Problems with 2007 Mazda CX-7 ENGINE

On average, the 2007 Mazda CX-7 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 95 596 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Mazda CX-7

The motor started running hot and losing power and i shut it off. the vehicle was towed to a garage and was scanned on computer and only showed code for steering wheel angle. the mechanic pulled the coils and plugs and checked for spark and installed new plugs and all coils operated normally. compression was checked and was low in all cylinders around 70-80 psi. plugs and coils were reinstalled and intercooler put back on. car is in a no start condition, car was taken to closest mazda dealer and they said they would not fix problem since someone had been in the motor. the mechanic called their service department and told them exactly what had been done and they said they would not make it right. the car has 115000 miles and has numerous recalls for the vvt timing chain, turbo, engine, and they have tsb's for these issues and still play dumb. i want my motor fixed by mazda at mazda's expense since there are so many complaints and issues with these vehicles and mazda knows about it and still doesn't want to make things right.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. while driving various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. north frontier auto (205 8th ave se, pine city, mn) was called and diagnosed that an unknown sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired and the vehicle could not be started. the contact was able to get the battery jumpstarted and drove to north frontier auto where the codes were cleared. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated again. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and solenoid were defective and needed to be replaced. the solenoid failure was repaired, but the timing chain failure was not. the vehicle was returned to the dealer where they stated that they repaired the timing chain. after the vehicle was repaired, the contact stated that the axle, ball joint, and control arm were detached. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failures were confirmed and the timing chain was confirmed to be incorrectly installed by the dealer. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

I am having issues with my engine light on and my car having problems with a loud noise coming from the engine as well as sometimes shaking while stop in a light for a while.

I took my 2007 mazda cx7 for service and two safety recalls, last year. the replaced the lower control arms at the front end. they also did the safety recall 9516e=passenger air bag replacement. after a while the air bag dash red light comes on and stays on for a while. my cx7 has 97,500 miles and now my engine sounds like is a diesel engine when i am at a stop traffic light. it seems like the timing chain is stretching. they have not added this variable valve timing defect as a safety recall, after all this is a ford engine and i was expecting this mazda to last up to the 200,000 miles.

On the 4th of july my family and i were driving to westchester from manhattan. we had a full tank of gas, recent oil change and new car battery. the car is always maintained and it has never given us any trouble. during our drive we noticed something was wrong. the the car started to feel hot, but we weren't too sure if it's just hot out or if there was something wrong, because the ac was on. we pulled over and turned the car off. we checked the coolant and saw that we had oil. we opened the trunk, felt around to see if it was hot and to see if we smell anything. it seemed fine. as soon as we drove off, not 2 minutes in, when driver said the gas petal felt weird, it dropped from 50 to 30 to 20mph and we heard a light drilling noise. as soon as we stepped out of the car, it was in flames. our family could have died. https://www.facebook.com/valhallafd/posts/1548408978544577

Mazda's l-series engines are earning a reputation for variable vale timing (vvt) defects that can cause oil leaks, excessive smoke out of the tailpipe, loose timing chains, and catastrophic engine failure. mazda has acknowledged the vvt problems in a 'special service program' but, according to owners, has denied warranty coverage in some cases. because my vehicle is beyond the extended period mazda does not feel they have any responsibility to compensate for this repair. it has been reported that this could cause the engine to stop while on the highway creating a dangerous or deadly condition.

Bought my mazda cx-7 2007 brand new. ac broke, arm joint has be change, both roller changed more then two times. engine is making noise. dealer told us that it's the timing chain which is the engine now. i called mazda for an engine and it's about $6,291 for just the engine not even included the labor. had a very bad explerience with mazda.

At hwy speed, in motion, on state hwy, engine light came on, heard a pop and then vehicle died

When starting the vehicle there is a loud sound coming from the engine for 2-3 seconds . it doesn't happen all the time, but it sounds like a card going through bicycle spokes and is accompanied by a high rev sound . this sound also happens when driving directly after the vehicle automatically shifts into a new gear, and is accompanied by a loss of power until the rev sound and card in spokes sound. mazda corporation has been notified of all reports i have made, and i didn't know of this site to report until recently. i have reported addition defect s to mazda corp as well but do not have the details at this time. that is the reason for submitting them all at this time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. while driving 35 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the vehicle. the vehicle became engulfed in flames without warning. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the contact pulled over to the side of the road. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the turbocharger engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,600.

