Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while attempting to shift the vehicle from park into drive, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal was stiff. the contact stated that the vehicle had been purchased and delivered to her residence by an unknown dealer. the dealer was informed of the failure and the mechanic was able to replace the rear passenger side caliper at the contact's residence. additionally, while driving 25 mph, smoke emitted from the front driver's side wheel. the contact was informed that the brake rotor and caliper needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. neither a dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the recent failure. the approximate failure mileage was 154,000. *tt consumer stated police informed the consumer the vehicle was not inspected. *jb

2005 nissan altima1n4al11d... slow to accelerate after a turn or from a full stop. slow to accelerate when speedometer goes to zero during drive time. vehicle speeds up even when brake applied causing jerking motion.

Nissan used parts in the timing chain system which prematurely fail and will not cover the repair after warranty. the issue was not able to be discovered until it had already failed and in this case, is not a repair the owner can perform on their own. certain mechanics have even chose not to perform this repair and the ones which are able to, charge in the $2000+ range. when contacting nissan about this issue, they were aware of this problem but had said it would have to have been repaired while under warranty. once the timing is effected, the engine and drive train seem to have dropped in performance in which i have very sluggish acceleration and cannot ready speeds over 30 mph. there is no way i was able to even check if the timing chain system had signs of going bad, and if there was a recall, this issue could have been avoided for myself and others. this faulty system creates an unsafe, unreliable machine which nissan should take full responsibility.

Transmission rough shifting between gears. it hesitates while accelerating and then stops or jerks.

Transmission problems... at about 100,000 miles, car began jerking while in motion from stop or red light.. would be fine for a while and then again began jerking. at approximately 100,000 miles, transmission completely not working.. car is fine when on reverse but will not accelerate beyond first gear when on drive "d". very expensive to fix a car that other than this is in great condition, car is not operable at this time.

Transmission shift erratic from 1 to second on upshifting and clunks hard from 2 to 1 on slowing down.

Last year, i noticed my service engine light had appeared. i had the code checked and it was the crank shaft sensor. i had this part replaced and it drove fine for a while. about two months ago, this light came back on and the sensor had gone bad again. this causes my car so drive very sluggish and go dead when driving at a low rate of speed. i did some research and saw where nissan had a recall campaign for this part on the same year/make/model of my car. i contacted them and they said my car wasn't covered under their recall and they refuse to help me. this is the 2nd time this has gone bad. i think my car should be covered as well. they told me to report this issue to nhtsa.

The car had been shifting erratically for a while now and, though the transmission has been regularly service it now has failed. it began banging into gear when trying to put it into forward or reverse.it will not go into filth gear and nissan is aware of the problem with most of these transmission they have not voluntarily re-called them. there needs to be intervention via the government & a class action suit that will actually go forward as it seems like the last one was voluntarily dis-banned. it makes me wonder if the initiators were paid off.

Car shuddered and rpm dropped and then came back up to current rpm level. came to stop light and vehicle was then put into limp mode. would not accelerate and rpm's would not go over 2000. pulled over and turned car off. restarted car and began to try and drive it again. service engine light came on and vehicle would not shift gears. tried to manually shift the automatic trans and it would hit hard upon gear shifts but was able to make it home the remaining few miles.. brought vehicle in to a mechanics shop the next morning and the codes indicate cam position sensor failures. i see numerous complaints and a recall for this under r2022 but of course my vehicle is not listed. this appears to be a common problem and all vehicles should be included in this recall as it is completely dangerous issue that comes out of nowhere while driving the vehicle. i am waiting for the vehicle to be repaired to see if the problem is completely resolved at my expense. any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Takata recall. i bought my car exactly 11 months ago on february 2015. i first noticed when i bought my car that it jerked when putting it in drive and reverse, i talked to the dealership and the salesman convinced me it is nothing. it got worse over time. i finally took the car to a transmission shop who said motor mounts need replacing. i then found a nissan thread about the defective transmission and automatically was able to see that my car is doing 90% of the issues listed. it now jerks when i put in drive, reverse, when i'm coming to a stop, when i push the break, and when i exceed more then 60 mph it jerks. after reading tons of threads about this problem it seems to be very common amongst the nissan altima 05s. i am scared my transmission will go out and i don't know what to do, i was told this problem was nothing but now it definitely seems like an issue that nissan judged pushed under the rug and kept telling me was nothing.

