On this page, we explain the Mazda display message: "Mazda Battery Management Malfunction". We will discuss the symptoms, possible causes, and the costs of potential solutions.
The cause of the error message is a partially discharged, discharged, or defective start-stop vehicle battery (accumulator). All Mazda models with an i-Stop system (start-stop) can be affected by this error message.
Note: The i-Stop system from Mazda is referred to as the Start-Stop system by other vehicle manufacturers.

Despite the high probability that the cause of this error message is a discharged or defective vehicle start-stop battery, the vehicle's error memory should be read out first. Only then should the following work or test steps be undertaken:
For repairs: The checks and repairs mentioned or described in this article should always be carried out by a certified automotive contract or specialist workshop.

When testing a start-stop battery, it is no longer sufficient to only pay attention to the general state of charge "SOC" (State of Charge), but also to its state of health "SOH" (State of Health).
While the "SOC" can still be determined relatively easily by voltage measurement, a more complex test procedure is required to determine the "SOH" in order to be able to make a reliable statement about the actual battery condition.
The determination of the "SOH" takes into account, among other things, the cold start capability CCA (Cold Cranking Amps), the remaining capacity (Ah), and the charge acceptance (CA) of the battery. Note: These special checks are only possible at a specially designed battery test station.
Good to know: After a battery change, the new battery must first be relearned to the vehicle control unit in modern vehicles. This is not necessary if the previously installed battery is reused in the same vehicle.
Our advice: We strongly advise against trying to relearn a start-stop battery to the vehicle's engine control unit yourself.
Regarding costs: The repair and parts costs listed here are average values calculated by us. However, these can vary considerably depending on the manufacturer, the vehicle model, and the executing car workshop. Therefore, we recommend that you always obtain several cost estimates before a repair. This does not apply to vehicles with a possible workshop obligation or vehicles that still have a warranty or guarantee claim.
