We have classified the 88 complaints from 2016 Nissan Altima about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle shifted to first gear without warning. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road turned the vehicle off and waited for about 5 min to see if the vehicle would then resume normal operation. the vehicle failed to perform as intended. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken for a second opinion at another dealer however, it was confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted or made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle hesitated while the rpm gauge fluctuated. the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the speed was limited to approximately 30 mph. the contact stated that the check engine warning illuminated. the vehicle was taken to (auffenberg nissan1690 new car dr, o'fallon, il 62269, (618) 622-4521) where it was diagnosed and determined that the cvt (transmission) failed and needed to be replaced which was still pending. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Shaking, automatic slowing speed, pick up takes time, engine light on dealer said transmission issue cost 4850 plus tax. this is nissan altima 2016 only 71000. this is absolutely killing consumer finance. never ever nissan again.
Vehicle hesitates to move forward when stepping on gas. seems like it slips at highway speed
Stopped and when pulling out lost power and while driving lost power and rpm went really high it was like the transmission wouldn't shift turned vehicle off then was able to drive has done this several times within a week
Check engine light came on around same time car began to exhibit acceleration issues, like stalling, slipping into 2nd gear, and engine cut out when accelerating during both normal city and highway driving. sensors read by certified mechanic, and dealership indicated oxygen sensor failure and the dealership replaced the cvt transmission and the o2 sensor. after repairs and part replacements, 2 weeks later all of these problems began to reoccur. several mechanic recommended getting rid of the car as they can not resolve the issues and don't want to waste my time or money. contact art's automotive in berkeley california
Check engine light came on twice within 3 months of using this car. and it was one of the severe types of illness the car has, if not fixed i could've been stuck on a remote area with no phone reception, which where i live by the way. the car had a slow acceleration, when i stopped on a stop light/sign. had that fixed on december right before christmas week, but engine light came on again after 2 weeks of driving it, car won't shift gears again, slow acceleration, probably has something to do with its transmission etc.
I have a 2016 nissan altima with 85,000 miles that is currently experiencing some issues. i've found multiple people online that are having the same problem. the vehicle at times when pushing down the accelerator will not respond then suddenly take off like it's in 3rd gear. this has caused me too get stuck in intersections with no power and nearly causing accidents. nissan is saying there is no issue. how can this not be a safety recall?
2016 nissan altima has delayed acceleration. also, can hear a sizzle noise when driving making a turn, as if wire is shorting but no smell of burning wires; at this time. this is while driving, idling, street driving, and on highway; we are very concerned.
Car has the same judder code in the transmission but have been told the vin number was not specified as affected. car judders in slow and stop and go traffic and in parking lots. this seems to have become a problem with the software package for these transmissions and has affected more cars than the vin numbers that the recall is out for.
Started vehicle this morning and put in reverse and pressed the pedal to back out and had a delayed reaction and the rpm's just increased. the car did not move for approximately four to five seconds and finally backed out. placed the car in drive and drove toward a stop sign approximately 100 yards away and it seemed like it was losing power as i tried to accelerate and again the rpm's increased but seemed like it would not move. drove vehicle back home and with same issues and parked for about thirty minutes. tried to duplicate but drove just fine. this has happened before while at a red light about a couple of months ago. tried accelerating and would barely accelerate like it had no power. placed in park, cut the car off and back on and after a few minutes, i hit the accelerator and it darted off. luckily, there has been no accidents but have concerns if this happens while on a highway. this altima on has over 53k miles and have no idea why this is happening because i am not a mechanic but have read several statements on the internet from others with the same issue. not sure why nissan has not placed a recall on this issue but is very unsafe.
On multiple occasions, after coming to a complete stop vehicle would not accelerate after pushing the accelerator. in addition to this now the transmission will not up shift for road speed. vehicle, when placed in park or neutral, will rev up when accelerator is pushed but not while transmission is engaged in drive. again the acceleration problem has occurred multiple times over the past 4-6 months. the shifting episode occurred in addition to the afore mentioned problem today 20 oct 2019.
The car started shacking once it would go about 25-30 mph. the check engine light turned on after and it was read by a mechanic as a code p0841-transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch. this happens on city streets and highway driving.