Shortly after purchasing vehicle replaced timing, turbo, exaust, ball joints, tie rod ends & much more. timing was first, then driving and turbo went out. 2 days ago car sitting in driveway, not running, started smoking from under hood, butst into flames and burnt up. mazda said no recalls, clearly not true according to website. almost burnt my house also as it was sitting in driveway and couldnt be moved. if we would have been inside the car, i doubt we would of had time to get pulled over & out as thats how quick it burnt!

I took the car in the have the ac compressor replaced a couple weeks ago. june 9 i lost all cold air and done acceleration. i thought the two were related but we're not. my car would sometimes drive as normal and other times unexpectedly slow down to 25 mph in a 60 mph zone and i couldn't speed up. i took it back to the mechanic. he said the turbo was going out. then the catalytic converter. then the gasket. it's had multiple oil leaks. this car is costing me more than its worth.

I just buy but the engine make a noise like diesel, mechanic say is the timming chain and components and vvt valvle

Hi, we bought mazda cx-7 grand touring [vin# last 8 digits: [xxx] used car during oct 2014 in fremont. the car had around 84k miles. we spent around $13k thinking good fit for kids school drop in short distance. hardly used < 9k miles in 2 years. timely service has been done. however, recently seeing check engine light on with code p0303 [engine-3] missfires. replaced spark plugs, perform fluid system cleaning, replace throttle body spending close to $1500+. check engine still stays on even after this'. now fremont mazda dealer recommending to replace the engine [which costs around $9k]. later did some study on web and learnt that mazda cx-7 is very well known for this issues and that is the reason mazda has discontinued the cx-7 model knowing internal turbo related issues. customers buy cars based on search and reliability considering long term usage [like other cars which runs more than 150k miles] and not expected this. it's pain to see not hardly used 10k+ miles even after spending $15k. mazda should accept their engine design issue and do some credit to lost costumer. to keep this customer [me] with mazda, mazda should refund the total customer expenses and allow him to by new mazda latest version by paying difference amount. have attached recent documents from fremont-mazda dealer for your review and support. highly appreciate your understanding and helping the customer. home address: [xxx] cell: [xxx] email: [xxx] car details: mazda cx-7 grand touring. vin# last 8 digits: [xxx] apprx miles: 96k+ regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My daughter with her newborn infant had the vechile stall on them in heavy traffic. the car has 60,000.00 miles and is meticulous maintained. we brought to the dealership and was told it needs a new engine at a cost 9,000.00. i opened a case with mazda corporate case #1-290023-832 and was told that it is an 9 year vechile and they can only offer an employee discount on a new car or 1,5000. this is a safety issue and a manufacturer defective. my daughter and her child could have been injured. please assist.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. while the vehicle was parked, a hose failed and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 145,000.

I purchased a 2007 mazda cx-7, 3 years ago. i have taken pristine care of my vehicle as i have always. i am a fan of mazda and have owned others in my lifetime. however, i am extremely disappointed in mazda cx-7. i have always put premium gas in my vehicle, regular oil changes, and had my vehicle serviced at a mazda dealership to make sure it was taken care of properly. nonetheless, last week i had my car towed to the dealership. why? because of the consistent problems i seem to find online. my turbo needs to be replaced among other things that coincide with this issue. i have done my research and see that mazda only points fingers back to the consumer. but i am going to point my finger at the poor design. must be why mazda no longer make these vehicles. i believe this is mazda's issue not mine. the car cannot be totaled out by my insurance company because it is 'a mechanical breakdown'. i still owe on the vehicle and the cost to repair is well over the blue book value of the car. there should be a recall on these vehicles. mazda just keeps pointing the fingers back at us, even if the car was taken care of?!?! if this is a common issue for mazda cx-7 and mazda cx 9 to have turbocharger and engine problems, i do not see why the repairs are put back on us.

In the last 2 months i've had issues with the airbag system light illuminating on the dash and also the passenger occupancy light not illuminating at all. i then have a check engine light on and had it diagnosed and it is the thermostat that is not working properly. the tech at the auto shop said that this is extremely common with mazda cx-7. if that is the case, why has it not been recalled? i have read through hundreds of articles online stating the same issues with the airbag system and the thermostat.

