I was driving to work in the morning , about 10 miles to work on the highway not a tree or car insight , i heard what sounded like a loud pop / i had no idea what it was , not a tire or anything i look up and see my sunroof shattered
Transmission damage caused by transmission cooler.
The dealer told me the timing chain needed to be replaced due to a whirring sound
Timing chain has to be repaired at less than 50,000 miles. a class action suit against nissan was just completed roland tellis baron & budd attorneys for owners of nissan frontiers in the states of california and washington where owners are to be reimbursed expense of replacing faulty frontier timing chain that nissan manufacturer allegedly knew were in the trucks that they had sold. in the suit it states that if you have less than 120k miles on your vehicle. i was told by the dealership service center that replacing timing chain at 50k miles is normal. i believe they mispresented the truth in this instance and that i shouldn't have to pay for a repair that is a result of manufacturer error. recently engine stalled in the intersection, i was lucky the chain had not shattered and destroyed my engine.
My truck just reached 80,800 miles and it has lost power. i took it to the nissan dealer for a diagnostic test and it came back with the radiator, transmission and the fuel pump all need to be replaced. they told me i had no warranty on any of these parts as of 2010 and they quoted me almost $7,000 to replace all. after going home and looking up transmission shops i found hundreds of articles about the same problem with thousands of nissan cars. i have never received a notice of recall on my truck. then i find they have sneakily extended their warranty without notifying us and now my truck is 12years old with only 80,800 miles and i need to come up with $7,000 because they failed to notify their clients about their mistakes.
After 2 and a half months of fighting with nissan consumer affairs, nissan has basically told me they do not care about me or the other people affected by this issue or their safety. as sad as it sounds its going to take someone getting killed because of this issue before they open their eyes.
Truck cuts off while driving no matter what speed your at. have to wait a few seconds to get it to start again.
The serpentine drive belt came off 4/26/17, 12/7/17, and 2/10/18 . when it was reinstalled on 12/7/17 the mechanic said they found a reference that said nissan has new serpentine drive belt kit available and if came off again they recommended i get the new kit installed. all three times the belt came off when i started the engine in my driveway. several times it felt like something was slipping when i stepped on the gas after stopping for a stop sign prior to the 3d time it came off.after stopping
Transmission cross contamination with coolant. 72,000 miles on odometer. had transmission failure on the freeway driving full speed, forcing me to quickly move over 6 lanes with no high gear. now i have a $4900 repair bill. i was in the nissan dealership just 1 week prior for an oil change and have had the vehicle serviced at nissan since it was new. i was never told of the recall or that i should bypass the radiator or beware of the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle jerked front to back and then stalled. the engine and other warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was pushed into a parking lot. the driver attempted to start the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was able to be started the next day; however, the failure recurred a week later. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the radiator liquid was leaking into the transmission, which caused the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who confirmed the mechanic's diagnosis and replaced a faulty sensor. the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to the dealer again, but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Complaint re: transmission failure with my 2005 nissan frontier. is locked in 3rd gear in automatic transmission. overdrive gear was gone due to coolant mixing with transmission fluid. had replaced radiator & flushed transmission 3 months ago hoping to buy me some more miles before having to replace transmission. didn't work. told by nissan that i was sol due to over 100,000 miles. *tr ## vin passed ## nissan frontier v6 4x4 2005 ##
Vehicle engine has shut off completely while at a full stop and while driving. once while making a turn and once while in motion. many frontier owners have experienced the same. took it to one of the best auto techs in florida. diagostic showed "no codes"
Radiator leaking fluid into transmission . notices slight shutter at high speed, approximately 65 mph, in the transmission. vehicle was checked by dealer at 89,000 miles without any issue at that time . dealer would not replace radiator due to no problem at that time. vehicle is at 112000 and now radiator fails. nissan would not cover due to out of extended warranty. faulty designed system and potential safety hazard in my opinion. vehicle at my independent mechanic for new radiator and transmission flush out to see if it will fix problem. major expense for poor design passed onto customer. i will not spend any more money with nissan.