I was on the highway and the car started jerking like it didn't want to go and i got off the highway because it was unsafe..made it to a stop light and the car didn't want to go..but it went after a couple of tries..i went shopping and got back on the highway to head home and the check engine light comes on and went to get it looked at and they tell me a lot of the nissan are having this same problem and it's the transmission which cost a lot of money..i have around 75,000 miles on my nissan altima
16 nissan altima sometimes has about a 5 second delay in acceleration as car just idles and slowly rolls ahead. this is very dangerous when you are taking off and crossing on coming traffic. took it to nissan dealer they said nothing they can do because it doesnt show an error code. same with nissan usa corperation. says nothing they can do untill shows a code or fails completely. so basicall they are saying that this vehicle is safe to drive? new transmission about 4500 dollars. my warranty runs out at 90,000 miles, wich is an aftermarket warranty that i paid 2500 $ for. im sure that they hope the warranty expires so i get the bill. nissan knows about problems with cvt transmissions, and footpedal position sensors and does nothing about it. how can they be in buisness? how van they tell me it is safe to drive like this. i think it should be a recall issue.
I had stopped at a red light, when it turned green my car stalled and wouldn't accelerate. once it did, it wouldn't pick up speed. car will go up to 4rpm and will only go 10-15 miles p/hr. no service light has appeared. this happened in city streets. this first happened two weeks ago and been happening every time i've driven the car, which has been three more times, have not driven it since.
Car started to lurch and whine while driving at any speed. two weeks later it got worse and started to lose power or fail to accelerate while driving. now vehicle will not go into gear most times. when it does it fails to move forward or backward, while pressing the gas pedal. mechanic informed me that the transmission is slipping and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
In march 2019 my vehicle had 54,000 miles. i was stopped at a light & when i hit the gas and the car jerked forward and would not accelerate, leaving me sit in traffic. it eventually moved. i took it to jones junction nissan and they "could not have an error code" for the problem, made me buy a carb kit to fix it. two months later, in may 2019, with 58,000 miles on my car, i was driving and the car stopped accelerating. it would not move when i hit the gas and i had to drift for 2 miles to an advance auto parts. when i turned the car off and then back on, it started working again, but would hesitate on occasion, particularly when stopped. i took it into the dealership again and they could not find an "error code" so refused to replace the transmission even though when the mechanic drove it, he also felt the hesitation. nissan had the dealership "re-program" the transmission and sent me on my way. nissan refused to replace the transmission. one month later i went in for an oil change and let the mechanic know if was still hesitating a little bit when i would being taking off from a stop. yesterday, august 26, with 62,000 miles on my car, it started hesitating and jerking on the highway as i was driving and would not accelerate again. i had to pull over, stop the car, restart it, but the problem continued. it did the same thing on the ride home, jerking every time i had my foot on the gas, and not accelerating at stop lights and in traffic. i've had the vehicle in to jones junction nissan 4 times now for the same issue. to date, they have not replaced the transmission - which is a cvt transmission - and after looking online i see there are multiple complaints and issues with this type of transmission. it has a problem that needs fixing! it is getting ridiculous that i have to take it in there so often for the same issue and nissan will not resolve it.
When car is cold it will run normal. when the car heats up the car will not take off. when driving its like you stomp on the brake then start again. took the car to auto zone and had them read the codes there were two transmition codes. so we took the car to the nissan dealer ship and there were a bunch of different codes. they told me i needed a oxygen sensor and a new transmition. almost 8 thousand dollars worth and the car only has 88000 miles. wow is all i am saying. out of pocket for a newer nissan and then dont have the money to get it fixed. vehicle is not covered under warranty. thank you nissan.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked, lunged forward, and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. hubler nissan (8435 us-31, indianapolis, in 46227, (317) 888-9227) was contacted to schedule a diagnostic appointment. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 87,000. *as
No recall by manufacturer, warranty not being honored because manufacturer did not issue recall. car is currently undrivable because transmission is gone.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate while maximum pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle eventually began to drive normally; however, the failure recurred fifteen minutes later. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to benton nissan of hoover (1640 montgomery hwy, hoover, al, (205) 938-6103), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was only provided warranty information. the failure mileage was 85,000.
On the 14th of june, 2019 i was driving to work. when suddenly i felt my car power decreasing as i pressed the gas. soon as that happen i new something was wrong so for my safety and other i took the nearest exited to local street and found a safe area to check my car. turn it off and back on and i started driving sgain it seemed like nothing happened but after about 10 later it completely lost power no matter how hard i pressed the gas. so i called a tow truck and we took to the repair shop and i found out that the transmission on my car has died and it will need to be replaced. and that will cost me alot of money. so i called a nissan dealership and they told me it will. cost me $3000 for new transmission. so my next option was to check with nissan if they will help me so i called the nissan customer service so they asked how much miles i had in the car and i told them 70,000 miles. but sadly they told me my warrant end at 60,000 miles. i need my car for work so at the end it took about a week to get it fixed and costed me around $2000. worst experience i have ever had to deal with with this car. what surprised me is that i always took good care of it since the first time i got it i made sure all maintenance that was needed for it was done but i was surprised that my transmission died at only 70,000 miles. so hopefully this help in anyway for other who have the same issue.
