We have classified the 92 complaints from 2014 Kia Soul about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
At night headlights and dashboard goes or flickers while driving down the road. other people got the same problem of it happening. we all get told that they can't make the problem happen so they can't fix it.
While driving the car, the headlights intermittently will dim and brighten on their own. sometimes turning off completely. twice the dashboard lights have gone out completely as well.
2014 kia soul headlamps will randomly shut off and on while driving vehicle. when driving on country roads with no street lighting at night we must stop and play with the lights to get them to function properly. it is at the point where we can't drive the vehicle safely at night to avoid accidents. this has been happening for several weeks now even though i reported it as of 07/02/2018
The lights in my kia souls interior and exterior are flickering and going out completely sometimes. very unsafe when i am already driving. happens to my headlights and dash lights and interior roof lighting. it has also caused my lights to stay on sometimes and causes my battery to die. this has happened while the car is idle or driving or off completely when the doors are open.
Drivers side headlight flickers and will go out completely. this happens while driving or stationary, and does not depend on speed. i have replaced the headlight twice. the second time i noticed that the connector that attaches to the bulb itself is starting to melt.
The headlight socket has melted and this causes the vehicles headlight on the driver side to go out without warning. this happened once before a few months ago and then happened most recently on 6/8/2018. we had to then drive to another location to get a bulb which did give us a headlight for now...but it will go out without warning again as it has done many times. this happens while driving and is not only unsafe but could cause me to get a ticket since it is illegal to drive without non-functioning headlights. online research has indicated that many people with this particular vehicle have experienced issues.
While driving ( in motion) at night on a major highway, using my low beam headlights and when using my left and right blinker, the headlights go out. this has happened to me twice now and to my son several times. this is very dangerous and will hopefully be corrected by kia.
I experienced headlight flickering and going off completely while driving on my way home from work the night of june 1, 2018. this alarming problem started without warning. after this incident and before my appointment at the kia dealership on june 4, 2018, i started researching this problem and found technical service bulletin ele093 which i took to the dealership at my appointment. after my oil change, i was told no problem was detected with my headlights. i experienced this problem again last night (july 19, 2018) and needed a police escort to get home. this headlight problem is a product liability issue and a factory defect. it is an immediate threat to my safety and welfare and that of my passengers as well as other drivers on the roadway. i use my vehicle to get to my job at night and to transport elderly patients for a variety of services, sometimes to the emergency room at night. in light of the threat of physical harm to myself and others, i have requested that kia handle the cost of repairing this problem as soon as possible since this is not a problem associated with normal wear and tear.
Headlights and instrument panel go out suddenly. this happens both in motion and stationary. also upon starting the car or after driving even a short distance. random actually. very dangerous at night.
While driving at night my headlights flicker a few times then completely go out. it's scary! they go back on shortly after but i'm afraid of them going out completely. i can't believe there is no recall on this. there are many reports of this online.
My headlights go on and off at random. they will go off while driving. they flicker and then go off for a few seconds.
While driving our 2015 kia soul home at night on back country roads, the lights started flashing. then they completely shut off. it continued to do this the whole drive home. this made a very unsafe drive home for our daughter. she had to pull over and call for us to come get her.
The driver side headlight randomly goes off for days at a time then comes back on for a couple days then off again.
I have had to replace the driver's side headlight three times in the last 2 months. when replacing headlight i use gloves so as not to touch the glass. i researched this problem on the internet and notice that many owners are having the same problem. there should be a recall since this is a definite safety issue. vehicle was moving when issue occurred.
The driver side headlight will flicker or entirely turn off. we have replaced the bulb multiple times with manufacture products and discovered the electric plug to the headlight is melted. this is a safety issue as we cannot drive at night safely. each time we replace the bulb it stops functioning in a few days to weeks.
While driving my kia soul my headlights will switch completely off and it has became very dangerous especially when i am driving on dark back roads. i notice it happens when i put my signal light on and turn it seems that this may be a trigger to the malfunction. i have seen that other kia soul owners have been experiencing this same malfunction and i wonder why it has not been a recall. the lights will sometimes pop right back on but last night it blinked out for a minute and i had to put the high beam on. but all last night the high been seemed to not want to work so now it is dangerous to drive at night time.
