While driving my 2014 kia soul on a country road, without warning, a knocking sound began. i pulled over and called my husband, who prompted me to check the oil. i had never missed an oil change, there were no leaks, no smoking and everything was tight and clean. i was shocked to find there was no oil at all. the oil light had never come on. i called the dealership and they prompted me to add oil and bring it in immediately. it died near the corner of the dealership and was pushed into the service center where i was told it needed a new engine.

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 kia soul. the contact stated that while driving a highway rate of speed from another state, there had been other drivers on the roadway honking horns to alert the contact that the vehicle was smoking. there was an abnormal noise progressing from the engine assembly. upon further inspecting from the rear view mirror and noticed smoke coming from the vehicle then the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, the contact exited the vehicle as the engine bursts into flames. the vehicle was towed to a facility by the insurance company who indicated the vehicle was a total loss. the dealer (janesville kia, 3419 ryan rd, janesville, wi 53545, (608) 743-9600) was called and informed of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that they would follow up in three business days, provided a case number but had not yet responded to the contact. the approximate failure mileage was not available.
The engine caught on fire! while i was driving along the highway at a normal 55 miles per hour. i hear a poof and the next thing saw smoke and pulled right to side of road, lifted the hood and discovered the engine was in flames. i grabbed a sheet from inside the car and attempted to beat the flames back, along with a a can of pepsi the only liquid i had. but a good samaritan stopped with a fire extinguisher and put the fire out.
The floor board is always warm. the car seems to drive fine for about 20 -30 mins and then the car seems to lose power and will barely go uphill...check engine light has been on for a catalytic converter in the past but went back out. car has been at kia now since june 18th... have a case with kia america. dealer told me the cat was clogged. now worried about engine damage because of clogged cat. vehicle is under recall sc176 via kia

Engine started making noise then engine rod went through engine block while on highway traveling approx 60mph. car stopped and coasted to side of the road while smoke poured from engine. oil all over road and engine. towed to dealership. dealership says it's not related to recall #19v120. contacted kia customer service. case rep says it should be covered and they have to contact the district service rep in the area. dealership refuses to help and keeps trying to sell new engine. district service rep won't give kia customer service any info. they've requested info twice with no response. i keep getting passed to voicemails with no return calls from kia customer service, i've tried email as well.
Car caught fire on may 24th 2019. my son heard/felt a pop and got out and checked his tires and they were fine, then smoke started coming from engine and car went up into flames.
In may of 2019, my car experienced engine knocking. we brought it in to get an oil change, the knocking stopped and one day a couple of weeks later while driving down the highway at 60 mph, the engine threw a rod. after having it towed back to our house, the tow guy told us the engine was completely out of oil. that would have been impossible seeing as we had just gotten an oil change. we were moving the following week and had the car towed to our new house an hour away where my kia soul has been sitting for the past 8 months. after doing some research and fighting with kia consumers, kia is refusing to replace my engine that they failed to include in the 2018-19 recall on engines that were failing due to this exact problem. i purchased this car used in 2016 and still owe just over $10,000. the quotes i've gotten from mechanics around me have been close to $8,000 for a used engine and installment. i'm unable and refuse to purchase a new engine for a car that isn't worth more than $5,000 and i'm at a loss as to what to do. i cannot trade it in due to me being so upside down on my loan, i'd really rather not voluntarily repo it and i want to demand kia fix the problem they failed to fix a year ago.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia soul. while driving 65-70 mph, the vehicle shook uncontrollably, made an abnormal bubbling sound, and stalled. the vehicle was coasted over to the road shoulder and towed to classic kia carrolton (2920 n interstate 35e, carrollton, tx 75007, (866) 559-8140). the dealer stated that the engine did not stall and the vehicle was not included in a recall. the contact stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 87,000.
So the same thing that the other kia engine recall is for happened to my kia with a 2.0 l engine i see other complaints from other owners saying this has happened on their 2 liter engine as well but the recall doesnt cover us so we are here with blown engines and no remedy other than to pay for the repairs out of pocket... i think this recall needs to be expanded.
Coming up to a stoplight the motor died and tried to restart it, but the starter would only click. had the car towed to my home and called my mechanic. he told me to check if to see if i could turn the motor over by hand and it would not turn. removed the oil pan and found a spun bearing on the #3 connecting rod. so far i have spent $1200 in parts to repair it as it is not covered by the factory warranty as i am the 2nd owner.
