Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 20 mph, a loud banging noise emitted from the transmission as the gears failed to shift properly. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the defective transmission. two years later, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a transmission auto center where the transmission was being rebuilt. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 113,800. ...updated11/21/12 *bf updated 11/30/2012 *js

While driving the vehicle the check engine light came on. shortly after that the car died. i pulled off the side of the road and after several attempts was able to restart the car. the check engine light has come on in the past and after having the computer cleared the problem goes away. this is the first time that car died on me while driving. the problem usually occurs when i shift from park to drive before the rpms drop below 1000. *tr

This issue has actually happened several times since i've had the car. the issue is with the clutch pedal bracket assembly and the clutch master cylinder in the 3.5 se-r model of the car. the clutch pedal bracket since 2009 when i bought the car has broken 8 times. the clutch master cylinder has needed replacing 5 times. the most recent incident (may 2014) the master cylinder failed 2 months after getting it fixed and then again 3 days later after that. the last 2 times, it was replaced by the dealership, and when it failed i was in heavy traffic on the highway. when it fails it's impossible to put the car into gear. honestly, i'm actually surprised i wasn't killed in traffic. *tr

I am unable to move the gearshift in my 2005 nissan altima 2.5 l.. according to the nhtsa has issued tsb 04098 in july 2005 on the issue. i ust use a small screwdriver to press the safety switch to move the vehicle. the dealer cost for correction of this problem is $590.00. *tr

Dear sir, i purchased a 2005 nissan altima ser with a 6 spd. manual transmission approximately 14 months ago used with 33,000 mile and factory drivetrain warranty until 60,000 miles. my car currently has 59,000 miles. about two weeks ago, i brought my car to ira nissan in woburn ma for a re-occurring clutch issue ; clutch pedal sinks to the floor making the car undrivable and grinding in the transmission shifting into third gear. under warranty, nissan replaced the transmission and clutch assembly. last monday, a week after getting my car back, the clutch is once again sinking to the floor just as before, and the nissan dealer is saying because the can't replicate the problem, there is nothing more they can do, leaving me with a car that is unreliable and unsafe.the clutch fails intermittently and usually returns within an hour or so, making the car difficult at best to drive in traffic and making it hard to replicate on cue. the clutch appears to fail after an hour or so of driving or after it gets warm, with no warning. the dealer drove it for 7 mile and says it can't duplicate the issue.. nissan customer service says they know nothing of the issue even though the internet lists over 60 incidents of clutch pedal sinks to floor on 02-06 nissans with standard transmission, especially 05-06 nissan ser"s.- but they have never heard of it? my case number with nissan is 6600267. i use my car primarily for commuting gloucester to woburn and back and i typically don't have an issue, but it has happened 6 or seven time now and i know for a fact this wasn't mentioned in the sales brochure for this model nissan. this is problemdangerous, as you can imagine being stuck in traffic and not being able to move. and not knowing when you can rely on your car, and when you can't? please assist me in making nissan do the right thing and simply fix the car- they replaced the transmission, replaced the clutch and a week later, still under factory warranty won' t do it right. *tr

Car: 2005 nissan altima se-r 6 speed manual transmission 3.5l v6. problem: clutch pedal fell to floor during normal use. this is the second time that this has happened to me. i had the first incident investigated by the dealership with no results. i have reported that incident to nhtsa separately. i had been using my car for a 1500 mile family trip. i was nearly halfway through my 12 hour one day return trip. i got hung up in stopped traffic in ny for about one hour fifteen minutes. we pulled off the highway to a rest stop and had dinner for about 30 minutes. i returned to the car, spent another five minutes in traffic and was moving along at highway speeds again. the car was loaded with 2 adults and 3 children and about 125 pounds of vacation stuff. upon approaching a toll booth on the ny "expressway" i depressed the clutch to begin downshifting and decelerating from roughly 60 mph. the clutch pedal fell to the floor. since this had happened before i was not caught completely by surprise. i put the transmission in neutral and began pumping the clutch as the car coasted in towards the toll booth. i was able to pump the clutch because it did have some small degree of return, but it did not reach the height of the typical pickup point which i estimate to be 6-8 inches off the floorboard. pumping the pedal had no effect. i placed my foot under the pedal and lifted it all the way up. pressing again had the same result. very little friction. on the other side of the toll was dead stopped traffic. there was enough friction in the pedal to engage the clutch plates and to shift between gears. the traffic speed increased and after a few hundred yards the clutch recuperated on its own. i always double declutch and have never had to replace clutch plates in my cars. see this link for many similar consumer stories:http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2005-2006-nissan-altima-se-r-discussion/229124-class-action-lawsuit-clutch-problem.htm. *tr