Headlights flickered/ went out while driving at night on interstate. had to break suddenly, rainy ,had the wipers going, radio on, gps plugged in to auxiliary plug. 7pturned the nob on the steering column on /off, headlights came back on. went to the next exit. stopped at traffic stoplight, right blinker, foot on brake, took foot off brake to make right turn, made steering wheel turned to right, lights flickered again. happened on 3-23-18 9:30pm . took to my mechanic today 4-1-18 - tcb auto in dallas ga, battery fine, bulbs fine, fuses fine, 3 weeks ago had oil change, new tires. could not diagnose it..advised me online many reports ,even kia doesn't know how to fix it, ifafter bulletin,no recalls yet...put in this report..
I bought my 2014 kia soul used with one previous owner. as i was driving home on the freeway after purchasing it my lights began to flicker. at times they would go out for a few moments. i had to pull over and have my husband drive in front of me with our other vehicle in fear the lights would go out and i wouldn't be able to see the road ahead. i could of been in a serious crash. also came home to a dead battery one day because my lights which were off when i left the house randomly were on when i got home that night.
Right headlamp began flickering while driving. it has since failed completely. bulbs have been changed and the issue persists. does not matter if vehicle is in motion or driving. approximately 65000 miles.
Driving on freeway or street, interior and exterior lighting to headlamps flicker on and off when using turn signals. they will stay off sometimes this is dangerous.
Headlights flicker off for a few seconds when on auto-headlights. headlights do not flicker when manually moved to on. this has happened multiple times while driving in town and on the highways.

When driving at night the left driver side head light turns off on it's own after being on for about 4 minutes. the only way to get the light to come back on it to turn the headlight off for a few seconds and then turn them back on. this is not safe at all and can cause an accident.
Low beam headlights flicker intermittently at the same time. this will happen when the vehicle is either stationary or moving, on the street or highway. road conditions do not seem to be a factor.i usually drive with the headlights on during the day. vehicle does not have auto-headlights. have been to dealer three times for repairs. problem still persists. i have enclosed copy of repair bills(over $700.00) & a recall article from recall masters. (recallmasters.com) i realize that the 2014 soul is not mentioned in this notice but, it has all the same characteristics.i have no idea what causes this to happen. the dealer & i have been unable to induce this to happen. the dealer has not seen this happen. they can only take my word that it does.

One the headlights started out as just flickering, it would turn off for 2 seconds but will come back on as i'm driving. then after about a week, it would be a while and i have to turn my lights off then turn it back on to get it to work again. but these past few days, it would not turn on at all even after flipping the switch on-off. i drive home late from night class and i'm afraid the other headlight is on its way out too.

When making a turn of changing lanes when turn signal is set once it resets all lights turn off or high beams flash turn on/off and have to move or play with turn signal handle for the lights to turn one again. note while driving on freeway and changing lanes at night i set the turn signal to change lanes and when it reset all lights turned off leaving me driving in the dark and my family safety was at high risk. something is wrong with turn signal handle causing a short, note that some times instead of lights turning off the high beams flash on/off.

Since i've owned my 2014 kia soul, i've had to deal with a recall for the a pin (so my steering wheel won't stop working) and my a problem with my axel nut 2/01/2017, which began shaking my vehicle on hwy 16, almost causing an accident. i had that fixed and just had a recall service and realized this was something i already paid for, which i've requested a refund. in between those instances, i had both headlights stop working, in the dark, while i was driving on a poorly lit hwy 302. i had those replaced and the driver side went out again, at night, while i was driving. i was told that the headlight connections were melted. i did some research and this seems to be a common occurrence. with that said...this car had a potential issue with rolling, steering and visibility...probably wouldn't happen all at once but you never know. regardless, i'm starting to wonder how safe this vehicle really is and would hope that kia would be a responsible company and assist with helping the customer remedy these concerns. i really am concerned for my safety and will be driving another vehicle more regularly. kia told me that since there is no open recall on the headlights than there is nothing they could do. i hope they understand that all 3 of the aforementioned issues are significant but fear my concerns fell on deaf ears. maybe an official review with nhtsa will keep kia accountable to their actions or lack there of. thanks for your time. The left headlight would work on and off. i had the dealer check it and they replaced the headlight on 12 dec with a sylvania headlight bulb i provided. after a while the same issue happened again. on 13 jan 17 they replaced the headlight again. this time with a kia bulb.. same issue. i had more issues with the lights working sometimes and not working. the light went out again and i took it to the dealership again and this time they found a short. the problem happened when the vehicle was moving and also when it was stopped. sometimes it would be working when i parked but would not work when i started the car back up again. it was amazing that the dealership didn't trouble shoot the issue the first time. they said the warranty was invalid after we changed the bulb with a non-kia bulb. the dealership confirmed the first replacement bulb was compatible with the kia soul.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. while driving various speeds, the headlights failed without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,587.
