My dashboard is producing a sticky substance. dealer tells me the substance is glue because the dash is melting. nissan will not help in anyway even though the car has impeccable service records. i am concerned the substance creates a glare on the windshield which becomes a safety concern and i am also very concerned as to what we are inhaling while in the vehicle. these vehicles need to be recalled for faulty parts and someone needs to test these dashboards and see what is going on. i am forced to pay $2300 to replace or risk possible health concerns or lord forbid a horrible accident due to glare.. *tr

I'm another frustrated melting dashboard owner. sticky, partially shiny and glare-producing. when driving in the sun the glare is a definite safety hazard. also, concerned about the fumes and potential carcinogens being omitted that may pose additional health risks. nissan is not standing behind this defect despite hundreds of complaints and accidents reported. *tr

Dash board is very sticky. have called the dealer but they don't seem to care. invested too much $$ for this to happen with no one taking credit and wanting to fix it. the glare is becoming an issue (esp living in the south where the sun shines brightly) your help is greatly appreciated. *tr
The dashboard of our 2008 nissan altima has begun to melt causing it to become very shiny and reflect sunlight directly into the driver's eyes or reflect off of the windshield causing it very difficult to see. the worst thing about it is that is hits you when you least expect it based on the angle of the sun and causing difficulty seeing other traffic/pedestrians. *tr
I own a 2008 nissan altima with 125000 miles which i purchased new. i called nissan usa to report the dashboard melting problem and also report a whining noise coming from the transmission. a case was opened and within a couple of days i was told there was nothing they could do. nissan would have replaced the transmission if i had 120,000 miles, but when i called to report the noisy transmission my actual miles were 124400 miles. they claimed that i'm no longer under the warranty because of the extra 4000 miles. i have owned three previous nissan cars and so far i was very happy with the quality and reliability of the cars. it is clearly that the issues is related to the materials used and parts used in this model and year. i would like nissan to take responsibility for the products they manufacture and sell. *tr

The dashboard of my altima is also getting sticky and the glare is a safety issue. i'm not sure if you have ever tried driving with something like a mirror reflecting a bright light in your eyes, but its an issue. it makes it impossible to see things in a lot of cases; like anytime the sun is out. i almost hit a child today on the way to school because the glare was directly in my eyes and it happened all of a sudden. these dashboards suck and nissan shouldn't be allowed to produce safety hazard ridden things that are sticky and tacky and literally falling apart. every time something nicks it creates a dent in the dashboard. they need to come up with a solution or replace it. *tr
The dashboard is beginning to degrade and become glossy and highly sticky to the touch. it runs the length of the dashboard vents and is spreading. there are at least 2 tv station news reports with video when you google "nissan altima sticky dashboard" . they are below. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/some-nissan-drivers-complain-melting-dashboards/ngrwz/ http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/the-center-for-auto-safety-thinks-melting-dashboards-are-a-safety-defect-and-should-be-recalled. *tr
My nissan altima is developing rust under driver side of car. and i was denied state inspection since it was hazard to passenger of the vehicle. i saw so many complaint with same matters on same year model nissan altima. i contacted nissan to see the issue with my car. and they do not want to look at it since it is not under there recall program. my car does not have 75000 miles on it and it is very unusual to have rust damage to the car at this point of the life of a car. i would like to see if i can get assistance from nhtsa to resolve this issue. *tr
The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe is melting. it has turned into a sticky and gooey substance. when i touch the dashboard my fingers stick and turn black. every time i get into my car i worry the melting dashboard will be a safety issue. the dashboard reflects the sun from the windshield and it causes a reflection, so it sometimes becomes hard to see while driving. in addition to the dashboard melting, it is also beginning to crack. the issue was filed with nissan but they refused to fix or replace the dashboard. *tr
My dashboard is peeling and cracking which is causing vision problems while i am driving due to the glaring sun. i live in florida and my job includes lots of travel during the hottest part of the day. the peeling dashboard and the sun causes a glare on my windshield which hampers my visibility. this is a major problem that may eventually cause me to have a accident if it is not recalled. *tr