The motorist and lawful owner of nissan altima 2005 (29k miles) was driving on cloudy but dry july 21 '09, at 9:50am, 4.5 miles from home to the university of arkansas at little rock. motorist pulled into the parking lot adjacent to the student center, and drove around looking for suitable parking spot. after one lap at creeping speed of 5 mph, motorist found an unoccupied parking spot facing the woods. motorist pulled into available parking spot, nose first, and slowed down. when aforementioned vehicle came to a complete still stand, motorist then intended to shift the gearshift from the 'd' into the 'p' position, going through 'n, r'. with right foot on break pedal, motorist shifted gearshift forwards, when the gearshift suddenly got stuck in the 'n' position. the vehicle's engine, however, unexpectedly revved loudly. the vehicle simultaneously accelerated uncontrollably forwards, running over a 4-foot long, 8-inch tall concrete stopper block, then going over the 6-inch high sidewalk, and inevitably moving into the woods, where vehicle hit a tree and finally came to a complete halt, with gearshift still being in 'n' position. shaken by this startling experience and by driver's airbag, motorist instantaneously turned car's engine off by turning the ignition keys counterclockwise. the traumatized and bruised motorist noticed smoke emanating from steering wheel, thus decided to step out of vehicle. at 1st glance, the collision damaged right fender, bottom metal frame, hood, right headlight as well as bumper. witnesses assisted motorist in arranging tow-truck to pick-up incapacitated vehicle. it appears that the cause of this accident lies in mechanical failure: a defective transmission. it's unsafe to drive a vehicle with an undependable transmission. luckily, no pedestrians were in the way of the uncontrollable vehicle. a thorough inspection of the cause of this accident, and a replacement of all faulty parts or vehicle, is highly advisable. *tr

Nissan altima 2005 3.5 v6 clutch pedal that sinks to the floor while being driven. *tr

1. nissan altima s 2005 manual. was driving in a heavy traffic for about 30 min with a/c working. clutch pedal became very light and then stuck to the floor. the car was left on a gear. hardly avoided accident by braking with working engine and then shutting down with key. 2. it occurs again when the car was left in hot sun after driving in a traffic. 3. did not do anything yet. but will go to mechanic if it occurs again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the driver states there was a recall done on the electronic control module last year at 32,433 miles. the contact states they have never had any problems with the vehicle until after the recall was done. the vehicle will jerk while doing high speeds on the highway and recently while driving at 25mph the vehicle completely shut off on it's own. the driver then waited a minute and started the vehicle again and was able to drive it. the failure mileage on the vehicle was 35,000 and the current mileage is 50,000.

I own a 2005 nissan altima ser with a known clutch pedal issue, it was fixed under warranty 2 times and the 3rd time they refused because i was a few miles past the 35k mile warranty even though the repaid was within the 12k miles that it is warrantied for, i had to go elsewhere to fix it because i need my car. i thas happened 2 times since than where i have to keep purchasing pedals because the welds on the pedal do not hold, it is a safety hazard because i will lost my clutch and cant' shift fears in the middle of intersections. this pedal has been replaced 5times and now needs to be replaced for the 6th times and it has damaged my clutch, my mechanic said do to the stress from the bad pedal the forced shift on my clutch have cause it to "slip" and now i need to purchase and have installed a brand new clutch that nissan will not warranty either. this is a known issue with the 2005 and 2006 ser models and nissan will not do a recall or fix the problems that come with it. my mechanic has told me that it is bad engineering and the issue will continue to happen so i have a spare pedal with him at all times. *tr

