We have classified the 93 complaints from 2008 Nissan Rogue about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rouge. while driving approximately 30 mph, all of the air bags in the vehicle deployed independently. there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Airbag lights won't turn off. also vehicle loses power in middle of intersection sometimes...consumer email reply on 9/3/2015: "it hasn't been diagnosed yet. the airbag light blinks off and on and passenger side airbag doesn't work"....updated 09/22/15 *bf
My airbag light started flashing and when i had a passenger riding in the front seat, the airbag sensor would never go to on. this is a huge safety issue being this means the airbag will not deploy- ever- because it does not ever sense someone sitting there. there was a recall of my exact make and model but of course not my vin#. now, the state of hawaii will not let me pass my safety inspection- because they are very well of the safety concern of the airbag not deploying. so i take it to the dealership who tells me i have to replace the seat cushion- to the tune of over $2000! i wrote to nissan corporate who basically told me to shut up and stop complaining. this is a joke & i am certain we will just have to wait for someone to die before nissan is actually held responsible. now i have a vehicle that i can no longer drive since my state has deemed it unsafe- or my other option is to pay 1/3 of what the car is worth to fix a problem that is already known & there are 100s of complaints. i hope you guys move this along because i still have to make a car payment on a car i cannot drive, pay over $2000 to replace the whole seat, or pay it off and junk the car, since i cannot sell an unsafe vehicle that won't pass a safety inspection. none of these options are exactly great for me. this is completely unfair to consumers & seems more like a way for nissan dealerships to increase profits. i hope you move quickly on this before innocent lives are taken by a known faulty airbag sensor. not to mention, i only have 30 days to either pay the $2000 to fix the problem or to junk my car without having to pay penalties! i'm glad my own state can seem this completely unsafe but no recall has occurred? what if i fix it- will i be reimbursed if there finally is a recall? this has put me in such a terrible place! please help!

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. the contact mentioned that the air bag warning light continuously illuminated. the contact did not disclose if a police report was filed or not. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000( air bags). the failure mileage was 100,000.
Airbag dash light started flashing within 5 seconds of a strange pop/crack sound that came from the dash area. local nissan dealer currently has the car, and has informed me that the airbag control module is bad. the estimated cost of the replacement with labor is over $1,100. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spiral cable needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000. updated 02/11/15*lj updated 3/24/15*cn updated 9/20/2017*cn
The airbag light on dashboard came on. i have tried to reset a few times but it will not reset. dealer wanted $130 to diagnose even though this problem occurred right after i had them fix another recall. don't know if related or not. dealer claims it isn't. email reply from the consumer (sept 2, 2015): "i didn't repair it. the horn did not work but i sold the car."...updated 09/22/15 *bf the consumer has since sold the vehicle. updated 10/01/15*jb
2008 nissan rogue airbag dashboard light signaled there was a problem on the dashboard. dealer (nissan chesapeake, located in chesapeake, va) stated the airbag diode was completely defective and the airbags could no longer deploy. since the car had 62,300 miles on it, nissan would not offer any warranty or financial assistance on the $1,400.00 bill to replace the diode. dealer customer service representative was embarrassed that such a part was defective at such low mileage. *tr
I have been requesting nissan replace the seat cushion in my rogue since they inspected it in 2015. they have refused. now i see there is a recall, air bag occupant classification system (ocs), and i have never been notified and do not see my vehicle in the recall notifications!!!!! i needs my seat cushion replaced, or the air bag sensor will not activate the airbag in a collision. i have been the only owner of this vehicle.
Shortly after purchasing a used 2008 nissan rogue the airbag light came on. from researching the matter online, it seems that many 2007-2008 nissan vehicles were recalled for a faulty sensor in the passenger seat that cannot detect when anyone is sitting in that seat - in other words, not an issue with the airbag but with the seat sensor. however, the dealership we purchased the used vehicle from says our vin number is not included in this recall, although our issue matches what is described in the recall and pertains to our year vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, another vehicle rear ended the contact's vehicle causing him to crash into a second vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 105,000. the vin was not available.
