We have classified the 203 complaints from 2008 Nissan Altima about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I purchased a 2008 nissan altima brand new in 2007, and currently the dashboard is melting. i recently visited my local nissan dealership as i was told to do by nissan consumer affairs for a diagnostics. there the dealership also agreed the dashboard is peeling and melting. i was quoted a total cost of $1860 for parts and labor. i then contacted nissan consumer affairs regarding the matter and they created a case# and said they would get back with me on the issue. a week later they contacted me to say that they will pay for the parts but not the labor because my vehicle is no longer under warranty. i cannot possibly understand why i should be penalized or have to pay for any of this when it is completely not my fault. this is the first i have ever seen of a melting dashboard and i've had two cars prior to this one, one being a 1995 and there were no issues of a melting dashboard. this melting dashboard is also hazardous for me, the child i'm carrying and my two year old son, as it does affect my view while driving when its sunny out, which is pretty much all the time where i live, there is a really bad glare of the dashboard on my windshield. unfortunately this car is my only means of transportation and buying another car is out of the question for me financially. *tr
Recently i have been parking in the sun at work and i've noticed that my dashboard has been damaging by the heat of the sun. it's to the point where items stick to the dashboard. i would appreciate if you could help me fix this problem. *tr
The dashboard is melting on top near the steering wheel and also near where the defrost vents are. *tr
Regarding 2008 nissan altima: the air conditioning evaporator drain hose is poorly engineered leading to water draining back into the vehicle as opposed to outside of the vehicle. the water will pool in the back seat passenger side and continue to collect water until it moves forward toward the front seat passenger side. without correcting this defect the water will lead to mold/fungus growth, rotted carpet, rusted floor wells, and potentially electrical damage as there is a main electrical wire that runs along the passenger side floor that parallels the evaporator drain hose. *tr
My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is very sticky and melting. i called nissan and make my first complaint 2 months too late was told. since then the melting and stickiness on the complete top of the dash board is getting worse. inside the car now it?s also smelling like melted tar, which may represent a health issue when breathing it, and with it the intense glare, reflection of the glossy tar on the front window it's a severe safety hazard when driving, especially when this also could result in airbags being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of an accident. nissan refuses to help replace this defective dash board. last week i called nissan again. this time because the a/c?s evaporator needs to be replaced.i understand the cost of this would be my responsibility to pay, but because this is under the defective dash board, this one would have to be removed in order to replace the evaporator. once removed, the melted dash board, no guarantee could be installed again, i was told by service rep at nissan. a nissan supervisor told me the same as others and suggested for me to call nhtsa and file a complaint, so they would work on a recall for this. my a/c needs to be fixed. i'm in fl where weather conditions and rainy season it's next to impossible to drive with windows down. i'm aware that a/c repair is my responsibility but i believe it's unfair to have to pay an additional 2,000 because of nissan's defective material used on dashboards. this is a known concern since others have had the same issue. if nissan doesn't do right by its consumers and or a recall is issue, there would be many consumers in the future with risks of accidents and/or possible respiratory health issues. a simple search on your page you find many other consumers with same problem. nissan makes it sound like these are isolated issues. *tr
My 2008 altima also has a melting dash. i've contacted my local dealership and nissan directly and they both told me there was nothing they could do to help me because the car is out of warranty. are they not concerned at all that the glare from the shine is blinding and could cause an accident? it's a poor quality issue they should take responsibility for before someone is hurt or killed. *tr

Dashboard degradation. the dashboard appears to be 'melting' causing a dangerous glare. extremely difficult to see out of the windshield during daylight hours. *tr
My 2008 nissan altima coupe dashboard is melting. it started with a small spot on the dash, i thought it was moisture from the air conditioner. a few days later the spot was getting larger. i felt it and it felt like sticky clear glue. now it's getting larger almost all the way across the dash. i took it to the nissan dealership and the guy said he have never seen anything like this. he told me the only thing he can do is order another one for me and that's over $2,000.00. i feel that i should not have to pay for another dashboard, when it's a defect from the manufacturer and it needs to be a recall on this product.. *tr
The dashboard has been melting and getting gooey and sticky for months. this causes a distracting sparkling reflection on the windshield during certain days when it is very sunny and the sun shines directly at windshield. the defect was reported to nissan (dealership in fort lauderdale, florida, and the corporate office) but the company does not want to pay for repairing it because the warranty has expired, despite numerous similar complaints by other owners of the same model and the safety issue. *tr
Dashboard leaking glue like material causing glare on windshield glass. extremely difficult to see while driving due to glare. safety compromised. *tr