Vehicle was at an intersection, i stepped on the accelerator pedal and the vehicle had minimal power. i it moved very little, then finally it moved normally. i was scared oncoming traffic would hit me because the vehicle had no acceleration. the car has 70k miles. this problem has happened 4 times in the last month.
Car started hesitating while driving 75 on the interstate and lost power went to 10 mph then the rpms will go up but the car hesitates and jerks service engine light came on had it tested its the transmission fluid sensor which cant be replaced the whole transmission has to be replaced and this car has less then 80000 miles thats insane
Transmission problem for miles over 60,000. when at stop light and try to accelerate when the light changes, car does not move when accelerator is pressed. while driving, car does not switch gears and car slows down. this is a very dangerous situation for the driver and passengers. if you are driving one of these cars, it will be deadly one day. i don't understand how these vehicles can be sold. after many people lose their lives, someone will notice. this car is dangerous on city streets and also interstate driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact parked on the side of the road and turned off the ignition. when the vehicle was restarted, it resumed normal operation. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 55,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. the contact stated that three days after the vehicle underwent a routine oil change, the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed to properly change over for the vehicle to accelerate. the vehicle went from 65 mph to less than 45 mph, which caused the risk of a crash. the vehicle was driven cautiously to the contact's residence and then towed to priority nissan richmond (16301 priority way, chester, va 23831, (804) 414-0550). the dealer diagnosed that the cvt needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from an extended warranty based on the mileage. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000. *bf the consumer stated vehicle repaired on 05/03/19 prior to breakdown. *tr
I purchased a 2016 nissan altima in 2017. after about 60,000 miles i noticed it started to jerk when i accelerated. since my oxygen sensor needed to be replaced i thought that was the issue. once i hit 70,000 miles my transmission completely went out on me. just 10,000 miles over their factory warranty. nissan has extended their power train warranty in the past. however, since my car is a 2016 it is not covered in that warranty extension. there are numerous complaints about their cvt transmissions. rather than fixing the issue they extended it on older models, and left everyone else to fix it on our own dime. nissan should be held accountable for everyone of their vehicles not just a select few older models. i have owned a nissan for 12 years. never ever again will i purchase another nissan. since they obviously do not care about the people that purchase their vehicles
The car has a problem shifting rpm runs high and when i push gas pedal down to the ground it does not have speed and rolled back going uphill from a stop due to this problem. obdii code p0776
My altima started having acceleration issue, took to nissan dealer who advised a transmission issue. told me it was covered under warranty. found out a new transmission was needed and covered under an extended plan i paid for; not covered by nissan at all. car had 79k miles on it. a reman replaced as sy(what ever this code means)
Cvt transmission slipping, delayed changing of gears, no response of gas pedal. my altima rolls into traffic with me pressing the gas there is a 3-5 second delay before taking off. very dangerous. no one was able to recreate the problem but now it won't shift. it revs high and will not transfer to wheels.
The transmission does not shift properly. after engine is warm, when you push the gas pedal, there is about 5-6 second delay before car will go. if you accelerate to get onto highway from on ramp, it makes a rattling sound. it is getting too dangerous to drive it, since you are not able to predict when it will do this. this always seems to happen if i am in rush hour traffic.
Cvt had internal failures resulting in a sudden not shifting, shuddering, and slipping, on major highways.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. check engine light, transmission failed at 60 mph, lacked forward power. transmission did not shift properly vehicle unsafe due to lack of motive power taken to advance auto for diagnostic. pressure sensor switch transmission needed to be replaced. while driving at approximately 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle lost motive power. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed of the diagnostic code: p0841 (electronic pressure control solenoid sensor). the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $4,000 parts and labor. the vehicle was not repaired. nissan of elizabeth city located at 1712 n road st, elizabeth city, nc 27909, (252) 338-5161 was contacted. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. piir=y. ah
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. the contact stated that there was an intermittent failure and the transmission failed to change gears, when necessary, in any gear. the rpms increased from 1,500 to 4,000; however, the speed reduced from 80 to 40 mph. the contact was unable to safely drive the vehicle due to the failure and drastic reduction in speed. goodman chevrolet cadillac nissan (1003 happy valley rd, glasgow, ky 42141, (270) 678-1300), jim johnson nissan (2200 scottsville rd, bowling green, ky 42104, (270) 781-6770), and an independent certified mechanic were contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
Takata recall. my car started messing up after i came back from texas. it was doing fine until it started losing power. when i press the gas it was going slow and i could press it all the way to the floor and it wouldn't move. the dealer that i got it from (car king) have went out of business and they are in a lot of trouble.
