I recently had the aem recall update done on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel and now my truck's performance and fuel mileage has really suffered. lost about 3 mpg and the truck is very sluggish now. it makes it dangerous to drive. it just barely moves when you press the accelerator pedal to merge into the flow of traffic. the transmission shifts rough and revs the engine higher before changing gears. very disappointed in the recall and fca for making a good running truck into a dangerous to drive piece of junik!
The emissions recall v08 has made my vehicle dangerous to pull out into traffic
Fca required v08 recall was completed and their aem installed to the pcm/tcm. i picked my truck up and immediately noticed it was down on power. since i have lost 4-5mpg average over what i was getting before the aem was installed. the truck is overall down on power since the aem was installed. as well the truck is dangerous to drive until the coolant temp reaches at least 150 degrees f. the truck has no power when the engine is below 150f and can't get out of its own way and leaves me vulnerable to a collision due to turbo lag and lack of power. if i pull into traffic to merge or cross an intersection my fear is i will not be able to accelerate quickly enough or avoid an accident should i need to. i cannot allow my wife to drive the truck any longer due to the dangers and lack of power.
Fca issued a recall for ecodiesel rams after an emissions lawsuit. the aem update was not supposed to affect vehicle performance or mpg. it does. now, after getting the update, the truck is unpredictable in how it drives in regards to acceleration. this creates a dangerous situation when pulling out onto roads with traffic/cross traffic - sometimes it will accelerate very slowly and almost get hit, other times it is fine. aside from the non safety issues related to fca's emission update (drop in mpg from 29mpg to 20mpg), it has created an unpredictable driving situation with the performance of the engine. i know i am not the only one having these issues too. thank you for your time.
Just had the ecodiesel emission software update completed and truck does not perform near where it had been. it was never a rocket but it was better than it is now. sluggish from standstill, especially when cold. hesitation when shifting. downshifts more often and sooner. i have owned the truck since new and it has had zero modifications. this issues i described above were not there before the update. there will be some accidents caused by the software.
Engine fire on 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel. loss of engine power, but still running, at freeway speed. no warning lights or indicators. pulled to side of the road as "electronic throttle position failure" appeared on info screen. pulled over and opened the hood. there were flames coming from the back of the engine. complete loss.
This vehicle was associated with an emissions recall for its 3.0 liter ecodiesel engine. an aem 'flash' was done to the ecm module, and after that was performed (as part of the emissions recall) the engine's acceleration - previously very responsive - is dangerously lacking. there is a 2-4 second hesitation and terrible response and turbo-lag, and i've very nearly caused an accident when simply trying to pull out into traffic across on-coming traffic lanes. the response from a dead stop is dangerously slow. it's almost as if it's gone into 'limp' mode - which totally disables the turbo. also - even when moving - if trying to accelerate to pass or move over, the response is agonizingly slow.
The recent ecodiesel recall was performed. as i pulled out of the dealership the truck stalled in the middle of a four lane road like the transmission slipped. the next day the truck literally stalled in the middle of the road. the rpms goes up to over 5000 then the truck slowly gains power. i pulled back into the lot and pressed the pedal to the floor from a dead stop and the same thing. went back to the dealership and was told the only complaint so far was a loss in mpg. on the ecodieselram. com forum several other ecodiesel owners are experiencing the same issue. this issue is going to get someone killed!