I have a 2007 mazda cx7 i've seen alot of recalls but one complaint i am constantly seeing is the turbo failure and leaking an indecent amount of oil causing an environmental hazard. i am in a situation now where my turbo is leaking alot of oil and alot of cx7 owner are getting good their turbos replaced more than three times. i very looked into tears problem and apparently mazda has came up with a solution that has rerouted the air pressure to the turbo by supplying a ventilation kit that costs $2,226 just for parts that's including the turbo and $826 for labor..i feel that if they have identified the problem they should tell consumers about it if your driving on the freeway and all of a sudden the car looses power it could cause an accident...and i have also read that the turbo is a very poor design. *tr

Timing chain caused bent valves and head needed to be fixed. stupid designed engine. mazda won't recall hundreds of cars affected by this. never buying a mazda again.

December 2015 i had my car towed to a mazda dealership (aaa service said to do so because of the noise and fear the vvt would break while in motion) to replace the vvt (timing chain) and valve cover gaskets - paying out of pocket. as of today, 2/12/16, the same noise, but louder, still occurs when i start the car and drive. the air bag light is on and was on when i took it in. no mention of was made. also, when i received my receipt, they had the mileage wrong by 20,000 miles (potentially affecting carfax reports) , and indicated on the sheet that other areas such as lights were fine and they were not. they did mention that my turbo may need replacing soon (another consistent complaint). there was a class action suit filed in nj regarding this and it was thrown out. why isn't the government doing something about all of these similar complaints? where do i go since i just don't trust mazda dealerships?

I have a 2007 mazda cx-7, my vehicle has 71,000 miles i have noticed a riddling noise for the past few months. i visit three mechanics and all three mechanics are telling me it's the vvt timing chain. the cost the repair my vehicle is $3,000 to $4,000 dollars. i contact the mazda dealer and because i have no warranty i have to pay out of pocket. so i begin to do my research online. i realized that there are hundreds of other mazda cx-7 owners that are having the same issues as i. what a coincidence mazda has discontinued manufacturing the mazda cx-7. this is a manufacture issue and mazda needs to own up for it. hundreds of people are losing their vehicles due to this vvt timing chain issue and mazda needs to make this a re-call. i know one thing i hope and pray nothing happens to me while driving my vehicle because i will not hesitate to file a lawsuit against the mazda corp. i hope someone can help all of us who are current owners of mazda cx-7. i will continue to spread the word of this horrific issue with this vehicle model.

I have had to replacethe ac compressor pump this will be the third one. i cant afford $700.00 dollars per pump and it onlu last for 8 months. i seen all the complaint people have with this same issue. when is mazda going to step up and help us resolve this issue. i will never buy or recommend a mazda to anyone. between that and the turbo they are junk and not depedable at all.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Mazda is aware that the cx-7 is a horribly made car which can be noted with the extensive list of recalls which the company has put out since its creation. engine failure being the biggest concern to the safety of people on the road. engine failure at 70mph on a busy highway can result in death. something should be done to have mazda compensate all owners for defectice vehicles. my engine failed and mazda was of no help.

I was on my way home from work when i notice that my mazda started to slow down in speed, i turned off the a/c to see if i can hear any noise and all i heard was a low noise like a chain, i pulled over to the side of the road called my husband who's a mechanic and he said you are going to have to take it to the mazda dealership its your timing chain. as i was doing some research i have noticed that there are many complaint out there for this same issue. i still have 3 years left on this car and its not fair that mazda knows about this issue but refuses to do anything about it. its a big safety issue if your car is shutting down in major areas that can cause accidents. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. while driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,500.

On the day of april 22, 2015, while driving my car(2007 mazda cx-7) off a freeway ramp, the car began to rattle as if it was being pushed by a wind. i smelled smoke coming from the inside compartment of the cabin area of the car. i attempted to apply the brakes but the car won't stop! flames was coming from the car and that's when the car finally stop. there was a car in front of me that i thought that i was going to almost cause a major accident on the off ramp of the freeway. the mechanic checked the engine and stated that the engine locked up which caused a low compression to the engine causing the vvt belt timing to damage the valves in the engine. i changed the oil in the vehicle, and have the vehicle served on a regular basis, but never had any problems like that. i did research on this vehicle and found out that this is an ongoing problem with other owners of this vehicle across the country. there needs to be a investigation, reimbursement, retribution, and recall orders dispersed out to owners of the cx-7 model from 2007 to 2012 so that mazda can redeem their quality of service and reputation.