We purchased a car from a small lot selling used cars in tempe, arizona. at 20 days and about 800 miles the car began to make a loud knocking noise as my son was driving the car into our neighborhood going about 5-10 miles per hour. he shut off the car. i checked the oil dipstick and there was zero oil in the car. i immediately called the salesperson about this issue. he said we could tow it to him to look at it and he insisted that he changed the oil in the car before we ever drove it. due to my concern that there was no oil in the car, i added 2.5 quarts. there have been no oil leaks since we purchased the car, nor were there any after i added the 2.5 quarts. we had the car towed to the dealer on a friday morning and no real work was completed. i called kia corporate and they told me they were aware of this issue where the oil would just evaporate and that it was covered under sc147. kia corporate had me call a local kia dealership and that's when the service dept said kia corporate was wrong. i made a return call to kia corporate who corrected the first agent and told me they were wrong and that i have to pay out of pocket for this issue. the engine issue should be covered under a class action lawsuit - this is the same symptoms as other class action lawsuits at this time for other kia vehicles.
My motor has 103,000 miles on it. it started making a slight ticking sound. the oil is changed regularly and it was nearly time to have it changed. i took my little boy to school and the car lost power and the noise got a lot worse. i went ahead and took it to castrol to have them check the oil. the oil was fine but we went ahead and changed it. i ended up having to have my car towed home. a mechanic looked at it and said that i needed a new motor.
The motor blew and oil light came on without any warning ! in motion on. highway . the oil had just been changed less then a month prior to that . diagnostics showed oil had been burnt up causing rod failure and motor !
We literally bought our 17 yr old daughter a 2014 kia soul 2.0 a month ago! in less then a month from purchasing she was driving down our major highway and the car started to make a loud ticking noise and started to shake she said the car stalled and she was able to coast to pull over the check engine light and oil light came on together ! we just had the car serviced at our local kia dealership w oil changed . she was able to get the car home . we had a certified mechanic come tow it to see what the problem was he said he had to put 3 q of oil in it just to hook up for diognostic as the oil was bone dry ! all of the readings were unstable due to blown motor ! not sure why the 1.6 liter was recalled due to engine failure but all the complaints i have read is on the 2.0. we was quoted 6200$ to fix it because the 2014 engines have been discontinued! hmmm why is that ?! we have a 9,000$ car sitting that i have a loan on paying monthly and our daughter is without a vehicle let me add she lost her job ! i have called the consumer reports and explained what happened they gave me a claim number and said someone will contact me within 3 business days . it is now going on 2 weeks ! i will be looking at all my options at this point and will be contacting our lawyer !

I had my oil changed last month and noticed an odd smell around that time i didnt think much of it at the time because there was no noise or obvious leaks to weeks later my oil light started flashing sometimes and i checked the oil level... it was a quart low so i topped it off and went back to normal fastfoward to this month its emptied out twice i took it to a shop and they found the cat had overheated and caused an oil leak and there is now an awful ticking noise coming from the engine the dealership said this is a known issue on the model with the 1.6 liter engine and a recall was issued but this recall doesnt cover the 2.0 liter even though it is the exact same issue i have done some research and found several other customers who had this same issue on their 2.0 liter models and had to buy new engines this is horrible and i as a consumer feel a full engine failure on a well maintained car that isn't even 5 years old should be covered by the same recall. kia needs to expand this recall

Driving on the highway and the engine just stopped. all lights went on and the car stalled. i had to pull to the shoulder. i was told there is a hole in the engine block and its 6000 to fix!!! i couldve died!!!
Only has 104000 miles with regular documented oil change. blown engine rod. at traffic light and when i accelerated large knocking was heard
I own a 2014 kia soul plus with 104,000 miles. this car has had documented synthetic oil changes on a regular basis. out of nowhere the engine rod has blown. i have called five different mechanics and all state the kia is known for bad engines. called jasper who is well known for rebuilt engines and they will not touch a kia. i understand the hyundai has recalled numerous cars for bad engines. kia has recalled from 2012 to 2016 the kia soul base for bad catalytic converter and on the recall notice it specifically states that the catalytic converter can damage the engine. i have owned four cars with mileage over 200,000 and one car, a mazda 626, had over 325,000 miles and i never had to replace an engine there has to be some federal protection for the public from manufacturers that sell a poorly made product that mechanics from all over know are problematic. i only have owned this car for less than 4 years.
Engine loses power at times for a split second. acceleration sometimes causes a lunging motion. also has difficulty maintaining speed while climbing small hills. oil runs dry within a week of refill.
