We have classified the 72 complaints from 2003 Nissan Murano about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
On 4/8/15, while about to make a left turn at a traffic light, my car stalled without any warning. started up after two attempts. service engine light came on and has remains on currently. contacted nissan specialist on a website who advised it could be crank position and/or camshaft sensor(s). i took it to firestone to have it scanned. positive for codes p0725(engine speed signal circuit malfunction) and p0340(camshaft position sensor circuit failure). purchased my vehicle in august 2003. never notified by nissan of recall for sensors(nhtsa #03v4550000). called local dealership on 4/9/16 who advised me that my vin number is not on the list for my vehicle to be repaired, despite having the same complication identified by nissan and nhtsa which necessitated the recall. in addition, letter written by thetechnical compliance department of nissan to the nhtsa, dated 12/4/03, clearly states that my car is included in the list of recalled vehicles. no updated letter or other public information found stating that certain vin numbers are required to have car repaired. this is a gross safety issue and i am not clear as to why they are refusing to service my vehicle as per the recall. please address. thank you. *tr
On 6/15/15, while on highway my car stalled without any warning. started up after few attempts. service engine light came on and remained on. i scanned for error code and i've got p0340 (crank position and/or camshaft sensor(s)). on 6/26/15 i took the car to hilton head nissan dealer in hardeeville, sc - they scanned it positive for code p0340(camshaft position sensor circuit failure) and they replaced the two sensors. they never told me about nissan recall for sensors (nhtsa #03v4550000). i found today about this recall and called nissan dealer on 6/27/16 - they told me the car is to old to apply the recall, despite the fact that nissan murano 2003 is specified on the recall and despite having the same complication identified by nissan and nhtsa which necessitated the recall. in addition, letter written by the technical compliance department of nissan to the nhtsa, dated 12/4/03, clearly states that my car is included in the list of recalled vehicles. no updated letter or other public information found stating that certain vin numbers are required to have car repaired. this is a gross safety issue and i am not clear as to why they refused to service my vehicle as per the recall and i had to pay for sensors replacement. please address. thank you. *tr

I was driving my nissan murano going 45mph when suddenly the engine light flashed, the air went out, and the car shut off. i was pressing the gas but it wouldn't do anything and it suddenly shut off. i've been to several shops that can't find a problem so they told me about the recall on the 2003 nissan murano. they think it's maybe electrical or engine cooling. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the cam shaft position sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000. updated 10/23/13*lj the consumer was informed his vin was not included in the recall.
My truck would not turn over one morning, once i finally was able to get it cranked it went about a mile down the street ang just shut off. no warning, just shut off. *tr *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician replaced the air intake manifold. after the vehicle was repaired the failure recurred. nhtsa recall campaign number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling) could be related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 124,000. *tr
While driving on a major freeway i began to hear my cvt transmission making a loud winding noise that sounded like a turbine engine revving up and then my engine light came on. after i noticed something was wrong, the vehicle went from 65mph to 15mph during extremely heavy high speed traffic and then i was not able to accelerate which brought the vehicle to a complete stop on the freeway. the vehicle constantly does a bunny hop in heavy stop and go traffic which almost caused me to rear end another car because of the sudden surge of acceleration. this has been an ongoing issue since i purchased the car and is now becoming a serious safety issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the check engine warning light would sporadically flash. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the crankshaft position sensor failed. the manufacturer also advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 107,000 and the current mileage was 113,000. *tr
The "service engine soon" warning light has come on several times since i purchased my 2003 nissan murano. when in slow traffic or the engine has warmed up, when i press on the accelerator the car will not pick up speed, unless i depress it to the floor board. i'm terrified that i will be hit from the rear while waiting for my to get engine power. doing my research online i noticed there was a recall nhtsa campaign id # 03v455000) for this exact problem on this year, make and model. i called nissan with my vin # and was told that my vin# was not included in this recall. i'm very frustrated with nissan at this point. i don't understand how if my car is doing the exact same thing as described in the recall, same year, make & model, why they would take a chance in the safety of me as well as my family. is there anyone or anything else that i can do in order for nissan to honor this recall since it was have a direct effect on the safety of my family, myself and other drivers if it was to cause a crash as they describe in their recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. the dealer advised the contact that one of the five catalytic convertors was faulty and needed replacement. the contact did not have the catalytic convertor replaced. the failure mileage was unavailable.