Head lights go out at night and daytime when in motion at least 5 times and have stayed out for as long as 20 seconds. switch is in the on position. has happened when in motion, turning with signal on, when setting still in traffic, in motion when taken to the dealer, sitting still in dealer service writing area. green light on dash display sometimes goes out and sometimes stays on even when the lights go off. lights were malfunctioning the first time i took it to the dealer--head lights were off, parking lights were on and switch was in the on position--the problem could not be reproduced when connected to diagnostic equipment. dealer will not fix until problem is detected by diagnostic equip. battery has also been rundown when parked for as short a period as 3 1/2 days when nothing has been left plugged in.
When driving with the headlights on they will randomly turn off for a bit then turn on again, but sometimes this requires trying to turn the headlights off then on again. very dangerous when trying to drive at night. brought vehicle to dealership where a check was run on it, they were unable to find the problem. i am unable to drive at night until the problem can be discovered.
Driver side headlights intermittent when using r turn signal, not working 90% of time. problem started @ 45,000 miles. dealer notified, couldn't repair due to not being able to replicate problem. now at 73,000 miles, with no operable driver headlight.
Headlight was intermittently going on and off. would work for the first several minutes after turning it on for the first time in a day, but seemed to go out after it was warmed up. went to change the bulb and discovered that the plug that the headlight bulb plugged in to was partially melted and brown, as if it had overheated or caught on fire briefly. dealership replaced the headlight assembly under warranty. notes from dealership below: complaint c/s pass headlight is out and the outlet is burt check and advise cause found internal connector to bulb burnt/melted. has original headlight bulb. inspected for broken wires- found none correction jco headlight assy, under warranty
Headlights go on an off
I bought my 2014 kia soul with 6 miles on it nov 2013. i have had nothing but problem after problem with my headlights turning off when i use my turn signal or after using my turn signal. i have taken it to the dealership to have the same problem fixed. finally big red sports & imports took a kia soul off their car lot (after my 3rd trip there & they still didn't have the part) to put a new part in my car to fix the problem. i still had problems with my head lights so i took my kia to a different dealership. now my car won't go into reverse at times, and while i'm "trying" to put it in reverse my automatic locks start locking an un-locking really fast. i have to turn my car off, and try to start all over so it will go into reverse. i have also already had to have the battery replaced. my worry is my safety when driving at night with my head lights wanting to work when they feel like it. or if i get stranded somewhere because my car won't shift gears. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. while driving during the day or night, the headlights illuminated and then shut off independently. the vehicle was taken to kia of chattanooga (2136 chapman rd, chattanooga, tn 37421, (423) 855-1022) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the following day, the contact found that the parking lights illuminated independently and drained the battery. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the contact was informed that a new battery was needed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact stated that the parking light failure occurred a few years ago and was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an internal failure. the contact stated that an unknown switch was replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,898. *js
Pretty much since i have had vehicle car jerks at time, check engine light comes on at times, the fuel needle drops up and down to empty even when i just filled it up. and rang number turns to lines and flashes like car fuel is empty even though it is full. also left head light is burnt i replaced the bulb but it didn't fix issue. so i think the whole head lamp needs to be replaced. this was purchased like this. it seems there might be a emissions issue.
I had an emergency and tried at night to unlock electric doors for my passengers and i. upon attempting to manage the emergency and unlock the door for my passengers to exit the vehicle, i was greatly delayed because the "unlock light is non functioning" and can't be seen in the dark. this is a safety problem & i believe it warrants a recall because the dealer refuses to acknowledge it as a problem that needs correcting. thanks god there was no fire! please advise and assist, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
