We have classified the 92 complaints from 2014 Kia Soul about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Headlights intermittent then go out. there are multiple technical bulletins on headlights. lost left headlight because connectors were made of substandard material. the socked melted. dealer wanted $800.00 to replace the headlight. parts and time to do it myself was about $100.00. i do not understand why loosing headlights due to a known issue is a hard call to turn into a recall. on my way in to work this morning my right headlight went out making it 2 for 2. headlights are a serious safety issue when it is dark. with one light out is is hard to see, in this case, the right of the road on the winding mountain road i travel in to my office. this starts as intermittent and eventually burns the connector sockets. you can do better.
The headlight bulb connector has melted on the driver side and headlight no longer turns on. passenger side still works but will need to get replaces asap.

Headlights mysteriously begin flickering after using turn signal or flicker without using turn signal. lights have completely turned off without warning at night creating an extremely unsafe driving condition. headlights have also flickered hitting bumps in road again causing unsafe driving conditions. i never know when this is going to happen - so it does cause some very nervous driving experiences. i'm attaching a document showing other kia soul owners that have the same or similar problems.
Flickering headlights and dash lights. very dangerous as it occurs while driving in the dark. for safety reasons, i can no longer drive this vehicle at night. my local dealer will not fix free of charge since this problem, while widely known and dangerous, has not been classified as a 'recall.'
Replaced a headlight and within 15 min. the bulb blew out. when i checked the bulb the connector part was hot and a little melted.
Takata recall my 2014 kia soul has been experiencing problems with the headlights turning off while in motion at night! they both begin to flicker and they turn off and just leave me with my low running lights on. this is a very serious issue its not the first time kia has been notified of this and this is a safety hazard!! this has happened to alot of people and need to be a recall
Headlight can flicker or go out completely when switching hi/low beam or using turn signals. sometimes they blink briefly, other times they go out completely until you play with the multifunction switch more. searching online, it's a common issue with the kia soul (https://www.wcpo.com/money/consumer/dont-waste-your-money/some-kia-owners-report-haunted-headlights), they have a technical service bulletin for the issue due to its common occurrence. one of their other models was recalled for a similar issue but not the soul. very dangerous if this occurs at night. additionally, other drivers see your lights blinking and are assuming you are getting aggressive with them and can respond aggressively back. issue is constantly present and leads to not using turn signals in most cases so the headlights stay on.
This is involving recall sc176 and other concerns. car loses force while accelerating that has happen 2-3 times. as well as rattling noise under car. also, headlights are flickering and turn off completely. car has left me stranded once thinking it was the battery, i bought new battery and still it indicates that new battery is low 9volts. all this while driving on city streets. i have nothing to show as evidence. but i will take pictures as the lights start to flicker again. i have taken the car to kia to have a recall performed which they said they did but car is still not responding as it should. oil change was done according to the tech. and a diagnose was also preformed and said nothing is wrong yet my car keeps flickering lights, rattling noise at times, slowing down. but nothing is wrong. oh and the battery is still causing me problems because its not getting the support from the alternator because its still low indicator.
When the 2014 kia soul light settings are set on the auto setting, at night, the lights sometimes completely turn off, sometimes linked to using a turn signal, not always. they do not come on again until the vehicle is restarted, or you switch the lights from auto to manual on. this happens in motion, and stationary, and seems more likely when turning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. while driving various speeds, the passenger side headlight went out. the vehicle was taken to fred beans kia of langhorne (1801 lincoln hwy, langhorne, pa 19047, (855) 998-2259) where the contact was informed that the connector was burnt and the fuse needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Headlights turning off at night while driving.
The headlights and dashboard lights start to flicker on/off several times while driving which not only presents a danger for the driver/passengers in the vehicle but approaching vehicles as well as this can be a distraction when oncoming drivers see flashing headlights and it is definitely a safety issue while operating the vehicle at night. this happens while driving, stationary, city streets, highways turning or going straight. it presents a dangerous driving situation. i listed one date that it happened but it has happened multiple times and continues to happen. kia needs to issue a recall and fix this is as this is not a warranty issue it is a dangerous situation.
