A/c compressor locks. no power steering, overheats and dies suddenly. *tr

My 2007 mazda cx7 a/c compressor froze up at 37500 miles. the engine started to smoke wile driving the vehicle causing me to suddenly stop and evacuate the vehicle. i thought the vehicle was on fire. mazda is well aware of this issue. at first they attempted to charge me 1000 for the repair. after repeated discussions with the dealer and mazda usa the vehicle was fixed at no charge. this issue is very serious and there needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2007 mazda cx7. while driving approximately 60 mph smoke engulfed the front-end of the vehicle. the driver pulled over to the side of the road. roadside assistance was called to the scene. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection, and the air compressor was replaced. the vehicle stalled two days after the service repair. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. the failure was related to the turbo engine which was a result of the prior air compressor malfunction. currently, the dealer was inspecting the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were 72,000. the vehicle identification number was unavailable. updated 02/26/10 *bf updated 04/29/10

Ac blowing warm air and loud noise from under the hood, sounded like i was driving a diesel. took car to shop to determine what was causing the noise. ac compressor going out car only has 41,600 miles on it. ac compressor has to be replaced or risk more damage to motor. warranty expired at 36,000 miles. company first told me i had the extended warranty then later called and stated i did not have extended warranty and job would cost $1,100.00. told them i would come and get car not able to pay $1,100.00 for repair. called me back later and stated that they would cover 60% if i would pay 40%. *tr

2007 mazda 2007 air conditioning system serviced at 53,603 miles no defect noted despite our complaint of poor performance. dealer said it was a dirty cabin filter. 53,951 miles sudden catastrophic failure of air conditioning compressor and clutch. heavy smoke and burning odor from engine compartment wife and kids evacuated what they thought was a burning car on a busy street. compressor/clutch locked up belts loss of engine accessories and engine cooling. turns out this is a known issue which mazda refuses to acknowledge. *tr

We own a 2007 mazda cx7. we took a vacation to florida from ohio. on the way back, we began to smell burning rubber. i stopped to check it out, but everything looked to be in order and nothing was leaking. we then lost air conditioning and the smell became more prevalent. minutes later, there was a loud bang from under the hood. the car basically began shutting down. all check engine lights came on. smoke from under the hook. no power steering. this happened at 1am in the hills of west virginia, and we were lucky to coast into a motel. this left us stranded at the motel, and upon opening my hood - there was coolant all over the engine bay and there were shreds of rubber from the belts that had snapped off. the shredded belts were still sitting inside the engine bay, and everything was still smoking. the cap had popped off of the radiator, which is why there was a coolant mess everywhere. we had to get the car towed to the closest mazda dealership (1 hour away). we were then left without our vehicle for a month while they were trying to retrieve parts. it was during this time that i found out this isn't an isolated incident, and i feel mazda needs to address this asap. i was driving with my wife, toddler, and infant - and this put us in a very frustrating situation. i was glad i was driving and not my wife, as it could have put her stranded somewhere. this is inexcusable that a car, with only 30,000 miles on it, would have this much damage. they need to address these faulty compressors. *tr

The ac compressor locked up and caused a list of damage including needing a new motor. started smoking outside and inside the car and then making a horrible noise. replaced ac pump, belts, crank pulley, belt tensioner, idler pulley and because the timing belt also broke this caused the damage to the engine. after doing research, this seems to be the trend for a 2007 mazda cx7. *tr

Air conditioner stopped blowing cool air. was on a three hour trip and stopped at a 4 way. the mazda cx-7 engine died and would not start. i had to be pushed to the side of a busy intersection. the dealership said it was the a/c compressor. the compressor went out and caused the belt to slip, not allowing the alternator to do its job. *tr

I recently had air compressor got acgo out on mazda cx7 just out of warranty. allegedly, mazda is aware of problem with design and doing nothing. *tr

I was stranded an hour away from home b/c my mazda cx-7 wouldn't start. i had to have it towed back to the dealership an hour away. the problem was that the ac compressor broke and that cause the drive belt to break which in turn caused a motor mount to blow out and all that drained my battery such that i had to replace it as well. this happened less than a week ago and i'm already hearing of others who have also had problems with their ac in the same type car. *tr

1. no events involved. 2. failure: premature air conditioning compressor failure. failure causes overheating of component with smoking from under hood along with strange noises. 3. compressor unit had to be replaced by a dealership at a cost of over $1,000.00. *tr