I was backing into a space in a garage and the car just speed backwards on its own at high speed. the car was totaled. this is the second time this happened where the car seemed to go on its own. last year it went forward and i could not stop it right away. this happened in the same garage. luckily it finally stopped and i did not hit another car. *tr

Went to go start the car, pushed in clutch as normal, started fine, but when i went to go put the car in gear, it wouldn't go. i lifted the clutch and it was stuck on the floor. i had to manually lift it up with my hand. when i started it again it was fine. then when i am driving it does not go up all the way it drops about 2 inches and stays which grinds the clutch and causes premature wear! *tr

While driving my 2005 nissan altima, it appears to have shifting issues that are known to nissan. nissan needs to step up to the plate and stand by their product. hard shift from 1st to 2nd at initial start up. also have shifting issues from 3rd to 4th. the shifting from 3/4 is when vehicle is at operating temps. there is a very hard shift and delay in shift. i have called several dealers, and all claim not to have any recalls or bulletins, or deny hearing of any shifting issues. very poor customer service. going into 4th from 3rd, vehicle seems to have a delay and stalls, unit revs, and finally kicks into gear. *tr

The clutch will go to the floor. it will happen whenever it wants to. then it will go back to normal. it happens when you start it or in the middle of driving. no warning signs. it just happens. *tr

Car starts and stalls/engine light on. was told it is the crank and cam sensor as well as the transmission input speed sensor. we noticed this is a big issue and many cars have been recalled for this issue but not all, including ours. if this is such a major issue why are only some being repaired by dealer. is there anything we can do to get the dealer to repair it. this is my father's car but it is my information below. he doesn't speak english. thank you very much. *tr updated 4/13/2015*js

Trying to leave for work one morning and my car stops at a traffic light. i put my car in park and try to turn it on, and it does but as i start speeding up it turns off again (at the intersection) and now the check engine service light comes on. it almost caused the car behind me to rear end me but he swerved to avoid an accident. i found out it was a faulty crankshaft from the mechanic and told me to call the dealership because he thought there was a recall. l called the dealership and they said there was a recall but not on my car (different year), instead they said they could change the part for $350 with labor. so i could have seriously injured someone or vise versa and it's not their fault? i'm am so upset about how they are not at fault for making parts that don't work and at the end they aren't liable...updated 09-24-14 *bf *tr

Vehicle briefly shut down while driving beginning 2014, like a hick-up, interruption of power. however it would continue. no real problems at first. then, began to completely power off, difficult to restart and i'd lose auto transmission function and have to manually shift which bucked every gear. park it for a while, restart and it'd drive just fine until the engine was warm then it'd power off...all over again.. mechanic stated it was the tcm. replaced it, service engine light went off, seemed fine. now it's stalling and same issues with tranny. now pulling a camshaft sensor code. ugh! i bought this car used in 2014 and it's only been drivable for 3 months. the biggest pain in my [xxx]. should've bought a horse instead. nissan you manufacture [xxx]poor products knowingly and hide!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My 2005 nissan maxima bought used didn't even have it for six months transmission failed. when ever it is driven for 15 or so minutes it wont shift gears and when coming to a stop it feels like someone slammed into me from behind. i feel very unsafe in this vehicle. i noticed that this is a common problem with this make and model. what is going to be done about this? *tr

My transmission slips and sometimes clunking noise when it shifts at low speed.

