 71753449. the failure mileage was 95,000.
Engine lifters and camshaft failure. engine misfiring and power loss.
There is a considerable difference in throttle response currently upon initially starting vehicle. it makes it quite difficult for the truck to accelerate as intended shortly after starting. there have been several incidents already in which i have had to stomp on the accelerator to avoid a collision as i was not expecting the truck to crawl along versus it's standard acceleration.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, there was an abnormal exhaust odor in the cabin of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to north point chrysler dodge fiat jeep ram located at 7726 north point blvd, winston-salem, nc 27106, (336)306-8945, to be diagnosed. the technician was able to duplicate the failure. the contact was informed that the dealer replaced a half of the exhaust system however, there was no repairs performed in the near proximity of the catalytic converter or the header. the manufacturer was also contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
The egr cooler recall has affected my truck and there is not a fix for the recall that was issued in october 2019. i am experienced a reduction in fuel economy by about 20% since the check engine light has come on. the check engine light has also caused other features of my vehicle to longer become operable (remote started will not work with check engine light).
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph on the highway, smoke was noticed inside of the vehicle. the contact pulled over and exited the vehicle with the passenger. the driver and the passenger sustained sore throat and eye irritation due to the smoke but it was unknown if medical attention was required. the smoke eventually cleared and the vehicle was towed to the dealer (randy marion chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 2000 us-421, wilkesboro, nc 28697). the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v757000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle remained at the dealer for almost 2 months. the dealer refused to return the vehicle along with its belongings to the contact due to the pending recall however there was no recall remedy or part available expected date. the contact inquired about the buy back program but there was no response on it being approved or declined. a loaner vehicle was provided however it was a smaller vehicle causing an inconvenience. the manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall remedy or parts available. the failure mileage was 106,000. I received a safety recall notice on 12/4/19 from fca us. it states there may be a problem with the egr cooler which may result in a fire and risk of injury/property damage. per fcs recall "the remedy for this condition is not currently available" i don't like the idea or do i want to take a chance that this fire could happen to me and my family as i operate this vehicle. the risk is to great. fca should be required to provide me with a no charge comparable vehicle until the parts are available and repair complete. again, i do not want to drive around in a potential fire bomb. knowingly driving this vehicle could injury/kill me, family, and others on the road.. i have no other choice but to drive this vehicle until fixed as i have no other truck option. please do something. there are thousands of these vehicles on the road and fires are occurring related to this defect. fca is to big for me to go after as an individual and that is why i'm reaching out to nhtsa for help. thank you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off and the engine coolant was low. the cause of the failure was not determined. ray chrysler jeep dodge (23 north rt trail, fox lake, il) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the contact was informed that the parts for nhtsa campaign number: 19v757000(engine) were not presently available. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Truck completely shuts off while driving down the road without warning, has egr and service electronic throttle control, service exhaust, has other related electrical problems that shows up as codes, replaced the fuel pump and it still shows low fuel pressure and take several seconds to crank now and my fuel mileage is decreased.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle caught fire without warning. the contact stated that the cabin filled with smoke and lost all electrical functions, including braking and power steering ability. the contact pulled the vehicle over, but was unable to unlock the doors. the contact had to break the driver's window to exit the vehicle. the contact had to roll on the ground to extinguish the fire to his clothing. the contact stated that the vehicle was totally engulfed in flames by the time the fire department arrived approximately one hour later. the fire department was able to extinguish what remained of the fire. a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a towing facility. the vehicle was then moved to the insurance lot. an investigation was still pending. the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 19v757000 (engine and engine cooling). brickner motors inc (16450 co rd a, marathon city, wi 54448, (715) 842-5611) was contacted by phone and informed of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 680791325. the contact stated that a decision had not been made as to whether the vehicle was deemed a total loss. the cause of the failure was not determined. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Driving on i -29 and we smelled comething like antifreeze then smoke. truck lost power then got it back and was going to try to make it to an exit but pulled over when smoke coming from under the hood. opened the hood and saw fire! called 911 and fire dept came but in a matter on minutes the truck burned up completely.