As reported by many other 2008 nissan rogue owners, the passenger side airbag sensor light was flashing, indicating a non-functional airbag (the entire airbag system, driver's side included, we found out later). this particular vehicle was not one of the 200,000+ vehicles recalled (08v521000) for the very same issue with the ocs (occupant classification system). the only fix, according to the dealer (and the subsequent multiple calls to nissan consumer affairs), is to replace the entire passenger side seat. this is a safety issue because: 1) the passenger side sensor disables the entire airbag system, and 2) a very expensive fix ($1800-$2500) is required for a safety system sensor. in light of the nearly 1 million nissan vehicles recently recalled (2014) for the exact same issue, the recall really should have applied not only to those initial 200,000+ vehicles, but all those vehicles with the same sensor system that they still have not gotten right. this is poor engineering at it's best! *tr
I have called the nissan recall line to put a complaint on my nissan, rouge, recall no. ntb08-095a and did not want to accept my claim since they state that my vehicle does not apply under this recall. my vehicle has this specific defect with the air bag and nissan has stated clearly that they are wanting to fix this air bag (ocs) problem. this is a major safety issue that my vehicle has, on the passenger side air bag being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash. i am overly concern that if i do have an accident that i am not protected any of my family members will be hurt, i would like the nhtsa to advice me what i can do since this has been a recall that i have looked it up in the recall site of the nhtsa. thanks, *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the air bag sensor illuminated. the dealer stated that the front passenger side cushion assembly needed to be replaced. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 44,900. updated 10/28/2014*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. a passenger seat was purchased from the salvage to complete the repairs. updated 04/21/2015 *js
Air bag light started blinking out of nowhere. didn't think much of it because my sentra did this before too, but stopped. finally brought it in because it wasn't going off and told by mechanic that there is a short in the spiral cable that will not deploy air bag. electrical shorts can also cause fires. nissan is refusing to fix it because it is not a current recall and we are just past warranty now - even though it started pre-expiration. this is not an issue affected by maintenance or anything we could've done wrong. it causes a safety issue in terms of fire and air bag deployment. additionally, i was able to see many people with the same problem on the web. unfortunately, they are all using a trick to get the light off, not realizing the air bag will not deploy if in an accident or car can start on fire.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated while an adult passenger was seated in the front seat, the air bag sensor light illuminated indicating that the air bag system was off and that the air bags would not deploy if a crash occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the occupant classification system located in the front passenger seat was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the nhtsa campaign number 08v521000(air bags, electrical). the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the identical failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 103,000.
Air bag light is flashing nissan has had recall but say not my vin but the problem is the same as the other recall. *tr
My airbag starting flashing after a oil change and tire rotation, call dealership was told how to reset it .the next day it came back on ,i tried to reset again it would not reset, called dealership today told them i found recall online, was told my vin number was not included in recall, not sure what to do now. *tr
Air bag light came on, and remains on. i took the vehicle to the dealer, and they said it would cost $1,800 to repair, an indicator in the passenger seat was not working. i did ask about recalls, and they stated there were none. it seems there may have been a recall under nhtsa campaign number 08v521000. however, my vin was not included in the recall because "the part was manufactured at a different plant". i believe as the same part is malfunctioning in the same vehicle recall, it was also manufactured incorrectly, and nissan north america should repair it as a part of that recall. *tr
I was driving down the interstate when my airbag warning light started flashing, and the "airbag off" indicator lit up for the passenger side airbag. after doing some research i discovered that this problem was possibly related to the ocs sensor malfunctioning, and that this was a known issue with a recall (08v521000). i called the recall center and was told that my car was not covered under this recall, and that i should take my vehicle to the dealer. i took my car to the dealer on 10-2-13 for them to run a diagnostic. was informed that in fact, the ocs had gone bad; but again told that it was not covered under the recall, and would cost $2819 to fix. i have since escalated my case to the regional level, given that my car has less than 50k miles, was purchased brand new, and a sensor should last well beyond that! i was told by the regional office to submit a complaint, and that they will further research my situation. *tr
I noticed air bag light flashing in dash panel about a month ago. had the car serviced at firestone, suggested i take it to a dealer. i also noticed the passenger seat air bag sensor says "pass airbag not on" even when i have a passenger. i did a computer search to see what the problem could be (possibly minor, take it to autozone). unfortunately, there are quite a few rogue owners that had the same issue, and also saw a recall (08v521000). when i phoned nissan north america, they said my rogue was not in the recall because it was manufactured "elsewhere". i took it to the dealer, who gave me an estimate of $1,800 to repair!!!!!!! are you kidding me??? i believe it may have been manufactured "elsewhere", but the defective part was made at the same place, and should be covered under the recall. i have owned this vehicle since i got it from the dealer at the beginning of 2009. no accidents. i'm the owner and driver." *tr
Airbag occupancy sensor error. *tr
