I was coming up to a stop light and went to use the brakes and the pedal hesitated and would not grab normal like they usually do. the brake light was now on, so i decided to pull over in a parking lot and try and look to see what was wrong. i turned the car off and opened the hood to make sure i had fluid and that there was nothing obvious. everything looked fine. i started the car back up and the brake light was not on anymore and the brakes were working. a few months went by and then it happened again. it has started to happen more frequently. i saw a trend where it would happen when i was driving for one-two hours on the highway and i would notice the brake light come on. i would make sure that i would start slowing down and trying to brake a lot sooner than i would normally have to. recently this has started to happen more frequently even when i am doing short distance driving near my home. i have been to three different shops to look at my brakes and even spent over $600 to get new brakes and check everything out and make sure they are working properly, but it started happening a week after. i was told that i would have to take this to a nissan dealer and that this is a manufacturer issue. i plan on bringing my armada to a dealer later this week. i fell unless the brakes are not working right when i bring it in, they will not do anything. the brake pedal / brakes not working when i go to brake have happened well over 25 times in the past year. i hope it does not take something tragic to happen for nissan to address this and issue a recall. *tr
As i am driving my 2006 nissan armada, my brake light illuminates on my dashboard and i loose braking power. clunking/springing noises simultaneously begin. it becomes very difficult to stop the vehicle. when the vehicle is turned off and on, the problem disappears. there is no common factor as to when this problem occurs. recently, the vehicle was reprogrammed - a repair nissan indicated would fix the problem. yet, the problem continues to occur and nissan is unable or unwilling to determine the cause of the problem to date. a search of the internet shows that this problem is quite common for owners of 2006 nissan armadas, give or take a few years. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that when the brake was depressed, the brake warning light illuminated and the brake exhibited an abnormal grinding noise. the contact stated that the brake system reset to normal when the vehicle was turned off for a moment. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. the dealer reprogrammed the computer system however the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer had an engineer test drive the vehicle, who was able to duplicate the failure. the dealer checked the tire pressure, adjusted the brake fluid level, serviced the rotors and bled the brakes but to no avail. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph and completing a left turn, the brake warning light illuminated. the contact mentioned that when pressure was applied to the brake pedal it would make a loud sound and activate the abs system. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 97,000.
Brake light flickered and, when brake was applied it made a loud grinding sound with greatly reduced braking power. it happened several other times and i took it to nissan dealer, they said it was low brake fluid. this has happened twice again with the fluid level at proper amount. took it to nissan dealer and they say it is a bad brake booster. a review of armada and nissan titan message boards reveals that this is a common (and very dangerous) problem that is known to nissan. *tr
I bought this 2006 nissan armada brand new. i have had the same problem with the brakes several times already. the brake light goes on and a griding noise comes out when i hit the brakes. i took it the nissan dealer and they said it sofware issue when it was still under warranty and they upgraded the software and it worked for couple of years then again and again, i spend about $160 each time to correct the software now. this time they said it needs some parts and softwhere upgrade about $750, so i parked the car and i'm looking for other alternatives. any one know of a recall related to this issue. *js
During normal driving brake light suddenly comes on. braking power is severely reduced and there is a loud mechanical noise. after turning the engine off the fault resets itself and disappears. this has happened twice in the last year. this is unpredictable and could easily cause a crash if it happened at the wrong time. *tr
First occurrence noted in nov 2011. while driving, had sudden loss of braking power, with brake light on, groaning noise, stiff braking motion. was able to stop vehicle, although with greatly reduced power. turned vehicle off, and problem was gone upon restarting. took it in to dealer, who reprogrammed vdc. this did not fix the problem. have had re-occurrence on numerous occasions, but noting increasing frequency. had front brakes replaced last week. noted same problem driving home from brake replacement. called two area nissan dealers today, and was told they were completely unfamiliar with this problem. please keep in mind that i had the vdc reprogrammed at one of these dealerships in 2011. i have researched this problem, and see countless other consumers have had the same experiences. i would like to know how to fix this problem, definitively. *tr