I was driving home on thursday, 3 sep 2009 when i heard this horrid sound coming from under the hood of my car. i noticed smoke coming from under the hood and, fortunately, i was close to my driveway so i was able to park and turn the car off. at first, i couldn't figure out the exact location of where the smoke was coming from but the smell of burning rubber forced me to leave it alone and let it sit over night. the next morning, when i started the car, i noticed that there was a really hot part on my car ... i'm not mechanically inclined but, i knew that the metal part turning a bright shade of orange is not a good thing. i have a mechanic for a neighbor and i asked him to look at my car. he immediately asked me if my a/c was on (it was on 1). once i turned it off, the sound and smoke went away but he told me that the a/c compressor is shot. being that my car is only 2 years and has only 29797 miles on it, i called mazda (usa) to see if i could take my car to the mazda dealership here in landstuhl, germany and have it fixed - as it is still under warranty. simple answer- no. i have read numerous stories on the internet about other 2007 cx-7 owners having the same problem (and how the 2008 cx-7's a/c compressor was updated, thus does not have the same issue), so mazda is aware of the problem, they've just chosen to remain mum about it. now i am in a quandry as to how to go about repairing this car. i am in a dilemma of having to repair the car but at what expense? if i do it myself, any chance of having mazda stand by the part is thrown into question when i do return back to the u.s. in 2011. *tr

2007 grand touring mazda cx-7 had bad a/c compressor as typical with model at 30k miles and was putting out black when car returned in a "fixed" condition. they sited that we had "dirty oil". timing chain went taking engine at 42k miles and we were first denied warranty work due to sludge engine with mazda stating it was our lack of maintenance. after filing for bbb arbitration the agreed to replace engine and turbo if we paid the $900 labor bill. car came back after a month with a rattle and putting out white smoke. rattle i was told on phone at first was not repeatable then when addressed face to face was a loose engine bracket but went on paperwork as stabilizer bars front and rear. engine with 2400 miles on it is still putting out white smoke and acting sluggish and transmission shifts hard and likes gears 2 and 4 for the most part. first was told they could not see smoke then when addressed face to face was told cause it was cold outside then second excuse was condensation.. was told by mechanic friend he thinks turbo is going bad after a whopping 2400 miles. spouse wont let me operate car any longer in fear it will break down causing accident. as far as their service bulletin states that they don't have the turbo valve fix yet.. how am i to think i received a "fixed" car if i got a rebuilt engine a new but same brand etc turbo... not safe and sad to think someone will have to die before this is addressed. *tr

The air conditioner compressor on my 2007 mazda cx-7 with approximately 45,000 miles quit working and the air conditioner started blowing hot air. the faulty compressor caused the engine to seize, start smoking profusely and started an internal fire that severely damaged the engine and nearly caused an accident on a busy highway. *tr

I have been driving a 2007 mazda cx-7 for two years now, at 48,000 miles, my ac compressor locked up. the air started blowing warm then started seeing smoke from under the hood. i had to pull the car over to the side of the road and smelled burning plastic. took the car to the dealer and they told me the air conditioner compressor gave out and would cost 1200 to fix. i read online posts and this seems to be a widespread problem and clearly mazda is selling a defective product. the smoke is a environmental hazard and dangerous if it leads to fire. *tr

We have a 2007 mazda cx-7. we were driving home from camping and started to smell this horrible burning rubber smell coming from the truck. after a few mins i started seeing smoke coming from the right side of the hood. at that time our friends called us. we had them following from camping. they said they seen alot of smoke and smelled something bad. we got off at federal way and pulled into a shell station to look and get gas. my husband lifts the hood and there is a small fire and lots more smoke coming from the a/c compressor. he then notices that the serpentine belt is almost melted threw. so we pull into a parking spot and out of the way when we heard a loud noise and snap. the belt came off. so we had to call mazda roadside service and get it towed to the auburn dealership. it was sunday night so we had to wait until monday morning to call. we had our 3 year old son with us. we thought we were buying a safe car and wouldn't have to deal with something like a small fire with 2007 safest vehicle of the year. now it turns out our warranty ended 2,000 miles ago we have 38,000 and there is nothing they will do to help, other than say its 1500 to fix your car. we are a single family income and that's alot of money to come up with. i have found out there are a hundred or so people this has happened to. why is there no recall already? it obviously causes small fires and is not safe for children. please consider recalling the a/c compressors, clutch packs, and serpentine belts. mazda must know there is a problem. they have a deal for the parts. "genuine mazda cx-7 air conditioner compressor with clutch and belt new lower price $484.85", but i was still quoted $1,500. *tr