My wife was driving the car at 25 mph and the car lost all speed as if the brakes were implied and almost caused a three car pile up. now the car is stuck in 5th gear. i am really worried because my 2 year old daughter was in the car at the time. i have done research online and this is a major problem. *tr

Transmission control module; vehicle suddenly has an unexpected loss of power on highway and will not change gears. camshaft sensors; sudden loss of power traveling at high rate of speed, unexpected stalling or engine to shut down and not restart. both very dangerous because you almost get run over by the vehicle behind you. they come up on you too fast, continuing their normal highway speeds not realizing your vehicles loss of power until theyre right up on you then have to either slam on their brakes or make sudden lane change without properly signaling warning other drivers. timing chain guide and timing chain tensioners; wear out prematurely causing loosening of the timing chain, makes a very loud clanking or ticking sound asbit hits the guide and can cause damage to the engine. struts mounts; corrode and wear out creating a rough and unstable steering control and clanking sound as the struts hit when driving over uneven roadways, cracks, driveways and speed bumps. makes it more difficult to steer cause the vibration and rattling in the front end. this occurs in the 3.5 liter engine. there has already been service bulletins and recalls on the 2.5 liter engine but not 3.5. the issues are the same for both engines. the same parts/manufacturers are used on both yet the 3.5 liter wasnt included. problems are ongoing daily. its very unsafe.

The transmission is stuck in 5th gear, even if you try to downshift it manually it wouldn't come out of 5th gear. *tr

1. precat failure which led to needing of a complete long block replacement. @ 49875 miles 2. clutch pedal assembly caused premature clutch failure and replacement of manual transmission.@ 94571 miles 3. passenger side floor has completely rotted thru!!!! @ 100000 miles, this cuts the cake! car is junk!

I have a 2005 altima se-r 3.5 v6 i was leaving a mcdonald's parking lot and as soon as i put the car in reverse there was a hard jerk and the transmission did not engage properly. the car reversed after a couple seconds and when i put it in drive a hard jerk and the car was in 5th gear. no other gears were available. i parked the car and shut if off...after a few seconds i started it back up and threw it in reverse and got the same result, i put it in drive then tiptronic and saw a 5 (5th gear). i called a couple friends and mechanics they said it a fail safe. so i waited again and tried to restart the car and it took a good 10-15 seconds to crank and after i reversed the car would die. i was only trying to get home (1 mike down the road) because i did not trust this car to bring me anywhere at this point. after a couple start then shut downs and letting the car sit for a few i was able to get the car running and driving in all the gears. i got on the boulevard and i was going about 20-30 and the car dies on me. luckily it was the middle of the night and the was no traffic. i restart the car and its running in 5th gear for about 10-15 seconds and then i see my rpms going up as speed going down. the transmission was not engaging and i knew something was definitely wrong at this point. i pull to the side and pop the hood, the was so much heat but the car was not overheating. i call my mechanic and he says let it sit a bit. 20 minutes later, car cooled down a bit and a reliable friend and mechanic come help me push the car into a parking lot. we later find out the transmission failed. fluid was still red, not burned but something else was going on inside. $2000+ later and a replacement tranny the car is up but still dying at random times, won't start. diagnosis crank and camshaft sensors. the transmission also goes straight to 5th gear and car stalls in traffic. *tr

Car felt hot even after sitting and when weather was cool. car cut off on me at a stoplight, and another time while stopped. car seemed to slip gears a few times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the vehicle jerked as it changed gears. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.