My wife has experienced our nissan 06 armada losing braking power. it first started about a year ago and she didn't say anything because she thought it was just a brake issue. have had it to a brake shop on several occasions and have found nothing wrong. it has happened to me twice this week. i then went on a nissan forum and other internet sites to see that hundreds of people have had the same issue with nissan armada brake/abs issues. this is a major concern for us as an owner and should be to anyone reading this post. the brake light comes on while braking and it comes out of now where..i was on a flat surface heading to a red light... the abs kicked in and the braking power went to about 30 %. the brake pedal was only engaged about 1/3 of the distance and grinding started and continue till i came to a stop i had to manually shift down in order to stop at the red light. i set my flashers, turned the ignition off and got out.. didn't see or sense anything out of the ordinary other than i had very little braking power and brakes were grinding..turned the car back on and the lights went off and the brakes worked fine. i know the pads and rotors are good, just had them checked on my state inspection. this is alarming because this is my wife's car and she drivers our kids around in it... something needs to be done to keep this incident from becoming something much worse... i sense it is a sensor issue or something to do with that because it comes out of no where while braking. *tr
This experience happened yesterday, september 3, 2013 with my family in traffic. i'm entering this report for the time it first happened when i was driving although it has happened more times for my wife who is the primary driver. in total this has happened over 10 times. one september 6, 2011 i was dropping kids off in school where the teachers control how we approach and allow the kids to get out of the car. i was in the next group to pull forward. as i attempted to brake, there was not any reduction in speed. the brakes made a hollow metal scraping sound but did not stop the car. i ran into the car in front of us since there was way to turn with school kids on both sides of the car. we got out and determined the suv i hit was not damaged and we settled the accident with a lunch since we were friends. my front bumper was scraped cosmetically since the other vehicle had a trailer hitch. after restarting the car, i could not duplicate the problem. i have personally had this experience about 5 times in random speeds up to 40 mph approaching lights. i have always had to find a way to not harm people or crash. i've even driven over curbs into sidewalks avoiding people. my wife has had this experience more than myself. it's an amazing flaw in the vehicle that i've found no answer to online or at the 6 to 8 dealers i've asked. nissan dealers only recommend service, act sympathetic and wait for you to back off the issue. wow, i was amazed this is noted so much in this nhtsa database but not an investigation, recall, etc. this is an amazing problem that i've spoke about with any nissan or infiniti owner i can and they have all had it happen and they have several crash avoidance stories. *jb
As i was driving entering the interstate from the on ramp a car in front of me hit their brakes. as i went to apply my brakes they made a loud grinding sound, the brake light flashed and the brakes did not work. i had to swerve to the shoulder to avoid a crash. drove car to nearest nissan dealership doing approx 20mph and avoiding other vehicles. when i got there i shut off vehicle and had the service dept test drive, but the problem had reset itself once the vehicle was shut off and restarted (found this out online afterwards when researching and discovering this is a common problem with armadas.) they said there was nothing they could do since the problem could not be replicated. this has since happened three more times and nissan is still refusing to assist with fixing the problem. *tr
On a regular normal perfect to drive day, brake becomes spongy and making a compressed-spring like noise. will not stop car right away. had to turn engine and restart to get rid of problem. on occasion, abs light come on. *tr
I've own my used nissan armada for (4) years. a month after i had it the vehicle brake light warning came on and i had no brakes. when i applied brakes the peddle went all the way to the floor making a loud crunching sound. i pulled over and turn off the vehicle and on again and it all went away as if nothing happen. the engine and the truck somehow resetted itself. i've taken this to the dealer several time and they said there was nothing wrong with my vehicle. i still have this vehicle and have not gotten rid of it yet due to the fact its now paid for. its july 2013 and the vehicle is still doing the same thing but more often. i'm thinking about getting rid of it if there is no recall. i'm wondering if nissan is waiting for someone to get killed before they recall these vehicles. i see that i'm not the only one having this problem. *tr
Original complaints filed july 31st and october 22, 2015, respectively. a response has been received from the insurance company regarding their decision of supplemental repairs, odi #10745373 and #10781329, as it relates to the vehicle safety determination after the collision loss in november 2010. i forwarded the dmv-349 and additional documents by mail to the nhtsa address provided previously.
My husband and i were driving back home and our nissan armada breaks failed. senor lights flash on and off all the time. clicking sound when driving parked etc. horrible sound from under vehicle, as i'm driving. steering wheel shakes even after a wheel alignment. city streets and highway. i have taken the car to nissan and they just brush it off and say there is nothing wrong with the car take it for a long drive.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that the brakes failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the delta sensor and brake booster assembly were replaced however, the failure later recurred. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited a loud, abnormal noise when applying the brakes. in addition, the vehicle failed to stop. the brake warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but they were not able to determine a failure. the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop where the brake pads where replaced however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 35,000. the current mileage was 60,000.