Transmission oil leaking into coolant system and coolant leaking into transmission.
Radiator and transmission failure due to coolant leaking into the transmission. this poses a significant safety issue when i lose power on a busy interstate. the transmission loses power when trying to upshift. inspection completed via an authorized nissan dealership. efforts to rectify with nissan have failed. this issue has been known for quite some time and is marked as an open nhtsa investigation.
Vehicle shut off while driving on the highway. i was driving down the highway at 65 mph when the truck made a quick jerk and them completely shut off. i came very close to causing a highway pile up!! i had no power, no steering no nothing. luckily i was able to get across 3 lanes safely. cars were slamming on brakes and luckily i didnt kill myself or anyone else. once i got the the side of the road i was able to get the truck going and safely get to an exit. i creeped home on a wing a prayer and now the truck is sitting in my driveway. i dont dare to use it and i need it. i am scared to drive it, ithas given me anxiety, it was horrific. my truck has 94220 miles on it.
Timing chain on 2005 nissan frontier. the engine makes a loud whining noise due to the chain contact. when the vehicle is stationary or motion it make the noise. when the vehicle in motion it changes gears at a higher rpm. i have sensors that were operable because of the timing chain issue.
Nissan transmission destroyed by engine coolant leak. had no problem with transmission until one day, shifted into drive and transmission was stuck in higher gear. thought it was electrical. turned the car off then back on. would not engage in reverse, but forward was back to normal. took to aamco transmission repair and was told this was a common problem with nissans in that the design flaw allows engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid and destroys the transmission. cost to replace is estimated at $4100, can not obtain a used transmission because all the same transmissions have the same problem with engine coolant leakage. vehicle has 155k miles, and did not have any warning signs of transmission problems. nissan needs to be responsible for their design flaw. this truck which was running fine last week, will now be sold for scrap at a junkyard as i can not afford to repair for $4100. aamco transmission said junk yards are full of same nissans due to other owners with the same problem.
In 2013 i received a notice of class action about a nissan vehicles related to possible radiator fluid leak into the transmission due a defect that permits cross-contamination of engine coolant and transmission fluid. it did not include vehicles before it happens. in 2013, i went to a authorized nissan dealer to check if my radiator can be affected but they told me that in that moment the radiator was working well without given me the option of replacing it to prevent damages. at the time i was under the warranty limits, less than 10 years and less than 100,000 miles. now in february 13, 2016 my vehicle began to have problems to move , had a harsh shift , it slowed down and did not drive at times. i clearly saw a transmission problem. i called united nissan service for a diagnose . they check my vehicle and told me that my radiator leaked fluid into the transmission due the radiator defect. i couldn't understand why this class action did not include vehicles that will face this damage in a future . it did not include prevention of damages. nissan did not released a recall for the faulty radiator. i know i am now outside the warranty limits, but at the time when i visited nissan service to prevent this no one provided my help or information that would help in prevent such damage. the price for a new transmission is 6,000 dlls. the total cost of repair all goes up 9,000 dlls. also i received a rude customer service by the service agents of nissan service . now i have to cover these costs by myself. my son was driven the vehicle when this happen. the good thing is that the failure occurred while he was driven on the freeway making it so dangerous. what will happen with people like us? the legal case was closed in 2012 but nissan still having vehicles suffering this this damage . this is a negligence that pass the financial burden to consumers.
Timing chain component failure
Had to have timing chains and related parts replaced. cost $1700 out of pocket, no help from nissan.
