We have classified the 387 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Hesitate when put in gear sometimes when accelerated does not move have to turn it on and off then it will move was taken to ammco transmission rebuild or replace only 45,000 miles 2013. was taken to nissan on 04/18/2013 for inspection was told nothing is wrong with vehicle
I bought used 2013 nissan altima car like 2 yr 6 months. recent i faced jerk condition and suddenly went break down. given nissan show room, they confirmed its transmission issue. it's not under warranty. need to replace. it's cost 5500. still have a loan of 8500. if there any options i can go with i'm in idle position. if i go through law firm can i replace the transmission for free ??
I have a 2013 nissan altima and my transmisson has started slipping, i have 100,000 miles on my car and have stayed on top of my mantince. out of nowhere i get in my car and started driving it and it started jerking, shifting gears slowly and vibrating. i have had transmission flushes during my maintance check-ups. i took it for a diagnostic check and was told it was my sensors going bad. i get that fix to find out i need a transmission and to find out nissian are known for transmission problems. i am very unhappy about this due to how well i have taken care of my car. i contacted nissan to ask about transmission recalls and was told no.
Transmission was broken. my car (altima 2013) was stopped on the driveway to the parking lot at the train station and i had to call towed away company to get it to nissan service. nissan service says the transmission box must be replaced with estimated cost of about $4,500.
When i start my car and shift the gear from n (neutral) to d (drive), and then press the accelerator, the engine stops. my car stopped in the city signal and i was shocked. i turned on the emergency indicator immediately and somehow managed to accelerate and move the car to a safe place. also when driving i am seeing fluctuation in acceleration. when at rest in signals, my car engine makes vibrations. i have driven my car only for 53000 miles but i am out of warranty by 4 months. i have clean carfax history. i have good driving record. i have done all the recommended services. still i get this problem. the multi inspection check they do during every service is superficial at best. its free of charge for a reason. i am not sure why nissan doesn't admit this issue and fix this free of charge for customers. this has been a recurring issue with nissan altima 2013 and i am surprised there is no recall issued by nissan.
Air bag lite keeps going off was rekey by nissan dealer want me to pay for airbag module $3700 nissan states they would pay half month ago, this is a defective part this is not acceptable, i am a disabled veteran now power as of 3/29/19 is going out after 98,000 cvt trans many consumer complains filed for defective transmissions
Their has been many complains on this cvt transmission breaking down between 62,000 miles and 99000 miles it is defective nissan will do nothing and will not acknowledge defective transmission or powertrain and will not pay to replace any it's a major problem and safety, i am a disabled veteran and was stranded many other consumers have experienced the same and also problems with airbags modules
Transmission judder, primarily at lower speed, while accelerating slightly car does not react and then judders and shakes and accelerates; rpm go up and down wildly
I have owned this vehicle for the past 4 years and the car was running great. it has about 120k miles and all of a sudden the cars rpm was jumping while driving. it was driving normally then out of no where it has loss of acceleration almost causing a crash due to people behind me on the main road. had the cvt fluid changed out and the car was okay for 2 days then again it would not go up the hill. called the dealership and no recall or tsb for the transmission problem.
On the way home as i exited highway my 2013 altima 79000 miles started jerking upon slowing down to stop, on the move as well as when fully stopped. next day i took it to the dealer ken ganley medina ohio, the car showed even more symptoms and totally stalled right in front of service door and wouldn't start. similar problem happened in january 2016 at 59900 and then the same dealership service reset transmission module. the car was driving normal until now. only this time i paid $177 for diagnostics just to hear what i already suspected: internal transmission failure. cost of replacement $3995 plus tax. on the way home, my car completely died and had to be towed home. from 2012 to 2018, several modoels of nissan vehicles received the continuously variable transmission, including the sentra, versa, versa note, altima, rogue, and murano models. some of the most common issues with the vehicles directly relate to the transmission. reported issues include loss of power, transmission jerking, transmission slipping, cvt coolant hose leaks and failures, and a cvt error message being displayed. these problems call the nissan cvt transmission reliability into question and can result in serious harm to unsuspecting drivers. nissan extended the warranty on some of these vehicles equipped with the cvt transmission from 5 years or 60,000 miles to 10 years or 120,000 miles. the extension covers repairs, replacements, and towing for issues related to the continuously variable transmission. for the warranty to be effective, vehicle owners must take their nissan to a dealership for repairs. strangely enough, my vin doesn't fall (?) under that category even it showed exact same failure. the dealer refused to follow that warranty in terms of replacement and/or providing a loaner car.