Nhtsa recall campaign 03v455000: camshaft position sensor failed; called nissan and was told my vin is not included in the list of recalled vehicles, even though symptoms are the same. *tr
My nissan murano was a brand new 2003 it is now 8 years old with 46015 miles. the nissan service department in nh cared for my vehicle regularly; my first problem occurred when the engine started sending out black smoke, i fought for nissan to take responsibility for what was happening to my vehicle, they did; it took six to eight weeks to get the oil smell flushed out of the air conditioner. i understand wear and tear but, major engine faults happening so soon; nissan claims being the top vehicle manufactures. one of the many reasons i bought their brand. i did everything they said to keep my vehicle functioning; then it happened again; the rear powertrain reached its end, and oil leaking in the engine, the piston ball bearings is broken; and now the oil is leaking out. the average miles driven per year is 12000; my vehicle average 1500-miles yearly. i cannot nor will i battle over the 60 months/100,000 miles warranty contract; i am appealing to nissan corporation saying, look and see in my case my vehicles? problems are unique; see the oddness of an engine with only 46015 miles having such major problems. see my maintenance records, it was not due to neglect, look at the first time i had a major problem with this engine very early in the first two years of owning it. the engine and components are faulty; i just got a bad make. a feedback card came in my mail it says, ?as a valued nissan customer, your satisfaction throughout your ownership experience is our company?s highest priority?? so, then why hide behind the expired warranty? i was told, even if the nhtsa force a recall and nissan found i am the cause, the nissan board would willfully recall vehicles from 2004 up, to spite me or, single out the specific problems i now have repair them ignoring the vehicle?s young engine is completely faulty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall without warning. the vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer as needing a new crankshaft position sensor, but the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number:03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was 87,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.
Engine stalls while driving or upon moving from a stopped position (street light, stop sign). problem found to be faulty camshaft position sensor. there is a recall for this (r3022/03v-345) but my vin doesn't fall within the range. perhaps this issue is more widespread. *tr
Driving 60 mph when vehicle suddenly stopped running. brake and engine lights came on. was unable to get off roadway and other vehicle had to turn sharply to avoid hitting me. this was the first incident. have had two incidents since. *kb
When you come to a complete stop and then press the accelerator down the car does not move initially. if you hold the accelerator down after a few seconds the car will start to move. this has happened 4 times in the last 8 months after driving the car for about 20 mins. i have called nissan dealership in warner robins, ga but no assistance because the warranty ran out...i just purchased this vehicle jan 2011, they had to put in a brand new transmission a week after i purchased it but i was told months later the warranty ran out so i would have to pay for diagnostic check and this particular murano was not under the recall for cvt. i find that hard to believe because all the posts i've read regarding this exact same problem received some form of mail regarding a recall of some sort. today 3/25/12 my car hesitates to start. *tr
Vehicle had new brakes - disks and pads added in early may 2011. july 29 2011 driving 20 + mph the vehicle started to sound like it had a flat tire. immediately took vehicle to the shop, glancing at the car, mechanic said may be a tire rod, but wanted to look at it more in depth. he stated that the noise was coming from something loose or cracked in the transfer case. he advised me that at some point transfer case will bust and all 4 wheels will lock up. he quoted me at least $2500 for repair. the location of the transfer case makes it very difficult to repair or service. why will nissan not stand behind this product. there is no rust on the vehicle, but with 150,000 miles on it now, is it worth the money to repair? i have already replace the intake manfold which cracked in november. what will be the next part to break - the engine itself? love my murano, but the company should back their product. my murano has been driven short distances a few times since because i do not want to be on the highway when my "4 tires lock up". *tr
Tl* the contact owns a nissan 2003 murano. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the crank shaft position sensor failed. the manufacturer would not assist with the repairs because the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.