This pertains to my 2015 dodge ram with the 3.0 liter ecodiesel engine. ever since i got the required emissions control engine and transmission software update from fiat chrysler automobiles (fca), my truck's engine performance has been affected to the extent that i cannot depend on it's excelleration. i press on the gas peddle, and the engine hesitates severely before it accelerates. from a stop sign or a red light, the hesitation is such that i won't try to cross the intersection if there are any cars either to my right or left. similarly, the hesitation and acceleration lag makes merging onto a highway a safety concern. the trucks fuel economy has also been negatively affected. i urge the nhtsa to compel cfa to reverse the software update, or fix it such that the truck is no longer a driving safety concern.
Extreme lag during acceleration has almost resulted in multiple accidents. work commute has me turning left onto busy road with limited visibility due to blind corner and i've almost been t-boned/rear ended because of the lag between giving the truck gas and actual acceleration. this is becoming more prevalent as temperatures drop. this morning i spun out trying to avoid being rear ended while pulling out because the throttle goes from lag to full throttle with no gradual acceleration.
The aem recall was completed and the truck has a horrible turbo lag, which almost caused me to be in an accident twice within 15 minutes of picking it up. dealership will not look at it and this is an unsafe vehicle for road use.
After having the aem (approved emissions modification) done for my vehicle i have noticed an extreme lag in engine response. when pulling out into traffic from a stop it takes at least four seconds for the engine to respond as it used to before this update. there have been several instances, even taking this response time into consideration before pulling into traffic, that i have almost been rear ended because of the lack of response or acceleration. a check on any ram ecodiesel forum on the web will find many other owners having this same issue. all agree this is a safety hazard and will eventually result in someone's death. i will put today's date in down below because this is not a one time occurrence it is a daily occurrence with this vehicle.
I had the recall from ram for the ecodiesel recall and now the truck is complete unsafe. i can't even accelerate into traffic without getting nervous. the truck lags and the throttle response is terrible now. instead of buying them back like volkswagen did, chrysler put us in death traps.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph with the cruise control engaged in eighth gear, the vehicle downshifted into sixth gear. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel mileage decreased. the vehicle was taken to carlock chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat of tupelo (966 cross creek dr, saltillo, ms 38866, (662) 842-2277) where it was diagnosed that the egr cooler burst and was leaking. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. the failure mileage was 72,435. *bf *tp
After aem update their is a throttle and turbo lag that has put me in harms way on numerous occasions. when making a left or right turn the engine fails to accelerate for some times up to a block making it impossible to merge safely with traffic this has resulted in numerous extremely close calls. both on city streets and highways the problem is in the new software that updated the required aem this problem is being ignored by fca and you how many accidents or deaths before you act?
Did the aem recall emissions reprogram. the truck now has very slow acceleration when cold. you have to floor the throttle to get it to move when cold. very dangerous when merging into traffic or leaving a stop. the fuel economy has dropped to 20-21 mpg from 25 and higher. it is a much different and not enjoyed truck anymore. talked with dealer. they are very aware of the issue as almost everyone has the same problems. nothing they can do but say "hopefully a different re flash or tune will be sent after the complaints" wishing now it was just a simple buy back offer.
I have a 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel truck. it recently had the upgrade to the epa approved engine and transmission program as a result of the lawsuit between the epa and fca, llc. this new program has induced a "dead zone" in my accelerator pedal that is, in my opinion, dangerous. i have had this new program for a couple of weeks and twice have experienced no acceleration while progressively pressing the pedal while turning at an intersection. this is scary and unacceptable. my claim rep at fca, llc indicated that fca, llc is aware of the issue, but basically i am stuck with the program. the truck did not do this before the re-programming upgrade. another case of "we're from the government, and we're here to help."
After having recall, v08 done on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel truck. i have an extreme lag when taking off. it is so bad it could be dangerous when merging into traffic from a complete stop. it is a dead pedal with no acceleration when you push down on pedal. this occurs when ever i accelerate from a stop. i did not have this issue before the v08 update. i have heard this is a very wide problem among ram 1500's that have had v08 completed. is there a fix or update to correct this issue?
After receiving my truck back from a ram dealership who preformed the required aem emissions recall, it has not run the same. the is a noticeable mpg drop both in the city and on the highway. there is also a significant delay in the response of the truck when trying to accelerate. this is noticeable when lightly accelerating while in traffic or when you have to aggressively accelerate to either avoid another vehicle or when getting up to speed of moving traffic.