I have a 2014 kia soul. i am having an issue with the exterior lights. while driving, whether on highway doing 70 mph or in the city doing 10 to 45 mph. the lights go out for 30 seconds will flick back on and do this repeatedly several times. no check engine or other lights are illuminated. it happens more often when using my blinker signals. this has become dangerous. driving with my newborn baby in car and this happened almost causing a severe accident. i have been pulled over as well due to this issue. it has gotten to the point i do not feel safe driving at night time which causes several issues. why is there no recall on this issue? this started after taking my vehicle in to fix two recalls a few months ago and has continued.
Late one night, i try to turn on my headlights on. the light would not come on and started to flicker i had to turn them off and on several times to get them on. them a few months later my driver side head lamp did not work. i replace the bulb. then i receive a notice from kia there my be a problem with the lights flicking. i when into the victorville kia dealership for a different recall, and ask them to check the problem with the flicker and at the time had the driver head light out and they said that they couldn't re-product the problem and they would not fix the electrical system. i had the head light replace, along with the wires, they had burn up. i just replaced by third headlight. three (3) head lights within four (4) months.
When driving with head lights on for a while lights will go off and on then off for a while until light cool down
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. the contact stated that the headlights flickered. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness area overheated and melted the plastic cover for the wires, which caused the wires to flicker. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Whether the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway, the right headlight will flicker and then go out. no matter what i've done on my end, nothing has solved the issue, racking up unnecessary costs. once in a while the headlight will stay on longer than expected but suddenly turns off, making it very dangerous while driving on pitch black roads.
I was driving along the highway when i heard a clicking noise. after the noise, my car started to lose acceleration. no matter how hard i pressed the pedal, it just wouldn't go above 5mph and began making a loud noise. had it checked out and it was determined to be the catalytic converter.
Headlights flicker on and off when using turn signal, sometimes while just driving. sometimes they turn completely off and don't turn back on unless i flip between auto/manual. this has been happening for a few months now and is getting worse. this is incredibly dangerous and i am worried for my safety if i can't get them to turn back on. i work at night and absolutely need my lights to work. i drive main roads and back roads and on the back roads when they go out i can't see anything. until i get this sorted out i've resorted to not using my turn signals at night, which is dangerous in itself/illegal and there's also the fact that they turn off/flicker occasionally while not using the turn signal. though that seems to be the most common trigger. i have no idea what is causing this but it seems to be extremely common in 2014 kia souls.
Headlights: intermittent head lights on kia soul. had a headlight out so put in new bulb. worked and on my way. next morning light worked okay for about 20 minutes and went out. this has happened on both lefthand & righthand head lights. after replacing bulbs a couple time i put old ones back in with the same result. i found out this is a known problem but loosing lights does not seem to be a safety issue. loosing lights at night is a huge safety issue. apparently the connectors that connect the headlights to the wiring harness was made with substandard plastic and the heat of the engine warp the connectors. this seems like it should be a full blown recall. started happening in march 2019 and continues.
Kia soul 2014 vehicle head lights flick and burn out continuously and beam lights burn out, even after replacing bulbs.
For the past three months i've been having issues with the headlights and bright lights on my 2014 kia soul. i have been experiencing the lights flickering and sporadically turning on and off until recently where they will not come on at all. i have been researching how i can fix this issue by going to kia dealerships, and looking online for a solution. i have come across several youtube videos as well as online help suggesting that it is a known issue with this car. it is said to be an issue with the switch and/or the connector that causes the problem. i've changed the bulb as well as the fuse with the same issue. i'm getting tickets due to this being an issue that is not an easy fix. it's scary to drive distances with children in the vehicle and not knowing if the lights will turn on or off.
The headlight connectors melt or burn out causing one or more headlights to stop working intermittently or completely while driving. this issue occurs when the vehicle is moving or stationary.
Headlights flicker on and off or turn off completely after using turn signal. lights always flicker or turn off after turn is completed and the turn signal goes back to normal. happens at every speed whether there is a bump in the road or not.