While driving 07 mazda cx7 noticed extreme smoke from engine. parked and towed to dealer. informed of ac compressor failure. mazda manufacture offered to split cost of repair. *tr

I was driving down the road when all of a sudden i could smell smoke and my ac just stopped. i took my 2007 mazda cx-7 into 3 shops. one was the mazda dealer where i bought the car. all 3 places told me that my ac compressor clutch had gone out. the part and labor is costing me $750 to fix. i have been reading on several online forums that this is a common problem and often leads to the s-belt breaking and the entire car just stopping while driving. i even had one of the mechanics tell me that it could happen to me at any time. *tr

Ac compressor has locked up. further damage unknown at this point. *tr

At 45,000 miles my 2007 mazda cx-7 began blowing thick white smoke out from the exhaust and from under the hood. took the car to dealer who said the turbo went out and was leaking oil into the exhaust system. they replaced the turbo and covered the part and charged me the $600 in labor to install it. car is now at 57,000 miles and is showing the same symptoms when rpms go over 4000. *tr

I have a 2007 mazda cx7, it's only two years old and i just spent $900.00 for a new compressor for the a/c. *tr

Air compressor blew off with broke in pulley and belt. *tr

Driving a 2007 mazda cx-7 with 36, 671 miles on it when the air conditioner stopped working. when i looked under the hood and turned the air on, there were sparks and smoke. according to my research this problem is common in this model and mazda has not recalled this part. part specifically is the air compressor, it locks up, stops the engine, and tears up the serpentine belt. since i am over the warranty by 600 miles this will cost me upwards of 2,000. *tr

I bought my 2007 mazda cx-7 less than two years ago, with only 17,000 miles on it because it was a dealer demo for less than a year. over the weekend (saturday, july11, 2009) my air conditioning began blowing out hot air. the next day, my engine sounded as if it were sputtering, and my car began smoking and smelling like burnt rubber. this morning, 7/13/09, i immediately took my car to my local mazda dealership, and they told me my air compressor needed replacing for more than $800, and my car is not drivable. on top of that, the air compressor will take up to 3 weeks to order, and mazda will not reimburse me for a rental car or provide a comparable dealer car to drive because my 25,000 mile warranty has expired. my real concern is not the money, although it's a huge repair bill for a brand new car, but it's safety. if i'd driven my car a few more miles, i'm afraid my engine would have caught fire. --nicole ferguson, winston-salem, nc. *tr

I own a 2007 mazda cx7 with only 41k miles on it. it started blowing hot air, a/c would not work and it was making awful noise. i did some investigating online and discovered numerous complaints about the 2007 model having the exact same issue. luckily i read how people have experienced their car breaking down and inoperable when the same issue happened to them, so i took the car straight to the dealer. it is the ac compressor and will need to be replaced in order to even drive car ($1400 repair). this is a safety issue because no one would think their car was undrivable because the a/c isn't working. when the compressor goes out, it is shortly followed by smoke, bad smell and car breakdown. on the highway this is extremely dangerous. this is obviously a part defect and mazda is fully aware of the problem, yet they are doing nothing about it. an ac compressor is not supposed to last only 20k-50k miles on a car, that is ridiculous and consumers of the 2007 mazda cx-7 should not be burdened with bearing the replacement cost because we have a defective part in our car, nor should we have to be subjected to the safety hazard this defect can cause by complete breakdown of the car. *tr

Car recently purchased december 2008 and inspected one month ago but is over warranty. the compressor goes out for no reason per the dealer and he advised that he see this problem in the cx7s all of the time. i have also visited other car blog sites and people reporting the exact same problem with the compressor. i called mazda and they gave me a file #124465 but advise they are simply unable to reach the rep in my area. *tr

At 45k and on vacation 500mi from home, a/c started blowing hot air and burning odor, friction noise, and smoke from serpentine belt area. took the car to local mazda dealer, told that the a/c compressor had seized up and the part is not available for over 1 week (nationally!) and that compressor failure might have caused other problems that need to be fixed. have to get a rental car and come back in 2+ weeks to pick the car back. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. while driving 80 mph, the contact noticed that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. immediately following, the air conditioner compressor locked up and stopped the engine, which caused the serpentine belt to shred and the battery cable to melt. through online research, the contact discovered that this was a common issue with her year, make, and model vehicle. the manufacturer offered to pay for 75% of the repair costs. the contact feels that this is a serious safety issue because a crash could have occurred. the current and failure mileages were 44,000.

