Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2013 Nissan Altima

I purchased the car new year 2013 in 2014 i noticed a roaring noise while driving on the street at slow and high speeds. around christmas eve i was driving when the car died out on me on the street. i had the car towed to the dealer where they did their diagnosis. they had the car for 5 days, they said they had to replace the alternator which they said had internal problems and also reprogram the system of the computer of the car at 29,326 miles which is odd to me because it was a newer car. so now its 2016 and i brought the car back in to the dealer today because it seemed as the windows would roll down slow, the car wouldnt accelerate right away when pushing down on the gas (stalling) and it would shake while driving or at a stop, and when coming to a stop it would jerk as if someone hit my rear end. they did the diagnosis and said they had to reprogram the transmission. so i now believe there is internal problems with the car which is probably going to lead to the engine or transmission to go on me. and it is a manufacturers problem because i shouldnt of had any problems like these for a 2013 now at 46,000 miles

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 nissan altima. while driving approximately 30 mph, an abnormal odor emitted from the vehicle and smoke came from the hood. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be serviced for an oil change. the fire department extinguished the fire. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was destroyed. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Dashboard cluster went out while driving. lost speedometer, odometer and all other gauges etc. car only had 55,000 miles on it. i turned my car on and started driving out of my driveway, on my way to the nissan dealer to fix other recalls, when it went out. i pulled over, restarted my car and still nothing. had to exit car to see if lights/blinkers were working and they still were, but no sign from inside that they were. drove to dealer without speedometer etc for an appointment at nissan dealership the next morning. nissan not even willing to admit this is a safety issue. about a $878 repair, with car just outside of warranty. i contacted nissan consumer affairs and they are not willing to accept responsibility or make any reimbursement of any type. i talked with lauren at 615.725.7907. she stated that if there is a recall i can submit receipts and they may reimburse.

For unknown reasons, the brakes stay on causing the car to either not move, or to go into limp mode. when this happens, the gear shifter can be moved out of park without depressing the brake. also, the car can be started without having to depress the brake pedal. sometimes, the outside brake lights stay on, sometimes they don't. i replaced the brake light switch and manually operating the switch would not make lights go off. sometimes when driving, the brake system will release and vehicle accelerates rapidly, to the point of losing control. sometimes, a quick pump of the brake pedal will release whatever is going on-sometimes nothing will cause it to go back to normal. removing the negative battery cable will turn off the lights, but will not reset the problem. dealer has no suggestions to remedy the problem, except to let them keep the car and to start replacing parts until they make the problem go away. nissan america says nissan has already spent too much money trying to resolve previous issues on this car and would not spend another penny!!! private mechanic that is trying to troubleshoot problem is having no luck determining the cause. there are nissan tsb's about shorted wiring, but only nissan techs can acces those. car has been in shop 44 times for 62 days for various major problems that nissan can't or won't fix completely. nissan refuses to try to make the situation right, even though they admit the down time is exorbitant and not in lines with their company satisfaction guarantee.

A/c has not worked properly till it just stoped. the ac blows air intermittent cold and hot. compressor not working properly. filled with freon but will not consistently blow cold. headlights very dim. the lenses are clear

When the turn signal automatically returns to the off position after a right hand turn, the left turn signal starts blinking.

Purchased car may of 2013, pre-owned certified and only 21000miles. from onset of ownership, brakes made noises, "cyclop brake light in rear window would blink constantly, dash lights would go from dim to bright all the time. the car would hesitate when leaving stop position, pushing electronic start button would not work often. dealership always said that the situation could not be duplicated. on dec. 2nd, 2015 while driving home i was approaching a stopped car in the middle of the road and tried to slow below the 20mph i was driving and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and all dash lights went blank and the car stalled resulting in a collision. the car would not start for over 2 hours. the dealership asked about the key fob location and battery condition and the batteries were good and key fob was on front seat where it always was. i filed a customer complaint with nissan consumer affairs on dec, 4th 2015 and constantly got run-arounds with no call backs several time. i was left without a vehicle and no help from dealership or nissan consumer affairs. while reading the many complaints of other altima's i was so concerned with my safety and health i purchased another car. i believe i had an electrical issue from the beginning and it could not be diagnosed and it ended up with a collision involving another car.