Car: 2005 nissan altima se-r w/ 6 speed manual transmission and 3.5l v6. the problem is that my clutch pedal bottoms out to the floor board. this has been reported over and over in the nissan forum. unfortunately, only a few people have reported to nhtsa. i used my car on a sunday morning for a short run to the grocery store (approximately 8 miles round trip). i left the car in the direct sunlight on my blacktop driveway all day (about 85 degree f). in the late afternoon i started my car to put it in the garage. before i turned the ignition i depressed the clutch and immediately noticed that there was no pickup point. the pedal was easily depressed to the floorboard and the typical resistance in the pedal throw was nonexistent. the car was already in gear and when i let the clutch out there was barely enough resistance to engage the clutch plates and pull the car into the garage. the pickup point was just a couple of inches off the floorboard, whereas the usual pickup point is anywhere from 6-8 inches. i left the car in the garage and made an appointment on monday. when i started my car on tuesday to bring it in to the dealership, there was no issue at all. i paid my $46.50 to get this on record with the dealer. they of course could not reproduce the error (as with nearly every other person that has had this problem) and saw no clear defects under the hood. i have the complete paperwork from the dealership if the nhtsa odi investigator would like to contact me for additional information. for a history of the many incidents please see this page: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2005-2006-nissan-altima-se-r-discussion/229124-class-action-lawsuit-clutch-problem.html. *tr

Many times after owning my 2005 nissan, i started having to crank the engine a couple of times before it would start. this should not happen on a car that was only 4 years old when it first started happening. also the key gets stuck in the ignition which it has been doing for a couple of years. no one knows what it is. i just put it back in drive then park to take the key out. *tr

Clutch pedal will fall to the floor, resulting in an inability to shift gears. extremely dangerous considering that i was in the passing lane when it happened and had cars behind me. *tr

Timing chain on my 2005 nissan altima is making a buzzing/whining noise at the engine area. this whole process started on wednesday, february 11, 2009 when the nissan service department found the issue and stated that it should be fixed to the amount of $1,578.00 (+tax). they even sent a "cpia - goodwill recommendation" request to which nissan's message back was "goodwill is not recommended". at that time i explained to them that it did not make any sense to me why a timing chain that is meant to outlast the life of the engine would need to be replaced when my vehicle only has 76,717 miles on it. i have always ensured it is well maintained at the intervals recommended and i am a very safe and good driver and keep my vehicle in good working condition, it is not neglected in anyway. they suggested that i phone the nissan customer care line to see if there was anything further that could be done. after 6 phone calls with nissan customer care they too decided that they felt it was out of warranty and not their problem. so i went back to the dealership and received a recommendation to speak with the service manager. i sent him a very detailed email requesting assistance, he stated he'd look into my concerns. unfortunately, he too received the same response that nissan feels they are not obligated in anyway to repair the timing chain on my vehicle because it is out of the warranty period. at this time i plan to pursue this further by contacting the better business bureau and lemon law to see if they can assist in anyway. i believe that it is ridiculous for the consumer to pay the cost of replacing a part that should be replaced by the manufacturer since it is obviously a defective part, since it's designed to out live the life of the engine, last i checked 76,000+ miles on a nissan is not the life of the engine. i hope that nissan will finally realize they are responsible and assist in resolving this matter for me. *tr

I own a nissan altima se-r, i purchased the car pre-owned with 42k miles on it. after having the car for just a month the clutch will sink to the floor and i will not be able to shift the car into any gears. this has been an on going problem since i've owned the car and its going to be 2 years of owning the car this summer. many of the times the clutch has lost pressure going over bridges and stopping to pay tolls and during traffic. how can i operate my vehicle correctly if the clutch keeps loosing pressure because the master and slave cylinder looses pressure. how safe is that for not only myself but other motor vehicle operators on the road. *tr

I purchased this car brand new. a little after it was 3 years (08)that i had it the transmission went out. nissan told me that the car was over mileage so i was responsible out of pocket. so i took it to a mechanic 1200 dollars out of pocket, a little over a year (09), same problem another 1200, in 2012 once again another 1000 and now as of last month transmission number 4 another 1000. as of today july 30. 2013 the car once again is stalling. friend of mind told me bout the class action lawsuit bout the nissans trans. as a woman who depends on her car alot i can tell you that owning this car has not been pleasant at all. i have had it stall on me at busy intersections, highways, and in the middle of the nite while working. nissan doesn't seem to realize that their way of doing business and hiding the truth behind their defective vehicles is and continues to put people lives in jeopardy. all they care about is their product being out on the street. if i would have known that such a pretty car was a piece of crack, i would have spent alot less than 20000 dollars on a new car that was so called good quality. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 5 mph, the clutch pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. suddenly, the transmission brake engaged and caused the engine to stall. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the contact experienced difficulty shifting gears and heard a grinding noise. the failures occurred on five separate occasions. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 50,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut off entirely. there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact was able to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. the dealer stated that the crankshaft position sensor failed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical. the failure and current mileages were less than 61,000.

