Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2006 Nissan Xterra

I was driving 35 mph on a busy street when my vehicle would not accelerate. i towed my car to nissan dealer and was told my trans was no good and it would cost 6,000 to 10,000 to fix. i contacted nissans consumer affairs and they said i did not qualify for any warranties. nissan told me there was no radiator fluid in my transmission which seems to be a common complaint. i towed my car for a second opinion and was told my trans does have radiator fluid in it and it also flooded my computer in the trans. why did nissan lie to me? i found that nissan did extend the warranty on the radiators and that an e-mail did go out to nissan owners stating they would also cover the trans if caused by radiator leakage to 80,000 miles but nissan told me i don't qualify because i am a second owner? still waiting on a response from nissan. this has caused a great hardship on me. *tr

The transmission in my vehicle began to slip. i had aamco and nissan investigate the problem and both companies determined that the coolant from the radiator had leaked into the transmission. this caused the vehicle to become inoperable. *tr

I was driving my 2006 xterra on the highway when there was a clunk and it started shaking violently. drove car to nissan dealership for diagnosis. dealership determined that it is a common problem - the radiator failed, leaking coolant into the transmission. both radiator and transmission were destroyed. nissan decided to not provide any assistance. unable to afford repair, so had to sell the vehicle as junk at a loss. *tr

Radiator fluid leaked into my transmission. this caused an entire shutdown of my transmission. i was told by nissan that it would take up to $5,000 to repair. the radiator fluid leaked due to a defect that nissan could have easily recalled and avoided. i have conducted research and found that thousands of other nissan owners have experienced the same problem and nissan is not willing to do anything about it. i was told that i would be responsible for the cost even though this could have been easily avoided by nissan manufacturers. *tr

My car actually is 8 years old and has approx. 105,000 miles, hence, does not fall under the settlement of class action suit ordering nissan to reimburse repairs. if i was under 100,000 mi, i would only have to pay a $3,000 deductible. because i had passed the 100,000 mile before the failure happened, i'm no longer eligible for this extended warranty. as in my case the radiator busted and caused the coolant to leak into the transmission which means that i now need a new radiator and a new transmission which is going to cost roughly $5,000 dollars to fix in which i cannot afford. i replaced the radiator & had the transmission flushed twice (cost nearly $1k) . this caused internal damage to transmission. i submitted a claim for out of pocket cost, never heard anything!! either way i would like to know if the problems are happening to vehicles until they go over 100k miles then why cap the assistance requirement?? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph the vehicle began to overheat. the contact shut off the vehicle but was unable to restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis where the contact was advised that coolant was leaking into the transmission. as a result, the transmission and coolant system would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 60,000.

Break in transmission cooling coil inside radiator caused coolant to flow into automatic transmission. transmission slippage at highway speeds caused vehicle to slow. loss of coolant in radiator caused engine overheating. result: vehicle undrivable at highway speeds, no acceleration due to slippage, costly replacement of radiator and transmission. *tr

The vehicle has a whining noise. when taken to the dealership, it was diagnosed as a worn down tensioner for the timing chain. if neglected it could cause engine damage and malfunction. the dealer claims the repair includes removing the tensioner and replacing with an upgraded part as they know the original part is faulty. nissan is aware of the issue and issued a service bulletin in 2009 ntb07-042a, but refuses to fix this part in their vehicles. this should be recalled! *tr

On june 7, 2012, nissan told me that my radiator failed causing my transmission to fail. i have 3 children ages 7 weeks to 5 yrs and count my self lucky that the problem was diagnosed before a potentially life threatening transmission failure on busy los angeles county streets or freeways. i was later appalled to find out that nissan knew of the issue, but covered it up as evidenced in a ny times article dated 8/24/2011. the service advisor at the dealer informed me that my car situation was an issue that he had seen before. i am now being told that it will cost me $4000 for my car to be repaired due to a known defective radiator that would have cost a fraction of that to replace. i am still without a car after 11 days. *js

Was driving my vehicle on the freeway and all of a sudden the vehicle began to lose speed. pulled off the freeway and the car would just roll. upon acceralting the vehicle the engine would just rev. took car to transmission shop and the mechanic advised me that the entire transmission was ruined due to radiator coolant being leaked into the transmission. prior to this i had the radiator inspected on several occasions in the last couple of years since the extended warranty had been placed on the vehicle and i had already surpassed the mileage of the warranty. the radiator showed no signs of wear and tear. *tr