I just received the upgrade for the emissions recall on my 2015 ram ecodiesel. after reading about the complaints on forums i told myself to be honest with myself and keep a open mind after the work was completed. well with certainty i can honestly say that all the complaints are legitimate. it is a different performing vehicle. large lag in engine powering up from a stop. one has to take the hesitation that is now present into consideration to be safe when crossing a intersection or out into traffic anywhere. i am 63 years old and consider myself a safe conscientious driver. but have to bury the accelerator up to 3000 rpm when pulling out i to traffic!!! that is crazy. it did not perform this radical to easily criss an intersection prior to the updated ecm. someone will or has already got into an accident due to the change and i will not put my family in danger due to the changes that fiat/chrysler made to satisfy a lawsuit. this issue that all of us owners are having needs to be addressed. i urge you to look into the dangerous situation that the changes have made to the ecodiesel engine. somebody will get t boned and get or killed due to the downgrade of the engines ability to perform normally. i do envision another class action lawsuit due to severe injuries or fatalities. thank you for your time and hopefully assistance. After resolving recall for emmsuons on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel, the throttle response is lagging. after i make a turn onto a road the truck fails to accelerate when the gas peddle is being pushed. it has about a 3-4 second leg time. it is especially bad in a 90 degree turn going through a green light onto another road. i've almost been rear ended by trafficking that was originally 150-200 feet away when i originally turned onto the road. the lag is also noticed in passing situations.
Interrion of truck fills up with water because third brake light, manifold bolts and gaskets need replaced due to some issue. tapping noise from engine compartment.
Ecodiesel - following recall aem (approved emissions modification) update, throttle response is extremely poor at times. when turning onto a roadway from a stop the vehicle is sometimes very slow to accelerate, risk of collision due to being unable to increase to safe speed. when trying to accelerate under this condition the vehicle will suddenly abruptly accelerate which sometimes results in wheel spin (loss of traction). this happens in dry and wet conditions.
After receiving the approved emission modification recall update to my truck, the throttle response is very very slow and inconsistent. predicting whether the truck will respond to your input each time you press the accelerator is impossible. this has put me in some dangerous situation pulling into traffic or merging onto a highway the aem recall was not supposed to change the performance or mpg of the vehicle and yet it made a noticeable difference to both.
V08 recall. acceleration from any speed, including standing start is dangerously delayed, pulling into and across traffic is unpredictable. there is no throttle response until around 70% throttle, then acceleration is unpredictable and late. fuel consumption is beyond passable for such a potentially efficient and powerful engine. the purpose of the vehicle is light towing. the power train has been tuned to the point that it's useless, the vgt fights at above 70% capacity to maintain torque and power to the wheels. fuel injection timing ranges from -17 to +5 degrees, only to maintain emissions efficiency, the new ecu programming completely ignores efficient engine management- focusing on emissions control. system and engine components are not designed for the crazy egt temps that come with the late fuel injection. engine fires- intake manifold in particular- are becoming very common. will it take a few fatalities before something is done. all to prove some epa point. i could be getting 30 plus mpg, without the egr system, still target specific exhaust gas emissions reductions and get some reliability without fearing my vehicle will burst into flames or get t-boned trying to cross traffic.
My truck received the v08 emissions software recall before i purchased it in july of 2019. as with hundreds of other ecodiesel owners, i am experiencing a dangerous throttle lag when the engine is cold. if i try to turn left and merge into traffic, there is a several second delay before the truck starts building speed. i feel this could potentially cause a crash. i have unintentionally cut people off because of this throttle lag and angered other drivers. there are hundreds of people complaining about this after the v08 recall on internet forums. fca is supposed to have a fix coming according to the internet but who knows if that is true or how long it will take. the aem was "not supposed to alter vehicle performance" according to the recall letter. obviously that was not true. this is a dangerous problem that should be resolved in a timely manor. this should be addressed by a safety recall. some are also claiming their vehicles are catching fire after the aem was performed.