Takata recall.. drivers side low beam keeps going out. previously it would be out one day then when i would start my car it would come back on. in the picture both lights are working but 5 mins before only the passenger side was working. this has been an going issue for about 2 years now. sometimes i had to replace the bulb after it being out for over a week but the bulb was not blown.
Driver side headlight went out. replaced bulb back on and then right back off. further looking and the adapter plug that snaps into the back of the light is burnt!
Connector on headlight wires are burning while operating headlights and causeing both headlights to go out while on the expressway. bulbs are burnt out but headlights will not come on until car sits for a while.
I had to get new headlights at the dealership. it is now getting ridiculous. one head light will not work. it will come on when it feels like coming on. sometimes it comes on.sometimes it will come on right away others times it will flicker on off and not work at all. it is dangerous because i drive home in the dark and i dnt want to get filled over. i also drive in dark roads and it makes it hard to see when only one headlight works. i am now noticing that is the working in the car not my headlights.
Engine runs dry of oil while stationary, headlight wires melt while stationary.
After running vehicle the driver's side rear running light goes out. the tail light assembly was checked and fully functional, turn indicator works, brake light works, hazard light flashes. this is the factory led version of the tail light assembly. this happened 6 months ago. then i flipped the fuse and it came back on. now it has gone off again and the fuse flip is not remedying the problem.
When the multi-function switch controlling the headlamps is in automatic mode, the headlamps will switch off unexpectedly. this sometimes happen when turning on a blinker while turning, but sometimes just driving down the road. this is extremely dangerous, i have been driving at night or in the early morning hours on multiple occasions, and the lights go off leaving me driving blind for several moments on the road. the list of bad things the could happen is endless: hit a pedestrian or cyclist on the side of the road; have someone pull out not seeing me coming, veer or brake unexpectedly due the shock of the lights going off, you name it. kia appears to have issues a service bulletin on the topic concerning defective lighting connections, but, the dealership i called seemed unaware of it. multiple posts on line show the same or similar issues with the vehicle and several state kia will not issue a recall and will only pay for a bulletin item if the vehicle is still in warranty, which mine is not. this is a highly unsafe situation and should be subject to a recall to be paid by the manufacturer. this online article details the issue: https://www.cars.com/articles/2014-2015-kia-soul-headlight-issue-1420683403693/ kia needs to issue a recall before someone gets killed, if they haven't already. please advise. thanks.
Headlights keep randomly flickering off and on while driving. started out just when i had my lights on auto and had the turn signals on. last night they went out on their own while i was driving down a dark road for several seconds. this is very dangerous and seems to be a common problem.
Headlights go out or flicker whenever i use turn signal when i'm stopped and put turn signal on or when i'm driving and put the turn signal on. i've only noticed this when driving on local roads, freeways in my area are well lit so i have no idea if this happens on the freeway when changing lanes
Headlights flicker on and off when i first turn on the headlights. there is no rhyme or reason to when it happens. it is usually fast on/off flickering. this is very dangerous and happens without warning. most times the car is in park but i am concerned that this will become worse.
Head light bulbs on both side keep burning out or will go out when driving down the road at night. pig tail to the lights had to be replaced in order to fix the issue. was not covered under warranty and cost me to have it fixed when it is apparently a re-occurring problem. this occurs during stationary modes and traveling mode. on back roads with no lighting this is very dangerous and could cause an accident.
When driving the headlights will flicker and go off dome times they come back on and some times they stay off also have had the dash lights go off with it it has happened on side streets and on the highway it has happen stoped at a stop sign i have had it to the kia dealer but they can't find a thing wrong with it
Rarely drive at night but had to. the exterior front lights flickered and momentarily went off twice. there was a deep ditch extended to about 1/2 a lane with the other lane closed. if the lights remained off, wouldn't have driven the car. same night - the usb port stopped working but came on again next morning. this is beyond dangerous and further measures will be taken if it's not resolved by kia.