Dashboard cluster went out while driving. lost speedometer, odometer and all other gauges etc. car only had 42,000 miles on it. i turned my car on and started driving out of a parking lot when it went out. i pulled over, restarted my car and still nothing. had to exit car to see if lights/blinkers were working and they still were, but no sign from inside that they were. drove home and scheduled appointment at nissan dealership the next morning. nissan not even willing to admit this is a safety issue. about a $1,000 repair, with car just outside of warranty.

This is a combination of problems. approximately around nov. 7, 2015 the check engine light came on while at the dealer (almost one year after the last time). i have not owned my vehicle 2 years yet. i thought they had taken care of it when they told me the light shouldn't come back on. they said the code was for reprogramming the mass air system. about 2 weeks later the same light came on but this time i lost acceleration again while getting on the freeway. i had a couple of close calls on being rear-ended while having my son in the car. i had to get off immediately and drive down to the dealer which took me it seemed forever because it would barely move. i had to leave the vehicle as it was closing. the following day i was called and told that it required reprogramming of the mass air system. i had them do it but it took them 1 day to return the vehicle to me. about 2 days later the check engine light came back on again and i took it back to the same dealer. this time finding the problem wasn't as easy. they kept my vehicle for 3 days before letting me know that i needed to have the throttle chamber replaced. really now...check engine light on a total of 2 times in 1 year + 2 more time in another year, 1 alternator replaced in 1 year , 1 throttle chamber replaced in almost 2 years, leaking rear shocks in 1 year and nissan does nothing to replace my vehicle which is a constant safety hazard for me and my family.

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the air conditioning unit failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was informed that the transmission and air conditioning unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. while driving and pulling into a parking space, there was an abnormal electrical odor coming through the air condition vents. the vehicle caught fire. while trying to exit the vehicle, the door handle failed to work. the contact was able to exit the vehicle through the driver side window. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 31,898....updated 01/07/16 *bf *cn

Backup camera signal to screen fails and loses picture when backing up. static appears on screen. occurs with random reverse movement. usually from parking lot or stall, indoor or outdoor, even own private dwelling garage. attempted remedy by nissan service was to replace audio component but still recurs. has happened about 8 times so far.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph and coming to a stop, the vehicle shook and then stalled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer on two separate occasions where the vehicle was reprogrammed and the transmission was replaced but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,800.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. the failure occurred randomly. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. the lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify. nissan dealer says my projector lens have on them which cannot be cleaned. quoted $1000 to replace both headlights. i do not agree, units are sealed from factory.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the instrument panel failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 49,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving approximately 30 mph, the transmission shifted from drive into the neutral position independently and an abnormal noise emitted. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate or locate the failure. the contact experienced multiple unrelated failures with the vehicle that included the exterior door failing to unlock or lock with the key fob until after several attempts. a burning odor emitted from the air vents when the air conditioner or heater was activated. there were no flames present. also, the brakes squeaked intermittently when depressed. the contact stated there was concern regarding a potential health hazard with the push button starter causing cancer. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 10,600.

Car purchased 2/27/2015. having a tire sensor and torque converter replaced in less then two weeks of purchasing this thing, now the check engine light comes on weeks later. took it to the dealership. was told that they ran tests and couldn't find anything. was told that a part maybe going bad but they couldn't do anything until it was completely bad. they turned the light off and was told that if it came back on then to bring it back. two days later, the light came back on. i called the dealership and was told that they couldn't get me in to check it for 4 days. my husband went up there to talk to the representative. he told them that we were heading out of town over 600 miles away. he wanted to know if it would be ok and did we purchase a lemon. we were told that they don't sell lemons and we should be fine. the associate turned the light off. after returning from the trip 3 days later, 2 hours from home, the light comes back on. two days later it went off. a week and a half the light comes back on and my husband, being feed up, took it to the dealership again and was told that the system needed to be updated for $160 and that's why the light kept coming on. the update was done on 4/20/2015. today, 4/22/2015, i went to my son's sports banquet and the light is back on. my husband and i are taking it back up there on the 24th. i am beginning to believe something is going on and we are not being told about this vehicle. i have checked for recalls and everything but nothing has come up. i am just about ready to get rid of a 2013 car that i haven't even had for a full 2 months. *tr

Vehicle was serviced by nissan dealership per nhtsa campaign #14v138000 on 3/11/15. on 3/12/15, the occupant classification system continued to operate improperly (e.g. not detecting an occupant in the passenger seat). this has been noted several times since the ocs software was updated by the oem. *tr