The car was not in an accident. the airbag indicator light had come on so i took the vehicle to andy mohr nissan in avon indiana to have it checked. the shop diagnosis was that the front passenger seat airbag sensor had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. evidently, the sensor is imbedded in the bottom seat cushion requiring the replacement of the cushion. without replacement, the airbag will not engage. the estimated cost of repair was over $3,200, and the car had just fallen out of warranty by 350 miles. the cost of this seat cushion including labor is roughly one-third of the value of the vehicle. through an internet search, i found out that there was a recall on these 2008 rogues for this very problem. i contacted the dealership and was told that they would look into it. i later received a call informing me that although these vehicles were recalled, our vin number did not show up in the recall. i find it hard to believe that the one problem that we have had with this car is the same as those recalled, but ours is not on the list. this puts us in a no win situation. first, it makes the vehicle dangerous. second, we cannot afford to spend one third of the value of the car to fix this safety issue. third, it kills the resale value of the car since we will have to make any potential buyer aware of the issue. *tr
Twice during april 2014 my 2008 rogue was at the dealer to diagnose why passenger airbag light would not shut off. was told by dealer that the code was in the past tense and they could not do any diagnostic testing since it was not an active code (b1018). without doing any testing, i was told that to fix the problem they would need to replace the passenger front seat cushion ($2,500). was told that nissan recall 2008-10-07 did not apply to my vehicle. filed a complaint with nissan usa consumer affairs on 4/22/14 and requested that my vehicle be included in the recall since nissan is aware of problems with airbags in the 2008 nissan rogues. nissan refused my request and stated that airbags are secondary safety equipment and they would not fix the defect since seat belts are considered the primary safety feature. at this point i don't know if my airbag system is even operational since the light remains illuminated. nissan has issued recalls on the rogue and other models for defective airbags so i think the problem is impacting more vehicles than they realize and i don't feel i should be paying out of pocket to repair. what more can i do to get nissan to step up and fix the problem? *tr
Problems with 2008 nissan rogue.....airbag light flashing on dash. cannot reset. needs new airbag control unit....$1200. transmission making bizarre sounds and not engaging properly. a/c not working ...compressor, evaporator and control module need to be replaced...$3000??????? *tr
I own a 2008 nissan rogue which i purchased new. the air bag warning light has recently started blinking on the instrument panel. the dealer told me that it was a failure of the occupant passenger sensor. there was a recall on the same model year for the same issue (campaign id number: 08v521000) but the dealer told me that my vin was not included. the failure listed in the recall is the exact same failure experienced in the vehicle. then the dealer told us that it would cost around $3000 to repair!!! we have contacted nissan but so far they have not agreed to do anything. since day one, the passenger sensor has always been erratic and often would not work when a passenger was in the seat. we mentioned it to the dealer numerous times but they never agreed to fix it. now the entire airbag system in the car in not functioning and is creating a safety hazard. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the ocs unit would need to be replaced. later the contact was informed of a recall for nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags , electrical system) but the dealer stated that the mileage was too high to honor the recall. the manufacturer was notified who stated the same. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 112,000.
The airbag light is flashing in the console. i failed inspection because of that. *tr
Nhtsa campaign id 08v5210000 was issued recalling the 2008 nissan rogue for a faulty airbag sensor. why when i own a 2008 rogue, and the dealer has confirmed the ocs control unit faulty & now has failed, is nissan not responsible for replacing it at their cost? they tell me it is because only a certain supplier was recalled even though they know the same part is the one that is faulty in my 2008 rogue. this is a very serious issue and it was recalled on my make & model but because my vin # was not included in the recall (i.e. not enough people complained), they refuse to offer any financial assistance to fix this issue. i have a 16 year old daughter who rides in the passenger seat for 50 miles to/from school everyday. this repair is $2500! it is a faulty part & nissan needs to be held responsible for replacing all parts that are deemed faulty and fail. i informed nissan that (heaven forbid) if i get into an accident & my daughter flies out the front windshield because of a faulty airbag sensor, you better believe it is on record & a lawsuit will be filed. nissan is fully aware of this issue, as is your organization. but unfortunately you limit these recalls for the benefit of the big corporations instead of the safety of the people.

2008 nissan rogue air bag indicator light. dealership says passenger side occupant sensor is bad. currently not covered by any recall. *tr
Nhtsa previously conducted a recall on 2008 nissan rogues for problems with the passenger seat sensor not connecting properly with the srs, making the srs indicator flash and rendering the passenger airbag useless. i purchased my rogue used a little over a year ago, and when the problem arose, checked your database to find if there was a recall. the nissan customer service folks tell me that my vin is not associated with the recall. a brief search on google hoping to help me figure out how much this repair would cost, indicates that i am not the only rogue owner affected by this. i wonder if the recall was sufficiently broad. it is possible that this malfunctioned on its own, but wanted to make you aware. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated constantly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who removed the air bag from the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,539.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was constantly flashing. the passenger side air bag light was also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire passenger seat sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. updated 08/17/16*lj the consumer was quoted a price of $ 1800. also, the tire pressure gauge never worked properly. when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, for the problem, they would simply overfill the tires, until the flashing sensor would go out. updated 08/22/16. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer after locating nhtsa recall campaign id number: 08v521000 (air bags) and was informed that the vin for the vehicle was not included in the recall. the contact believed the failure listed in the recall was the exact same failure experienced in the vehicle. the failure mileage was 41,974 and the current mileage was unknown.
