In stop and go traffic, the air conditioner had the sweet smell of maple syrup and a few minutes later the check engine light came on. within seconds, the car stuttered each time i attempted to accelerate. once out of traffic, i looked and saw a large amount of coolant dripping from the car. the car was towed to the dealer who confirmed coolant built up pressure in radiator, hoses and transmission. cvt transmission is flooded with coolant and water, radiator and all hoses will need replacement. *tr
Muffler rotted out and had to be replaced. *tr
I am the 'second' owner. the vehicle was gifted to me by my son. it passed the autocheck vehicle history report. i received the vehicle 5/11/13. failure mileage is approximate. when starting engine huge amount of white smoke exits the 2 exhaust pipes engulfing entire vehicle. this happened continually every time i started engine. contacted nissan consumer affairs directly & was referred to dealership. my son spoke directly with dealership service department. the required 30,000 maintenance was performed. after 1 week dealership recommend new engine. i was 6 months past the warranty date, but nissan refused to honor it as i was a second owner. per my son's instructions dealership removed spark plugs to soak tops of pistons. let soak over night. performed a leak down test to find all the cylinders with 60% or more leakage from rings and valves, removed oil & performed 2 engine flushes, cleaned all oil out of intake maniford, reinstalled plugs, changed oil again, performed multiple road tests. preceding service included replacing engine air filter. performing idle learning procedure. fuel system serviced, cleaned fuel injectors & throttle body. removed all build up from throttle chamber & plate. performed fuel system service and 6 cyl tune up/6 22401-ew61c plug-sparks. serviced complete coolant system. serviced automatic transmission, exchanging fluids in case up to 6 quarts. performed front & rear differential fluid exchange. dealership kept vehicle 3-4 weeks, however problem still exists although intermittently.
Head gasket leaking. *tr
We own a 2009 nissan murano sl bought new and the head gasket cracked leaking fluids and emitting a strong smell of coolant. we have had a few unpleasant repairs, new brakes at 30,000, new tires at 32,000 and now at only 57,000 miles cracked head gaskets. we have had all the recommend services performed. had we waited we just would need to get use to the smell of coolant. it was covered under the warranty. both the nissan dealer and an independent shop confirmed the need to replace both head gaskets. the engine needs to be dropped in order to complete the repair. we have been waiting a week for the completion of the repairs. many reports show that their murano just was not the same after the head gasket issue and we don't want to have another failure and find out what will happen when it our nissan turns 60,001....our concern is the number of murano's that this known defect affects. nissan has yet to release this proprietary information. *tr
I own a 2009 nissan murano s . it comes with push button "start/stop" engine (not to be confused with the "intelligent system". to start the engine, you must have your foot on the brake, put the key fob in the slot, and push the start/stop button..... the danger is when you park the car in your garage...and forget to push the start/stop button to turn the engine off... because this technology is new, the instinct is to pull the key fob out and get out of the car... the engine remains on and it is quiet enough that you do not notice the engine running... the danger is that carbon monoxide can fill up your garage and house and kill the inhabitants... i contacted nissan via email. they had a tech. review my complaint and responded as follows "don't forget to push the button to turn the engine off"... obviously they do not get the danger... i hope you do. *tr