After v08/v11 recall was performed i now experience loss of acceleration till warm up. like a dead pedal. also a loss of a confirmed 5-6mpg. it was stated in the recall we would not loose mileage. if we did it would be very minimal. 5mpg is not minimal. my truck will barely stay in 8th gear now. just bouncing between 7th and 8th. now everyone is worried about all the fires due to egr valves sticking open and causing the plastic intake manifolds to catch fire. my wife is very nervous to take it on trips or even park it in the garage. we had new smoke detectors added in garage incase truck does catch on fire. please look into these issues. there are more than you think. pedal issue, loss of fuel mileage, engine compartment fires. thanks
On 7/29/19 at approximately 12:30 pm, was traveling between 60 - 65 mph, west bound on interstate 40 at n.c. mm 31, the truck lost power (limp in mode), the check engine & service automatic throttle control system lights came on. noticed a small amount of white smoke emitting from the underside of the truck. coasted off of the interstate and came to rest in a used car dealership's parking lot. turned the truck off and opened the hood where i found an approximately 8' flame projecting from under the plastic manifold cover. doused the flame with a bottle of drinking water and took the plastic cover off where i found the wiring harness sheathing engulfed in flames. extinguished that with an abc dry chemical extinguisher. currently the truck is at waynesville ram with no updates as of yet. had the egr recall completed on 6/19/19 at waynesville ram and had noticed decreased power and fuel mileage since but the decreases were minor and just accepted as fact from the recall. i am very concerned at present after researching this situation and conversing with others who have experienced very similar events with the same motor.
After receiving the updated engine programming recall on my ecodiesel ram, the throttle response is dangerously slow when accelerating from a dead stop. there is a several second delay from me applying pressure to the throttle pedal and the engine reacting and accelerating. it's very difficult to judge when turning into traffic because of this delay. could easily cause someone to be rear-ended because the truck does not accelerate as expected. this was not the case prior to the recall.
2015 ram eco diesel. recently, ram and jeep were involved in "in re: chrysler-dodge-jeep "ecodiesel" mdl," which resolved legal claims asserting that the vehicles do not comply with federal and state emissions regulations and that fiat chrysler made misrepresentations to consumers regarding the vehicles. i pulled this info from the eco diesel settlement website. in response to the above, customers were to get (3) things; (1) v08 software update; (2) money, dependent on your ownership status; and (3) a 10 warranty extension. i had the v08 software update completed at the end of may, 2019. since that update, my vehicle has had poor performance with lack of power and acceleration. within a week of having the update done, my check engine light was on with the electronic throttle warning light on as well. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they fixed the issue; however, the lack of acceleration and power remained. through june and july this lack of power and acceleration continued. i then took my vehicle in to the dealership towards the end of july and they opened a star report and told me this recall is having negative effects on a lot people's vehicles. i then took the truck back and was driving at the end of july when the electronic throttle control warning light came on again. this time, there was a smell similar to burning electrical. i pulled over and the within minutes the truck was engulfed in flames. fire personal were called and the fire was put out, but not before it engulfed the engine compartment and front of the cabin in flames. i filed a claim with my insurance and contacted fca. both parties sent fire investigators out to look at the vehicle. fca says, with the info at hand, the fire can't be associated with a manufacturing or assembly error. i also contacted the class action attorneys and sent them information from the fire as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving approximately 35 mph, the engine started to make a clicking noise. the contact pulled over in a parking lot as white smoke started to emerge from the engine compartment. the vehicle was towed to community chrysler dodge (2200 s walnut st, bloomington, in 47401) where it remained since july 23, 2019 until now. the dealer determined that the egr was burned and also had a bad turbo. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired by eastgate chrysler ram (500 n shadeland ave, indianapolis, in 46219) on november 26, 2019 where they replaced all the electrical wiring (41 wires). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to hire an attorney. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000. the vin was unavailable.
My 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel recently received the v08 recall. two weeks after the recall the truck broke down on the side of the road on july 01. the truck was in the shop until 07-19. i drove the truck home from the shop and did not notice extreme lag at that time. the. i got i to the truck at the dealer the truck had been idling and was almost to operation temperature of 200' fahrenheit. the next morning upon first start up i drove the truck and was immediately almost in a accident as when the truck was cold with temps below 150' there was an almost 5 second lag from then the gas pedal was pressed and the truck would accelerate. the truck has severe lag upon acceleration and will not accelerate reliably until the truck has warmed up to almost 200' which takes almost 15 min. the dealer has admitted that there is something wrong but has no way of fixing the problem as the truck is not producing codes to aid in diagnostics. in my opinion the truck is unsafe to drive and should be fixed by fiat chrysler.
