Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Nissan Frontier

After refueling, fuel gauge reads empty and service engine soon light comes on. code can be reset, but issue recurs upon next fill-up. *tr

The fuel sending unit on the truck failed at about 38k miles. the gage is slow to respond to a fill-up 30-60 minutes to register full. it functions normally until around half a tank, then the needle drops to e and the empty tank light comes on. after refueling the truck several times it was still half full of fuel. the check engine light has been on since the start of the problem. online boards have indicated that this is a common problem on this truck. a code scanner at a parts store also said that it was a problem with the fuel level sending unit. i will probably replace the part myself. *tr

2006 nissan frontier fuel gauge erratic indicating empty when below 1/2 tank full. suspect float or sensor in fuel system. *tr

Service engine soon light comes on after every fill up of fuel. fuel gauge does not show an accurate reading for approximately 1-2 days. several other consumers have this problem and nissan should make it right. *tr

Check engine light came on and fuel gauge is inoperative. nissan recalled units in this model year for this problem but my case was denied. *tr

Fuel level indicator will not respond after fill up. then the check engine light came on. code registered is p0463. indicates fuel level indicator defective.*tr

Vehicle gas gauge does not work. when i fill up the tank the gauge will show full, and the light will go off. then as the fuel is used up the light will come on even though the tank is 3/4 full. *tr

My fuel gauge does not work all the time on my 2006 nissan frontier 4x4 crew cab nismo. i live in south dakota and my wife and 3 year old daughter drive and ride in this vehicle, with the winter months coming and how dangerously cold it gets in south dakota, this could be a life threatening problem. not to mention if the truck stalled on the road it could cause an accident. my truck has approx. 46,000 miles on it. *tr

The fuel level sensor on my 2006 nissan frontier crew cab stopped working right after the warranty period was up. it started fluctuating and giving false readings, then stopped working all together. since the fuel sensor is tied to the check engine light, i was unable to obtain a safety inspection sticker until the item was repaired. to repair this, the fuel tank had to be removed. this cost me 400 to fix. i believe the unit to be defective, as i have been seeing more consumers who purchased this truck logging the same complaint. furthermore, i have a fear that is the unit is shorting out, it could cause a fire. after all, it sits on top of a 20 gallon fuel tank. this should be recalled!!! *tr

i own a 2006 nissan frontier, it was delivered with only half the keys programmed for the vehicle, a strange rattling of plastic shrouding in the engine compartment and as i found out a fast set of tires later, the front end out of alignment [ too much toe in ]. when i read the manual i found out that my 4wd vehicle was "not intended to be used off of the road", this was not in any of the presales literature and the reason i buy 4wd is so i can use it off road. at 100 miles after warranty i had to take it in because the fuel sending unit had failed, about a $600 repair on a part that should last 200,000 miles. the mechanic told me their dealership is replacing about one of these a week on a couple of models. when i picked it up i got the trouble light on the way home, i scanned it to see what the problem was [code po448 ]. i took it back. the first canister they ordered showed up broken [ kind of fragile for something mounted on the bottom of a 4wd ]. parts replaced under the emissions warranty were 14953zp50c filter-canister, 14950-ea20a canister assy. e, and 14935-am60b valve assy.-co. the service order says " ...inspected/found no flow very rusty....". as the vehicle only has 36,000 miles on it this does not bode well for the future. *tr

2006 nissan frontier xe 4 cylinder manual trans. at approximately 35,000 miles my fuel gauge stopped working after filling up, and read empty. the check engine light came on immediately. the fuel gauge began behaving erratically, sometimes reading correctly without the check engine light on, but always malfunctioning at approximately half tank, causing the check engine light to come on. then it ceased to function at all with the check engine light remaining on. nissan of santa rosa told me it would not be covered under my q certified power train warranty 100,000 miles or 2 years. nissan told me it was a problem with the fuel delivery system, and the sensor inside the gas tank needed replacement, at my charge. also, i cannot have my evap emissions system recall work performed until the fuel delivery system problem is fixed. as a result i cannot complete my vehicle registration for this year. i demand a recall of the fuel delivery system for the 2006 nissan frontier. thank you. *tr

Nissan 2006 frontier, bad fuel level sensor, as per trouble code p0463. i have researched this online and have found hundreds of complaints for all different types of nissans having the same problem as myself. basically service engine light comes on and gas gauge works intermittently, gives false reading of amount of fuel in tank. i personally have run out of gas on several occasions as a result. this problem started at approx 55k miles, this is consistent with other peoples complaints as well. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. when the fuel tank was full the fuel gauge indicated that it was empty and the check engine light remained illuminated. he contacted the manufacturer and no assistance was offered because the vehicle was not under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 37,500 and the current mileage was 55,007. updated 4/30/10 *cn updated 05/10/10*jb

The fuel gauge on my 2006 nissan frontier crew cab le 4x4 is malfunctioning and fails to give accurate measurements of the amount of fuel present. i have done research on the internet and found many more frontier owners who are experiencing the same problem. *tr

One day without warning check engine light came on and fuel level gauge became incorrect and erratic. this happened at approx 38000 mile just out of warranty. i have ran out of gas in traffic because my fuel gauge was reading 1/4 tank and there was none. having to fill my vehicle in traffic is a major safety concern. *tr

Summary: nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. my vin si [xxx] nissan claims my vehicle is not part of the recall when it is obvious that im having this issue and have had it for some time now. nissan is refusing to honor it's customers. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2005 nissan frontier - gas gauge was not working, and not showing that i had gas in my tank. then it began giving me problems, misfiring while driving and "service engine soon" light appears. i took it to a nissan dealership who told me that the fuel level sensor a circuit high input needed replacing. since i was not under warranty, i had to replace fuel sending unit. my job at the time, required me to drive alot, though the car was barely two years old. i had over 30,000 miles. still, the problem cost me over $800!!!! and in all respects, it was a problem with a defective part - not because i drive it. i am sorry i ever bought this vehicle - i should have bought a honda element (my wife's car) she has never had a mechanical problem in the four years she has had the car. nissan makes a trash pickup. disgruntled and frustrated over nissan's incapability to produce a better vehicle, and replace faulty parts. they obviously need the money! *tr

I own a 2006 nissan frontier cc 4x4 in which the fuel tank sending unit is faulty and nissan tells me my vehicle does not fall within their current fuel sending unit campaign. the sending unit failed at approx 44,000 miles. i currently have 66,000 miles on the vehicle. i have run out of gas once when it first happened. now i put gas in it every 2 days regardless of what the gauge says. *tr

2006xe vehicle stopped running on interstate hwy.towed to baytown nissan. faulty gauge reading led to running tank dry. replaced fuel pump and sending unit. spent $205.00 for towing and $406.82 to replace pump and sending unit! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. while driving at an unknown speed, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. the vehicle would sporadically stall. speed was not a factor during the failures. after the vehicle would stall, it would take a long time to automatically restart. the dealer could not duplicate the failure and provide a remedy. the vehicle was inspected by a mechanic, who stated that the gasoline delivery pump was potentially defective. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but because it exceeded the warranty, they would not repair the vehicle for free. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 71,853.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact stated that after receiving a recall notice in reference to nhtsa campaign id number (10v075000-fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). the vehicle was taken into the dealer to be repaired; however, immediately after leaving the dealer the failure recurred. he also stated that the tire pressure sensor gauge had malfunctioned since the day that the vehicle was purchased. the warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the transmission also failed when the vehicle staled and he was unable to get it restarted. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who replaced the transmission. the failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