When car is cold, clutch has trouble, this has been since the day i got it at 45,000 miles. the clutch has always had to go the floor to engage and i was recently told by a mechanic friend of mine that is dangerous. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving between 65-70 mph, the contact attempted to downshift the vehicle upon approaching a toll both. the clutch extended to the floorboard and the gear could not be shifted. the clutch eventually returned to its normal position. the dealer would not assist. the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 95,000.

On occasion, my car clutch sinks to the ground and loses all pressure. the car would be out of commission until the pressure comes back in about a 1/2 hr. nissan has constantly said that they have never heard of such problems and always check my car when the problem is not there. this can be very hazardous in heavy traffic. *tr

Motor mount failure. this is a continuing problem starting at 20000 miles. there are numerous internet and blogs with other nissan owners experiencing the same problem causing hundreds of dollars in repairs and other safety problems like exhaust manifold cracks leaking into the environment. *tr

2005 nissan altima with deceleration problems. consumer states that the vehicle will decelerate from what ever speed to about 20 mph. he states that the dealer keeps saying bring it in while the vehicle is having the problem. *kb the consumer stated the throttle chamber was replaced and the fuel injection serviced, however later in the month, the problem re-surfaced again. the vehicle always seemed to return to normal operation after the vehicle was turned off and turned back on again. the problem happened again on december 7th and 15th. *jb

Automatic transmission solenoid malfunctioned. caused the car to make loud thud and bang into gear between 1st and 2nd gear. accident near miss, but no actual wreck. this is a widespread problem as any online forum on the altima reveals... *tr

Buy 2005 nissan altima ser 02/05, at 4,000 miles the clutch pedal begins to continuously fall to floor, requiring operator to lift with foot, take to dealership they are unable to duplicate, this goes on for months. then driving home from work one morning it sticks to floor and does not recover. limp to dealership. dealer replaces clutch pedal and spring to correct, shortly after fails again, dealer replaces slave cylinder, fails again dealer replaces pressure plate and clutch throw out bearing, fails again, dealer replaces master cylinder for clutch, by this time car has 38,700 miles on it. seems to work fine for about 12 months 20k and down shifting on and expressway exit ramp clutch pedal sticks to floor and clutch explodes. currently waiting to see if nissan is going to fix or i am going to have to pay. so far i have been lucky with the clutch failures and no one has been injured as a result. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 55 mph, the transmission would skip without warning. as of march 25, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 37790.

Transmission failure. *tr

I have a 2005 altima and after driving for awhile or when it is hot outside the clutch pedal goes to the floor. when i took the car into redlands nissan they replaced the throw out bearing but, the car still does the same thing. when i traffic the car will not shift - it is extremely scary!! but, the dealer says that i have to pay to replace the unit. why that part should last a long time? there must be a defect and i want it changed by nissan. the car is awesome but this is just plain stupid and very dangerous! help!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima.the contact stated that when depressing the clutch while shifting gears, the clutch would drop too quickly to the floor making it difficult to change gears. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer approximately six times and they were unable to duplicate the failure. approximately three years later, the contact experienced trouble trying to shift into neutral gear when the clutch pedal moved too quickly to the floor. after repeated attempts she was able to shift into second gear. the vehicle was taken directly to an authorized dealer where the spring retainer was replaced. a bearing-clutch and limited slip were also installed. approximately 2 months later the failure began to recur. the vehicle was again taken to an authorized dealer where it was in the process of having the failure diagnosed. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 40,200.

I purchased a 2005 nissan altima in 2006 with 13, 000 miles. shortly after purchasing it, i began to have issues with a "spongy" clutch...meaning it would become very loose. often it would have to be pumped and then shoved into gear. i brought the car to a local nissan dealer complaining of the issues with the clutch. they had it for a day and couldn't find anything wrong with it. of course, back then it was still under warranty. the problem never went away. in fact, it became worse until it was finally a safety issue. this clutch issue would occur at random times in different weather making it very difficult to predict or avoid. often, i was driving in traffic and unable to shift into the next gear. eventually, i had to have the master and slave cylinder replaced and the entire clutch system replaced at my own expense. both were temporary solutions. again, i had problems with the clutch. my car clutch now sticks to the floor making it impossible to switch gears. this is very dangerous. often i am struggling to get the car moving in traffic or at turns putting me and my children in danger. before i pay to have the same issue repaired again, i did some research this time, and this seems to be a common problem among this year and make of nissan. to me, this is an issue that nissan needs to address as it is a safety issue for thier consumers. i have records of all repairs beginning with the initial complaint. in my opinion, nissan needs to be accountable and recall and fix the problems before it results in a fatal accident. *tr