This recall number, #03v084 describes my situation precisely. my vehicle currently has 97,000 miles on the odometer and i have been experiencing (over the last course of a year) severe oil consumption. soon after i changed my oil in may of 2013, i began to notice unusual engine noise. i took my vehicle to a mechanic and he discovered that my motor was only running on a quart and a half of oil. the mechanic replenished my oil to its normal level and since then, the motor consumes oil at an abnormally rapid rate. according to the nhtsa??s recall #03v084, the catalytic converter disintegrates and the particles of the converter are drawn back into the motor, which causes scaring on the cylinder walls. this problem is the only logical explanation for my vehicle's rapid oil consumption. it??s my intention to approach nissan of north america about this issue. i would greatly appreciate your support. *tr

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and engine shut off, was barely able to get to the side of the freeway before the car came to a complete stop. it was the most scary experience i have ever had in my life. the ses light came on only after loosing all control. i was told at the shop that this is a common issue with some altimas and that they had a recall. *tr

I purchased my 2005 nissan altima on october 6, 2012 with the assurance from the dealership that the transmission was good and strong. my wife drove the vehicle home and upon arriving home she said that it was driving rough. not knowing anything about vehicles, she stated that it drove like someone learning to drive a manual car. she said that it was jerking and shifting hard like it was in the wrong gear(especially upon accelerating between 1st and 2nd gear and when coming to a stop, downshift is really hard. also coming from reverse to drive, it would idle as if in neutral when pressing the gas then suddenly jump very hard into actual drive). she became to frightened to drive the car. in meanwhile i took the vehicle to a local nissan dealer(not the nissan dealership it was purchased from) to have it checked out and it was said that i needed to replace the transmission. i called the nissan dealership out in gwinnett, georgia where i purchased the vehicle and told them of the problem. they told me to bring it in and have them check it. i took it not knowing if it would even make it. they checked it out and indeed it was the transmission needing to be replaced. the nissan dealership would not resume any responsibility for fixing my vehicle because i bought it "as is". as i read the cmplaints on this site and about a pending class action suit against nissan for faulty transmission design in the 2005-2006 altimas and other nissan vehicles, it is apparent to me, that they need to do a recall before someone gets into an accident and gets killed. nissan knows this transmission is poorly designed and have done nothing but take peoples money in replacing the transmission a $3,000-$4,000 cost. usually at the customers expense because car is out of warranty. one more thing, there is no warning that anything is wrong with the car, no service engine soon light -nothing. help!! *tr

After 20 min or so of idling in traffic, then a 10 minute freeway drive at legal speeds i was approaching the off ramp and the clutch went to the floor, no hydraulic pressure. i was able to move out of the way of traffic without incident and pull over. after 10 min of talking to my insurance company for a tow, i noticed partial pressure restored and drove slowly home. now, with research, i have seen this is extremely common and dangerous. too many complaints have been filed online and with nissan, yet there is no resolution and what's worse, no specific answer to the problem. i hope nhtsa doesn't wait for a serious injury or death to occur before this is looked into, a google search of altima clutch recall brings up over a dozen forums with numerous complaints of the same problem. *tr

Rattling noise in engine, unusual engine vibration and muffler sound coming from engine. this can be dangerous this screw is located in the engine and could cause $7500 dollars of damage. if this screw was to come loose it could ruin engine compressor, destroy the exhaust manifold, o2 sensor and power valve plates. i search to see if there was a recall on this and it seem to be or talk of it. call dealership to see if a recall was issued. some website suggest there was one, what has happen to quality products. if there was one they are not upholding it. recall should never expire, for public safety. *tr..updated 10/24/12 *bf the consumer would like to retract her complaint. the vehicle has since been repaired. updated 10/25/12

Clutch loses pressure and sits on the floor. shifting is minimal and extremely forced to get in to gear. this happened from a stop, getting on a highway. a month later, it is happening again. with two small children, this makes me nervous to drive with them in the car. i have researched and found an unacceptable amount of complaints regarding the same exact problem. why has this not been a recall issue yet?? i suggest it becomes one, before numerous lawsuits, from accidents, occur..... *tr