Involving the eco diesel emissions update performed on my 2015 ram 1500 at the dealership by fca on 06/11/19 said it would not change the driveablity of the vehicle but it has, in the acceleration that is delayed or sometimes just not there at all, this is inconsistent and intermittent when pulling out onto a roadway i must take the possibility in mind that the vehicle might not get going into the flow of traffic, i find this to be a safety hazard for every day drivers. thank you ,please advise
Truck was running perfectly with 43k miles when i brought my truck in for emissions recall v08. the new software has made my truck dangerous to drive when cold, and even after the truck has been sitting for an hour. until fully at operating temp there is a dangerous throttle lag and loss of power which affects me when i pull into traffic and also while towing my travel trailer. the truck does not accelerate, traveling at 2-5mph with the throttle floored causing rear oncoming traffic to have to apply the brakes. while towing i cant accelerate making merging into traffic unsafe. returned it to the dealer and they verified all of the symptoms and did nothing because fca said that's how it runs now...blame the epa.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact received a letter from the manufacturer regarding an emissions update that was required via a lawsuit against them. the contact had the emissions updated at cortese chrysler jeep dodge ram (2400 w henrietta rd, #2324, rochester, ny 14623, (800) 952-7892) in june of 2019. since then, the contact stated that the vehicle's overall performance decreased by 25%. the vehicle also lost power, lost acceleration, and the cruise control operated intermittently. the manufacturer was contacted and a case was opened. the manufacturer informed the contact to call the dealer and inform them of the failures. the same dealer was contacted and stated that everything was fine; however, the contact informed them that the vehicle would hesitate when the accelerator pedal was depressed and then accelerate suddenly. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was operating as intended and closed the case. the failure mileage was 62,000.
Since applying the ecodiesel settlement ecu flash, my vehicle is downright dangerous to drive. especially when not fully warmed up, shifting and turbo lag makes the vehicle nearly undriveable in certain circumstances. the gas pedal has a huge lag and non-linear behavior (press to floor, nothing, then everything all at once). shifting, passing, fuel econony, and driveability were hugely impacted by their emissions update and it has made this expensive truck unsafe, because it is unpredictable based on vehicle and transmission "warmup". when cold the truck is unsafe.
I am writing this for my elderly father. he has a 2015 ram 1500 diesel pick up truck that falls under the eco diesel settlement (class action lawsuit). my dad had the approved emissions modification (aem) that was required to update the emissions control software on may 28, 2019. after the aem completed by the dealer, the truck had throttle issues. when my dad pushed the pedal to accelerate, the vehicle would significantly lag to the point of not accelerating. this is a **continuous** and dangerous condition that was caused by the factory supplied software update. my dad made a complaint to the dealer three hours after the aem was updated on 5/28/19. he also complained to the dealer on june 6, 7, 8 2019 and on many other occasions. they tell him it could take 6 months to fix this dangerous condition. the factory "fix" has now created a dangerous condition. the dealer either can't or won't fix it. many people have apparently complained to the dealer to where the dealer is now advising vehicle owners to not install the factory aem "fix". the dealer tells my dad that factory/corporate is working on a fix.
After completing the approved emissions modification, per the fca-epa lawsuit settlement, i've noticed substantial turbo lag and shifting issues (holding gear too long). this is particularly dangerous when pulling out onto streets or expressways where i need to accelerate up to speed quickly. there is a 3-5 second lag before the turbo begins spooling and my truck begins accelerating.
My ram 1500 was taken to dealer because of the "recall u07 dx 8-speed rotary." as i pulled out of the dealership i had no power for approximately 2 seconds. i drove the truck 5 miles, still having "lag time" when i pressed the accelerator. i immediately called and returned the vehicle to the dealership. they informed me they had to "regenerate" the recall. they did so, but the result was still "lag time." they then informed me it would take "time" for the motor and transmission "computers" to synchronize. i have driven the ram over 100 miles and the problem still exist. the problem was documented by mr.darren lindemann at "corwin dodge ram" in springfield, missouri. 417-862-9272
Recent ecm update by fca has detuned my truck. loss of mpg, turbo lag, causing fires.
I had previously filed a complaint in regards to the effect of the aem (v08) ecodiesel class action settlement recall. the number of the previous complaint is: 11210536. in addition to what was previously reported as dangerous/safety related, the vehicle for several minutes after a cold start, although apparently running smoothly, when attempting to accelerate, will not. a turtle could out run the vehicle. it takes over 5 minutes of driving to get a more reasonable acceleration. again, regardless of a cold start, the vehicle will not accelerate after normal driving, then slowing, and then trying to accelerate. it takes several seconds for the transmission to downshift and for the turbo lag to go away - very dangerous when turning in front of or merging with traffic.