While driving on the toll road in houston, my vehicle lost speed and power going up an overpass, and luckily i was able to pull off to the shoulder before complete loss of power. the check engine light came on prior to this event. i was able to crank the engine but it would not start. my passenger needed medical assistance due to the heat (100 degrees), and my vehicle had to be towed to the nissan dealer. this dealer indicated a dtcode p0340, cam sensor and crank sensor failure, and repairs totaled $765.93. researching this failure, i learned that there was an earlier recall of my exact vehicle for this failure, but my vin was not included in the recall. after searching the internet, i discovered many, many other owners of 2003 muranos with vin numbers outside of the recall are experiencing the exact same problem as the recall. here's a link to just one of several sites: http://www.thehappyrock.com/2007/11/15/have-your-car-fixed-for-free-auto-recalls-and-my-2003-nissan-murano/ calls to nissan usa, requesting they consider a recall of my vehicle, were denied. i am requesting via this complaint that the recall of 2003 muranos be expanded to include all vehicles with the failure code(s) relating to the cam sensor/crank sensor. the problem is a faulty weld, and although nissan denies a relationship between their earlier production failures and my auto's failure, there is a definite problem with their weld. i feel fortunate that i did not have my children in the car, and that i was able to steer to the side of the road on the tollroad before stalling. with the average tollroad speed well over 70 mph, my safety and the safety of my passenger was in question due to the location of the breakdown. i hope this never happens to anyone with young children or elderly passengers in the vehicle.
Nissan murano 2003. 3 major problems. 1- sudden loss of power after driving and stopping (for example trying to make left turn of a traffic light.) car does not response and move very slowly. (serious life threatening ) problem exist since has 65,000 fixed at 72000 miles and recurred after 5000 miles. (when car turned off and on it will work fine for few minutes). when the car has around 62000 i took it to original dealer and for the loss of power problem and the service manager claimed that the car has no oil. but the sensor of the oil never showed low on oil 2- car stops all the sudden for no reason. then when try to turn on again it works fine for few weeks then problem repeat again. 3- car jerks so bad few times at speed 35 - 45 miles an hour and then check engine shows. after few days jerks again and the engine light goes off. i believe the first 2 problem are too dangerous and might be a life threatening . *tr
The murano seat frames are known to have a weak spot where the weld will break -causing your drivers seat to rock back and forth - or lean badly to one side. this cause sometime an unintentional sudden move which cause changing the steering wheel direction. that might cause an accident in some cases. another major problem. is the car get into sudden power loss after a while of driving after making a full stop. for example on traffic light or stop sign. it will take very very slow taking off and then will get the power back after few seconds. this delay may cause an accident in example of making left turn on a traffic intersection. you will not have any power to move the car for about 2-4 seconds . thanks *tr
While driving my wife to work my car stopped working and i pulled over to the side of the road. the service engine soon light came on and i was able to start the car again. the next day i was driving at about 50 miles and hour and the same thing happen twice. the car will nor start unless i give it some gas by stepping on the accelerator. i checked the failure codes and got p0340, bank 1 camshaft positioning sensor failure. called my nissan dealer in santa rosa calif. and was told my vehicle was not a part of recall 03v455000. this is wrong. this problem is well known and all 2003 nissan murano's should be included. my car has 103,000 miles. *tr
After driving in stop and go traffic accelerator does not respond for 3-4 seconds then lunges forward and is very dangerous. *tr
Stop all of a sudden when driving it, very dangerous if driving on highway. brought to body shop and checked, cam sensor problem should have a recall. call nissan, said vin number doesn't show any recall. cost 300 to fix, problem may happen again. nissan very irresponsible! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the check engine light came on. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a diagnostic test and the test showed that the crank positioning sensor malfunctioned. the mechanic informed the contact about a recall for the engine and engine cooling ( 03v455000). the contact called the manufacturer regarding the recall and was informed that vin was not a part of the recall. the contact was concerned since the vehicle could shut off without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. the manufacturer should extend the recall to more vin. the failure mileage was 68,000.