Purplish fluid in radiator, took to dealer, transmission line inside radiator had broken and coolant had mixed with transmission fliud. paid $1300.00 to get new radiator, transmission fluid flush, radiator flush. *tr

My wife and i were driving on the freeway on may 13,2012 going for a short ride when all of a sudden the car transmisson stopped working.we were barely able to coast over the shoulder of the road.i had to have the xterra towed to my house being it was on a sunday. being on a california freeway on sunday evening and also mother's day is no fun.i felt the danger of the cars whizzing by.an interesting note on this subject is that the same thing happened to my son.he has a 2006 nissan pathfinder.his transmission went out because of water leaking into the transmission. the dealership repiaced his transmission and radiator at no charge to him.i figured this is what happened to my car.the next day i had it towed to the dealership where i bought the xterra.i told them the problem and im sure they know about this problem of water leaking into the transmission.i argued with them about fixing for no charge and they said they would send the paper work to nissan north america if that was the problem.he said it was on a case by case basis. i am waiting to see if nissan will approve it.if not my wife who paid for this car on her own who just finished paying for it last year will have to find 5 to 6 thousand dollars to fix a flaw in transmission line that should be a recall because that is a defective part that has happened to lots of nissan vehicles

Driving approx. 30 mph when the car stopped responding. i got it looked at, and it was determined that the transmission failed due to a failed transmission cooler which caused water from the radiator to back up into the transmission. *tr

My 21 year old daughter was driving our xterra in ellensburg, washington 260 miles in the desert when the car transmission stopped working! brought it for two reliable estimates and like all the others this is a cause from a defect in the radiator that obviously nissan has known about for quite a long time. do they need more bad press? i will be putting it on craigslist and any place else i can to include the back window of the truck. my daughter was stranded!!!! in the middle of a desert with no cell phone reception. does nissan want the liability of this? it's theres because they knew about the faulty power train and did nothing. i have added my name and filed a class action law suit against nissan for this problem that they fail to recognize. i don't get it at all. it's the error of nissan and they need to take responsibility for their mess! *tt

Transmission failure due to issue with radiator defect. radiator fluid leaked into transmission eventually caused catastrophic damage to transmission parts. power train failure occurred while on the freeway almost 30 miles from home. my personal safety was definitely in peril and only due to skill and luck was an accident averted. *tr

I was traveling to work that morning. i live on top of a mountain so i was going down a mountain. i started to hear a grinding sound between 40-60 mph. then the vehicle began to shake. when i would slow down it began to stop. i got to work and when the technician looked at vehicle he stated the coolant had mixed with transmission fluid. i am in the car business so i knew that this was major damage. i called a local nissan dealer and to my surprise learned that this is a well know issue with this vehicle. i am very upset and this could have caused a major accident being on a mountain and having the transmission go out. i have taken very good care of this vehicle and am very displeased with the service. i wrote a complaint to nissan north america and the only reply i received wa to tell me about an open recall on the vehicle. well since the vehicle can't be driven i guess that recall will have to wait. i did replace the radiator and flushed the transmission several times in hopes that it would save the transmission but so sorry to say i still have the shutter and vibration at 40 -60 mph. the extended warranty that nissan has come up with is a laugh! most complaint i have seen the consumer has problems well after 100000 miles and why should the consumer pay anything on a defected part that caused the damage. shame on nissan! *tr

Our xterra has the same defect that many other xterra owners have reported: the radiator leaked into the transmission causing the "strawberry milkshake of death" that destroys the transmission. *tr

We brought our nissan 2006 xterra in to the boardwalk auto center. redwood city, ca - nissan to have them check on what we thought was another transmission issue (nissan replaced the transmission, at their expense over $8000, once and the fuel gauge twice plus a couple of other recall items). when we picked up the car they told us we needed a new timing chain for about $2000 (we have heard these are not normal items to be replaced and should last the lifetime of the car). we can't believe there is yet another major expensive problem part with this car! when does this car become a lemon and how many major items are going to need to be replaced? what is happening to nissan? has the timing chain issue been investigated and how many other people are having this problem? *kb

Due to the reported defects in these vehicles? radiators, the interior components of the radiators (internal transmission coolers) break down allowing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. as a result of the contamination, the transmission and other drive train components are damaged and may require replacement. our investigation reveals that nissan typically denies warranty coverage for repairs caused by these defects even if the vehicle?s powertrain is still under warranty. *js