Very weak acceleration after aem update
Re: 2015 ram 1500 pickup with 3.0 ecodiesel engine and automatic transmission following the v08 emissions recall, drivability has been seriously reduced and has created dangerous throttle lag and improper automatic transmission gear selection. i would summarize these issues as turbo lag and improper shift mapping. when accelerating from a complete stop there is a 2-3 second lag before the vehicle begins to move even if the throttle is fully depressed. if you are executing a right or left turn into traffic or crossing an intersection this will leave you exposed to a "t-bone" collision. after this lag it will then accelerate rapidly at full throttle, much faster than you are expecting. if you are executing a turn this could cause loss of control or a wider turn than desired, possibly into another lane of traffic or off the far side of the road. this behavior is even more pronounced when the vehicle has not been run (cold engine). climbing a moderate hill shortly after pulling out of my driveway forces the driver to manually downshift the automatic transmission to first gear to get any forward travel. again, the vehicle will rapidly accelerate after the 2-3 second lag. once returning to "drive" at 15-25 mph the transmission will up-shift several gears and then begin slowing, dropping engine rpm to 1,000, again forcing a manual down-shift to second or third gear to maintain speed. the engine produces almost no power until the engine reaches 2000 rpm. all of this behavior began after the noted recall. i have contacted a ram dealer regarding this performance and was told that this is a common complaint. they mentioned that the factory was aware of this but has no remedy available. *js
Aem recall following the aem recall on the dodge ram ecodiesel, vehicle experiences dead spots in it acceleration. pressing the gas pedal, even to the floor, provides no input to the truck for 3-5 seconds. this issue has placed myself and my family in danger in multiple intersections and in merging traffic. vehicle has also experienced deminished fuel mileage of over 3mpg. fca specifically states the following: "the aem is not expected to change any of your key vehicle attributes, such as average fuel economy, reliability, durability, vehicle performance, drivability, engine noise or vibration, or other driving characteristics. click here to read the court approved notice that includes important additional details about the effect of the aem on your vehicle." almost all of the vehicle characteristics listed are affected in a negative way. in doing so, fca is placing all ecodiesel owners at risk.
Ram flashed the computer on my truck to comply with the diesel emissions lawsuit. when i left the dealership after the flash and tried to enter the traffic lane the truck barely responded to the throttle. there was a huge delay and if not for a pull off area i would have been in an accident. how they got this flash approved makes me wonder what is going on with providing safety in a vehicle. i consider what they did to my truck criminal.
Fiat chrysler (fca) recently settled a class action lawsuit affecting my ram ecodiesel truck. after that settlement, i was required to get a software flash called the "approved emissions modificatoin" (aem). after receiving that software "fix", my truck drives notably different and is now very dangerous due to the huge drop in power and increase in turbo lag. especially when the engine is cold or not completely up to operating temperature, i experience almost no throttle response when pulling out onto a highway by my house. there is a huge amount of turbo lag, to the tune of several seconds, which makes pulling out into traffic a very dangerous event. this was never an issue prior to the required aem update, so i'm filing a complaint to outline this drastic decrease in performance which is downright dangerous for thousands if not millions of ram and jeep customers.
After getting the most recent 'v08' recall on my 2015 ram eco diesel i've since had extreme lag on the truck when taking off. this make it extremely difficult when pulling out into traffic. this was not an issue before the update.
Motor has been updated has no power and lost mileage. from 22 to 17 mpg. transmission does not downshifts at stop making acceleration slow.untill gears shift. pedal must be on floorboard.
As a result of the epa lawsuit against fca, my 2015 ram ecodiesel had the approved emissions modification performed by a dealer on may 10, 2019. on may 11, 2019, while driving on the freeway (!) the intake manifold valving failed due to a major portion of my emissions system failing (egr valve and egr cooler) resulting in substantial loss of power while in the middle of the road. the truck was delivered to the dealer on may 12. replacement of the egr system and intake manifold was required. numerous parts delays followed. then, while trying to replace a glow plug, the glow plug threads were found to be seized in the cylinder head, necessitating replacement of the cylinder head (this is another common problem with fca ecodiesel motors and costs the customer $3000 dollars to repair.) more part delays. when all parts finally arrived the vehicle would start but not continue running. according to the dealer the solution is to replace the other cylinder head. estimated part availability is nov. 19, 2019 (today is 26aug2019). fca needs to replace these motors at a minimum or buyback the vehicles and replace them.