First incident: "slip", "vdc off", and "service engine soon" lights all came on simultaneously as car jerked/hesitated in hov lane of westbound i-66. car remained running with "slip", "vdc off", and "service engine soon" lights remaining on the rest of the trip home. second incident (01/30/2011): "service engine soon" light already on. as stop light turned green and began to accelerate from complete stop, "slip" and "vdc off" lights came on and car stalled in the road way. was able to restart car with some difficulty in middle of the road and continued on. third incident: "service engine soon" light already on. car stalled turning into owner driveway, with "slip" and "vdc off" lights coming on. was able to restart car with some difficulty and pull into driveway. nissan dealer service department found code p0340: "b1 cam sensor failure". fp-number: 23731-69j0b. sensor assembly replaced 02/03/2011. 2nd code p1564: "replace cruise control"
Murnao has been maintained wth all oil changes/schd mx done by the book. couple of days ago i was sitting in line at a drive thru and the car abruptly died. there were no warning lights prior to the event. the service engine soon light came on then went back off after a restart. then yesterday it died while slowing to a stop sign at aprox 15 mph. this time the service light stayed on after the restart. again this morning it died, this time in traffic while traveling at aprox 50 mph. parked the murano and borrowed a friends car for the rest of the day. did my homework online and noticed the recall for this engine stall. got the engine codes from a local shop and suprise; camshaft position/crank position sensors. of course when i called nissan my vin is not affected by the recall 03v455000. contacted local nissan dealer, est repair costs $600+. nissan is not holding up its end of thier deal on this vehicle. please take note, do not buy nissan.
Dipstick is unreadable, as a result i have changed my oil every 1500miles instead of 3000, because if i wait till 3000 miles there is only a quart to quart and half left in the engine, this has been ongoing since i bought the car but never reported, although i did tell the autodealer repair center about it and got no response. *tr
I was driving to take my boss and 2 coworkers to lunch. i was on robins af base in the left hand exit lane. my car just all of a sudden lost power and stalled... no brakes... no power... all the lights on the front dashboard came on. i almost got hit in the rear by the car behind me because i was in a turn lane and my car just stopped in front of them. i was able to restart my car and turn around and immediately parked it and we had to walk a ways to get to another vehicle to drive... then my husband came and drove the car to mechanic who lives up the street who hooked it up to the sensor thing... it is the cam shaft sensor. now looking at the other complaints i am afraid that there is more that will occur. i can't really trust the dealership where i bought it because they tried on several occasions to charge for services not needed each at least $800. i paid $80 to have my tires balanced and they only balanced 3 of the 4! so many people have a problem with the cam sensor that nissan really needs to do something for the vehicles not on the list. this is not right for all the customers who paid good money for a working vehicle in good condition. i still have to contact the dealer but i don't expect from the previous complaints they will be any help and i refuse to pay that kind of money for a default in the vehicle that they are aware of and refuse to recall! please make note that my 2003 nissan murano is among those with the cam sensor problem and not on the list. something needs to be done about this if nissan expects good reviews and repeat customers... if they don't well, i will go to every place i can post to and share my unsatisfied customer service story. *tr
After extended idle, the vehicle becomes unresponsive to fuel feed. when the gas pedal is depressed there is a hesitation (2-5 seconds) and then suddenly the vehicle will lurch forward. the problem temporarily goes away when the car is shut off for a few minutes. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact attempted to accelerate from a stop but the vehicle would not respond. the rpms increased excessively and the vehicle accelerated after reaching 2000 rpms. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test where the technician advised that the vehicle was included in nhtsa recall campaign id number: 09v169000 (engine and engine cooling). in addition, the oxygen sensor would need replacing. the vehicle was repaired yet the failure persisted after the recall repairs. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the technicians were unable to diagnose the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The first incident occurred while i was driving 60mph on the interstate. the car began do lose acceleration. it jerked and finally began to respond to the gas pedal. the ses light came on also. it was repaired at the dealership where they said it was the oxygen sensors. this cost $1000.00. five months later the car lost power while i was driving in a tunnel. i came to a complete stop, turned the car off and restarted it. i drove straight to the dealership but before getting there the car lost power again at a stoplight, , would not accelerate, finally regained some power and i basically coasted into the dealership. i was told it was now a camshaft and crankshaft sensor. this cost 420.00. a few weeks later after coming off the ramp of the interstate the car lurched so hard that it hurt my back. i felt like it jumped out of gear but it was still in drive and lost acceleration again. i restarted it and called the dealership again. the next day the ses light came on. i have researched this on the computer and found out that many 2003 nissan muranos were recalled for this very problem but my vin number is not on the list. it stated that the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint and needs to be replaced. it stated that the car could stop without warning and cause a crash.