Multiple times i've been driving and or sitting idle. the radio has frozen to where i have to pull over, shut off the vehicle, and restart it. this may temporarily correct the issue. i have taken it to the dealership multiple times and multiple times have i been laughed at and told i'm being ridiculous. i have had the unit reprogrammed, and still no luck. second issue is my backup camera. works when it wants, half way works, or don't work at all. where i'm paying so much for a vehicle, i would like to have equipment that works. i have brought the vehicle for service many times about this once again i was told nothing they could do and to deal with it. something needs to be done. more of a hassle having something new than to have an older vehicle. *tr

Passenger air bag light stays on. *js

Brand new vehicle just shy of 1 year bought and check engine goes on twice for reprogram of oxygen sensor, once in town before thanksgiving week in november 2014 and a second time while out of town for the thanksgiving holidays. frustrating that i took the vehicle in to the dealer to get fixed and it wasn't done the first time. it looks like they just cleared the system and the light and it came back on while out of town for the same problem.

On friday 14, 2014 approximately8:33 p.m. i was driving down n. tyron st in charlotte, nc in traffic when my car shut down automatically due to the key not being detected. the key was in the car with me and then a lady miss hitting me in the rear by a inch; due to my car just cutting off indicating my key was not in the car. i tried to start the car again and it would not start back up when i press the start key and the brake at the same time time; it will say the key is not being detected. when i press the automatic start button on the key, the car would start up but when i press the start button and the brake together it cut off and the say thing comes up on the dashboard. then once it did cut on when i tried to put the car in drive the cuts off and says the key is not being detected. this a safety issues and very dangerous, if the lady behind me was not paying attention it would of been a bad accident. i don't trust my car and i am afraid to drive it again. when i called nissan they didn't know anything and did not assist me until the following wednesday 19,2014 and i have been without a car since. no customer service or concern about their customers well-being at all. it been 12 recalls on my vehicle, i have not received any notification of any of them by capital nissan of wilmington or the regional office. *tr

I was trying to get into my car to get to work. the key fob was not working at all, the das was telling me that my key i'd was incorrect. it took several hours and the car finally started. i called nissan and they told me it was my battery. i have since changed my battery and still am having the problem. tonight i was stuck outside of my car for hours b4 it would open. *tr

Nov. 7th 2014. navigation system quit on my 2013 altima, it's a v6 sl with all the bells and whistles. took to mcgavock nissan lubbock tx.. in the process of repairs i was told they burnt the ecm. picked up car tuesday nov. 11th 2014. sunday nov.16th. 2014 car would not accelerate. monday nov. 17th tow trk picked up car. they told my son the accelerator module had burnt out. i got the paper mcgavock handed me when car picked up. on the 11th its states all that was done to the car including replacing the ecm. wednesday nov. 19th i called nissan usa expressed my concern about the car not being trust worthy. mcgavock wrote on service order the car is flooding then the accelerator burnt out. this car is going to give problems from now on. i told nissan usa i wanted a new car with no cost to me since the car is now basically a lemon. my son talked to service advisor and service mgr. they now deny replacing the ecm. service mgr says the paperwork i was given. the cashier made a mistake says he has the final paperwork. *tr

As many others have previously reported, this 2013 altima will not detect an adult passenger (140+ lbs) and will turn off the passenger airbag. the initial safety recall work was performed on the car (prior to our purchase of the vehicle), but the problem continues to happen. we have talked to several dealers who have not been able to do anything to fix the problem because it appears that nissan doesn't know how to fix it. this huge safety concern makes the car unusable when we need to have more than one person in the car and we cannot get the airbag to work properly. nhtsa: please force nissan to do something about this issue! *tr

Passenger airbag light is stating that it is off, when the seat was occupied by an adult. there was a recall issued and the car was taken to the dealership to have this fixed. the recall did not solve the problem. it has been taken to the dealership multiple times since the recall to have the problem corrected. i have video evidence of the last time it happened. the dealership ([xxx]) states that nissan can not do anything further. the nissan 800 number stated the same. both want to push the issue to the other with no one providing resolution. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

For over a year this vehicle has had an issue where the airbags will turn themselves on and off . no matter if there is a person in the passenger seat or not . the seat can be empty and the airbags warning indicator light will randomly come on and off . the same is true when there is a person in the seat . the vehicle was repaired numerous times right after purchase , it was fixed for the safety recall for this problem and it has been repaired numerous times since . the problem continues . nissan corporate has refused to re purchase this obvious lemon and has said they will continue to attempt to fix it . since they have been unable to identify the problem ... they now have resorted to blaming the dealers . search vimeo for 2013 nissan altima airbag light and you will see the video of this issue . *tr

Airbag sensor doesn't work properly. while the car is in motion, the light turns on warning that the airbag will not deploy when a person is buckled in the passenger seat. my vin is not included in the recall but i've noticed this issue for over a year. my nissan dealership ignored my complaint a year ago when i asked them to look at it.