My wife's 2007 cx7 a/c comp froze up and seized the motor on a busy highway which could have caused harm to my child and other by standards this seems to be a bi problem with mazda and they should fix the problem. *tr

A/c condenser for air condition just went on friday morning went next day saturday to mazda dealer they had no inventory no back order date but wanted me to give them $800. to hold and item with no acknowledge to when it will come in they said since it went out yesterday morning i haven't really heard anything bad and you should be able to drive for about 2 weeks, lifted there about 30 min heading to make some errands with my 2 boys, front hood starting smoking very which smoke and smelt burning pulled over waited i called them they said oh, this means that you engine belt broke and your engine is frozen. $1400. to repair 2007 cx07 (nothing but issues). *tr

Mazda cx7 2007- 21,000 mile . air conditioner seized there by shredding serpentine belt , loss of power steering, alternator. repaired under warranty. then 1 week later after about 900 miles the pulley off crankcase (harmonic balance) actually fell off ( found inside wheel well fender). serpentine belt now not spinning , loss of power steering again and engine over heating again. second repair in progress now(06-22-09). *tr

Air conditioner stopped working and engine compartment filled with smoke. the car was taken to the dealer the next day the dealer reported that the airconditioner had failed and that the clutch on the ac although functioning was not turning and that the belt was burning. *tr

Vehicle began to smoke from under the hood. pulled to shoulder of expressway and shut engine off. looked under hood, then tried to restart. engine would not crank. had vehicle towed to dealership. found a/c compressor seized and starter damaged from attempting to restart engine. dealer replaced starter, a/c compressor, exp tank, belt and freon. vehicle is a one owner with 43,203 miles. dealer did split cost $1879.92/$939.96. when searching on line, found many customers of same vehicle w/same problem seems mazda knows of problem and has changed design of compressor, but will not recall this item, even though vehicle can loose power steering. *tr

Faulty a/c compressor and clutch on all 2007-2008 cx-7. all cx-7's with the faulty a/c compressor and clutch will fail. it costs -$1,200 -$1,400 to fix (if not under warranty). mazda acknowledges the failure, but does not cover cost of new "redesigned unit" because of economics (and no safety issue). *tr

While normal driving, the 2007 mazda cx-7 stopped running. it was towed to the local mazda dealership (san antonio, tx). upon further investigation, the consumer was informed that a new engine was required due to excessive sludge build-up in the engine. additionally, the consumer was told that this repair would not be covered by the warranty due to lack of required maintenance resulting in sludge build-up. the vehicle was maintained in accordance with the owners manual, but the consumer was told approx. $7000.00 for an engine replacement. *tr

My ac compressor froze at 45000 miles while driving on the highway. i was told by the dealership that this is not a common occurrence. that was obviously a lie. cost for repairs- $1600. *tr

Engine rattling due to stretched timing chain nhtsa# 10039251. *tr

A/c compressor locked up on cx7 mazda car has only 54,000 miles dealer said need new engine still under warranty on this part. *tr

Ac compressor failed after 23 months of ownership, 40,000 miles to be exact. dealer tells me that mazda completely overhauled the design of the air conditioning of the following years model. the compressor was completely different. this is a red flag and proves that their design on the 07 model was flawed... ac compressor bearing locked up suddenly even though system was turned off, then belt snapped, then vehicle shut off and came to a stop in the middle of a busy road, this creates a major safety issue. if happened on a freeway it could have caused a major accident. based on internet discussion forums this appears to be a regular occurrence on this vehicle. *tr

At 41,000 miles, my air compressor failed. it started by running the ac and then the compressor locked up. the belt got ruined because of the friction and now i'm having to replace it all. i just recently browsed the internet and found that i'm not the only one with this problem. it seems to be a trend with this vehicle. i can save the old compressor if need be. *tr