I have a 2003 nissan murano. about 1 week ago the check engine light came on. the car doesn't start right away and also stalls during operation. i took the car to the nissan dealer and was told the camshaft position sensor has to be replaced. *tr
Since i bought this car from nissan dealership its been one thing after the other first the catalytic converter was already broke when the sold it to us they turned the engine lite off prior to going for test drive the day we bought n rode home the lite came right back on & has been on since still is dealer said 1500$$ an they would fix it nice... the front seat broke, gas tank lid wouldn't open had to fix it, an now steering has went 640$$ to fix it ?? *tr
My 2003 nissan murano sl will sometimes be slow to respond to accelerator inputs. usually after the vehicle has been driven about an hour, if i come to a stop at a red light or an off ramp, when i press the accelerator, nothing happens for a second or two, then the vehicle jumps forward at a rapid rate like i floored the gas pedal. this happens whether i depress the accelerator slightly or aggressively. sometimes if it gets too bad, i will turn the car off then start it up again to reset the computer and it will fix the issue for a while. it is obviously some computer thing. my dealer is useless and i am tired of taking the car in to him. he doesn't fix things well if i tell him what is wrong, to ask him to diagnose a problem would be agonizing. i am just living with this until it gets worse, but it is definitely a safety issue. *tr
2003 nissan murano cam position sensor code. my car has stalled and cut out while driving. the reason is the cam position sensor. nissan says that my vin number isn't part of the recall. i say it should be. it a very dangerous situation when you lose power unexpectedly. *tr
Cam position sensor (via check engine light)
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving 25 mph the vehicle suddenly shut off. when the vehicle shut off the brake light began flashing and the brake pedal became difficult engage. the contact was forced to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. the dealer informed the contact that the crank sensor needed to be replaced. there is a similar recall on other nissan models regarding the engine and engine cooling (crank shaft sensor) but the 2003 murano was not involved in the recall. the contact is concerned about the safety risk since there was no related recall for his year, make and model vehicle. the failure mileage was 90,000.
In jan 2010 while traveling on interstate at 65 mph the engine of my 2003 nissan murano suddenly died leaving me with no power steering or power brakes. it was terrifying, but luckily, i managed to get to shoulder without an accident. car engine restarted without hesitation. after waiting 5 minutes with engine idling smoothly with no apparent problem, i exited to frontage road at next exit and, 3 miles later, at 30 mph the engine suddenly died again. restarted and pulled into nearby parking lot. car again restarted without problem. after 10 minutes of idling smoothly, engine died while parked. had car towed to nissan dealer. nissan shop reported that the "crankshaft position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced." i found that there was recall issued in 2003 for 2003 model year nissan murano for exactly this issue, but both dealer and nissan usa, when contacted by me, said the recall did not apply to my vin # (even though nhtsa indicated recall affected 600,000 vehicles). i believe the failure of my crankshaft position sensor is directly related to the faulty solder joints in the circuit boards for the crankshaft position sensor as described in this recall. i believe the following recall should be expanded to include all 2003 model year nissan murano vehicles: nhtsa campaign id number: 03v455000, nissan recall #: r3022). *tr
I drive a 2003 nissan murano. i bought it used in 2005, in the last few years i have complained to the dealership (while still under warranty) that the car was almost stalling out on me while in drive. nissan told me they could find nothing wrong and so nothing was repaired. in on december 3, 2009 i was leaving my parking garage at work and my car stalled out completely; it then took 15 minutes before it would re-start. after that, i drove home without incident and assumed that it was just bad gas or something. two weeks later, i was traveling at 50 mph when my car completely shut down, nearly causing an accident with my 7 year-old in the car with me. after that, my service engine light came on and i had loss of engine power. i then had the car towed to my mechanic on 1/21, where he ran a diagnostic and found that my crank position sensor and cam position sensor needed to be replaced. my mechanic also found that there had been a recall on the 2003 murano for that reason, and he told me to have my car towed to nissan since i had reported issues while under warranty and there was a