I had the clutch drop to the floor, get spongy and really low when i'm driving. it happened several times, each time costing me money to sit up in a hotel or miss work many states away. every single time i take it to the dealer they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. *tr

On random occasions, the clutch pedal looses pressure. it engages and disengages very close to floor. pressing the clutch pedal is very soft until it is almost completely depressed. the situation is random and typically last 5 to 10 minutes and then corrects itself. i have taken the car to the nissan dealer to have it inspected, but it was not acting faulty at the time and they claimed there was no problem, no tsb or recalls. i have called to notify them again that it still occurs and they suggest that i bring it in when it happens, but since it comes and goes, this is not practical. it does seem to be related to when the car is hot from either city traffic or idling for an extended period of time. there are several threads on this topic at www.nissanclub.com for the altima, with many owners experiencing the same problem and the same results from the dealer. some have found resolution be replacing the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. *tr

An existing recall on this vehicle should include the 3.5l engine as well as camshaft/crankshaft and tcm. all cause similar life-threatening symptoms while driving the vehicle suddenly powers completely off briefly losing all power to lights etc, decelerate rapidly and you lose steering control and speed control. vehicles come up on you quickly at night and even if you get the vehicle restarted you have no power in transmission and merely limp on at an idle speed. very very dangerous. why it wasn't included in the original 2007 recall is nissan trying to save a buck. they used the same mfg & same parts as in the 2.5l. they knowingly withheld it from being included. i also contacted them about the tcm. keep in mind the were biting their nails after being presented with a class action suite regarding the defective tcm. luckily for them it was dismissed temporarily. but they never mentioned any similar complaints when they responded to me and never offered any resolution to the problem.

My clutch pedal gets stuck to the floor at times. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan se-r. on several occasions over the past 3 years i have owned the car, the clutch failed. as many others have stated, this was impossible to replicate , but a very serious and unsafe issue. we were getting no relief from our dealerships and the manufacturers. the clutch will sink to the floor and i was unable to engage into any gear except neutral. tried to bring the car in, but the closest i got was a street away when the clutch engaged again. i knew if they can't duplicate it there was nothing they could do. at least when it was under warrantly. that was what i was told for the 3 years i had the car. i live in atlanta and travel on the major highways, trying to get over 5 lanes of traffic in neutral was very unsafe. i guess it was a good thing i have about 6 airbags in the car so when someone plowed into me, i won't die and maybe no one else will either. this was a real issue that many people stated on nissan forums as well. attention needed to be drawn to this issue. *ak

The clutch stays depressed to the floor and does not allow you to shift. *jb

My clutch in my 2005 altima se-r has sank to the floor causing me to pump the clutch while driving. i believe this is unsafe for any driver. this not only causes a wreck by not engaging in gear, it also put others in danger if my car goes out. *nm

I recently had an incident where my clutch lost pressure while driving on i-95 and was unable to get the car into gear. this almost caused me to get rear ended going 80 mph. i complained to the dealer several times but each time they tell me they cannot duplicate the problem. the clutch loses pressure only after driving during hot extended periods. i am very concerned for my families safety in this vehicle and cannot get the dealer to correct the problem. i have also uncovered many other altima users who are having the problem with their clutch that i am having on a nissan altima forum. please help!!!! *jb

2005 nissan altima. noticed transmission slipping at 59,000 miles. took to local dealership at that time. they refused to even consider it a warranty issue because the transmission fluid was not changed at 30,000 miles. owners manual has several maintenance schedules. mine falls into the category of substantial hwy. driving and does not require the fluid be changed until 100,000 miles. i continued to pursue the claim even after the 60,000 mile warranty expiration period. i am now told that claim will be denied because a diagnostic test was not done when i took the vehicle in at 59,000 miles. the dealership changed the fluid on my first visit (at my expense) and very bluntly told me that if the problem persisted, i was on my own. they never offered to do a diagnostics test. the dealership finally did a diagnostics test at 67,000 miles and determined that the transmission was bad, but they will not replace under warranty. *jb

When driving my vehicle the clutch drops down to the floor making it very difficult if possible to put it in a gear. it gets to a point where you can not put the car in 1st gear at all. this problem has been going on since i have owned the car. i have tried to get with nissan to repair the defective vehicle and all they say is that they can not get the problem to repeat for them. it usually corrects itself from around one hour turned off to a few days before the clutch would get back to the normal position. this has put me and my family in a vulnerable situation where i had almost veered off the road and straight into a gas station. this really needs to be addressed by the manufacture and take the responsibility for there defective engineering. its all over the internet where nissan altima owners have the same serious issues with the infamous clutch dropping down to the floor where you can not drive the vehicle at all!