A/c compressor has failed with 60k miles on vehicle. *tr

In march, my 2007 mazda cx-7 had an air compressor failure. i was coming off an exit ramp of a major highway when i noticed that my air conditioner was blowing hot air. i turned it off, then smelled burning rubber. immediately after, white smoke started pouring out from underneath my hood. while i was able to make it home, i was unable to drive the car any further. i took the car to my local dealer, and my car, like so many others, was out of warranty at a little over 50,000 miles. the dealer told me that the problem was my air compressor. i did research on the internet and found many other people experiencing the same issue. my dealership told me that this was a recurring problem with the 2007 cx-7, but that no recall had been issued. i was unable to get a loaner vehicle from my dealership and had to pay for a rental car. the cost of my repair was $1480, along with the car rental. i love my cx-7, but i will not buy another mazda after this vehicle. i feel very strongly that this is a major safety issue and needs to be investigated and corrected by mazda. i intend to let as many people as possible know about this problem.. i tried to contact mazda to no avail. it took my dealership a week to get the replacement parts for the new air compressor. *tr

I have a mazda cx-7 with 55000 miles my ac compressor froze and fried my starter, and belt after read numerous posts on the same issue i have come to conclude this is a recurring issue with this car. a recalled should be instated this is easily a $2000.00 repair job. *tr

Ac compressor went out on my mazda cx7 after only 19k. while i was driving on the interstate, the compressor locked and the a/c belt popped cutting wires and causing smoke and the smell of an electrical fire. i was lucky enough to be able to get off the road before the smoke turned into a fire. after getting on the internet, i found out this is a popular problem with cx7s along with shotty tires that has to be replace between 10k to 18k miles. *tr

Air conditioner compressor failure on many mazda cx7 cars. *tr

While on a trip, our a/c stopped working on our 2007 mazda cx-7. this car was 1 year and 1 month old we went to the nearest mazda dealership. parts were not available, and the service tech told us that we could continue to drive the car without a/c. 200 miles later, the engine started making sounds and the car stalled in the middle of a busy road. we were able to get the car restarted and attempted to get the car off the road, and couldn't find any place to pull over, and then black smoke engulfed the car. the car "died" in the middle of a busy street with no shoulder. we believed at the time that our car had caught on fire. the car continued to emit a large amount of black smoke, we ran from the car called 911. we did not open the hood of the car thinking that there was probably a fire under the hood. by the time the police dept arrived, the smoking stopped. our car was disabled on the middle of a busy street (with no shoulder). we were very lucky that our car didn't cause any serious accidents to other vehicles while it was disabled in the middle of the road. we were left stranded with an inoperable "burnt" car 800 miles from home. our mazda roadside assistance was absolutely worthless. it turned out that the a/c "seized" up and caused the serpentine belt to "disintegrate". the car was left at mazda for 2 weeks, and the part still had not come in and was on back order. the belt was replaced and an a/c unit taken from another cx-7 so we could get our car home. how can an a/c compressor be on back order on a 1 year old model, unless this has been happening on other mazdas? i believe that this is definitely a safety issue! *tr

Smoke started to come from the engine compartment and smelled like burnt rubber. there was no leak and all the belts looked ok. lost power steering and engine died. did not turn on and had to have it towed to the dealer. the dealer explained that this was caused by the a/c compressor and wanted to charge around $1900 (with taxes and everything). since i had an extended warranty that took care of most except $180. i would not file a complaint, except that the only other friend that has a cx-7 had the exact same problem and now looking at the internet it seems to be a widespread problem that needs to be fixed. it may be too late for me, but they should do a recall so other people could be potentially saved from harm. *tr

My daughter has a mazda 2007 cx-7 and i have a 2008 cx-7. the air conditioning in these cars, as witnessed by hundreds of complaints on line, is appalling. she had a pinhole in one of the hoses and it took 6 days to repair...for a hose?? additionally, her car has been back to the dealership 3 times for white smoke billowing out of the tailpipes...they have "no idea" what is causing it. *tr

Timing valve replaced at 34,951 miles, then engine replaced at 41,060 miles on july 24, 2008. *tr

The ac on my 2007 mazda cx-7 stopped working while driving on freeway about 14 months after i bought it. i had an appointment within a couple days to bring it in for an oil change so i didn't do anything immediately. the next day, while driving locally i saw smoke coming from the rear of the car and then the power steering stopped working. i forced the car over to the side and got it towed to the nearest mazda dealer. after 2 weeks without the car, they finally fixed it saying that the belt tensioner had "frozen up" and the belt had melted onto the ac compressor and power steering drive wheel. they had to replace both pulleys and the belt with parts shipped in directly from japan. the car should not have had this major of a problem within 25k miles and less than a year and a half of driving, and i'm wondering what other damage it may have caused that will crop up in the future. *tr