The clutch pedal lost pressure after idling for over thirty minutes, while in traffic, and after the engine has gotten hot and being driven for a couple of hours. the pedal will fall to the floor and you cannot switch gears. the stick shift won't even move into neutral and the car jerks really hard. it will sometimes cut off in the middle of driving if you don't reach down and pull the pedal up with your hand. this has cause me to run off the road because i could not down shift or go into neutral, i recently ended up tapping the rear of someone elses vehicle at which my daughter is still complaining her neck hurts. this is a defective part dealing with the hydraulics and is very dangerous. a lawsuit is sure to be on the way now that i have wen to several dealerships only for them to tell me nothing is wrong with the car because it won't do it for them. all nissan forums are filled with customers having the same issues with these year model cars. nissan is about to kill somebody. *tr

While driving the clutch pedal will loose all pressure and will fall to the floor. the vehicle must be shut off and left prior the pressure building back up in the clutch. this is extremely dangerous as the driver is unable to shift gears or put the vehicle in neutral. this is a notorious problem with all nissan altima se-r with manual gear boxes. this problem will cause an accident and get someone killed. tt

I have a 2005 nissan altima 3.5se. it's a one-owner, and was brand new when i bought it. this car has been relatively dependable--my issue is this: i noticed a metal "whirring" sound around 50000mi whenever i would pull out from an idle position. i inquired about the noise through a mechanic employed with the dealership i bought the car from--of course, the mechanic said--"those things tend to be a little noisy by nature, on occasion!" so, i continued to drive my "occasionally noisy" altima for another 58000 miles. just paid the thing off 2 months before my major issue occurred. i apparently was a fortunate nissan owner (even though i don't feel like it)--because apparently altimas and maximas are notorious for timing chain failure. seems the chain gets a little "used" and begins making the noise i experienced, and then can ultimately completely fail. needless to say...i have a $2,000.00+ repair on my hands.the mechanic i am hiring said that most nissans with timing chain issues fail long before mine did (mileage-wise!).my problem is with nissan, because nissan is aware of these timing chain failures, and does nothing about them. my car should have been on a recall thousands of miles ago, but wasn't...because nissan has been allowed to overlook some very important mechanical issues. i need a timing chain, or my car is of no use whatsoever to me.the replacement part for my timing chain is not the original part that was put on my car from the factory! imagine that! nissan knows that they put "bum" parts on our altimas and maximas when they were built in their factories! --- i say nissan should be forced to replace every single timing chain that they put on our american-bought nissan cars--at no cost to the consumers. they should be forced to recall. *tr

As i was driving from delaware to new york, i hit the i-95 around 5pm; typical rush our time. as i began to approach heavy traffic i proceeded to slow down. by the time my speed decreased to 25mph, my steering wheel got stiff and the car felt light as if the car was completely off and left in neutral and rolling down a hill. indeed the car had stalled, and all my dash lights switched on (alt, oil, brake and battery lights). i tried my best to steer into the emergency lane to avoid any possible accidents. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and shifting into different gears, it would not move. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notifed and they were unaware of the failure. the failure and current mileages were approximately 92,000. the vin was unavailable.

1. for the past year the clutch pedal depresses to the floor during periods of increased use. started out happening once every other week. clutch would still engage until friday june 3rd, 2011. clutch failed to engage in traffic. 2. failure starts during increased use, heavy traffic, & during hot days, especially when air conditioner is used. incident started occurring about 1 year ago and has increased in frequency, happening now at least 5 times a week. sometimes it will happen 3 times a day. when it finally failed i was in traffic & unable to shift any gears. 3. managed to drive car to repair shop where i was told the clutch had completely failed. having it replaced now. car is only at 60,000 miles. nissan forums have many owners experiencing same problems with the clutch failure.