Dashboard is melting- part of it has a slick looking surface and part is just collecting dust and dirt. the glare it creates is a driving hazard and i am concerned about the heath risks associated with the toxins associated with the deteriorating material- *tr
My dashboard on my car is melting and i don't think anything necessarily happened to cause it - i just noticed it was sticky at first. it's now to the point where when the sun hits it i have to adjust my line of sight around the glare from it. i was told to report this here. *tr

My dash is melting! it was fine until april 2014 when the weather started getting warmer and the black dash became tacky to the touch. it has now begun melting with shiny/sticky globs all over and makes a horrible glare on the windshield making it hard to see with the glare from the dash. i have tried all sorts of products to see if that would help but nothing does and it is getting worse. *js

My 2008 nissan altima 2.5 showing a residue on front dash about 2 years ago. it has worsened to point where a glare from sunlight reflection disrupts field of vision while driving. i've seen numerous other complaints about the dashboard melting in warmer climates with higher quantity of sunlight. *tr

Dashboard appears to be melting. it is sticky and shiny and pieces lift off with anything that is placed on the dash. the effect causes a significant glare in the sunlight that affects driver line of sight. deterioration has also caused multiple cracks in dash surface that may potentially affect air bag deployment. *tr
The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe has a sticky tar like substance spreading over my dashboard. this limits visibility while driving, driving in the sun it is very difficult to see traffic lights, street signs, and anything else you are trying to see out of the front window. i love my car but it is dangerous! it is impossible to clean or cover up . anything that touches it gets tar like stuff on it that won't come off.when putting on and taking off the sun shield you must be very careful not to touch anything with the sun shade or you will have tar in the interior of your car and your clothes. *tr
I keep my car in immaculate condition. i was cleaning my dash and noticed a very sticky substance. my dashboard is super soft and sinking. like its melting. i hope no toxic fumes are being released and my dashboard doesn't collapse or cause further damage. *tr
I purchased my 2008 nissan altima brand new in april of 2008. my vehicle's dashboard is now melting and disintegrating. as a result, there is now a toxic smell in the interior of the car. i am deeply disappointed with nissan's lack of quality with their interior parts. my biggest concern is that the fumes may pose a health hazard long term. nissan should put this item under recall asap! interestingly enough, my sister-in-law had the same identical problem with the dashboard on her 2006 infiniti fx35. however, nissan issued a recall and replaced her entire dashboard! it seems nissan is unwilling to provide the same level of care, concern, conscientiousness and responsibility with their non-luxury brands. i now understand why nissan corporation has always been lagging behind honda and toyota. this is a quality control issue that demonstrates blatant disregard for the consumer. furthermore, nissan corporation's refusal to issue a recall to correct this problem is complacent negligence on their part. *tr
The dashboard is sticky which sometimes causes a glare on the windshield when driving the vehicle. my daughter is 18 and the primary driver of the vehicle. she has stated that sometimes on sunny days there is a glare on the windshield caused by the sticky dashboard. my concern is for her safety when driving and this causing an accident because of it. we live in texas where the heat and sun can be extreme at times.
The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe has melted (possible plasticizer migration) and it has become very difficult to drive because of the glare it produces on the windshield, this lead to me to veer off the road and into the embankment. the nissan dealer told us that they have seen a lot of dashes on the altima with this problem in florida, but there is nothing they can do because it is out of the initial factory warranty and they claim the nissan extended warranty does not cover it. several florida residents who own 2008-altima coupes are experiencing the same problem. this appears to be a manufacturers defect and has really become a serious safety hazard. i respectfully request you're help in this matter. i can provide pictures if necessary. below are a few forums addressing the situation http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582.html http://www.altimaforums.net/super-sticky-dashboard-t15553.html?t=15553 http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2007-2012-nissan-altima-discussion-2-5-3-5/343066-melting-dashboard-problem.html http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/altima/2008/accessories-interior/dashboard_is_melting.shtml http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2008/nissan/altima/window http://mythreecents.com/showreview.cgi?id=109390. *tr