My cx-7 had been making some engine noise for months that my husband attributed to fuel injector noise, but when the sound got worse he researched it and made an appointment with a mazda dealership. after an evaluation of my car the serviceman told me that there had been a defect in the engines in 2007 cx-7 and there had been a recall on them and that mine was past the point of being fixed. he said that it will just quit working one day. we asked if we could have another engine put in, but he said the problem has never been fixed, so it would only be good temporarily and it would cost $5,500. we stated that we never received recall information and after he ran our vin number he said that we had never been sent any recall information. they would only give me $3,000 for my car because it is worthless now, so i intend to drive it until it dies which could be any day. *tr

I bought this car in february 2013 and two times since then i have had to replace the timing chain, thankfully my husband and i bought the extended warranty, but i have a feeling that it will do it again before i even pay my car off. just a month ago i had to take my car in because my engine light came on, so i checked my engine oil and there was none on the dip stick. called the place i just came from getting my oil changed the week before and found out that the turbo charger was malfunctioning and sucking all the oil out of the oil pan. the dealership says that it common for that make and model... my warranty covered the work but barely. i now have 4,000 miles left on my warranty.... what else could go wrong! i will never buy another mazda period!

After having vehicle at royal palm mazda for service and complaint of engine noise on 25 oct 2014, and being told the engine noise was normal, nothing to worry about. the engine suffered a complete failure due to the timing chain and/or vvt that mazda had issued a technical service bulletin about in october of 2012. the car has been at the dealership for one (1) week with no updates from mazda on how they are going to handle the repair or if they are even going to assist with the repair. *tr

On january while driving home from a shopping trip my husband and i heard a really loud noise. in a matter of seconds my vehicle slowed down and almost caused an accident. i had it towed and calked the dealer i purchased it from after being told by a family mechanic that i should call because these was a faulty part with the cx7 vehicles. i called and didn't get any place with the dealer. kept calling until finally about three weeks later they told me i should call mazda directly and provided me with their number. i called mazda and have been dealing with them ever since. they only want to pay $500 towards the repairs. this should be a recall since is faulty parts and there are hundreds of customers complaining of the same issues. the dealership that i purchased the car from told me there is also a problem with the vehicles timing belt, sounds familiar? yes!!! turbo and timing belt!! it is time for mazda to take responsibility and not make us customers pay for faulty parts placed on a lemon of a vehicle. my email is [xxx] please help me resolve this issue. i am so disappointed and frustrated and feel that mazda is insulting my intelligence by offering to pay a miserable $500 towards a repair that they should do, since it is their faulty parts that lead to this car problems in the first place. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have an on going issue with my car 2007 mazda cx7 last year in october 2013, the turbo went out on the car and needed replacement $4000.00).i had a tug of war with the dealership. they finally took responsibility and replaced the turbo. today december 2014, i sit here in the same situation once again the turbo went out on my mazda and needs repair. this is an issue with this car part and mazda does not want to take responsibility for their malfunction part. which is not fair to the guest that they have to come out of pocket to pay for a part (turbo) that mazda does not want to take any fault for. *js

I was preparing to stop at a stop sign when my car stopped running. i had it towed to the garage who always maintains my car. they found that the timing belt had broken. i thought this was strange since my car only had 61000 miles on it, so i started researching the problem. i found that mazda had put defective parts on these engines. they had an extended warranty, but of course that had run out for me. why shouldn't a manufacturer have to stand behind the defective parts they put on an engine? this cost me $3700.00 for their half-a**ed work!!!! if this timing chain had broken while i was in heavy traffic, this could have been a disaster!! *tr

I purchased my car, a 2007 mazda cx7 used with 34,000 miles on it approximately 4 years ago. i was driving approaching a stop sign and my car just stopped running. i was able to go around the corner and get the car off the road and out of traffic. i had the car towed to the garage near my work who usually maintains my car. they said that the repairs were going to cost $3742.00. two valves need ground and numerous other parts need to be replaced. after doing some research i find that mazda has had this problem with many of the cx7 vehicles, but they are not covering the repairs. i take very good care of my car, have regular maintenance done, and do not put a lot of miles, or drive my car hard. there is no reason that this should have happen other than defective parts from mazda!!!! they should make this right. these cars are expensive and the owner should not be experiencing such major repair costs with so few miles on the car. *tr