Driver side headlight only works at random times, it will come on and a few seconds later it goes out. most times it doesn't work at all. last week i had a new switch installed that was on an extended warranty, the light worked for one (1) day and was out again yet i was told the switch was bad that they removed. happens when moving or stationary, leaving driveway. if the vehicle sets a while sometimes it will come on and stay on most times it just doesn't work. i consider this a safety issue because i don't know when the other headlight will go out. this has been going on since aug. 2018. i replace the bulb and it works for 3 months then starts over again working randomly
Headlights randomly flash off and back on while driving. this seems to happen with the turn signal activated but also happens without. this can sometimes be corrected by turning the lights off then back on manually. all of this is quite dangerous while driving needless to say and should certainly be a recall item.
When i drive my soul in the dark with my headlights on they start flickering and then they just go completely out. sometimes it's small flickering and sometimes it is completely out and dont come back on for several seconds. today i had to turn them off and back on twice before they would come back on at all. this is extremely dangerous when it is dark. especially driving on a curvy 2 lane highway in the dark like i do. at first it happened when i used my turn signal, but now i dont have to do anything and they flicker and then go on and off.
When headlamps are in automatic mode, they will sometimes flicker on/off, or turn off completely until headlamp controls are manipulated (by turning headlamp power switch dial back and forth or by pulling/pushing low/high beam control). this is exacerbated by driving on an unstable road (i.e. a road with potholes or bumps), when actuating signal light controls, and when stopping. this happens mostly when the vehicle is going at speeds over 40 mph, but has happened in city streets at velocities as low as 5 mph. this has happened several times over the course of the last months, beginning around august 2018.
While driving the car the headlights flicker and sometimes go off randomly. this has now begun to occur while the car is also parked. this is highly dangerous while traveling at night and a huge safety risk.
The headlights on my 2014 kia soul started to flicker as well as the internal lights at the same time on the dashboard (speed, etc.). i normally keep the headlight setting on auto and i have had this vehicle for a little over 4 years never had an issue until now. i am paying to get the switch replaced in hopes it will resolve this issue, but it is dangerous problem because the headlights no longer just flicker they will go completely out some times which can be scary while driving at night.
Tested deficiency on multiple conditions (car moving, stationary, engine running and engine off, highway and city roads) and nothing changed the light behavior. driver's side headlight only. initially flickered on and off. sometimes toggling brights on and off would help at first. this went on for about a week and a half. after light stopped working, i changed both bulbs. light continued to flicker off and on for about a week, then died altogether. called shawnee mission kia, in overland park, ks and spoke to service manager joe. he stated he was not personally familiar with the issue, but that some of his service department employees might be. i told him there were 132 complaints on the nhtsa website, but he told me without a recall i could not get a discount or free repair. this is a dangerous condition that could result in a driver losing all headlight function without warning. i am unable to safely operate my vehicle at night because kia will not repair their obviously defective equipment.
While driving at night, when the blinker is used, the headlights flicker and go out for a few seconds. once you use the blinker once it will continue to do so for many minutes. this is incredibly unsafe. upon research, it is a faulty wire that overheats the connector causing it become deformed. this is a safety issue and should be a recall asap.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. while driving various speeds, the headlights would flicker and then completely turn off. the contact also mentioned that the headlights would inadvertently illuminate again. the vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Was driving down back country highway where there are no highway lights when my head lights would turn off for a few seconds and then back on a couple of times. then when i thought it was okay to drive, anytime i would use my blinker, all of my interior would turn off and on. this never happened to me until recently. i wasn't hitting any bumps when it happened, just highway. i was driving my kids back home from a weekend trip so it's not like i was close to home either which made it worse. about a year ago i did have my headlight wiring worked on after my left headlight would randomly work and not work on days and it turned out to by my wire burned. kia fixes that problem but this headlight flickering at night is extremely dangerous and after researching it looks like there are many others who have experienced the same scary scenario with no good outcome from kia. just to add as well, i've been recieving numerous calls from kia before this trying to buy my car back because it is in 'high demand', but after this happened it has came across my mind that they are just trying to buy them back to prevent liability on their part for not putting a recall out on the problem before something happens to someone and/or their family.
Driving at night and the head lights randomly turn off and back on, sometimes judt for a second and sometimes longer.