2016 nissan altima 2.5sr cvt transmission failure at 26k miles. while in motion going freeway speeds, vehicle suddenly loses power when attempting to maintain cruising speed and rpms fluctuated intensely up and down. felt very unsafe while trying to pull over to the shoulder and feared other vehicles could have struck me while having no control over vehicle speed. brought vehicle into nissan dealership and confirmed it is an issue with cvt transmission requiring $4k cvt transmission repair, luckily covered under 5 year, 60k mile warranty. this issue seems common with other owners of the cvt transmission and should have its powertrain cvt transmission warranty extended on newer models to 10 years, 120,000 miles just like the 2003-2010 year models with the cvt have received.
I have an intermittent problem when i'm driving where all of a sudden i can't accelerate. i'll have the pedal to the floor but nothing absolutely nothing happening. the gas pedal is fully depressed and yet the car slows down the way it would if you took your foot off the gas. this has happened 5 times over the past month. bought this car new 2 years ago. i should not be having a problem like this. i've been to 2 dealerships and they both tell me they aren't getting a code so they can't see anything wrong. one of the nissan mechanics road tested it with me and experienced the problem but i'm still being told that there is nothing wrong. i suspect something is wrong with the cvt. i'm terrified to drive it because i don't know when it will happen. this is very dangerous. it's happened at all speeds - 5 mph in a parking lot, 30 mph on the street, 45-60 mph on the highway. most recently it happened on the highway at 60 mph. the rpm went way up but the car would not accelerate and i couldn't get it to go above 60 mph.
I stopped at a light and proceeded to go forward and the car would not accelerate so i pushed hard on the accelerator and the car just took off. i was on a city street. i took it to my mechanic and he said that it's a problem with the transmission. i then took the car to the nissan dealer and they ran a free test and said that i would have to pay $130 to get a diagnostic test. that would let me know if it is the transmission. we purchased the car nine months ago at 30,000 miles and now it is over 60,000 mile s. the warranty has expired at 60,000 miles. nissan know there is a problem with the transmission and you have drivers with complaints. it is just a matter of time when their cars will hesitate and someone is going to lose their life. my car is not the only one. families are going to be traveling and these cars hesitate. that is going to be a deadly situation. i don't feel safe driving this car. i will never purchase another nissan.
My vehicle's cvt transmission failed at 97,000 miles. i experienced the same symptoms everyone else has experienced with this transmission - vibrations, wildly fluctuating rpms and frequent downshifts. within a matter of a few days the transmission started slipping. i feel lucky i wasn't killed when my vehicle's transmission slipped while i was attempting to cross traffic. after my local nissan dealer quoted me a price of $4,087 for a transmission replacement, i called nissan customer care and requested they cover the replacement cost of the cvt but they refused. no three-year-old, normally-driven vehicle under 100,000 miles should ever have its transmission fail. the nissan cvt problem is a national travesty. i was a nissan customer for life but will never purchase nor endorse their vehicles ever again.
At 61,000 miles (just 1000 miles after the warranty expired), the cvt transmission failed while vehicle was in motion. it started as a knocking that occurred while shifting gears. the next day, the engine violently fluctuated between gears while going ~60 mph on the highway. it then remained in the high gear after the vehicle came to a stop at a red light.
This vehicle was purchased new from anderson nissan - lake havasu city, az and we also purchased the extended warranty (up to 60,000 miles). at approximately 64,000 miles the transmission broke down completely. when this was towed to the originating dealership, we specifically asked if there were any "known transmission issues" with this vehicle make/model/year. we were only told "this can sometimes happen". we have since learned that there has been a class action suit against nissan for this specific issue. anderson-nissan charged us $3700 to repair the transmission and is not accepting any responsibility or replying to any emails as to their lack of transparency regarding transmission issues.