While driving on colorado state highway 91 at approx 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly died. the engine ceased working, all systems ceased immediately. i was unable even to safely pull the car onto the shoulder, the loss of power was so complete and so sudden. the vehicle was 200 miles from my home, and 250 miles from the closest dealer at that point, so i had it towed to the closest garage that would look at it, about 60 miles away. that garage evaluated the car and stated that the timing chain had broken and a new engine would be required, at approximately $6,000 to $8,000. i phoned the closest mazda dealer, in denver, and asked what they recommended. they also stated the engine would have to be replaced, at a cost of $8,000 to $9,000. i contacted the garage closest to my home and asked their advice. they stated they had experience replacing the timing chains and repairing engine damage in other vehicles and that they could diagnose whether that was an option. their guess on cost was between $2,000 and $4,000 if the repair were possible and there was not too much damage to valves. since the shop that is 25 miles from my home recommended repair at less than 1/2 the cost of the dealer 200 miles from my home, i elected to take it there. upon research i found 1. the vin # is one in a series with known timing chain failure, and that a heavier duty one had been issued to replace; 2. the dealer had replaced the vvt previously and should have replaced the timing chain at that time according to service bulletin 01-012/12, but did not replace the timing chain; 3. the failure happened 4 days after the expiration of the engine warranty and 7,000 miles over the 7yr/70,000 mi period; 4. mazda would not honor the warranty since the repairs were done by an independent shop, not a dealer. mazda knows that this vin# is in a range of vehicles with this issue but will not fix.

Mazda cx-7, 2007 - four days and 7,000 miles out of warranty. driving on the highway, the engine suddenly quit suddenly and the car died. the vin number on the car is in the range of numbers from 2007 that have reported the same and similar defects many times from other car owners. the vvt actuator failed and was replaced by dealer penkhus mazda under warranty in 2009, but the chain was not replaced. research into mazda service bulletins sb-10044209-4285 and 01-012-12 indicate that the timing chain should have been replaced at the time since the vin number indicates the vehicle was produced prior to a mazda timing chain modification date of may 1, 2009 (vin #'s below jm3er...300119). my vehicle falls into this group. mazda issued a warranty extension to 7 years, 70,000 miles for this faulty timing chain in january 2012 but is now refusing to honor any warranty on the premature failure of the timing chain. vehicle was towed to nearest shop at the time, +/-50 mi. shop said timing chain was broken and a new engine probably needed. estimated cost $8,000. i phoned nearest dealers in denver and colorado springs to discuss with service departments. they advised if it was timing chain failure it could easily be a new engine at $8 - 10,000. my home is between 175 and 225 miles from the nearest dealer. i contacted my local shop who advised me to contact kracl automotive in glenwood springs. kracl said they would definitely look at it, determine cause of failure and attempt to repair prior to recommending total engine replacement. i had the car towed another 100 miles to glenwood springs, 22 miles from my home, and the closest capable repair shop. kracl advised me the timing chain had broken and two valves were damaged but not the cylinder head. repair estimated at +/- $4,000. repairs were completed with special order mazda parts cost of $3,851.21. *tr

I purchased my 2007 mazda cx-7 from a dealership in greensburg, pa in february of 2014, it was purchased as a used car with only 36,500 miles on it. i had no problems with the car at first, then i noticed my gas mileage was getting worse, that is when on memorial day my check engine light would come on and then go off. i took it my mechanic because i was unable to get it in to the dealership for a week at some points and the light would have be off by then. then when i was on my way home on the evening of 9/4/14 my car made a very weird sound any time i would try to push on the gas. i pulled the car off the road and there it sat until i could reach the service department on the following day. my husband took the car to the dealership and that's where it sat because he was informed that it was unsafe to drive? i went up after work only to have them tell me that they could not get the readings from the diagnostic test and that they would have to send it to an actual mazda dealership, where it has been for almost a week. i was informed yesterday that my turbo and other un-mentioned parts had broken. i then waited to hear back as to whether the warranty that i paid an additional $2,000 for at the time of purchase would cover it, it will not cover this and they stated that the turbo was not considered a part of the "powertrain" so they quoted me a price of upwards of $3300 to repair the vehicle that i have had for 7 months. i have started to do research into this vehicle and i have found out that this is actually quite a common problem with this make and model and that the manufacturer will not stand by the product fully knowing that this is a problem and the consumer is left holding quite a hefty bill. i implore you to research this and force their hand so that "[xxx]" doesn't keep getting stuck holding a huge bill for something this company just doesn't want to fix. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