About 61k miles the transmission felt like it was dragging while i was traveling at highway speed. when i got home i took it to the shop. the local shop dropped the pan and said the fluid was ok. the dragging didn't come back after a fluid change. however, later on, at highway i occasionally felt a vibration that stopped when i took my foot off the gas. i later got notice of an extended radiator warranty to 80k miles, but it didn't say anything about a transmission problem. the antifreeze never looked low when i checked the radiator, there was nothing in the driveway, so i put the sticker from the mail from nissan on the manual and put it back in the glove compartment. on saturday 6/8/2013 service engine light came on. at that time the car seemed to ?drag?. it seemed to need to rev at higher rpm than usual to get going. at one point in stop and go traffic it wouldn't move forward for a minute, and i hit almost 4000 rpm before it moved forward, very sluggishly. i took it to the shop the next day, they told me to see a transmission shop, since a code "1754" came up, indicating a defective control unit within the transmission. the transmission shop told me i needed a radiator, control unit, since the defective radiator had contaminated the transmission with antifreeze. *tr

Coolant leaked from the radiator into the transmission and caused transmission failure. *tr

i was traveling on the interstate when my nissan xterra fell on it's face, so to speak. it was like i hit the brakes and thank god no one was directly behind me. a few short moments later it regained power and sounded like i was running on the rumble strips. it seemed fine for awhile but went to pull out in traffic and it just all but came to a stop and jumped forward suddenly. i all but made it home and pulled into my garage and with my foot on the brake it jumped forward almost taking out my wall. after talking to a few friends i knew the problem was from the transmission cooler going bad and mixing anti-freeze with transmission fluid. after researching i found i wasn't alone, hundreds of people have posted the same problems. after talking to my wife's cousin she had a nissan pathfinder with same tranny and when hers went out she lost control of her vehicle and went into the interstate median strip. i dropped it off and hamilton nissan today and nothing is probably going to be covered. i am upset because i was almost in an accident because of this. nissan has known about this for awhile but has done nothing. it is a clear safety issue when you just feel like you stomped on your brakes on the interstate, and pray someone doesn't hit you in the rear end. i have a 3 year old son and i don't feel safe having him in that trap. *tr

I was driving thru a intersection and my xterra lost the ability to go due to a faulty radiator assembly causing failure to the transmission the issue started at around 92,000 miles and nissan will not do a thing to fix it saying i am out of the extended coverage! well this is a a huge safety issue had it been a night me and my wife could have not been seen and had a very serious accident! *kb

My 2006 nissan xterra (purchased new in feb 2007) began occasional shuddering, as if driving over rumble strips, while driving at about 131,000 miles. if i let off the gas or accelerated, it would stop, but no constant trigger. this increased over a couple weeks so i decided to research online and found many users with the same issue. i took it to a mechanic and they couldn't get it to replicate. i left there and drove to trophy nissan in mesquite and they wouldn't look at it for another 1.5 days and only after i paid them an $85 diagnostic fee (to look at something that is there fault!) i decided to be proactive and replace the radiator and hoses, hoping to catch it early enough. i took it to a mechanic 2 days later. they said the rumbling was from a torque converter lock-up and we could do a flush but that may not fix it. so, we flushed it with 12 qts new nissan transmission oil. the problem seemed to stay the same over the next couple weeks and then the transmissions went out on my way home from work. so, now we get to replace the transmission. i called a transmission shop, (at this point i don't trust nissan or anything they say - since they can't even admit fault on this!) and they said this transmission is an expensive transmission (with it's computer etc.) so just to rebuild it is going to run $2500. nissan wants $4400+ just for a new part. this is ridiculous. this was very dangerous as mine completely went out when i was in the middle of an intersection. i am so disgusted at nissan and their lack of morals / values. if they would just do the right thing and fix the issue that is their own fault, then i think everyone would feel completely different. they need to stand behind the product they sell. as of right now, i will never buy a nissan again. why is there not a defect investigation with as many people that are having these issues? *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact was driving 65 mph when the vehicle overheated and stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the coolant and transmission fluid had mixed and as a result, the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was out of warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 99,000.