Cvt transmission failed in highway traffic.
Call stalls and jerks when coming to a stop, and engine then cuts out and dies. car then has trouble re-starting and loses power. appears to be a transmission failure. car is a 2013 and only at around 60k miles. extremely dangerous. there should be a recall on the cvt transmission of the 2013 nissan altima - a very well-documented problem.
My car was diagnosed with transmisdion issues yesterday at my nissan dealership. i had no warniing for my 2013 nissan altima. it appears to be a defect in this transmission model. i have reviewed several complaints on line about this 2013 nissan transmission issue. my car stalled on the highway and was blessed know one hit me. now i have to put out money for a transmission. i am on a fix income. nissan should look at these complaints and recall issues with the 2013 nissan altima transmission and assist in reimbursing those that had to replace this detective transmission. this is serious and can cause a major accident if your car stalls on a highway.. i am a loyal customer and have kept my car maintained.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph and the engine revved as it was coasted off the road. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for a tune-up and was subsequently towed to crown nissan dealer (866-239-1758, located at 5151 34th st n, st. petersburg, fl 33714) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a seventy-five percent discount off the repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
Transmission began making grinding, rumbling sound and some vibration while in motion at 36,000 miles. nissan provided no help.
Two hours from home car shut off on highway, after it start shaking during shifts. after tow to service station, then to dealership, and home it was determined to be bad transmission with 60,000 miles on vehicle. this is a known and common issue with this model.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the transmission was faulty. the vehicle would jolt forward, transmission fluid was leaking, and the vehicle powered down at will. in addition, the service transmission indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new transmission was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Unable to release vehicle from p position by pressing the brake. the bypass button has to be pressed in order to release.
Vehicle's transmission causes engine to shut off while driving and at idle (while waiting for a traffic light). also causes violent shaking when accelerating. nissan has a "recall" to reprogram the transmission module stating that it it is not done transmission damage will happen. however was never notified and it seems to appear this notice came out only in the last 2 years. meaning nissan knows the transmission is being damaged. brought the car into the dealership and they told menit needed a new transmission ($4400). called nissan of north america where they decided to deny any claim to replace the tranmission... even though as i previously stated they knew this issue was causing damage to the transmission. have tried to reach back out to nissan and had to leave a message asking my "rep" to call me back the next day.... which she never did of course.
Car will not shift out of park while in stationary mode.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. when the vehicle was shifted from the park position into drive, it failed to move. in addition, when the gear shifter was moved into reverse, the vheicle failed to drive. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was taken to st. charles nissan (located at 5625 veterans memorial pkwy, st peters, mo 63376) where it was diagnosed that the torque converter failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 34414336. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
While driving the car just died all of a sudden. i was in traffic and good thing and not on highway. i started it again, only to die again after putting into drive. there was jerky, shuddered and hesitation. it died three times before i could pull to the side of the road. it was ok for about a week and now it happens daily. while accelerating or coming to a stop, it shakes, jerks, shudders, vibrates. very spooky. i am afraid of it dying on me on the highway. not safe at all. took it to the dealer and they said it is the cvt control valve body which i understand is very common with 2013 & 2014 altimas. repair cost will be $1,700. i only have 49,000 miles on it. but because i owned it for more than five years, i am told it is not covered on warranty. this is not fair. nissan is well aware of this consistent problem and they should be paying for this. all nissan altima owners need your assistance to make nissan accountable. i understand there are class action lawsuits due to this same problem. thank you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima 2.5. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds there was an abnormal whining and grinding sound coming from the transmission. there were no warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission bearing failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer hugh white chrysler dodge jeep ram (250 columbus rd suite a, athens, oh 45701 (740) 594-8555) where it was diagnosed for the 2nd time and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. the repair was still pending. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay 80% of the repair cost. a case was also opened with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
At 55,000 miles the car stalled while driving. i was at a stop light when it stalled. was able to restart, but every time it was put into drive, it stalled again. entire transmission required replacement.