Engine coolant is leaking into the transmission and vice versa
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. while driving 50 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the engine and the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was shifted into park and restarted. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
With no warning the truck would not start, and just stopped working. we hooked it up to the code reader and did some research online. what we found was really troubling. we bit the bullet and paid to have it towed to the dealer. the dealer looked it over and said that the radiator contaminated the transmission causing a failure in both. they would have to replace the transmission, all the seals and hoses, the radiator and the computer. these repairs were quoted to be $8,000. we just bought the truck which is worth $11,000 and now we are hit with an $8,000 repair bill? this is a major manufacturer failure and was already part of a class action settlement, but since you had to be a part of the class action suit before we even owned the truck we are just out of luck? nissan needs to buy this truck at full value from us, instead they are trying to take us for another $8,000. *tr
Vehicle wouldn't shift into a high gear. this after hesitation, stuttering, and other issues. transmission cooler failure resulting in transmission failure and radiator failure. common defect. local nissan dealers as well as nissan consumer affairs department unwilling to fix or to "good will" a solution. 3700$ at a local licensed garage to fix. *tr
My car starts and idle but do not accelerate the ipdm is not working perfectly. *tr
My truck started shuddering every once in a while. eventually it was pause when changing gears (would not accelerate and would lose speed), and then it began to make a clanking sound. took it to a mechanic and he said on this particular model the coolant via a leak in the radiator combines with the transmission fluid. repair estimate is $3,800 plus tax! vehicle was in motion and on city streets and highways.... generally at a speed of 40mph or higher. the issues began about a year ago and then slower progressed to worse. when it started is a guesstimate.
Tl* the contact owned a 2005 nissan frontier. while the contact's son was driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and crashed into a jersey wall. the driver was trapped inside the vehicle when it suddenly burst into flames. as a result, the contact's son passed away. a police report was filed. the fire department extinguished the fire. the vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and deemed a total loss. the dealer was not contacted to determine the cause of the engine power failure. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling) several months after the collision. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was unknown. *tt *cn

I purchased a used 2005 nissan frontier se crew cab with 86,000 miles for $13,300 november 29th 2013. no warning or indication that this vehicle was part of a class action lawsuit over the radiator cooled transmission problems. there was no indication that this vehicle may exhibit symptoms that seem unrelated. on august 6th 2014 at 99,978 miles i took my truck into a ase certified mechanic to check out the transmission because of shuddering while shifting. they ran a diagnostic, checked the fluids, and sensors. at that time they assessed it was a dirty sensor and sent me on my way, and followed up after a few days. the vehicle was still having the same issues and i brought it back in. upon further inspection of the transmission oil there was a significant amount of radiator fluid in there and the problem was identified. the current mileage is now 100,600 miles. i then made a claim to nissan consumer affairs department regarding the issue. at this time i now found about the class action lawsuit settlement and the extended warranty. free up to 70k or 80k and a co-pay after. i was never informed of this until now. tuesday august 19th i was informed that nissan was not responsible for divulging any of this information to me and that they would not cover even the co-pay. it is august 20th and my truck is currently at the ase certified mechanic awaiting the parts to come in to replace my transmission and radiator for $5,100 which is much less than the nissan quote of $6,700. i now have a truck purchased 9 months ago with a $5,100 mechanic bill. i have 28 $400 payments to make for the truck in addition to replacing the poorly manufactured transmission and radiator. *tr
The radiator cracked and leaked coolant into the transmission, mixing with the transmission fluid creating a toxic fluid that irreversibly damaged everything around it. the vehicle was being driven when first noticed. i had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed at my local nissan dealership. i could not afford to replace the transmission so flushing it was my only option. it lasted for a few years but now it needs to be replaced. this is a defect that has affected thousands of customers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. while driving approximately 50 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission, the torque converter, and the radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing change needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 93,000.