Approximately middle of 2009, was pulling up to stop sign and the brakes did not want to stop and made a horrible crunch sound with peddle all the way down the vehicle eventually stopped. contacted nissan and made arrangements for a dealer to look at it. of course it doesn't do this all the time, but when it does it is very frightening...they supposedly reset the sensor and said that it may ifs the problem then again not...went on a forum and there is several owners of this same type of vehicle...since the it has happen several times. i made a compliant with you people and nissan. it should be a recall...this is an on going problem. our vehicle is garage kept and low miles. we bought for pulling our toy hauler which we now don't feel safe to pull with this continuous issue...nissan knows there is an issue and does nothing but trying to get us to pay a 1,000.00 plus to replace the break booster and sensor with no promises do curing the problem.....please, what does it take to have a recall before there is a serious fatal accident. thank you. *tr
I was driving and suddenly the brake lights came on and their was a loud grinding noise, when i press the brake it was hard to stop the vehicle. i pulled off the road and the vehicle eventually stopped. i turn off the veh and restart and the problem went away. this have happened several times over the year with the vehicle. i brought to the dealership and was told i need a new brake pads, i had new brake pads installed and the issue just kept on happening. this is definitely a manufacturing defect with the brake system. i finally brought my vehicle to a different dealership and im being told that the issue is within the brake booster. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to brake with the illumination of the brake warning light. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 12,000. *tr
We were on i75 rush hour , we had been stopping and going for about 5 min at that point then all of a sudden we pressed the brake it sounded like grinding and squealing, with very little breaking control. we didn't think we were going to get off the road safely. we took it to the dealer they said they fixed it... not ... now we have been stuck paying for a vehicle we can't drive or sell. something must be done about this. why no recalls ? how many people have to complain or get hurt until nissan steps up to the plate. *tr
Brakes are making a noise and the abs, vdc and slip lights are coming up on the dashboard. we have tried turning on and off vehicle. this made the lights go off at first. we have checked brake fluid. we have had the brakes inspected. no visible reason for this to occur. i have seen numerous reports on this same problem. why is my vehicle not covered in the ntb06-040 recall? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan armada. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph after attempting to engage the brakes, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle and the brake warning lamp illuminated. the contact mentioned that he was able to maintain control and after down shifting and was finally able to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster was defective and needed to be replaced. the failure recurred four years later . the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
Multiple times, our nissan armada has had incidents with the brakes. the brake pedal modulates/shutters, stopping distances are increased, and a loud vibration can be heard and felt from the front of the vehicle. i've done some research on this and found many other armada and titan owners have experienced this. see "armada delta stroke sensor" or "armada brake problem" in a google search. also, nissan has just settled a class action lawsuit: http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/12/26/64077.htm. this is an issue that affects the safety of these vehicles and should be addressed. *tr
At 28,000 miles we were in our armada driving on a busy road, i went to make a right hand turn, used my brakes, and they went completely to the floor, eventually braking but there was a delay of two seconds or more. a major grinding noise also sounded off. all the brake lights, slip, etc came on. dealership said that my brake booster needed to be replaced. i was under the impression this was a manufactures defect since the brakes weren't stopping properly. the same exact thing happened again at 95k miles. i had my children with me this time!!!! i drove straight to pepboys,(which was closest to me). they told me they were getting a brake booster error! i called nissan corporate to find out what they could do. [xxx] opened case number [xxx]. she stated i had to take suv in to dealership. nissan confirmed it was a brake booster issue again! nissan stated they are not going to take ownership of this problem, because i'm out of warranty. this isn't a mileage or warranty issue!! nissan already made their decision not to cover the cost of the faulty part because it was replaced at 28k miles. but this is the 2nd time the brake booster needs replacement. doesn't anyone see there is a problem here?? i am asking for nissan to take accountability but they won't. this could have been life threatening in both circumstances because an accident could have occurred and nissan won't even take ownership and make this issue correct?? it's not the money that's at stake, it's a faulty part and my own safety! the sales man at nissan said 300-400 of these have been replaced already?! that should raise a red flag i would hope? i have encountered this two times now and nissan isn't owning up to the urgency in this matter! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Brake indicator on dash lights up, horrible grinding noise and car has very little braking ability. had to pull over and let car slowly coast to a stop. switched off engine set for a few minutes, restarted and vehicle was back to normal. multiple times. took in to dealer and was told could possibly be a brake booster at a cost of about 1000.00 .( 1000 dollar guess for a possible life threatening issue ???) looked in forum and found out that this is happening quite a bit but nissan is not doing anything to fix. are they waiting for someone to die before they do recall. car has been sitting for months . can't risk having family in car and not being able to stop at anytime. *tr