My 2013 nissan altima's cvt is faulty. the transmission causes the vehicle to shutter at any speed and randomly shuts off. additionally, at a moments notice it will rev up in rpms and not go anywhere. it stalls in traffic which has caused a significant safety concern. this occurs while driving at all speeds. it has happened on highways, city streets and simply backing out of my driveway.
While driving on city street, vehicle started to shudder and jerk eventually dying in the middle of the road while traveling with a toddler and wife in the car. was lucky we were not hit by cars behind us and we managed to restart the car and steer away. nissan dealership identified an issue with the transmission but were not able to reproduce the problem to provide evidence for claiming warranty. my car has 48.450 miles on it and was purchased new in nov 2012. dealership returned the car asking me to come back when problem becomes more frequent. i am forced to drive a car with transmission issues and risking myself to an accident.
When coming to a red light on a one lane highway with a light. light turned red, when coming to a stop, the car began shaking. i was behind another car and was afraid because the car was shuttering, jerkin, shaking so much i did not feel like i had control of the car. once i stopped, the car engine shut off. the light turned green, but i was unable to move my car. when i tried to start the car, it would run in park, but when i put it in drive, it would stall out. i was stranded in the middle of an intersection. i could move by car by slight inches every time i restarted the engine and would stall out. just enough to move the major of my car out of the intersection. eventually, the battery died and i was towed to a local mechanic. this problem started the day before when i was going to work. i also, took my vehicle to the nissan dealership i had bought the vehicle from months prior, because the car would shake and shut off when i came to complete stops at street light and stop signs. after, a diagnostic test i was told nothing was wrong. at that time, i was under warranty, i no longer am.
Transmission failed at 65k mileage
The vehicle will stutter and sometimes stall when stopped and in drive. it is also often sluggish when accelerating. i have had it in for service a number of times, the most recent indicating it is likely a transmission issue and the cvt will need to be replaced. the issue started in spring, 2017, but has gotten worse recently. i have noticed there is a technical service bulletin associated with this condition (ntb 15-086g).
Cvt judder - code p17f1
Transmission failed, car being to jerk and jerk then ride out smoothly this happened over a period of time,(5-6 months) then finally it got so bad that you could barely drive the car. now the care will not drive it stalls and barely move when put in gear, transmission has failed.
When vehicle is put in gear it stalls. nissan service department examined and is transmission failure. now needs a new transmission. vehicle has only 56,000 miles. while driving vehicle was on way to doctor appointment as i was stopping at light vehicle quit running.
Replaced cvt at 89,000 miles. at 100,000 miles new transmission needs replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving 75 mph uphill, the vehicle decelerated as the accelerator pedal was depressed down to the floorboard. also, the ignition and traction control warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled over, turned off the vehicle, and allowed the vehicle to cool down in an attempt to remedy the failure. when the vehicle was restarted, it began to vibrate and shudder. the vehicle was taken to fontana nissan (16444 s highland ave, fontana, ca 92336, (909) 574-2288) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and further testing was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.
Vehicle in motion on highway, engine shut off unable to move vehicle to shoulder of road, was able to restart and drive back to home, a second time car stopped at a street signal. took vehicle to purchasing dealer, odometer reading 46000 miles, dealer stated problems was cvt transmission, all warranties have expired. dealer advised that new transmission would cost out of pocket toatal$350.00. wife has similar vehicle year 2015 and experiencing same issues, vehicle should be in warranty for transmission repair.
While driving on city busy street at 35 mph downhill, the car shudder and stopped. it lost power to all of its electrical and mechanical component. it was a busy office hour and so very dangerous, i somehow managed to steer the car to the side of the road and stop it. trying to start the car again, engine will turn on in parking or neutral but as soon as switched to drive or reverse, it will shudder and stall. took it to the dealership to find it is a cause of faulty torque converter. the torque converter gave away without any sign or warnings. the car drove fine until the second before this happened. it could have happened at an interstate highway with high speeds and caused an unavoidable mishap. this issue should be looked in for thousands of people's safety that drive nissan.