'takata recall' i have the 2016 nissan altima i bought it on february 28,2019 and on march 2, 2019 while driving it at 35 miles per hour the transmission wouldn't shift from first gear reving up past 6 on the mark started to jerk and so i took it to a transmission shop they couldn't find anything wrong with it on there scanner they said that models 2012-2016 altima's and versa are having issues shutting down while driving and brakes fail and transmissions do that once car gets somewhat hot nissan needs to recall these cars and fix the issues i've seen it on the news of others complaints and online but nissan still to my knowledge hasn't issued the recall nissan is supposed to be a great car that's why i bought it i've owned the titan no issues and a nissan maxima no real issues either i trust nissans the most to be safe and reliable i have children i can't be stuck because of nissans refusal to make these repairs
The car is barely 3 years old and i brought it new with only 8 miles. the car started hesitating while in stop and go traffic on the interstate. that's where i noticed the hesitation first. the issue occurs on the highway, city streets, turning, and car has had issues while in motion. when in stop and go traffic, stopped at a stop sign or have to stop to make a turn the car hesitates about 5-10 seconds and then takes off. this has caused me to almost be in several accidents. i thought it was bad gas so switched gas stations and it stopped for a while and then started back. while driving came to a stop to make a left turn. the car hesitated and then when the turn was complete the car would not accelerate pass 40mph. i came to another stop sign, car hesitated, and car would not accelerate pass 20mph. i had to pull over turn the car off and back on. it started accelerating properly but still with the hesitation from a stop. i took the car to nissan and they did a diagnostic test for $125 which led them to say that the valve body needs to be replaced or the car needs a new cvt. the dealership request another $400 to inspect the transmission to see which way it could be fixed. ($1100 valve body and $4000 cvt replaced. this is very costly and a 2016 car should not need a transmission. there is a known problem with nissan's cvt that i was not aware of until now. among other things the service advisor advised that this just happens. well it should not just happen in a 3 year old car.
We purchased this car last may and shortly there after may be a couple of months after i start experiencing delays on acceleration. i drive on the highway so i use the cruise control. so when i started experiencing the delay on acceleration i stop using the cruise control, because i thought that was the issue. to shorten a long story after i stop using the cruise control, the issue remained. i'm going to go more in depth about the issue. for example, i am stopped at the stop light. when the light turns green, i accelerate nothing happens for a few seconds there's a delay for about four to 5 seconds and then acceleration commences in the rpms go way up. at this time i have to let up off the excelerator and ease into acceleration now. every time i go to accelerate the rpms go way up the transmission does not want to go into the next gear. i have to pull over to the side of the road turn off the car to re-boot it. most of the time this works sometimes it doesn't. so about a week ago i was driving having the same issue and then the check engine light comes on. now i have codes to take to the dealership. when i take the car to the dealership for diagnostics, transmission related codes come up and now the car needs a new transmission. when i purchased this car it was about 49,000 miles on it. i started having this issue well before i got to 60,000 miles. 60,000 miles is the cut off for nissan's powertrain warranty. if i had gotten the codes before 60,000 miles, it would be covered on under nissan's warranty. my girlfriend checked on car complaints.com and noticed that there are several other nissan owners with the same issue. i respectfully request an investigation for recall on this matter. thank you very much for your time and consideration, (xxxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Had the vehicle checked out at the local dealer due to the rpm's jumping on the freeway at high speed. told all was well, no problems. a week later my car lost all power pulling out into oncoming traffic with my daughter in the car. had the vehicle towed to another dealer and was told it needed a new transmission. i have been made aware that many others have had this problem as well. this must be addressed. myself and my daughter are very lucky!
On wednesday 1/30/2019 my daughter was driving north on i-17 entering flagstaff when the transmission stopped working. the engine was reving to about 6000 rpm but the car would only go about 5 mph. she managed to get the car to a parking lot and call me for help. after about 30 minutes the transmission cooled down and worked normally. i had her take the car to a local shop and have it checked out. they got a code p0776. they contacted nissan and found the car to be under an extended warranty that i purchased until 100,000 miles. my daughter drove home the next day and we took it into pinnacle nissan where i purchased the car. they could not get the code to come up so are unable to fix the transmission. this is about the tenth time that the transmission has slipped, this being the most severe. pinnacle nissan and nissan usa are telling me to continue to drive the vehicle until the warning light comes on, then bring the vehicle in for a transmission replacement. i told them both that the warning light has never come on when the transmission slips, so could there be a problem with the cars computer also which is why they can not get a code to come up? they said no, that is not happening?
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 nissan altima. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle failed to regain acceleration in a timely manner. the failure was experienced numerous times. an unknown dealer was called and stated that they were unable to perform a diagnostic if the engine indicator was not illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Occasion delayed engagement when taking off and sluggishness at acceleration. car slowly takes off at high rpms and makes sounds as if in wrong gear. after turning off car, after about 10-20 mins car shifts properly.