I have a 2008 nissan altima se sedan. most of the time the car was parked in the garage. car was parked outside several times a week. i noticed my dashboard started to melt and its getting worse. its a safety hazard causing a glare in the day time and could be bad for visibility on the road and i could be breathing in the toxic chemicals from the dashboard. i had a dashboard cover to protect my dash and it still melts and cracking in different places in the dash. my dealer is new city nissan in honolulu, hi i have called them and also called nissan consumer affairs and none of them helped me. my local dealer ignored me for the longest time until they finally said sorry we cant help you, you are out of warranty and for a replacement dash it will cost $2,304.00. i feel like this isn't right and its a safety issue. i have 2 other nissans that are older cars parked outside and there dashboards are not melted. nissan does not want to help or admit this is a defective product. *tr
The dashboard is melting and deteriorating. extremely sticky and shiny. very glary in both night and daytime driving. it's a real visibility issue. airbag deployment may possibly be affected also. nissan agreed to replace the dash but would not pay for the labor cost which was almost $300. this dashboard was constructed of inferior materials and nissan knows it. that is why they agreed to pay for the part. *tr
My dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe is melting and causing a extreme glare while driving. i've gone to the nissan dealer and they refuse to repair my melting dashboard. there is no way to reduce the glare! this is not the consumer's fault... this is a manufacturing defect! *tr
Dashboard is melting and causing a glare, thus making it difficult to see. its a safety hazard. nissan needs to recall melted dashboards. there are multiple people who are experiencing this problem. link: http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582-150.html. *tr
I have a 2008 nissan altima 3.5sl, i live in southeast florida. my dash is "melting" and has become a shiny, sticky black mess that creates an incredible glare on the windshield. i'm aware that this problem has been under investigation for quite some time and i want to add my name to the list of complaints. i found it annoying that the dash was melting, i've had other car dashes crack in the heat, but not melt. the main problem is that the dash is so shiny now it can be nearly impossible to see through the windshield when the sun is out. i first noticed the issue a year or so ago. i've selected jan 1, 2014 arbitrarily. it was around that time that the issue really started being a problem. *tr
I noticed in the beginning of this year my dashboard started to melt. it is getting worse and it makes a glare off my windshield. the glare is so bad that i can barely see out my front window!! *tr
The dashboard is melting with this sticky substance that can't be wiped off. it is so bad now there is a terrible glare that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. *tr
2008 nissan altima, dashboard is melting. it's hard to see when driving it puts a very bad glare on the windshield causing you not able to see out of when sun it out or oncoming traffic lights reflect on the windows . it's very sticky and the dashboard is about to fall apart. knowing that the air bag is in the dash is a very concern due to the dash melting and possible may cause a fire overtime due to wires connected to the dash. there are a lot of complaints on this online even on nissan facebook page and complaints shown on here. this needs to be recalled or fixed before someone gets hurt by not being able to see out there window due to the shiny glare. nissan refuse to fix this defect as the service manger said that the dash should not be melting the way it is. i hope this gets fixed for the safety of all nissan drivers this should be reviewed by corporate nissan. *tr
The dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima appears to be melting. the rubber material that was used to create the dashboard has started to melt becoming very sticky and extremely shinny. the glare from the dashboard shine has become a hazard and is impairing my driving, i cannot see out of my windshield during the day. *tr
The dashboard on my nissan altima is melting. the material has become very shiny and sticky creating a horrible glare on my windshield and i cannot see while i am driving. it is very dangerous and i was told by nissan the melting material is emitting fumes. the windshield also has a constant film on it from the melting material, which combined with the glare is hazardous. *tr