After leaving a family member's out of state home early on monday august 25, 2014 morning noticed a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. approximately 5 miles later a burning smell and smoke started coming from the engine compartment along with loud squealing. pulled onto shoulder of road and shut off vehicle. i opened the hood and it was obvious something had burned up but didn't easily identify what. called aaa for a tow to nearest mazda dealer. was informed later in the day by the dealer that the ac compressor had seized up and ruined the serpentine belt as well. they didn't have the parts to fix it which resulted in having to rent a car for 5 days to return home and back to pick up vehicle on saturday. later found out there was an extended warranty on the compressor for 5 yrs/60k miles which meant that there was no coverage on my vehicle since it was 7 years old even though it had only 49k miles on it. total cost with towing, the car rental and repair was $1667. they also "found" the starter was bad and a blown fusible link for which they charged another $648. i think they caused the started and fusible link damage trying to start the vehicle with the seized up ac compressor as i never had any problem with the starter before and didn't attempt to start it after i had pulled over and turned engine off. *tr

Prior to this date, which lead up to the last incident, upon getting the first few oil changes, at a dealership where i purchased the car, the engine began to sound like a truck (oil used was not synthetic and i were scheduled to come back in 5-months). when i inquired about it, i was told, "that was the way it was supposed to sound". after that comment, i changed to another dealership for service. the knocking continued, to this day, still. over the years, the system lights would come on periodically (passenger air bag, check engine light and tire sensor) and the cooling fans would run after you turned the car off. most times, they would reset themselves. moving along, recently on 07/15/14, i was returning home for the evening and the car shut down on me. the steering control was hard but i kept it from crashing the wall on lincoln dr. as i flagged the traffic to proceed, i was able to start the car only to advance to the end of the drive. before i reached home, the car shut down 5-times. finally reaching home it sat until i were able to get it to another dealer, closer to home. how about, the engine is shot, the radiator had a leek, i knew nothing about and the dealer says, "it will not start, now". i drove it to the dealer. oil light was on and smelling as if i burned something, while it knocked. check engine light and passenger air bag light were on when it cut-off, as i pulled into their driveway. i restarted the car found a parking space. once the ignition shutdown, the cooling fans came on. dilemma, i leased the car new in 2007. i bought it, with present car payments until 2016, in 2010. the dealer requests the engine and radiator to be replaced. there is no warranty, especially after 100,000 miles and i have scrap on my hands. where does one go from here as mazda used to be reputable? the engine shouldn't have any problems before 200,000 miles. *tr

I purchased my vehicle in october 2012 with roughly 75k miles. after one week of owning the vehicle i noticed after idling for a few minutes o large plume of fog would come from my exhaust pipe. this has occurred many times now since purchase and the dealers response was that it was due to "winter fuel". the problem was never resolved. on june 26th 2014 i was driving to work. i stop at a red light and when it turned green i proceeded to press the gas. instantly my car shut off and did nothing. after investigating the issue on the side of the road i determined it to be the timing chain. my issue is that mazda having knowledge of a failing vvt on these vehicles should have replaced the part before selling this vehicle to me. now i have a lawn ornament that's costing me thousands of dollars to watch it sit in my driveway. *tr

Just bought a used 2007 mazda cx7 about 2 months ago and the car starting producing smoke out of the tailpipe. took the car in as it is still under warranty, and the dealer claims that the turbo charger is going out in the car! i asked the dealer if this is covered under the warranty and their response was that it was not. that is absurd! i wish i would have read all of the complaints about this car with people having to go through the ordeal with crappy service from the dealer before buying it! this ought to be included in a recall considering the amount of times this has happened to buyers of the cx7. i feel terrible as this was purchased for my mom to drive who is on a fixed income and cannot afford to have major repairs done on a car that was purchased only 2 months ago! me, nor any of my immediate family members have ever owned a mazda vehicle and best believe this will be the last time we do! *tr