I have tried several times to get the airbag, or airbag warning light, fixed. after owning the rogue for a couple of years ( i bought it new), the airbag light began flashing in the car. when i took it to nissan, they said it was a faulty sensor in the seat and it would take several hundred (i recall it being over $500, but it's so long ago i may be wrong)to fix it. i thought that too much, but when the takata recalls began, and people began to die, i became more concerned. i live in hawaii, which is very hot and humid. the reality is either the sensor or the airbag has not worked properly from nearly the time i bought the car new. it's obviously faulty, and possibly dangerous. i feel the manufacturer should fix it.
My wife and i leased a 2008 nissan rouge two years ago. an issue has since transpired. in october of 2009 we noticed that the passenger airbag light occasionally goes on regardless of the size of the person sitting there. this light indicates that the airbag is off. we took it to nissan and they could not duplicate the problem. over this last year the issue continues to arise. i decided to take the vehicle in this past monday with a routine check. prior to my dropping the vehicle off i decided to record it on my phone as we were driving seeing as though i could not bring the car to the dealership as soon as it was happening. after the car was there for a few hours, i got a call back saying that there is nothing wrong with the car and they are ready to release. i am still not comfortable driving the vehicle so i left it there and call customer affairs. finally after 4 days, they returned my call. they indicated that they spoke to the shop and are not authorizing any repairs or paying for the rental vehicle as they could not duplicate the problem. they are refusing to fix this issue and are saying that my 125 lb wife may be too light to activate the bag sensor. *tr
The current airbag fault is the exact same as the late model rogue seat cushion switch fault recall, but our model vin is not included in the recall. we were stone walled at car pro's burien nissan in washington state. they were happy to offer a $2000 fix even though it happened after only 8k miles. we were appalled at their callous disregard for our safety especially since we bought it brand new. it was a little while before we were able to able to get it into the dealer due to heavy business travel at the time. basically we have been forced to drive around a car without functioning airbags for years now while waiting for the recall to extend to our vehicle!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving 30 mph, the tire pressure and air bag warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ocs sensor and air pressure sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving approximately 35 mph on an ice covered road, the contact depressed the brake pedal to avoid rear ending the preceding vehicle. she crashed into another vehicle and the vehicle sustained major front end damage. the radiator was punctured and the air bags failed to deploy. there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. the current and failure mileages were 12,500.
On november 5, 2008, i started my 2008 nissan rogue. both side air bags deployed. i called love nissan, where i purchased the vehicle. they sent a wrecker to pick up my vehicle. they ordered parts and replaced the following components: air bag diagnostic unit, 2 side air bag modules, 2 front seat belt assemblies, headliner, and center garnish finishers. they told me the board in the diagnostic unit was bubbled and they probably would never know what caused this. previous to this incident, i took my vehicle back for the following reasons: purchased vehicle november 5, 2007. on november 15, 2007, i took it back to the dealership due to the air bag warning light. a diagnostic test was performed. diagnostic: no codes found or stored at this time, test drove, rechecked codes, no problems found at this time. on january 19, 2007, returned to the dealership because of the same problem. diagnostic test: no dtc stored in system. at this time all working properly. test drove. ok. on january 22, 2008, returned to the dealership due to the same problem. dealership ordered and replaced: air bag diagnostic control unit, passenger side air bag sensor, and bottom cushion frame assembly. i am afraid to drive this vehicle not knowing if the air bags will deploy again while i am driving. this would cause me to wreck. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that since purchasing the vehicle, when a person was seated on the front passenger seat, the 'passenger air bag off' message illuminated on the dashboard. the contact was concerned that the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash. the contact took the vehicle to darcars chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram of rockville in rockville, maryland numerous times for diagnostic testing, but the contact was informed that the air bag message was normal. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 10.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving 30 mph, the contact was involved in a front end crash. neither the front or side air bags deployed. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. it was undecided as to whether the vehicle was destroyed. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the current and failure mileages were approximately 12,800. updated 02/05/09 *bf updated 02/09/09. *jb
Got into a car accident going less than 30 miles per hour. cause over $6,000 worth of damage. the car was in the shop for over 2 months; waiting on parts for a band new car currently in mass production. had to replace both air bags, both driver and passenger seat belt, bumper, head lights and most of the front of the car. *tr
With approximately 500 miles on my new 2008 nissan rogue, the passenger air bag light starting flashing. it was determined on december 26, 2007 that i needed an airbag control module. the part is out of stock and is on back order. current estimated release date of the replacement part is january 4, 2008. in the interim, my car is just sitting in the dealers service lot awaiting repair. i have been unable to use my car, other than drive it back to the nissan dealer since december 17, 2007. *tr