I had recall v08 and some other recalls performed at local ram dealer, the emissions modification has left my truck very sluggish (throttle unresponsive) when engine is cold. twice since computer was flashed i have pulled out to cross traffic and truck would not accelerate as it did prior to flash. i was told the flash would not change performance and mileage but both have been affected. i am also using considerable more def fluid. biggest concern is the lack of throttle response when engine is cold, i tend to forget and pull out into traffic and then it gets quite scary, i believe this could lead to accident. this recall was part of a class action settlement against fca, but the little bit of money i was offered does not help me if i'm hurt or killed driving the truck.
Had the a08 emissions software put on my truck last week and it lost most of its power. now when i merge into traffic, i'm not able to accelerate safety .. there is a 5-6 second lag before i get any acceleration. the truck was fine before the recall, now it lacks acceleration, power and fuel economy is worse. there are no engine codes so ram is saying there's nothing they can do .. i'm stuck with a truck that i'm afraid will get me into an accident.
I own a 2015 ram 1500, which i purchased new in august of 2015. this vehicle has the ecodiesel engine as original equipment. this same engine was the topic of a class action law suit filed against fiat/chrysler. the agreements in the settlement of that suit requires ram dealers to update the engine software so that it will meet the original emissions specs. the update is also not supposed to effect drivability. my truck was updated with the v08 recall for this purpose. since this update, when the engine is cold, the truck has a very long delay (4~7 seconds) before it starts to accelerate from a stop. the engine then accelerates very slowly. it is a serious safety concern when trying to merge into traffic. once the engine comes to full operating temperature, it comes close to original performance, but it never performs as it did before the recall was done. the service department at my local ram dealer has verified that there is nothing wrong with any part on the engine, and the problem is a direct result of the v08 recall. this vehicle has been well maintained and exhibited no problems prior to this recall. the settlement required that the update did not effect drivability, but it did so in a dangerous manner.
Tl- contact owns a 2015 dodge ram 1500; contact stated check engine illuminated while driving 75 mpg and fuel gauge returned to empty. the vehicle has not been diagnosed nor repaired by dealer (larry h. miller dodge ram tucson, 4220 e 22nd st, tucson, az 85711), (520) 395-9311). the manufacturer was not been contacted . failure mileage 42583. ep
After the v08 recall the drivability of vehicle is dangerous. the fuel consumption and the lag of the engine is also a huge concern but it handles totally different. while it still seems decently reliable, for now, everyday unsureness of trying to anticipate how the vehicle will handle during driving is the primary factor.
I recently had the approved emissions modification performed on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel. since the modification, the truck has a terrible lag when i take off, sometimes up to 5 seconds. this happens when i put my foot on accelerator and try to go. this lag is going to get me hit and possibly killed. online forums of fellow ram ecodiesel owners state the same problem. ram needs to get this fixed and push out an update that will fix the problem or i'm going to get injured or killed in this truck. it is no longer safe to drive because of this recall modification.
After the fca emissions update my trucks performance has changed so much as to become a danger to me and my family. the truck will not go to get in traffic and i fear being t-boned by another vehicle. when you go to execrate the truck is sluggish and is very slow to go.
After recieving fca's recently released recall for the aem emissions recall the trucks performance is dangerously erratic. there are times the truck will hardly move from a stop pulling into cross traffic and other times it will accelerate extremely hard. this unknown makes it dangerous to operate in a lot of circumstances.
My 2015 ram ecodiesel is part of the fca recall for emmisions. immediately after the recall was performed on my vehicle i noticed a decline in performance. the vehicle has a severe lag in acceleration. i drove the vehicle for two weeks before it went back to the dealer to have them check it. they told me the vehicle is performing as designed. yesterday i drove the vehicle with a load in the bed 2 times. it is my opinion that my 2015 ram ecodiesel is completely unsafe to drive with any type of load in the bed or on a trailer. there are times where it has no acceleration at all for what seems like a lone time. probably 3-5 seconds before the vehicle responds. i have filed a complaint with fca but all they did was call the dealer and repeated to me that the vehicle performed as designed. all i am asking them for is to make my vehicle operate as it did before the emissions recall. my mpg has dropped drastically and the truck does not accelerate or shift as it did. this has resulted in severe lag when pulling out in to traffic, driving up hills and even starting from a dead stop at a traffic light or stop sign.