Wife was driving west bound on ohio st rt 125 doing 40 mph when a car going east bound on ohio st rt 125 attempted to make a left hand turn in front of her and hit her head on bringing the car to a complete stop in just a couple feet. none of the airbags went off . the seatbelt did not lock up. none of the safety equipment on this car worked during this head on collision.... updated 02/19/15 *bf updated 10/28/2015*js *tr

With 130 - 140 lb passenger in front passenger seat, dashboard indicator signals that front passenger airbag will not deploy. vehicle has been returned to dealer for recall service under nhtsa campaign number 14v138000, but this did not resolve the problem. *tr

I purchased a 2013 nissan altima in july 2014 with 36,000 miles. about 3 weeks after purchasing this vehicle, the check engine light came on. i took it into the local nissan dealer to determine the cause. i was told that they couldn't find the source and it would require further diagnostic testing for $80. i disagreed and left. two days later, my daughter and i were traveling along interstate 10 when suddenly the car wouldn't accelerate. as i merged over to the left lane, every light on the dash came on and the engine went dead just as i made it to the shoulder. i put the car in park and waited 10 minutes before i attempted to start it up again. the following day, i took the car back to my local nissan dealer. at that point, they told me there was an electrical malfunction that was covered under warranty but they would need to order a replacement part. i was without a vehicle for 3 days when i received a call that the car was ready. i sent my mother to pick up the car because i was at work. they didn't provide any repair summary to show what repairs were made. fast forward three weeks...my family was traveling to mobile, alabama to depart for our annual walt disney world trip, when you guessed it...the car wouldn't accelerate although my foot was literally on the ground. i pulled over once again and didn't try to start the engine again for about 20 minutes. the service engine light has been on every since. i have constantly fought with the seller (bob tyler toyota) about returning this vehicle. i sold a 2006 honda accord ex-l with 176,000 miles to purchase this lemon. it is an absolute clunker. will someone please suggest other options for me??? *tr

Vehicle has a shudder when decelerating from 65 to 60. has progressively been happening more often. in addition to the shudder at higher speeds, it now has started to shudder and lack response at lower speeds at random. the gas mileage has dropped at least 5 mpg since all of these issues started. i have taken to nissan service twice for the same issue. both times the problem "couldn't be duplicated" and there isn't a code that shows anything wrong on computer diagnostics. all searches for these issues in relation to a 2013 nissan altima 3.5 sl, return numerous complaints about the same problems and no resolution. current mileage is15,000. i have been told to keep all reports from service so if there is a problem later i have documentation that it has been an ongoing issue. it appears nissan should get in front of this problem quickly as it is not leaving a good mark on their name to have such new vehicles with this drastic of a problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the passenger's seat did not acknowledge when a passenger was occupying the seat. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing but was unable to be diagnosed. the failure persisted. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 14v138000 (air bags , electrical system) but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Several times the passenger seat / occupant detection system has failed to properly identify an adult occupant and has disabled the passenger airbag. this occurs with males and females ranging from 40th to 70th percentile in all genders. i have recorded videos of these incidents for record of their occurrence. the only resolution is to pull over, power car completely off and restart car. on restart the car recognized the occupant and enabled the passenger airbag. the date of incident is of the first occurrence. this happened several more times with the most recent being may 2015 with approximately 29,000 miles on the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front passenger airbag illuminated off when the seat was occupied. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that there was no failure with the airbag. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v138000 (air bags, electrical system).the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,076. updated 9/4/14*cn the consumer stated the recall, did not rectify the problem. updated 09/18/14

While slowing down for an intersection all electronics on car stopped with no warning and motor shut down. no indicator lights on dash. car became completely malfunctioning in an instant. no power breaks or steering, dash lights, console display or ignition on indicator. got car to a stop. put the car in park and restarted with no errors or indications that the car mechanically and electronically just died. clock was set to the correct time but trip odometer and many other customized settings were reset. acted as if the ecm did a reset while driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the passenger's side seat belt light intermittently illuminated when a passenger was in the seat and secured. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number 14v138000 (air bags , electrical system), however the failure was recurring. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