2nd time a solenoid went out resulting in all loss of power and power staring was unmanageable, unable to restart vehicle. another $1500 fix. *tr
I was at a stop light and when it turned green my truck felt like it was stuck in neutral and wouldn't get into gear. with hesitation, it finally jumped into gear but was very sluggish with hardly any power. it was quite dangerous with a line of vehicles behind me i thought i was going to get rear-ended. thankfully i was only 2 minutes from my office where i was able to pull in the parking lot and unload my two children and call my wife to pick us up. i had to have my car sit there over the weekend because i didn't feel safe driving it. on the following monday i had it towed to a transmission repair shop where they diagnosed it as a cracked radiator head with coolant leaking into the transmission causing this failure. i then had it towed again to the nissan dealership where they diagnosed it and confirmed the first diagnosis. they said unfortunately i was over the mileage and to call the national nissan dealership and petition for assistance. after looking up all the information i find it discerning that nissan hasn't done the right thing and recalled this to make it right. *tr
A crack in the radiator has caused coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. this has resulted in catastrophic failure of the transmission requiring the replacement of the transmission and complete radiator replacement. i have been quoted a total cost of close to $5000. *tr
I was driving along on a major interstate at 65 mph when my engine was revving up to about 3500 or 4000 rpm but my speed was dropping. i pulled over to the right hand side of the road, stopped and turned the vehicle off. had i not been in the right lane of the major interstate when traffic was very light, i could have had a major accident. everything seemed normal except the low coolant level in the reservoir bottle. there did not appear to be any problems with the engine so then i placed the truck into drive and moved the vehicle forward. as the vehicle picked up speed and at about the 35 to 40 mph the truck engine would rev up but the transmission was slipping and not allowing the truck to move any faster. when i took the screw off the transmission dipstick to see that fluid level was too high for the proper level in the automatic transmission. also, i noticed that the fluid had a greyish milky appearance which is a clear indication of contamination with a water based material such as engine coolant.i find the fact nissan clearly knew that was a problem and failed to notify me as the original owner of the vehicle annoying. they would rather pay to have vehicle repaired after the fact than take care of a potential safety problem before it occurs. this is extremely troublesome when a manufacturer places profits and the bottom line ahead of customer safety. upon further research, i have learned that i could have replaced the faulty radiator with another product from koyorad for about $120 retail and prevented this problem. so for a couple hundred dollars, nissan is willing to jeopardize my safety and all other nissan owners safety. as the national safety agency, i implore you act immediately and order a recall on these nissan vehicles before people get hurt. it is your duty to protect the people of the nation from safety issues when manufacturers fail to do so. *tr
Engine dies without warning. while traveling on a busy road, my 2005 nissan frontier's engine just stopped running without warning. this is not a new complaint, numerous nissan owners have complained about this. nhtsa campaign number: 10v517000 (recall) is/was supposed to address this issue but does not. nissan and nhtsa have failed to adequately address the safety issue with the above referenced recall. it is an intermittent problem that occurs even after going to nissan and having the ecm relay within the ipdm replaced per the recall. nissan and nhtsa have failed to protect the general public by permitting a known safety issue to be masked by an ineffective fix. there is no data available to the public to support niissan's or nhtsa's assertion that a failed steering diode within the ecm relay (located within the ipdm) is the cause of the reported engine stop running incidents. the real fix, and the more costly fix for nissan, is the replacement of the ecm and possibly the ipdm too. nissan pooled the wool over the eyes of nhtsa and nhtsa went along with the manufacturer - both entities have failed to protect the consumer from this dangerous condition. i'm lucky in that my 2005 nissan frontier has a manual transmission so that when the failure occurs i can more easily maintain speed and control in order to roll the vehicle over to the side of the road. i am a competent vehicle mechanic and engineer by education and training and i have spent untold hours meticulously troubleshooting this problem with my vehicle, and after incorporating the recall fix and numerous other fixes directly related, my vehicle's engine continues to stop running without warning. nhtsa needs to step up it's watchdog efforts, re-open nhtsa campaign number: 10v517000 and force nissan to adequately protect the consumer from this engine stops running without warning safety issue. *js
The radiator failed causing the the transmission fluid to get contaminated with coolant. this caused the transmission to fail resulting in a nearly $5,000 bill. *tr