know recall for this problem. i towed my car to nissan that day and they told me that because i was no longer under warranty, and even though i had reported it prior to expiration, they would not repair the problem. i also advised them that i was fully aware of the recall. they then told me that my vin was off by the last four digits and because of that, again, they were not obligated to fix it under the recall or warranty. i have since had the repair completed with my mechanic, but another friend of mine just had the same exact thing happen with her 2008 nissan (which they also refused to repair under her warranty). i am extremely concerned that nissan does not care about the safety of it's drivers since this is obviously a known problem. this is not a maintenance issue, but a safety one. this issue needs to be looked into so that innocent people do not die. *tr
I have a 03 murano sl. purchased off a lease turn in. certified suv. at 79,000 miles brought to dealer with engine clicking noise in dec. 09.. dealer could not find problem. noise continued and brought it back in january2010. they changed pulley assembly. i called to tell them noise was still there. was told to check oil from time to time. i saw on my service report they put down check engine light was on and was low on oil. i know for a fact this is a lie. told them to remove it from the report. they refused. now here is the real problem. i was on the garden state parkway and i lost power. i restarted the suv and the engine produced a very loud rattling noise. i had it towed to nissan, since they serviced this from when it was originally sold and i let them service to protect the warrant and they would have all the records. well, the timing chain broke. i was told they have plastic guides to guide the timing chain and these will wear and cause the chain to slip. this occurred at 83,000 miles. nissan is refusing to help with the replacement engine. they want $8600 for a new engine. on a 2003 is absurd. a used engine with 60,000 miles and no warranty will cost $5600. i feel the service misdiagnosed my problem, never searched for the real problem in dec. 09 and falsely put on the report the check engine light was on and it was low on oil to protect themselves from any problems since dec. i had a extended warranty, which i cancelled when they did not cover engine seal leak, tie rod problem and trans axle seal leak, in the extended warranty brochure it mentions all the above as covered items. after fighting with dealer and corporate i canceled the warranty. the uncovered repairs cost me over $2500. this was a nissan backed extended warranty. i now have a complaint with somerset county where the dealer is located and the state of new jersey about all the red tape nissan has put up to have covered repairs actually covered. if this fails, small claims ct. is next. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically while driving various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the cam sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the cam sensor. approximately one month later, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that he was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
I own a 2003 nissan murano, my check engine light has come on several times. each time i brought to the nissan dealership and they could not figure out what's was wrong. on saturday sept 26, 2009 at 4:00 pm i was driving my nissan murano and without warning or anything the car shut off while in motion on the freeway, everything stopped working including the breaks. this is the 2nd time this car has shut off while in motion. i checked for recalls appears some 2003 nissan murano's were recalled by nhtsa, but when i went to nissan they said my car was not part of the recall? i believe it should be because i've experienced exactly what the recall ( 03v455000) is indicating. i don't believe nissan recalled all the cars they should have with this problem, obviously since i am having this problem. nissan need to recall my 2003 nissan and all others its failed to include either by error or on purpose? i tried to work with nissan north america no help at all. i need someone to review this case and hopefully save lives by having nissan do a complete recall on the cars that should have been included in the recall. *tr
