Around june 1, 2012, i noticed a few spots that looked shiny on my dashboard in the middle section above the air vents. i did not think much of it at first. however, it got progressively worse, little by little. by june, 2013 it started to project a glare on the front window when the sun hit it . living in florida, it can be blinding at times. my husband noticed that it was sticky to the touch. in may 2013, i was diagnosed with hodgkin's lymphoma and needed to take off work for chemo and radiation. i called ferman nissan in oct.to inquire if any other owners were having the same problem. the service person i spoke with dismissed me and said it would be over 1000 to replace and i was probably responsible for it. i said i was concerned if toxic fumes could be released when the dash is heated, and he said no and took no responsibility for it. in feb. when i was finished with my treatments, i began inquiring with nissan corporate. i am worried that the dash could be toxic for me, when the dash heat up, not to mention the dangerous glare. i was told to get a quote from the dealer, which i did on february, 11, 2014. it said "dash looks like it's melting." estimate 1619.46 plus tax and supplies to replace dash. when i faxed nissan corporate, they still did nothing after making me get the quote. i was so frustrated . then action news 10 did a segment on the melting dash problem and exposed the fact that the issue is very common. please assist me with this situation, as i am worried to continue to drive the car this way in the hot florida sun. *tr

The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima is melting!!!!!!! at first i thought it was something that came from the ac vents, but it just got worse & worse. i couldn't clean it even with a wet rag it was so sticky that it just stuck to it. i kept a windshield proctor in the window and it started to melt into the dash. it got so bad it was a hazard to try and drive. i have made several complaints to my dealership who looked at it and finally said "yes, your dashboard is melting". i was told to call consumer affairs. after months of back and forth, voicemail chasing and arguing that this should be recalled and that they should replace my dash due to their defect that is cause for an accident. a hazard, and now being unable to drive my car. i was told initially they couldn't help because it wasn't a warranty item. eventually they agreed to replace( i should consider myself lucky), but that the cost of labor had to be dealt wit my dealership at a cost of $560. consumer affairs said they will only pay for the part. finally discussed with dealership who stated that part was in, only to find out it wasn't ordered. an order was supposedly placed on 5/13/14 and was told it would take a few days. today is june 3. 2014 and i'm still waiting! just spoke with parts department and the part is on backorder with no other information of when it could possibly come in! so much for the help! i probably will not ever buy another nissan, and it's a shame because i really like my car. *tr

The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe 2.5s is melting. the melting started around the edges of the speaker grill and the top part of the dashboard. i have tried to remove the residue with different products, but nothing seems to work. the melting has progressed to a point where it impairs my vision due to the reflection of sun on the windshield. the car is out of warranty and nissan refuses to replace the dashboard. i am only one of hundreds of people affected with this issue. a quick search online for the words "melting" "dashboard" and "altima" will pop up more than a dozen threads from people who have the same problem. most of them are from sates where the temperatures are regularly hot. *tr

Dashboard has begun to deteriorate/melt and has turned into a shiny, reflective goo. it is reflecting onto the windshield and at the right angle can be completely blinding. this will absolutely cause an accident. dealership is aware of multiple additional vehicles and no manufacturer recalls have been issued. *tr

Nearly 1/3 of the dashboard has melted, leaving a sticky residue that causes extreme and sudden reflection of sunlight, including during high speed driving. this is not cosmetic - it is simply a safety issue. my mechanic, with more than 20 years experience, has stated that he has never seen a vehicle (even old vehicles) with melting as extensive. please address this before it causes a major accident. *tr

The dashboard first started getting sticky and then it started progressing really fast with the all over melting and sinking in. the glare was so bad that i first put a towel on it till it was stuck and i had a hard time removing it after i got a dashboard cover. now i can see cracks all the way down to the air conditioning vents and the side by the radio. the smell is absolutely disgusting. i'm really embarrassed about anyone riding in my car ever though it looks really good on the outside. i'm hoping the car manufacture gets enough complaints that they will do something about it. i know i will never buy a nissan again and when you are comparing the price of a new car compared to what repairing the problem would be. it would make more sense to go ahead an fix the problem for the owners of the car.. *tr