Mazda extended the warranty on ac compressors, well, my original compressor failed and was replaced under that original warranty. exactly 30,000 miles later the replacement compressor failed almost 3 years to the date of the original failure. mazda is refusing any responsibility for this since now my car is out of warranty. eventhough the replaced part itself is only 30,000 old. this vehicle is also experiencing timing belt issues and extremely loud engine noise. this particular model year just seems to be a lemon all around. even the replacement parts are failing. and the company is not holding themselves responsible at all. i've research this particular year and found more than adequate evidence that these vehicles are lemons. the same issues are being reported across the world! and mazda is doing nothing. the hazards they are causing are tremendous! some failures have resulted in fires, quick loss of engine power at high speeds and thousands of dollars in repairs. my car was paid off less than a week before this second compressor malfunctioned. how many cars have had 2 ac compressors in a matter of 6-7 years?? and how many engines can completely fail in the matter of 7 years? everyday when i start my car it sounds like a diesel engine; popping and clanking noises project for the hood like it's a semi. that's just bad craftsmanship and bad business. mazda should be held accountable. the recalls should be extended to 100,000 and 10 years at least. these vehicles should be built to last. and a multi billion dollar company should be made to fix their mistakes before someone gets hurt or worse, killed because of their neglect. *tr

My gas light was on. i was going to get gas. the car was driving fine then i felt a pull like a chug i did not want to run out of gas. i turned around to go home a few blocks away i would rather call the automobile club to bring gas to me than get stuck on empty. the car started pulling and chugging as i started to go up a hill.i pulled to the right side of the road rolled to a stop. aaa towed me home. i had a master mechanic come out to look at it. he told me my engine was frozen rings were done and i needed a new car and it wasn't worth 5,000.00 to fix. so now i have a beautiful car not worth anything. oh yeah! i'm very upset! *tr

Would like to make a complaint about my vehicle. i was stopped at a light and heard a clicking sound as i tried to accelerate when light turned green. vehicle died at the light. vehicle was towed to a mechanic. timing chain stretched and broke which caused damage to the engine and valves. vehicle has been in the shop for more than four weeks! my approximate cost will be $3500, but price can go up since mechanic has yet to complete the work. have read many similar complaints about the timing chain and vvt with this make and model on the internet. many vehicles have broken down on the highway. even after my vehicle is repaired, i do not feel safe driving it. i will trade it in (not another mazda) as soon as it is repaired. it is unfortunate that mazda is aware of this problem but has not made effort to recall the mazda cx7. *tr

I was stopped at a traffic light with my 10 yr old in the car, and as soon as i pulled out form the traffic light we noticed smoke and people honking their car horns at us. i looked in the rear view mirror and there was a "puddle" of fire on the road that was not there when i pulled up to the stop light so i assume it leaked down from my engine. after noticing the fire i quickly pulled over (not even through the intersection yet) and instructed my son to get out of the car. i shut off the ignition of the vehicle, and exited as well to call 911. by the time the fire department arrived, the car was too far gone to be salvaged. the car was completely burned, all airbags discharged from the heat of the fire, and the front two wheels where damaged by heat and the front tires where melted. *tr

June 2014, i was driving vehicle out of town on vacation and it suddenly began running rough like the pistons were misfiring. mileage was 69,700. i pulled into a dealership (1 mile away), dropped the keys, and called to explain in the morning. later, they said they drove the car around the lot and the engine locked up. they took no responsibility for making it worse and charged me for confirming the loss of compression in the pistons. we replaced the engine at great expense and to a poor result. i found this 2007 model had a chronic problem with the variable valve timing (vvt) causing the timing chain to come out of adjustment and destroy the engine. instead of issuing a recall and fixing it, mazda offered an extended warranty to 6 years-60,000 miles. this is about the average point of failure, meaning half the people are not covered. a feature of the turbo charger is making the engine run hot, burning the oil, so people were often denied because the oil "had not been changed." interestingly, mazda said the timing chain had been replaced under warranty with a previous owner. that date and location coincided with a date of service shown on carfax for typical maintenance only. that dealership said they could not possibly do any work without it showing on carfax. i wonder who mazda paid for the warranty claim... i want nhtsa to compel mazda to compensate owners who experienced engine failure due to this documented design flaw.

Car started to make a ticking noise from the right side of the engine compartment. took it to a mechanic and was diagnosed as a timing chain related issue. will cost about $1500 in parts and labor to replace timing chain, vvt valve, and sprockets. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda cx-7. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled as all of the warning lamps illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the timing chain was fractured and causing irreversible damage to the engine. as a result, the engine and the timing chain would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 100,000.