I was driving down the road doing about 45 miles per hour and out of nowhere my vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. i had to act fast and get off the road so i wouldn't get hit by the oncoming traffic. i had the vehicle towed and come to find out my 2.0 engine had seized. the tow truck driver from kia international roadside stated that they have been towing kia souls all month for bad engine problems. i have 65000 miles on my vehicle. my next oil change wasn't until another 1000 miles. no low oil pressure light came on not even the engine light, it just shut off out of nowhere. all the oil was sucked out of the engine, on top of that i have to pay $8,000 to get a new engine. a recall need to be put up about no warning lights on the dashboard.
I noticed a strange clicking or sputtering of my motor and then the engine completely cut off while driving down a city street. fortunately, i was on a street, turning right at a stop light...and not the freeway! found out that the engine blew and that all the oil was sucked up out of my car. my next oil change wasn't due for another 1000 miles. i had no warning lights! no nothing other than non-functioning car. researched engine failure and found out about the recall on 1.6 l engines (i have a 2l) but same issue. my mechanic said that he sees this at least once every 2 months in kia's. the 2l needs to be added to the recall! apparently, after research on this site, many people are complaining about the same issue. people could get hurt! what if i was on the freeway??? or, my engine caught fire??? i'm so grateful i'm alive right now.

Vehicle in motion, driving in a parking lot at approximately 12mph when the engine stalled. engine failed to restart after several attempts. initial diagnosis and repair from kia dealership said internal damage to fuel pump. less than one hour after picking vehicle up noted noise from engine during acceleration and check engine light came on. took the car back to the dealership and dtc code indicated an issue with catalytic converter.

3/10/19 vehicle showed fluttering engine light while driving on residential street (35 mph). checked, found was 3 qts low on oil at 1 week after oil change when vehicle has shown no noticeable oil consumption previously. maintenance records show on schedule or better since purchase. dealer states internal engine damage @84,526 miles - symptoms match recall 19v-120, including obdii code & catalytic conv, but is denied by manufacturer until the possibility of legal action & media coverage is brought up. is now being 'reviewed' by manufacturer, while no usual dealer assistance - most especially 'loaner' vehicle - is provided. important: as stated in the nhtsa safety report, kia does not produce vins sequentially, thus the usual manufacturer's vin database method appears ineffective - a vin search turns up no recall for this vehicle, including previous ones it has been serviced for, a result reported by other kia owners spoken to while waiting at the dealer's service center. this may be the reason for the widespread issues with recall denial.
I believe my car should be added to the recalls especially the catalytic converter recall i found it very odd that i hae an issue with it only having the car for a few years.my check engine light came on and found out it was the catalytic converter
Loss of engine power, the car was towed to a nearest dealer for diagnosis and found that catalytic converter was defective.
Just finished gassing up after work from highway driving and oil light starts flicking on and off really fast for a min then goes away . after i pull off the main road to a neighborhood i'm about to pull over to check car and go over a speed bump car dies. so i get out pop hood open oil cap there no oil and fumes coming out and i really didnt get a warning light or anything to warn me there wasnt any oil other then the flickering light that just went off. it has 100000 miles got oil changed every 4000 to 5000 it last had one at 96000. so i have someone pick me up i get oil put i. it doesnt start i leave over night find out cpu has a sensor to protect engine from further damage if it gets hot so i disconnect battery and reconnect it starts but now theres a knocking sound i take it 2 min away to firestone they listen to it and say the problem is a internal motor problem they cant fix sounds like a rod broke.or loose. so i have towed to dealer for now. i just saw the news about them catching fire and basically put 2 and 2 together. the cars are eating too much oil due to a regulator sensor and the oil sensor is not letting people now there isn't any or that its low til it's too late so the rods break and puncture the motor causing oil to leak and catch fire due to heat. so now i have a car that's undrivable that i have to pay possibly for a new engine due to a faulty distribution sensor and oil light warning system that causes overheating of the motor. i hope my recall notice comes soon to replace this motor cause i don't have 4 000 to 6000 dollars to replace a new one.
Driving down the highway when oil light started flickering out of nowhere. i exited the next exit about a 1/4 mile.turned down a street and went over a speed bump and car died. so tried to start up nothing happens. . next day towed it to dealer they said they reset battery and started up the engine was knocking sounded like a broken connecting rod which is an issue with all kias. he said the engines connecting rods are breaking and puncturing the engines causing fires. i told him i just got a oil change 3200 miles ago and checked it last week cause i just got married and traveled out of town. the dealers wont touch it now for recall because it's a 2.0 liter so now i have a car that i pay for that doesnt run. i pick my children up in this vehicle and they could have been injured is the scary part.