Why my vin number is not in the nhtsa data base regarding the ram 1500 pick up recall for 2014-2016 vehicles? involving majority of the drive train, exhaust, evc, and air intake.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v757000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact stated that the vehicle did not accelerate. also, when attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle stopped without warning. the contact stated that the failure began after the computer was reprogrammed (epa ecm update). the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the failure mileage was 24,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Engine fire resulting in tow to dealership. hauling 4000lb trlr @ 65mph, rumbling first then white smoke from rear of truck when engine died. pulled off hwy and found small fire in center of manifold. extinguished and restarted truck. fuel spraying from fuel line.
Engine shuts off instantly without warning while driving at various speeds. won't start back up for several hours. when trying to restart, starter turns but seems no gas is going to engine. truck only has 39k miles. when i walked away from the truck the auto starter tried to start it on it's own.
Making the 12 mile trip to work when at mile 10 my truck experienced a decrease in power followed by a shuddering noise when on the throttle. limped the vehicle off to the shoulder where i noted smoke. opened the hood to discover a small fire toward the rear of the engine compartment. tried to extinguish the flames with no luck and with in 5 mins the flames had engulfed the front of the truck.
2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel mileage: ~97,000 date of incident: 03/24/2019 complaint: engine fire. location: two lane state highway (in motion) speed: 55-60 towing: boat (~3000 lbs) source of fire: fuel injector (stated by ram certified diesel mechanic) ram warranty claim: denied by what fiat chrysler called "legal" (my truck was still within the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty) outcome: utilized my insurance (allstate). allstate does not cover the source of fire thus, you will not see the cost of the "fuel injector" on the insurance claim document. submit document: insurance claim document included.
Drove less than a mile and truck shut down in middle of intersection while moving without warning. took to shop and found out it had dropped a piston. had engine pulled and another used (22000mile) engine put it. truck ran for 40 minutes but was showing misfire in 7. then truck shut down.
Exhaust manifold bolts continually shear off from the high heat displacement of the 5.7 v8 hemi engine. symptoms include a rapid ticking sound during engine startup.
The engine blew up under warranty but was voided by aftermarket parts. the parts had nothing to do with the failure.fca knows there is a serious problem and found the easy wayout costing me thousands...
Took the truck in for a recall reflash of a controller. two weeks later, at 58mph, without warning dashboard lite up numerous symbols/codes and engine shutoff, losing power steering and power brakes. i steered vehicle onto side of road, and engine would not restart. took first dealership 4 weeks to diagnosis a crank position tone wheel, and sensor failure. vehicle was returned then 2 weeks later, while refueling at a gas station same failure occurred with diesel engine stoppage, and no restart. vehicle was taken to second chrysler dealership. vehicle has been in second dealership for 11 weeks, "undergoing diagnosis". as of 6/6/2019, no solution found. frankly, i do not believe they have a clue what is causing the random engine shut off, nor how to repair it. this is what makes it such a frightening defect. it appears random, with absolutely no warning until the dashboard lights up and instantaneously the engine shuts off. how am i suppose to drive a vehicle with my two children around, when it could stall at any time at any speed? i've been lucky twice. once at 58mph on a two lane road, once stationary. what if it fails merging on to an expressway, or crossing a railroad track? *tr
Several time while attempting to cross an intersection or just driving my truck has gone into limp mode leaving me without throttle control exposing me to possible collision .