I am the owner of a nissan xterra i purchased back in feb 2006. i was happy to make my last finance payment in february. last week while driving home from work my car's check engine light turned on then started to overheat. later i found out my car was leaking a white substance which was difficult to get off my driveway. i was surprised since i regularly keep up with the maint and never had any problems in the past. i had my car towed to nissan in to find out what was wrong. the dealer informed me that the car had a leak and the coolant and transmission fluid began to mix to create the white substance which ruined my transmission. after doing some research online, i was disappointed to find out this was a common issue with the xterras and that nissan made a design change to fix it in later xterra models. told me that i needed to replace my transmission, radiator, upper/lower radiator hose. their initial estimate to fix my car was $8500. after i heard the number, i priced each of the parts out online for approx $1500. provided a new estimate for $5,500. because this was a known issue, i would have thought nissan would have done the right thing to fix it as part of a recall. when a person buys a car there is an expectation the car will last more than 5 years. it is unacceptable the extended warranty once you exceed 85,000 miles is no longer valid. because of the experience with the dealer and the quality of cars you provide, i will never purchase a nissan again. in addition, i am planning to share my nissan experience with online forums and friends about the quality of service nissan does not provide or stand by their products. if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. ex-nissan owner - information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

My daughter (17 years old) was driving the 2006 nissan xterra and the transmission went inoperable and the vehicle would not move. no warning and no indication of failure. nissan stated that the radiator leaked into the transmission and they would warranty it if it was under 80,000 miles. this vehicle has 87,000 miles and the dealer said that no warranty can be granted but they would be happy to take a $5000 charge to fix it. *kb

We have an 2006 nissan xterra and the radiator leaked into the transmission and caused a cross contamination. we had to replace the radiator and have the transmission rebuilt. we participated in the nissan class action lawsuit, but unfortunately we received a denial letter in the mail earlier this week because we were over 100,000 miles. i am highly disappointed with nissan for being so greedy and not taking responsibility over this issue. this problem happened to occur the winter of 2011 when i would go out to start the car and it would blow cold air and never heat up unless the car was running. if i was to sit at red lights the car would blow cold air again. that spring i noticed the car jerking and driving a little rough but didn't think much about it because we had just replaced the universal c joint back that prior fall. the summer of 2011 and at first i noticed the rpm's revving up but the car wouldn't go anywhere. then the air went out and would cool down the car. meanwhile i am driving my kids around in a car with no ac in 100 summer heat and humidity. eventually the car got so bad it wouldn't run. it would rev up but go no where. i finally took it into a shop when i noticed it leaking a reddish, brown/green fluid. come to find out there was cross contamination between the radiator and the transmission. i had been driving months with this car like this it really messed up my xterra. it cost me $4500 to fix this issue on top of many inconveniences. i't super disappointed in nissan for not recalling this faulty part they knew about. apparently a letter was sent out asking customers to bring the cars in to be checked. we never received this letter. all i want is nissan to fess up and pay hard working people back the money they owe them. my xterra was paid off and i had to sink $4500 into a 6 year old car. nissan has lost a customer for life. ill never buy another. *tr

I purchased my vehicle brand new in 2007 and have had it regularly maintained since this time. i was driving down the highway at about 60 mph, when the vehicle began to shake violently. i was in fairly heavy traffic and had difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle as i struggled to pull it to the side of the road. i had it towed into my local dealership who informed me that the radiator had cracked and coolant had worked it's way into the transmission. i am being told that i need to replace the radiator and transmission which will cost me $5500 in parts and labor. in addition to this, transmissions for this vehicle are on backorder and i must wait even longer for the repairs. of course, i have 95,000 miles on the vehicle and that means i am outside of the warranty coverage. my biggest complaint is that this problem is likely a manufacturer defect and seriously puts owners at risk of injury or even death. i wish nissan would be more accommodating in reimbursing the repairs and warning owners about this problem in the future. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra and driving my car it started driving like in neutral so i had my car towed and the shop told me there was a crack in the radiator hose that caused fluid to go into transmission and ruined it. i had my car towed to a nissan dealer and they said yes they knew about this and had issued an extended warranty to 80,000 miles my car has 100,000 miles on it so it wouldn't be covered. i felt since they clearly had a design flaw in the radiator hose connection that could cause the transmission to give out and be dangerous it should have been a recall issue. it shouldn't matter how many miles you have on the car it was a defective design by nissan and should have been corrected. all you have to do is search on the internet and you will find many many pages of complaints about this issue. i find it hard to believe that a car company could be aware of a design flaw that is more likely to occur than not but not stand behind the vehicle and take care of it regardless the miles. it is over $5,000 to fix and it is wrong for nissan not to have recalled this. why when it is repaired does the new radiator have a different hose connection?? because they know it was a defective design first time around. just wrong, i will never buy another nissan again. *kb