I have the key-less entry and many times with the key fob in my pocket i can not open the door. the door sensor does not recognize the key fob unless i take it out and press the lock unlock button. at times with the car in my garage the vehicle says no key code found and i have to either pres lock unlock on the key fob or i have to put the key next to the start button for a few seconds before it recognizes it. i've tried to see if i could think of an emi source each time it happens, and the only thing i have noted is that it only happens when close to a wall. has not yet happened in open parking lot. once is happened when i was parked next to an f250 and i figured maybe it has to do with being in proximity of large objects. it has happened about 15 times so far from jan to april 2014. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the air bag deactivated warning light illuminated intermittently while the seat was occupied. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician was unable to find a failure. no repairs were made to the vehicle. the failure mileage was 11,000. updated 01/20/15*lj also, the key fob failed. it did not recognize the key id. the consumer was unable to unlock the door. on several occasions, the vehicle would not start. updated 02/231/5.*jb updated 10/7/2015*js

when i tried to turn vehicle on, radio and other system was on, but could not put car in gear, eventually car had to be towed. the dealership advised me that the bcm has an internal short and needed to be replaced. this vehicle was bought brand new and has under 52,000 miles, has not been owned for even 2 years and it breaks down with no one taking responsibility on this issue on a semi new vehicle. my sister owns the same vehicle and i am afraid that it will happen to her too. i have done some research and found numerous boards with people complaining about this issues or something similar. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving approximately 60 mph, the speedometer failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the speedometer needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000.

The vehicle was involve in the 2014 recall for the safety defect due to a computer program could misjudge the weight of the person in the front passenger seat and conclude that a child instead of an adult was sitting there. the local nissan dealer has tried at lest 5 time times to correct to no avail

The front passenger air bag status light (passenger air bag off), illuminates intermittently with a full sized adult sitting in the right front passenger seat. nissan claims that my vehicle is not subject to the voluntary safety recall campaign id# pc214, dated april 2, 2013. the passenger airbag status lamp is located above the instrument panel center stack. this intermittent condition has occurred twice through the month of december 2013. the warning indicator will turn off and operate correctly after i turn off my running engine and restart. *tr

Car is vibrating when going 40 mph. vibration also occurring after long drives and then coming to a stop. car will shake. it is not happening all the time, but is nerve racking when it does. intermittent issue with the key id not being recognized when entering the car when the doors are locked and you press the unlock button on the door handle. or when getting into an unlocked car the key is not recognized. lock the doors and auto start the car button on the key fob not starting the car. happening on both key fobs. headlights during long trip were dimming, then would brighten. this during a 6 hour drive. gas mileage has dropped from 38.4 mpg to 33.1 mpg highway driving. same issue with around town about 5 mpg drop. mileage seems to differ when filling up car. goes from over 600+ miles to around 580+ miles. not sure why when you fill it all the way up the mileage is not the same. tire pressure seems to differ. not sure that is reliable reading. *tr

Re: keyless ignition systems. this was a rental car so i don't know vin or mileage, or exact year. i rented a car last week in san diego, my first experience with keyless ignitions. i only had the car for one day and was not used to this system. late at night i parked car, pushed the ignition to "off" started to get out of the car, when car started driving forward because i had forgotten to put it in park. i was knocked down in the middle of the street, it was pitch black outside, i had no idea what was happening, until i saw the car driving away. i managed to chase the car and jump back inside before it hit anything. however, my knee was torn up really bad, and i am still dealing with the injury more than a week later. not having any warning/safety measure to let people know that the car is not in park, coupled with a whisper quiet engine, is a totally dangerous combination, and clearly deadly from many on line accounts i have read. don't know how this ridiculous idea ever made it to factory, much less approved without any warning system in place. i hate these cars and think they should be recalled. at least in a regular car the keys will not come out of the ignition of the car is not in the 'park' position. i am lucky the car did not run over me, or someone innocent bystander. but i would imagine there have been many accidents like mine that ended much worse. like i said, these cars are dangerous and should be recalled, and this system should be illegal. *tr

Passenger air bag indicator light indicates that airbag remains off while passenger is in the seat. nissan dealer tech claims that this is not a problem; just the way the system works. he wouldn't even look at it. *tr