During a routine service of my 2003 nissan murano, which has 33,293 miles on the odometer, the service technician noticed radiator fluid leaking from a hose that is located behind a fan-belt tension pulley. upon closer inspection it was discovered that the bracket on which the pulley is mounted had failed causing the pulley to be pushed out of alignment and subsequently damaging the hose and belt, resulting in a repair cost of $450.27. the repair consisted of replacing all the effected components at my expense. as far as i know, the "defective bracket" was replaced with an identical item sharing the same defective qualities. nissan will not divulge the reason for the brackets failure. my concern is: if this "pulley devise" had broken off the vehicle due to the failure of the bracket while i was driving at speed, it would have done incalculable damage ,possibly causing me to loose control of the vehicle, probably causing an accident resulting in injury or loss of life. when i asked the service manager what caused the bracket to fail, he said he didn't know, but that i should consider myself fortunate that he discovered the problem when he did. apparently, other owners were not so fortunate, their cars had to be towed and the damage was much more extensive. after the repairs were completed i asked to be given the defective and damaged parts and now have them in my possession. *tr
Check engine light came on and the car was missing as it was driven. took it to mechanic and they discovered that the #1 cylinder had no compression. this is with only 70,000 miles on it. it ended up needed a valve job - $3,200. when they took off that part of the engine to have it machined, they discovered that the rear catalytic converter failed and the front one was about to fail. in the case of the cylinder issue and the catalytic converter issue i was able to visually see and confirm what they were talking about. they said that the pieces of the failed rear catalytic converter more than likely got sucked back into the cylinder, scratching the surface of it and causing the compression loss. since there was a failure of the catalytic converters and it was under the 8year/80,000 limit i called nissan looking for reimbursement on at least the catalytic converters cost. they said they were under warranty until 2011, which is eight years, but that it wasn't covered because it would only be covered if there was a recall. that is not what the epa fact sheet epa420-f-96-020 says. i will try to contact another nisan location about this issue as they would not help me or transfer me to anyone else. so i needed a valve job and two new catalytic converters because of this. at this point, the old catalytic converters are not available. *tr
I have a nissan murano 2003, the check engine light has come on several times, and the car stalls when i press on gas it takes about 5 seconds or so to accelerate which almost caused an accident, one time earlier the car stalled stopped while driving on the highway and could have caused perhaps a deadly accident. i have been to nissan dealer several times more then 4 with the same issue engine light and the issues. the latest time i went to nissan they said it could be the transmission perhaps, this is a faulty car and something needs to be done. *tr
Driving along road at 40 mph and car just cut out, loss power . this happen a few times and also had problems starting vehicle several times. now there is a recall for this part for 630,000 nissan murano's but my vehicle vin is not one of them . i dont understand how nissan can only be responsible for fixing a portion of the cars out there when i have the same symptoms and this happens to me and they will fix others but my wife may die in a car crash because no one recalls the cam sensors on all of the 2003 nissan murano's instead of just some. thank you james m. dickerson
My 2003 nissan murano has been stalling with no warning lights beforehand. last week, the nissan dealer told me that i needed a new battery which cost me $189. this week, my murano is still stalling. now, they told me that i need a new air flow meter and spark plugs which will cost me $821.64. that's more than $1,000 in two weeks on a car that's 6 years old with 80,000 miles! not to mention that the transmission had to be replaced at around $60,000... and numerous other repairs. nissan is a company that does not stand behind its product....and i'm absolutely fed up with it. *tr
I own 2003 nissan murano with around 111000 miles on it. at the beginning of july 2009 my car all of sudden lost all power when i was driving at around 40 mph, the engine seized, the check engine light came on. luckily i was able to stop the car without any crash. i took the car to pep boys auto repair chain. i was told the failure happened due to a faulty crank position sensor. i had the repair made and the car is running fine now. when i was looking at your database i realized that there was a recall on 2003 nissan murano for the exact same problem that happened to me. the nhtsa campaign number for that recall was 03v455000. i contacted nissan and was told my car did not fall under the recall as it was manufactured in a different plant than recalled vehicles. any way i want to report this issue as i consider this a serious safety issue. after the engine seized driving at 40 mph i am glad i did not lose control of the car (there was no other vehicles around which helped) this is the information from recall 03v455000, this is exactly what happened to my car: this could cause the "service engine soon" warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. *tr
