The passenger airbag warning light indicating the passenger side airbag is disabled even if passenger is seated. our mechanic tells us the on-board computer system no longer recognizes the passenger front airbag sensor. consequentially, the airbags are being disabled on both passenger and driver side of the car.

All models from 2005 onward have been recalled, yet earlier models have the same problems with non functioning airbags. the airbag warning light is on continually, and there are known problems with wiring, pressure mats and connectors in these vehicles. bmw is intentionally ignoring these issue. my own personal vehicle has this problem and as a government mandated safety device i believe that earlier models of mini coopers should be included in the recall!
At 40k miles on a 2009 mini cooper s (r56); srs airbag and seatbelt warning lights appear on lcd screen / speedometer, tachometer and roof; lcd warning reads "fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter..." warning lights illuminate at startup and remain permanently on while at idle and during drive, as well as all other functions and conditions until shut off. technician scanned and retrieved fault code 93c3 ("seat occupancy detector, passenger") and estimated a cost of $1,950 to replace entire seat cushion, by a special order from the factory, which has the occupancy detector built into the lining. the component was not replaced. upon investigation online, there exist thousands of other complaints to the nhtsa for the exact same issue for this chasis model; it is evident that this is a fualty safety component that needs to be recalled by the manufacturer. i urge the nhtsa to press even harder on this matter before any serious injuries or deaths occur as a result of either negligence on the manufacturer's behalf, or for a lack of response by the nhtsa, or worse: both. this is a major safety risk, it is a serious liability concern, ...
When adjusting the driver and passenger seats, the airbag light illuminated. after researching online, i conducted troubleshooting. i verified that the wiring harnesses and connectors for the airbag sensors under both seats had come loose, and certain wires de-pinned. the car was running, and parked when this occurred.
Passenger side airbag sensor. light does not go off. dealer advises this is a known problem and they extended warranty on it for 10 yrs but did not recall even though they know it's a defect. we purchased our 2009 mini in oct 2008 so not covered by their extension. shouldn't it be since they acknowledge problem?
Airbag and seatbelt warning lights come on for passenger seat and will not turn off. it indicates that the passenger airbag will not activate in the event of an accident with an occupant in the passenger seat. front passenger will not have airbag protection in the event of a crash.
2005 mini cooper s was traveling 50mph when it hit icy bridge spun around and rolled 3 times driver was wearing a seatbelt and passenger was not and got ejected and died.no airbags deployed. hwy 299.*dt *js
The passenger seat occupancy mat was replaced by recall on 10/28/2016. on 10/2018 i noticed that when there is a passenger in the seat with their seat belt on the air bag was off, in 1 weeks time the passenger side seat belt light was on all the time and the air bag is off all the time with or without someone occuping the seat. reguardless if the car is idiling or going down the rode. at least before the recalled mat sensor was replaced the seat mat sensor worked most of the time. now it does not work at all. i took it to the dealership and they tested the oc3 mat (passenger side mat sensor) and said there are multiple codes for the oc3 mat and they found internal faults and it requires replacement again. they said this recall is no longer under warrenty and i need to pay over 1500.00 to have it replaced. it is unsafe for me to have a passenger in my car if we got into an accident their airbag would not be on, there for they would have no airbags to deploy to try and protect them. ...