2013 nissan altima sl - like so many others, right around 55k, delayed response when accelerating. sudden loss of ability to accelerate or drive any power occurred on highway. car stalled in dangerous location in middle of highway; complete inability to accelerate.
The transmission fails to accelerate properly. had it serviced several times including changing the transmission fluid. only 85k miles, and the car completely choked only reaching 20 mph while trying to accelerate to merge into the highway. currently getting serviced at nissan of bakersfield, have 4 days and no response as to what the issue could be.
While driving on the highway (in motion), my car (nissan altima 2013) started jerking every few seconds when accelerating and i was experiencing a loss of power when accelerating. this was during rush hour (5pm on 695 in baltimore, maryland) and my car became a hazard to pull to the shoulder. when the issue happened, there were no warning signs/lights displayed. upon pulling to the shoulder, i put my car in park and shut it off. after starting the car up again and putting it in drive, it would not drive. i turned the car off a couple of more times and shifted it to drive and it finally started driving. however, the jerking and the loss of power/acceleration continued. now, i cannot drive my car at all. i contacted nissan and even though they extended the warranty on some of their cvt transmission vehicles (2003-2010), my car is a 2013 and it is not covered in the warranty. all of the nissan dealerships i have contacted are refusing to repair the vehicle under a warranty and are quoting a $5000 repair for a re-manufactured transmission. upon doing research, it is evident the cvt transmission issue with the 2013 nissan altima is a known issue and nissan should be covering this issue. the vehicle currently has 75,819 miles on it and the issue happened around 75,810 miles. the vehicle is currently parked at a local mechanic shop, it was driven straight to the shop when this issue started occurring. this is a serious safety hazard because the vehicle starts losing power/acceleration when driving on the highway which can result in an accident.
My car stopped accelerating in the middle of driving on a highway. when i got off they highway i got stuck at a red light on a hill and the car didn't even have enough power to get up the hill and the car started rolling backwards if i took my foot off the brake. the car is at 79,973 miles and the nissan service center says the car needs a new transmission. there have been hundreds of complaints about this exact same transmission breaking down earlier than normal. i had to pay to have the car towed to a nissan service center and pay their fees to have the car inspected before they would even consider helping with the cost of repairs. they strung me along for 3 days...just to tell me they would not take any responsibility and would not give any assistance. this is pretty terrible customer service from what i thought was a reputable brand of car and for a known issue with their vehicle.
My car only has 65000 miles. my car is stalling on me when shifting to reverse or drive. the dealership has run diagnostic and came back with transmission issue.
First issue: went to open inside driver door and heard something snap. now the door handle just flops back and forth without opening the door. second issue: i put my foot on the break and tried to move the gear shifter from park to reverse. the button that you would press to shift wouldn't move. now my car is stuck in park. both of these issues happened with the car stopped. my only issues is someone with the same car and same year has had both issues happen the them as well. the only difference between our car is mine has 78,000 miles and hers has 56000 miles.
The car does not accelerate properly when driving causing it to stall in unsafe areas (intersections, inclines, freeway on-ramps). many times the accelerator will be pressed down completely and the car will barely move. when driving up small inclines, the car will stutter and make terrible sounds. (this has been a problem since 2017)
My vehicle has 65k miles and has began to have sticking gears. the problem is is that after starting the car the gear will not move when pressing the breaks and lock release button. the problem occurs 7/10 times. this is a wide spread problem after 50k miles but nissan refuses to recall the 2013 nissan altima models. the gear also gets stuck in drive when to where i can't move it to other gears when the car is in drive. this recently happened while at the car was and i was trying to switch to neutral.
Transmission issues. shuddering when driving at lower speeds (less than 40). when putting the car in gear the transmission is not catching and the car is rolling. this happens in forward and reverse. the car can roll upwards of 20 feet before the transmission catches after you get the car up to 2000+ rpms. there is no guarantee that you will be able to actual accelerate immediately either. 2 days ago i was stopped at a light and had to put my flashers on as i was not able to accelerate. after about 20 seconds the transmission and engine finally started to work together but not well. there was no acceleration. also 2 day ago the car stalled when leaving a parking garage. this could have proven to be a safety issue if she were actively pulling into traffic.