When i drive my 2006 nissan xterra and it hits around 2000rpms, or sometimes around 60 mph it starts to vibrate. it feels like it is coming from the rear but not sure. if i let off the gas a second it will go away. it doesn't do it all the time but often. i have had the tires checked and balanced. it feels like i am driving over rumble strips. *tr

My 2006 nissan x-terra transmission and radiator failed radiator cooling lines for transmission failed and leaked into transmission causing complete failure of transmission.$4,000 to repair. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra and noticed it was driving rough off and on. i took it into the dealership as there was a recall on the ecm relay and asked them to check the rough driving. i was called and advised that my radiator broke which caused fluid to leak into my transmission and would need to replace both. i was quoted $9200.00 which is unacceptable. i use my truck strictly for commuting, don't even use 4wd. the truck isn't even paid off yet. there is no recall on this, yet as i do research i have found that this is a common problem, yet nissan is doing nothing about it. i called aamco and was advised it would cost $2800-3200 for them to fix and that they see this with nissans way too frequently. my personal mechanic advised he can fix it for around that same price as well. i depend on this vehicle for getting to work and safely getting my children to school. what a let down for such an expensive purchase. *tr

My 2006 nissan xterra started shaking violently while driving at 40mph all of a sudden, to the point i thought i hit something or was dragging a branch, i stop to find nothing and kept on driving, and the cart did it again, so scared of going any faster and loosing control. i took it to the dealership and they informed me that due to a design flaw cracked radiators are causing coolant to leak into the transmission and mix with the transmission fluid. once the coolant (antifreeze) is in the transmission it kills the valves, seals and torque converter and eventually renders the entire transmission useless. it seems to be a common occurrence on '05-'06 xterra. but i was never informed nor other xterra owners. to correct this i have to replace the radiator & transmission at an outrageous price. although nissan hasn't conducted a recall or acknowledger there's a problem, they did extend the power train warranty from 60k to 80k. my vehicle has 94k miles, so i'm hoping my extended warranty covers it. this is very dangerous, imagine driving at 60mph and loosing control due to strong shaking. i just cant believe with the overwhelming amount of people complaining they haven't started a recall. *tr

I really do not know where to begin. my truck would not start 8/26/13. i learned that the dreaded radiator coolant leak had finally destroyed my transmission computer system and transmission. i first learned that this could become a problem in february of 2011 when my vehicle was at about 96,300 miles. the nissan dealership gave me a number to call, i did and was told at that time that i could pay $6000 out of pocket and possibly be reimbursed later as my vehicle vin was not in the current list of vehicles being offered the "special warranty coverage". i was given a case number and told i would be mailed information about all future matters regarding this problem. i did not have $6000 then, i do not have $3000 now. that is the amount of the deductible the nissan dealer says i would be responsible for paying if nissan honors the time i initially reported this problem to them. i need some help. my husband is active duty navy and i kept this vehicle serviced and did everything i was supposed to do to make sure this vehicle stayed in great condition and now i have a vehicle that is no longer working. i hope you can help us. *tr

My 2006 nissan xterra started shaking when driving at around 60mph. it would do this for 3-5 seconds as i sped up or slowed down. i was told by the nissan dealership that there was a leak between my radiator and transmission. i was also told that both needed to be replaced. my vehicle is at 91,000 miles and even though i purchased the extended warranty to 100,000 miles, i was told it would not be cover unless i provided paperwork showing i flushed the radiator at 30,000 and 60,000 miles. i was able to provide the paperwork and they still have not agreed to cover it under the warranty. *tr

A common problem with nissan pathfinder/xterra/frontiers equipped with automatic transmissions, is the radiator failing and leaking coolant into the transmission via a portion of the transmission system that passes through the radiator. this problem is most common with 2005 to 2008 model nissans. the first sign of this failure is a slight vibration at 40-50 mph when the vehicle shifts from 4th to overdrive (5th) gear. at this point the damage, apparently, has been done. in worst case situations the vehicles can fall into "safe mode" causing the vehicle's operator to lose control due to undesired transmission operation. by visiting many nissan owner forums and internet search engines, this is a wide spread problem for nissan owners. it has been my personal experience that nissan has made no offer of assistance for most customers with this problem. i feel that this problem is widespread and dangerous and is a design flaw by nissan and/or its parts vendors and should be corrected at no cost to vehicle owners. nissan should replace radiators on all models effected and should replace transmissions in any vehicles that have had this failure. *tr