My daughter was driving the vehicle on 02/22/2019, and it started making a loud knocking sound. we were able to get the car home and drove it to the dealer on 02/23/2019. the vehicle didn't make it all the way to the dealer. the dealer determined that the engine failed and that there was extensive rod bearing damage. this vehicle had only 77526 miles on it.
Recently filed a complaint regarding my 2014 kia soul engine failure, my engine is a 2.0 it makes no sense that a 1.6 liter engine is being recalled
I was driving about 30 mph north on harbor blvd and first st in california sudendly i heard a loud knocking/clicking sound coming from the lower left side of the engine & no error codes came on prior to the noise so i pulled over and called a tow truck to take my vehicle to the nearest mechanic. until today mechanic has unknown origin of problem
On 02/15/2019 i was driving on county hwy h in delta township, wi at 45 mph when suddenly i heard a loud noise and my 2014 kia soul lost power. as it lost power, first my oil light started blinking and then my check engine light came on and started blinking also. i was able to turn it around and drive approx. 100 ft into the delta town hall parking lot where i discovered my engine was smoking and i had lost numerous fluids out of the engine. i then called a local wrecker and they towed it to their shop. a&l auto in iron river, wi. they stated after looking at it that something made a large hole in the side of the engine and most likely the engine would need to be replaced. i then requested they tow it to the kia dealership in duluth, mn where i purchased the vehicle.
Engine blew we took it to avon, in kia dealer. they checked it out and said it was a blown engine. the shop manager also informed us that this year had inferior parts put in it. than they told us it was not covered under any recall and that our warranty had expired. we had call kia corp and they had given us a case number than they turned around and said they would not cover it either. the vehicle was on a highway when this happen heard a lot of metal on metal and knocking sound. had the vehicle towed from that point.
I have been trying to get my car fix since february. it keep stalling without warning no lights will come on. i need someone to look at this situation i would like to get my car fix. i am paying my car note on time every month. please help me. *js
My car has been stalling for the last 6 months it had a recall on the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine conbusion and damage to the engine pistons. i have taken it to the kia shop for an upgrade and that did not work.
Bought a used 2014 kia soul in 12/2015 with 34,000 and put on 17,400 miles to date.approx. 12/27/18 heard a very slight knocking, tapping noise (had to turn the accessories off to hear it) and checked the oil level (which was fine-just had it changed). no loss of power, no smoking, and no warning lights came on. the weather was cold (winter in the northeast) so i assumed the noise was a cold engine and the noise was hardly audible as the car warmed up. it eventually got louder and louder and got faster as i accelerated (still no loss of power, etc. i stopped driving the car middle of january 2019 and parked it in my driveway.(i was afraid i would do more damage) and had it towed to a kia dealer to have them assess the noise. on 1/29/19 the dealer called me at work and told me "you need a new engine"....and also told me she spoke to service dept. and there is nothing they can do for me because it was out of warranty by 5 weeks (approx.).i've submitted all of my maintenance records to date (done by manufacturer's dates/only oil changes/ did not need any mechanical repairs). i've contacted kia headquarters approx. 16 times and no one has returned any calls. last time i spoke to them they are in the 'waiting stage' to see what decision can be made as far as ?? repair or replacement of the engine. they would like me to pay for it. (they want to make sure it's not something i did to the car). meanwhile my vehicle is sitting on the back lot of the dealer. keep in mind i've only put on 17,400 miles in 3 years.......please address if you can. thank you! (i do have all the invoices, maintenance records, but cannot scan at this time)
I was mid turn going home when suddenly my car refused to speed up and became to rumble. i successfully made it home right down the street. when while approaching my home my vehicle stalled and all lights suddenly came on. oil, engine, battery. i have not had any issues with my car and i get my oil changes regularly ( warning light has never came on). i had triple a tow my vehicle to the dealership as i am still under warranty. they wanted to charge my 145 to just look at it. they said the warranty company might not cover the engine being shot. the dealership has not replaced my miles sticker to tell me when i need an oil change the last three times i've been there. they never informed me how long their oil changes are good for. i have read many reviews on this car and many people have had the same issue. my car is covered under warranty but they want to charge me and might not even fix it. i haven't been able to work without my car so i am low on funds. if a engine issues are very common with this model of vehicle they should be able to replace no questions asked. i pay for my warranties but they cant help me?
I was driving down the highway and suddenly heard a clicking sound in the front. my car seemed to be put of gear and was revving up. i immediately pulled to the side and it died right there. i have 102k on this car and it is completely dead. i was told engine needs to be replaced
Every time i start my car, there is a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. there is also an oil leak, and my oil light came on 3,000 miles before i was due for an oil change. the knocking will subside, but come back in spurts as i am driving.