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact stated that there was a defective battery placed in the vehicle. the battery exploded and damaged the starter, which caused the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was taken to branhaven jeep chrysler dodge ram (348 w main st, branford, ct 06405, (203) 488-6351) for repairs, but the vehicle stalled again. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, which caused the rear windshield to become smashed. the dealer kept the vehicle for nine weeks and a loaner vehicle was provided. the rear windshield was repaired, the engine harness was replaced, and an entirely new wiring system was installed. the contact expected some type of compensation from the dealer, but none was offered. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Was driving in town not towing or loaded, truck stumbled like out of fuel. i pulled over and raised the hood and saw smoke coming from passengers side under the engine cover at the egr, egr cooler. with a fire extinguisher handy i pointed it under the engine cover putting the fire out on that side but the diesel fuel from the burnt plastic hose spread to the other side catching that side on fire. fca after sending a rep. could not determined what caused the fire but they would except no responsibility for the fire. they also said that they were sure that i would understand that fires happens. well i don't!! with over 40 years as a auto service center owner i do understand that the eco diesel has a very serious fire problem on their 2014/2017 ram 1500 ecodiesel. this fire problem is totally different from the environmental class action settlement suit.
My truck caught fire while driving at 65 mph on the interstate on dec 23 2018. all gauges suggested normal operating parameters. the truck has 120k miles. it's a total loss. *dt *tr
Fca as the parent company to ram brands has issued a recall r51 for a known issue related to the ram 1500 ecodiesel using a 3.0l vm motori diesel motor. the recall is intended to cover all ecodiesel motors with a block heater. all vm motori engines are equipped from the factory with a block heater. however, only some trucks were shipped with a factory installed heater block cable, and only those with the cable code were flagged with the recall. however, all ecodiesel motors suffer from the same issue listed in the recall relating to cold weather operation below ambient freezing temperatures. after contacting fca, i was instructed to contact nhtsa to see about getting my vin number inserted into the recall, as all ecodiesel motors in this range sold in areas frequently below freezing require it. the recall text is available here: https://www.chrysler.com/universal/webselfservice/pdf/r51.pdf
Engine in the truck failed while driving down the highway, started loudly knocking and lost power, by the time i was able to get pulled over to the shoulder the cab of the truck filled with smoke, the smoke in the cab was thick enough that it was difficult to see. eyes were watering and was difficult to breath, the smoke was coming out from under the hood of the truck. i never saw flames but thought truck was on fire due to the amount of smoke so i had my family exit the truck as soon as we were safely on the shoulder out of traffic. the smoke eventually stopped. the dealer that the truck was towed to by roadside assistance indicated that there were currently more than 60 engines on back order in the us with no estimated delivery time on a replacement. there are a large amount of these eco diesel engines failing and some vehicles are catching on fire due to the engine failure causing oil to leak onto the exhaust and igniting. there are numerous reports of the same failure along with engine bay fires on a website dedicated to this particular truck and engine. https://www.ram1500diesel.com/
While driving on a city street, the truck lost all power and i started coasting to a stop. while slowing down, a loud clicking sound came from the engine bay and i got a "low oil pressure" warning message on the dash. as i was coasting to a stop, smoke started pouring out of the engine compartment and was coming into the cab through the vents. it smelled like coolant. i checked the oil level and it was good. all gauges were in normal temperature ranges. i took it to the dealer, and it is still under powertrain warranty. i have always had the oil changed on time. the dealer informed me that the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) cooler failed. they said it leaked into the intake and the intake needs to be replaced as well for a total cost of about $4500. ram said that the powertrain warranty does not cover it, which is absurd because the two parts are bolted to the engine and necessary for it to run. egr cooler failures are very common on ram 1500 ecodiesels, although ram does not acknowledge that there is an issue.
Am getting a p203e error message. took it to dealer. there is a defective level sensor located inside the tank. problem is its a sealed tank with no access only way to fix is to replace the entire tank, pump and sensor. very bad design flaw. $2600 to replace. message is saying engine will fail to start after 500 miles. the def pump is working correctly but the engine thinks its almost empty.