My 2006 nissan xterra clutch went out at 42000 miles on a busy highway. i gad noticed a little slippage and was planning on taking it in went it went out. after towing to dealer i was told that it would cost $2400 to fix. the pressure pads were shredded and caused pressure plate and fly wheel to have to be replaced also. the pressure plate and fly wheel should have been under warranty. i was told were and tear so no help. this clutch is undersize for engine. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to independently decelerate until reaching 20 mph and would not travel over the speed. there was also a burning odor coming from the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the clutch was burned out. the dealer replaced the disc assembly, fly wheel and clutch. the failure did not recur. the failure mileage was 27,661 and the current mileage was 27,701.

Vehicle slowed down on the freeway, took almost full power to maintain 20 mph speed.burning smell in cabin accompanied the loss of power. vehicle towed to original dealer. after a day, he stated it was the manual clutch assembly. vehicle has 27661 original miles, this is the second manual transmission/clutch failure since i bought the vehicle new in 2007. first failure occurred after only 7954 miles. first time, the dealer said he didn't have to cover repair under warranty ( "wear" parts), but did it anyway because they believed there were no "driver" issues, ie., part failure, not driver mis-use. as an aside, my wife and i have been driving manual transmission vehicles for 40 years apiece, and never had this problem. this time, two months out of warranty, dealer claimed nissan would not cover the repair. $2100 later, i drove off the lot with a clutch pedal very much softer than when it was new. i test drove it with the repairing mechanic, he said he had adjusted the pedal play to factory spec, and the clutches should last 60-70000 miles (seems low to me-manual transmissions are usually bullet-proof with other manufactures ). mechanic replaced flywheel, clutch disc, cover assembly, bearing release and first shaft bushing. awaiting response to appeal for cost coverage from nissan. multiple clutch failures reported on the internet ( edmunds.com, facebook ) for same year/make. believe a poor design/parts manufacturer is the cause of these failures, nissan needs to recall and repair these vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle gradually lost power. the contact was able to merge to the side of the road. the vehicle was able to be restarted and was driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the issue. the failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

1: 2006 nissan xterra started having shifting problems and started leaking milky rainbow colored oil. 2: happens in first gear all the time now. took it in to shop when it started. 3: repair shop said it needs a new transmission because radiator has leaked into the transmission. $7000. got a quote for $5700 and will be taking it there tomorrow. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while on an incline facing upward and when the vehicle was in drive it will rolled backwards. the dealer informed the contact that it was a common feature on all their vehicles. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would exhibit abnormally, violent vibrations. the vibrations were more intense when the vehicle would shift into third gear. the contact further examined the vehicle and found transmission fluid leaking into the coolant system and coolant leaking into the transmission system. the dealer advised that the failure was common in his model vehicle yet there were no recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 73,000.

While traveling at a speed of 60, the vehicle began to shake. after new tires, rotation of the tires, new u-joints, it still shakes very bad. now i am told it is the "drive shaft" that is "warped" which is going to cost another $800. the garage has removed the drive shaft and now it does not shake. but i will need to replace in order for the 4 wheel drive to work. the vehicle has 72,000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank has fail. the fuel gauge does not accurately show the level of fuel that was left in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they can repair the vehicle at the contact's expense. there was a recall nhtsa# 10v075000; component: fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary but her vin was not included in the recall. at 32,000 miles the clutch failed on the highway when driving 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired at a cost of $1500. the manufacturer also stated her vin was not included in the recall and they will not cover the repairs of both failures. the failure mileage was 53,000.

2006 nissan xterra: steering column ("control unit") was defective causing shorts in break/turn lights, and most importantly, steering locking up in a turn, requiring me to fight to get the wheel to turn and avoid an accident. mechanic indicated that the parts vendor said they get this a lot with xterras! *tr

I bought a new nissan xterra from sloane nissan in 2006, after 70+ miles, the car vibrates at around 40mph while shifting automatic gear (i did not know why it was vibrating). finally aft 80+ miles, i took it to the dealer to only find out that the radiator blew the transmission. that is a shame, i just finished paying for the car and now i have to spend more money to fix it. it seems to be a very common problem with nissan xterra, pathfinder & frontier. the radiator is junk and needs to be recalled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was contamination of radiator fluid and that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was unavailable.