The transmission started revving, then stall out without any warning. upon re-starting it, it would not engage in drive or reverse. just stall out again. this is a serious safety problem. nissan knows about it since they recalled the 2007 to 2010 models but have not recalled the 2012-2013 later models as yet. there are many complaints filed as well as several lawsuits pending. nissan should step up and take responsibility for a defect they have know about for some time. while their ceo was arrested for financial improprieties, nissan is being unjustly enriched at the expensive of their customers.
I am angry and very upset that nissan is not stepping up and taking responsibility for the defective cvt transmissions that they have been installing in their vehicles, specifically the altima.i own a 2013 altima sv that is a danger on the road and to me that had to be parked.i began researching the problem and was astounded to read about the many class action lawsuits that are pending because of the transmission problems that have been concealed by nissan though they were aware of these issues in 2012.interestingly enough i understand that nissan uses cvt's designed and manufactured by jatco, a majority 'owned subsidiary of nissan.a little conflict of interest perhaps and the real reason for the hesitation to initiate a recall? nissan is being unjustly enriched at the expensive of their customers.my transmission reacts in the same manner as many of those described in the 37 pages of car complaints posted at 'lemmon law.com' my car at 70,800 miles began revving.the vehicle would stall and although the engine could be re-started the transmission would not engage in drive or reverse, the same complaint many people have described. this would occur with no warning causing an extreme hazard to me and others. i understand that nissan was forced to extend the warranty from a class action suit on vehicles 2007 to 2010 models with the same cvt transmission. nissan needs to take responsibility and do the same for the newer models. why doesn't nissan care about safety, about customer satisfaction and taking responsibility for a defect that you have been aware of? their ceo has been arrested for financial improprieties.just think about how that makes all of us feel.here we are getting ripped off while the people on the top benefit.nissan should take responsibility and extend the warrant period on the power train to 10 years 120,000 miles like you have in the past.
The transmission was working fine as we were running errands and all of a sudden the car would not go into gear. the car also began to shake and then stall. all this happened in minutes. the car was stuck in the middle of the street creating an unsafe position. we took the car to autozone after it would go into gear again and they pulled a diagnostic code of p0776. the code is transmission related. the car was driven on city streets that night.
Takata recall my gear shifter remains in a stuck position. the car was stationary on a city street. i was unable to shift from park to another gear. this is a major safety issue as i have gotten stuck with my toddler in the car and was unable to move to a safer location. it took me at least 15 minutes to get the car to shift from park into gear. i was terrified! i had to leave the car in its location and take a lyft home with my daughter. the next day my local mechanic came to check the car. he said that this is a common issue for 2013 nissan altimas. he said he would have to take the car to his shop to investigate what might be causing this failure or i should call up nissan because they should be aware of this safety issue.
While travelling on a local artery road (40 mph speed limit), the car experienced rapid jerking or shuddering (forward and backward motion) during gear changes. at the next stop light, the car stalled so i shifted the gear shift from drive into park and re-started the car. as soon as i shifted the gear shift from park into drive, the car immediately stalled again. so i shifted back into park and re-started the car again. then the car stalled again as soon as i shifted into drive. so i shifted into neutral and re-started the car again. then i was able to shift the car into drive from neutral. afraid to drive the car again, i immediately brought it to a nissan dealership for diagnosis and repair. they (the nissan dealership) seem unable or unwilling to diagnose the issue so no repairs are recommended. upon investigating this further (internet searches), there appears to be hundreds of people experiencing these same symptoms on cars with jatco cvt transmissions. nissan refuses to take responsibility for the issues because their computers and or diagnostic tools fail to identify any error codes, which suggest that nissan may have tampered with their diagnostic equipment to avoid responsibility for these issues. i say this because nissan has years of documented cvt defects in their recent past. please investigate this as consumers are left with unsafe vehicles that are simply being traded in and resold to other unsuspecting consumers, all because nissan is getting away with not being held accountable for their defective products.