Dashboard melting causing glare making visibility somewhat hampered. *tr
A few months ago i noticed the dashboard of my 2008 altima was melting especially around the air vents. there's also a burn smell coming from the shiny area. it's becoming hard to see during the day due to glare from the shiny area. also i did notice my ac system was making strange noises and would shut off the engine when i turned it on. sometimes it blows warm air and has completely died recently. i took it to a mechanic who mentioned that he's never seen anything like a melting dashboard in his 20+ years of repairing cars. he ran a dye test on the ac and strangely there was no freon leak. he had to drain all the freon so that i can't have an accident when the engine shuts off in case i tried to start the ac. i will have to spend $1000 just for the ac alone..... mechanic recommended i consult nissan regarding the melting dashboard. *tr
My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is cracking and soft to the touch and sticky. i'm aware that there are others with the same problem and it is getting worst! i'm aware that it is a matter of time when it will be a safety hazard for me and wife that drive this vehicle. can you please let me know what to do and who to speak to; i'm looking to see if nissan will be taking responsibility and paying for replacing my dashboard. i thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. *tr
Melting dashboard. *tr
Appears to be an issue with my dashboard a sticky surface has appeared within the last few months and i'm concern when it comes to me or anyone driving the vehicle during the day as this causes a glare from the sun that can be distracting and annoying at times. i also done know if i'm breathing any hazardous chemical from this issue, there is no reason for my car to be having this issue as this has occurred on its own, please assist and advise what should be done to get this issue resolved by the manufacture since they don't want to be held liable for this issue and should stand behind their motto in serving their customer for products outside of the warranty. *tr
Dashboard melted. *tr
Sometime in the fall of 2014 i noticed an area on the dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima was beginning to appear "sticky" looking. my first thought was that a drink may have been spilled on the dash when entering/exiting the vehicle and the lingering residue had formed a coating. when i got home i tried wiping the affected area of the dashboard with water on a rag. quickly the rag became stuck to the dashboard material itself and couldn't be moved in a wiping motion any further. the rag took some effort to be separated from the dashboard, and sticking to it was a thick rubbery substance that was the same color black as the dashboard. it was then i realized that the dashboard itself was melting. since then the problem has gotten worse and the area of melted dashboard has increased in size. large spots on the driver and passenger sides' dash are now melted, as well as small areas above the a/c vents. the melted areas have a very shiny appearance that creates significant glare on the windshield. at certain angles with sunlight the glare creates a large visual distraction/obstruction and it is a dangerous safety hazard. the reflection from the dashboard onto the windshield can make it very hard to see pedestrians, other cars, traffic signs; anything that is in the area of windshield with the reflected glare becomes very difficult to see. in addition to the safety concerns, i cannot put anything on the dashboard now. everything i've placed on it will stick to the dash, and will come off with a sticky black rubber coating on it when removed from the dash. it's awful. and i fear that the substance melting could possibly be carcinogenic and making the air in the car toxic. this is a serious problem and there needs to be a recall from the manufacturer to fix it. it is 100% a manufacturer defect. please make nissan address this issue! please help with this! thank you *tr
Dashboard is melting in all over, the material in the dashboard is now very shiny and makes it difficult to see on a sunny day (it's florida). dealership says car is out of warranty and there is no recall by nissan. this is a huge safety issue as it causes a reflection on my windshield severely impairing my visibility. *tr
The dashboard is melting and reflecting on the glass. it makes it hard to see whats in front of you when the sun is hitting on your car.
The dashboard is melting on my 2008 nissan altima. i know first reports were back in 2009 and nothings been done about these dashboards. the dealerships (yes more then one) claim they are helping but i doubt it, if people are still complaining about it today in 2014 means nothings been done to help out the consumers. melting dashboards can cause the airbags too go off when it gets to close, or even electrical issues since there's tons of wiring in the dash and also it puts out a huge glare on the windshield on sunny days meaning it can be really hard to see the road. i'm surprised there hasn't been a recall out yet on this since it is a safety issue now. something has to be done it's a manufacture defect so those dealerships should take charge of there consumers cars and help us/them out with this situation. or are they not concern for our safety? if so that's a huge no-no, could get a lot of dealerships in trouble and lose business that way, so please do something about this. no one wants to pay 1500$+ for a new dash when the manufacturer is at fault here. thank you for the time. *tr
Dashboard is melting!!!!! it is making the dashboard very shiny and it is so hard to see from the glare! i have had several "almost accidents" from not being able to see. clearly this is a default in the material of the dash. i see several others are having the same problem! this needs to be recalled before someone is killed from this stupid default! *tr