10/05/2018 driving down road and check engine light came on, 3 trips to dealer, 10/08/2018 after updating computer for recalls on 1st trip,10/18/18 replaceing exhaust manifold gaskets ($1188.00) 2nd trip, replaced plugs, after 3rd trip 10/22/2018 was told have bad lifters, $6500 to repair, valve lifters on backorder 4-6 months. service department said this is a very common problem for this hemi motor. truck has 136000 miles, out of warrenty. was also told that when replacement lifters do come in they are the same, not fixed, not upgraded, so the same thing can happen again. what do i do without a vehicle for 4-6 months?
My 2015 ram 1500 4x4 with ecodiesel began to lose power while driving on us31 so i pulled off on the next side street. at that point, smoke poured out of the vents and from under the hood into the cab. i stopped the vehicle and turned off the ignition and waited for the tow truck. dealer reports an egr valve cooler failure which then caused the intake manifold to crack
On 9/21/18 my husband was driving to the store down the interstate and his truck shut off causing him to coast to the shoulder. when he did he noticed some light smoke. he tried to pop the hood but it wouldn't pop so he got out and tried to see if it was caught and saw more smoke he looked underneath to see stuff dripping like melting from the engine compartment, at that time he went to walk around the truck to look for a fire extinguisher when he heard a loud explosion causing him to run back from the truck and call 911. in less than 5 minutes the entire truck was engulfed in flames and in the 25 it took the fire department to arrive the entire truck except the bed and rear tires were completely burnt down. 5 months prior to this the engine in this ecodiesel blew up while he was driving down the interstate and chrysler did an complete engine replacement on it under warranty and due to their fault. the new engine only had 10-15k miles on it and to replace this engine you have to take the entire truck apart like a lego cab and all. ram is not coming out with an ecodiesel in the 1500 in 2019 but chrysler is not owning responsibility for the truck almost killing my husband. the truck was in motion on fire and on the side of a highway when it burnt down. it was in motion and on an interstate when the first engine blew with only 84k miles on a diesel.
Metal fragments in the engine and i have been to two different dealerships for powertrain warranty for repeated and ongoing repairs since fall of 2018 the first dealership did not replace the engine when the metal fragments were found in my engine after a cylinder misfire 5 and 7 they continued with all kinds of repairs and did further damage to my entire truck. i have since taken to another dealership where i was told and given proof for my vin that i need an engine replacement but chrysler refuses to do it based on the powertrain warranty and stand behind the initial problem and what needs to be done (engine mark service manager . they decided to continue with part replacement after part replacement which is billed to chrysler under the powertrain warranty that i have on my truck. i believe they not only lied but committed fraud with all of these repairs. they could not even stop the oil from leaking each time they sent my vehicle home with me. i took it to billion in bozeman to have them look over for damages and see if my truck was properly repaired. i was told that i should have had an engine replacement due to metal fragments in the engine oil at the very beginning of the repairs. but butte decided to milk my truck and chrysler for hours and hours as well as parts that who knows if they really replaced them. they also damaged a handful of things on my truck that had to be repaired at billion dodge. i have never been treated or taken advantage of as butte mile high has done. in talking to others that know vehicle engine repair there were parts that do not break that they claimed broke, they also stated they honed a cylinder which would have required them pulling the engine and proper honing is all cylinders, not just one. they also cut pieces out of my basically newer truck (52,000) miles and left damages.
Truck engine caught fire without warning on the highway
Tl* the contact owned a 2015 ram 1500 eco-diesel. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and smoke appeared from the engine compartment. the vehicle became engulfed in flames. the vehicle was destroyed before the fire department arrived. a fire report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a storage lot and then to the contact's residence. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified and filed case number: 35040343. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Ecodiesel truck for the past 6 months shuts off randomly while driving, starting from a stop and when idling whenever fuel tank reaches 1/4 full or less. truck is difficult hard to start when at 1/3 fuel level. on june 28th 2018 after truck shut off on freeway brought it to the dealer and i was told there is nothing wrong and i need to keep the fuel tank greater than quarter tank fuel to prevent the truck from shutting off while driving. this is not a solution and it's very scary to be driving with a large trailer and your truck shuts off on the road.