Passing other vehicle on i-45 towards downtown at approximately 70 mph the engine experienced intermittent stalling. i was in danger to crash others with problems to get our of the high speed lines. at that moment the engine totally stalled ,. finally i was able to reach the extreme right line and pull out waiting for a complete stop. i tried to restart the engine but no help. i did not believe it but wanted be sure that no lack of fuel was the origin because i already had the problem with fuel sending unit problem which do not work properly to accurately show how much fuel is on the fuel tank. i got some extra fuel. we returned and poured the 1 gallon can , then i tried to star the engine. it cranked but no starting. i called my insurance requesting towing service . i tried two more times and after that the engine started roughly and hesitating. after 2 minutes and stabilized i decided to continue. i called my insurance company to cancel the towing service . decided to continue on i-45 but on the extreme right hand side line. i arrived home with no other issues and after parking on my driveway, shut down the engine, then i tried to restart it but nothing . only cranking good but no starting at all. finally after some like 10 seconds of cranking, the engine hesitated but started. i took it to autozone , they scanned it and gave me the codes p043 for the failed fuel sendin unit ( fuel level sensor ) and the code p0335 which is problem with the circuit or signal or sensor crankshaft. i made search to find it and today, sunday 29, after several hours, finally removed and replaced it. after this the truck starts very good as usually before the stalling experiences. cost was some like 23 dollar but the risk in what i was and exposing others has no price. is necessary to have a crash or fatal results for you to consider this a recall to protect others? *tr
Radiator leaked antifreeze into the transmission. transmission has to be rebuilt/ replace and radiator has to be replaced. *tr
We where driving on the highway when the trucks engine started to make noises and losing speed. it didn't give any warning, and it completely stopped running. the mechanics diagnostic was " c/s transmission wont move and mil is on.vehicle needs a transmission and radiator due to an internal leak from the cooling system in to transmission" we took it to the nissan agency because of the warranty but they refused to respect the warranty even though i have i have two diagnostics from different mechanics explaining that i have that same problem, nissan is not making its self responsible even though its trucks have a factory defect. *tr
Vibration in motor like driving over grooved pavement - on and off again for months before realizing it was the radiator and transmission problem that occurs in these trucks and suv's. i don't want to pay $6,000 to fix a defect. they should pay no matter when it happens. *tr
Sudden loss of power/stalling. check engine light came on as well as anti-slip light. took vehicle same day to nissan dealership. truck actually stalled on the way to the dealership however i was able to get it started again. diagnosed the problem as a bad cam shaft sensor. sensor was replaced. they also mentioned that transmission fluid was contaminated with engine coolant. suggested repair was to replace the radiator and the transmission-$4800. i chose to just replace the cam sensor. three days later, 8/9, lost power at highway speed. radiator and hoses leaked and had to be towed to dealership. again dealership suggested replacing the radiator as well as the transmission. replaced radiator and hoses, flushed transmission twice. i plan to dispose the truck. there were no warning signs prior to these two incidents. my opinion is that this is definitely a manufacturing/engineering defect. *tr
Radiator ruptured and coolant leaked into transmission causing transmission problems and had to be fixed. transmission performance declined and then could not drive vehicle. *tr
I started noticing my automatic nissan frontier having problems shifting gears around november of 2012. i eventually took the truck into a dealership to take a look at it after receiving paperwork in regards to a lawsuit nissan is encountering due to radiator leaks. when i took the truck into the dealer they told me this did not have anything to do with radiator leak. they quoted me 5,000 in repairs. i did not have the money to fix the problem so i continued to drive it until july 12th it finally gave out. i was getting off of the freeway and as i was stopping at the red light to get off of the freeway the truck started to feel like it was going to give and it started shaking, it jerked suddenly and almost caused the car behind me to crash into my bumper, i put a little more gas into the truck and made it into the parking lot of the nearest place around. as i was going to park it finally gave out for good. i called a local towing company and they took the car back my house, i called up a mechanic to come to the house and examine the truck and he advised me of the radiator leak, the one the nissan dealership denied having. i am very upset that they lied to me as well as nissan only extending the warranty to 80,000 miles when most people are experiencing this problem after that. i have aprox 118,000 miles, i will look for a lawyer to file a class action lawsuit against nissan. *tr
My 2005 frontier has never given me any problems until 2 days ago. the transmission started messing up. i came upon a 4 way stop & when i went to cross the road it was like i had it in neutral. i pulled over & stopped then tried to start again & it did the same thing. i've since heard & read about all the problems involving the coolant & transmission. the quotes i have received to fix this are outrageous. nissan should recall these vehicles because they know they have a problem with them. not a happy customer anymore. *tr