I purchased a 2008 nissan altima coupe from a used car dealership, it has turned out to be a great car except the issue that appears to happen to many of their dashboards. they begin to melt from just general daily exposure to the sun. it has created a glare that makes it difficult to see out the windshield while driving even with sunglasses. i spoke with two technicians at nissan dealerships and they have agreed that it must be the material used that year on the dashboard. upon taking this issue up with nissan they said they would not replace the piece, and have not taken responsibility for the issue and the material that they placed in this vehicle. this will continue to be a safety concern and will not escalate until unfortunately someone gets into a accident due to the material they used on this dashboard. nissan, i feel should take responsibility for the material used and replace the piece not only for myself but others, not just because it looks terrible but that it is a safety concern at this point. *tr

There is a consistent issue with this particular maker, model and year. the "melting dashboard". the material used to make the rubber-type dashboard begins to "melt". the surface is sticky and causes very bad windshield sun glare, which can be dangerous. my wife will not drive car because of this. i have documented photos and comments from other car owners. *tr

My 2008 nissan altima coupe dash is melting severely. i would describe this as a tar pit, which has spread over half the dash. during the day you see this melting dash reflecting in the whole windshield, which is dangerously obstructing the drivers view. ( seriously ) !!!!!!!! also i'm aware there's many car owners with this problem. the manufacturers should recall and replace these dashes before someone gets injured. thank you !!!!!!! *tr

After about 3 years the dash started melting. it gets worse each year. the matte finish on the dash is now a sticky, shiny mess that shines a bad glare on windshield in sunlight and under street lights. it is difficult to see when the light hits it at the right (wrong) angle. several other people have complained about this same issue for this same year/make/model. 2008 nissan altima coupe. nissan will not fix the problem, offered to replace for $1200 but this is a problem they created by nissan choosing poor material to construct the dash. someone shouldn't have to have an accident before this problem is addressed. nissan should recall and fix the problem. *tr

I bought my 2008 nissan altima coupe 2.5 s brand new from the dealer with no problems whatsoever. this car is in great condition, but the only problem is the dashboard. but over the course of 5 years my car's dashboard has been progressively melting and i believe that if it is not fixed by the manufacturer it can lead to a safety problem on all cars that have this problem. personally i have never seen a dashboard melt, so i would really appreciate if this can be recalled and fixed because honestly its a manufacturers problem, not a consumers. thank you for your time. *tr

I am in florida and car dashboard has been made with cheap material which started to melt after just a few years on purchase. in 2011 i did call nissan but no one replied my call. i kept on thinking that may be there is something that i have done but after doing some research on my issue, i noticed that internet is full of this complain about nissan altima 2008 dashboard being melting, cracking and sticky when you touch it. the glare from dashboard is so much that it gets hard to drive in sunny weather. i have stopped to drive my car and the day i run into an accident due to glare, i will call my lawyer right away. the car has 66k miles on it, and i have never seen this problem before on any other car i have ever owned. *tr

The dash of my 2008 nissan altima is melting or deteriorating. it has become so shiny that when the sun or streetlights reflect on my windshield, it is almost a complete white-out effect. i nearly hit a pedestrian crossing the street because i could not see them. nissan has been contacted repeatedly and i have not had an acknowledgement from them. a local dealer said that this was not a defect, but i have seen numerous complaints about the same problem. the stickiness i could live with, but the way it reflects off my windshield is dangerous.

Dashboard melts in high temperature climates. glare from melt is so bad that it is impossible to see the road. visibility is a serious issue at this point and nissan has refused to replace or issue a recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front drivers side door filled up with water whenever it rained. the contact stated also stated that it sounds like a dish washer when driving the vehicle. none of the other doors have exhibited the failure. the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the plugs in the door were clogged which failed to let the water out. the contact had to continue to open the door and let the water run out of the vehicle. the failure caused the speakers on the door to make a buzzing noise. this is a defect because it can cause problems with the mechanics of the door. the failure mileage was 20 and the current mileage was 24000.

My 2008 nissan altima dash board is melting. i live in miami fl. and brought my 2008 altima new from a local dealer. around 2010, i started to notice the deterioration of the dash board. i thought the problem was related to a cleaning product. however, based on my recent research over the internet and personal observation of other 2008 altima's own by others, the melting dash board is a pervasive problem. this problem is a real safety issue that nissan should be resolving by recalling there vehicles that have this problem. the dash board is so shiny that it inter-fears with the driver's vision while driving. when the sun is shining, the dash reflex the sun directly in the face of the driver. i reached out to nissan (case# [xxx]) they explained that it is nothing they can do because the car is out of warranty and refuse to repair or resolve the issues. however, since this is safety concern that has the potential of endangering the people lives, the warranty limitation should not apply. i am asking for nissan to confirm a recall and replace my dash board. case#[xxx] vin#[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