Premature transmission failure x2. *tr

Clutch failure - repeated, temporary clutch failure. frequency is unpredictable and random - sometimes months apart between occurances. duration of occurance has not exceeded 10 minutes, then clutch behavior is normal and can drive normally. petal "sticks" to floor and must be pulled up by hand in order to engage and change gears. all parts of clutch assembly have been replaced (petal, master and slave hyd. cylinder, corroded bleeder valve) and problem continues to happen. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph the vehicle began to decelerate and shift out of gears. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated the transmission would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle violently jerks while accelerating and decelerating. the failure occurred at all speeds. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the motor mounts were replaced; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable.

Clutch pedal began to creak when depressed and would begin to engage very close to the floor when car was driven in town and reached normal operating temperature. first failure was shortly after that when returning from a family trip to missouri to colorado. clutch pedal fell to floor and remained there, preventing a downshift or to neutral. "floated" the transmission into neutral and pulled pedal back up with my foot. was able to get the car home by lifting the pedal after every shift. replacement of the clutch master and slave cylinders, and welding the housing of the clutch pedal due to (stress fractures) resolved the issue for about 11 months/15,000 miles, when the issue began again. after a few more months the entire clutch system; clutch plate (not worn out), clutch cover, flywheel assembly, master and slave cylinder, pedal assembly and rubber hydraulic line were replaced. the system was thoroughly flushed and bled for trapped air. issue was resolved until a few weeks ago (6 months after replacing the system) when the problem resurfaced. bleeding of the system was again performed with no change: pedal will fall to the floor and stay there if held for 1-2 seconds. if the pedal is depressed about 1-2 inches and help for a few seconds, it will begin to pull itself to the floor with no assistance from the driver at all. i am planning to replace the entire hydraulic system once again. *tr

Clutch pedal loses pressures and stays down. *tr

2005 nissan altima se-r man transmission. the clutch pedal sticks to the floor. this has happened twice in a one year period. i had the clutch replaced once and the slave cylinder once. the pedal is starting to stick again. it happens when your driving. i drove to a movie, went to leave and the pedal stuck to the floor. when the pedal sticks it will not come out or go into gear. i had to pull over, slam it in neutral and ended up driving home in fourth gear. i have been on several nissan forum sites and there are a lot of se-r owners having the same issue. *tr

The clutch in my 2005 nissan altima sticks to the floor; no pressure what so ever. this has happened at least 3 times before. this time it happened on a bridge in a one way stand alone lane. it had lost more than 50 percent of its pressure. good thing i was wearing sandals. was able to lift the clutch with my toes and make it off the bridge. once i got off, the clutch was not responsive what so ever. i pulled over and parked with the car off for 20 mins. clutch started to work again'a miracle. last time, it took over 5 hours for the clutch to start working again. if i was in traffic or had to make an a brunt stop, braking without the clutch would have been disastrous. *tr

Clutch pedal loses pressure and car cannot be put into gear. happens while car is in motion. *tr

After driving in stop and go traffic on a very hot day, the clutch pedal lost pressure and was very difficult to use and shift gears. the pedal lost all but the last amount of pressure. this has happened multiple times since the first incident. always occurs in warm, humid weather and heavy usage. could be very dangerous if all pressure is lost and shifting is impossible. this must be corrected! *tr

Before i replaced my 2005 nissan altima 3.5 se's engine, transmission, injectors, mass airflow sensor, throttle body, and clutch, i was having issues with the clutch losing pressure. after taking the car to nissan i was told i needed a new clutch. i had it replaced along with everything else shortly after with other major engine repairs due to a blown motor at 100,000 miles. now my car is back in the shop and after two months with the same issue among other electrical problems. i lost pressure again yesterday and dropped my car off this morning. they want $370.00 to replace the clutch slave cylinder. after reading all of the complaints, i feel that they are dead on track with this being a safety issue. this isn't the first time its happened to me either. why hasn't this issue been resolved by nissan, obviously this is a trend. do i have to get in an accident with my kids in the car before something is done about this? maybe it will be your family we crash into?!! california lemon law needs to change because apparently very little is being done with recalling defective automotive parts. 3 time iraq war veteran! -usmc *tr