Car would stall at low speeds or when stopped. i took the car to the dealership, they explained to me that my crankshaft position sensor was failing and that they would replace it for approximately $600. i then took the car to a private mechanic who replaced the sensor for $222.91. car purchased in 2004. additional work required: engine replacement, wheel bearings replacement, transmission replacement, and interior panels replacement. i found information of this campaign (07v527000) through www.nhtsa.gov and i've contacted nissan. nissan claimed that there was no such campaign and they could not help me. the campaign that they show for the crankshaft position sensor is for the 2002-3 altima models. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while accelerating the transmission hesitates to shift. and when it shifts, it is a rough transition. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who changed the ground wire. this did not correct the problem therefore the dealer determined the transmission needed to be replaced. also, while depressing the brake pedal the brakes squeaked and when driving at 10 mph the brakes made a squeaking noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on four occasions. the first time dust was blown off the brakes. on the second and third visit the brake pads were replace. the fourth time, the brakes were determined to be 'glazed' and nothing could be done to repair the problem.

When the weather gets hot, my clutch medal becomes very lose (or perhaps loses the hydraulic pressure?) and drops, such that i can only change gears with the last inch or so of the pedal. sometimes it gets so bad that the pedal drops all of the way to the floor and the clutch cannot be used to change gears. this often happens in stop and go traffic on hot days and is very dangerous, as it seems to happen spontaneously. it has happened every summer that i have owned the car, but have never been able to replicate it for a mechanic or the dealership and was thus not able to get it fixed while it was still under warranty.

Noises from clutch, noises from transmission. since day 1. rough engagement of 2nd gear. clutch makes many creaking noises, transmission whines in every gear. 2nd gear and 3rd gear grind occasionally, and 2nd gear has a very rough engagement at times. nothing has been done to remedy the problem yet. *jb

The clutch pedal will sink to the floor during driving. sometimes the clutch pedal will sink so low that it lays on the floor. when this happens i am unable to switch gears at all. i will have to pull the car to the side of the road and wait for about 10-15 minutes. the problem occurs at random times and doesn't seem to be associated with any particular event during driving. it occurs during different times of day, different weather types and at different traveling speeds. the issue has been ongoing for about 3-4 years on my car. it was first reported to the dealership while the car was still under full warranty with about 15,000 miles on the car. the dealership claims they have been unable to re-create the problem and have not replaced any parts. the last visit i took it in the technician topped off the clutch fluid, but this did nothing to resolve the problem. i have spoken to other nissan altima owners with manual transmissions and many are experiencing the same problem with no resolution. *tr

Sudden failure of clutch to go back up to normal position (remained depressed and failed to shift to another gear) while driving nissan altima se-r at freeway less than 2 weeks after purchase. unable to drive car safely, it forced me to stop on side of road. drove it to the nearest nissan dealer in santa monica, ca but cannot duplicate the problem. reassured that it is okay and drove car back and forth to work until clutch got burnt and we were charged of approx $1500.00 for the repair. we were back and forth to the nissan dealer since then for creaky noises when stepping clutch and shifting, difficulty to shift especially in the first run in the morning, and clutch continued failure to return to normal position when depressed. took the car to the dealers many times now for these problems more than normal maintenance for a car of less than 2 years. please advise. can't afford to drive an unsafe and unreliable car nowadays for considerable amount of money we paid. nt. *nm

Dt: the contact stated the fuel system and cluster module had to be replaced with less than 800 miles on the vehicle. there was a pinging noise coming from under the mid section. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they stated this noise was normal. a local mechanic determined it was a broken catalytic converter. based on complaints on a website she felt that a clamp nut may be loose. this has not been addressed by the dealership. after 90 minutes in the vehicle the contact became dizzy by what she felt may be related to the exhaust system. the transmission jerked, and hesitated in low gears. the dealership has not been able to diagnose the problem with the transmission. the front windshield defroster partially defrosts the driver's side, but did not work at on the passenger's side. the vehicle has not been seen by the dealership for the defroster. *ak
