We have classified the 66 complaints from 2014 Kia Sorento about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Doors just started not unlocking or locking with fob or by door panel and the back up alarm beeps non stop as soon as you put it in reverse, all sensors are clean.
Today i was driving to my parents house on a long straight away highway (55mph speed limit). i began passing another vehicle and as soon as i got around him my check engine light, oil light, and battery light came on. i promptly pulled over on the side of the road and shut the car off. i checked oil level, which was fine. no obvious over heating, smoke, or leaks. i decided to turn the car back on to see if the lights were still there but the car wouldn't start. it was completely dead aside from one tiny crank noise then nothing. luckily someone stopped and we got the car started by jumping it. went to the local parts store and my battery, starter, and alternator all checked out ok. no further lights or issues the rest of the day. not sure what happened but i'm scared to drive it long distance now. never had an issue with this car before this.
My headlights continue to blow out every few weeks, no matter what kind of bulb i use. last night while on a very dark and rainy road, both headlights went out forcing me to drive with my hazards with my children in the car. very dangerous. apparently, this isn't an isolated incident.
Engine seized with no warning. complete engine failure. we have maintained the vehicle and have had no prior issues. the engine seized at 90,000 miles driving down the road. the check engine light never came on. we have the 100,000 mile warranty and kia has not covered the repairs to the engine. we were advised we need a new engine.
Door locks only lock and unlock occasionly. batteries replaced in fobs still not operating properly. read that slot of people have or had the same issue. doors would typically lock when you drive. use to not anymore. had car in for recall on engine this year.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. while driving various speeds, several electrical features failed to work when activated, including the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and the fuel tank button. the contact also stated that the passenger side air bag warning indicator constantly illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the failure mileage was unknown.
Power ports keep blowing fuses, rear hatch quit opening, engine surging, speedometer bouncing, temperature gauge sometimes bounces, white cloud of exhaust sometimes, a/c don't blow cold even when charged
There is an apparent issue with the steering column causing the airbag to not function. it is also causing all of the control switches on the steering wheel to not function properly, including the cruise control. it came on when set but then wouldn't go off using the cancel button. this is a huge safety concern. the estimated cost for repair is $1700.
On several occasion's the engine would just cut out altogether while driving. a couple of times i have even smelled fuel.
Takata recall my 2014 kia sorento suv awd engine it ried to stalled in the middle of the highway on me as i was driving on the highway at 65 mph at the exit it stopped at the light. even though i took my kia in the dealership to have a software updated (ksda) in the begining of this year 2019. i was all most in a car crash from this. becasue cars on the highway were coming my way to get off i was so scared. i called kia dealership. i was told that my truck was not on the recall list. i knew it was becasue my truck had all the symptoms. i was told to drive it to the dealership even through i express my concern that it was something wrong with the engine i was still told to drive the truck in. the person on the phone did not even care i could have been in a really bad accident as cars were drving 65mph. so i asked my husband to take it in. he did. kia said that they will look at it and let me know by the end of the day. day 1 no one called day 2 i called kiaa tech said someone will call me mid afternoon. after day 2 no one called mid afternoon of day 2 so on day 3 i had to call to see what was going on then i was told kia would replace my engine with a brand new engine not a refurbuised engine. but i dont think that will fix the problem.. i saw these recalles months before this happened for other suv's like mine. i looked everyday on the website starting in jan 2019 with my vin # nothing i am concern becasue after reserach i noticed that even though kia fixes the problems of the engine it stalked again on other customers. i am so scared to get back in that truck. i also had an appiontment schedule to fix the door locks due to recall not unlocking or locking on the recall webiste before all this engine stuff. i mention this to the kia tech which he said do not worry we will fixed that too..
Backup camera stopped working and trunk will not open with when you hit the handle
Power locks do not work properly. doors do not lock and this occurs variably. this is a safety concern as doors do not lock and i have small children. kia dealership states there are no recalls although multiple consumers report similar issues.
Exterior lighting safety issue! last night as i was driving my low beam head lamps stopped working. the led lights above the head lamps work fine, my running lower lights and my high beams all work properly. just my low beams no longer come on. had to drive with hazards on. they do not come on after trying multiple times to restart car and turning them on both while driving and while being parked. such a dangerous situation. i have read many complaints about the same issues happening! how do i fix this? i cannot believe kia has not made this a recall yet for obvious safety issues - absolutely baffling
In november of 2018 my key fob stopped working effectively. the fob will only open the front driver side door. i contacted crain kia in fort smith and spoke to tim in the service department who stated the problem could be something as simple as changing the battery in the fob. after changing the battery in the fob, the fob still would not open the passenger door or the doors in the back seat. i noticed something was wrong when the driving and the locks would click on and off as if i were using the fob. even when stationary the lock would do this. on february 27,2019 my husband took the vehicle to the service department at 7:30 am and was told this would take 2 hours. at 3:00 pm the service department has not called. my husband called and was told by tim that they were unable to fix this issue yet was charged $131.70 !!!i feel that this has been a terrible injustice. surely the mechanics knew that this was not an isolated defect from the very beginning
This vehicle has a parasitic drain issue that kia is aware of on this model. the issue was addressed for all lx, ex, limited, and sx of this vehicle except for the sxl. i have the sxl version and was told by kia it did not meet the vin requirements even though it meets the born on date and has the same issues as the others. i have had my vehicle tested by a kia master tech and it does have a parasitic drain (battery dead after vehicle sits for 48 hours) from the same drivers door switch addressed in tsb ele-069. i believe that kia has overlooked the sxl models in their recalls as my vehicle is a 2014 and has only had the sa-163a update performed (also the only one listed for my vin) and my vehicle has many of the same issues as the others have. kia addressed the issue at hand on all the others, lx, limited, ex, and sx, with nhtsa id 10109757 and kia tsb ele-069, ele-057, and sa-163. i would like to have the sxl vehicles looked into as i believe they are not getting the required tsb's addressed properly.
Ever since we took our kia for the recall service and they "fixed it" turns out the made it worse and now the engine makes a loud rattling sound, the breaks which are new have horrible performance and the electrical issues we are having with the odometer and the transmission sensors due to the recall as well but the local kia dealership that "fixed it" will not take a look at what they brok without us having to pay them for it we have had no accidents and it gets maintenance done on time.
The driver's door unlocks with the key fob or key and that's the only one. all other doors must be unlocked by hand, meaning even the unlock switch on the drivers and passengers doors don't work. you can hear something actuating, but the doors won't unlock. the back door you need to crawl from inside remove a panel to unlock the back door.
Acceleration. when i accelerate it hesitates to pick up. very dangerous as i was trying to merge into the highway or merge into a different lane it did not accelerate quickly enough and the vehicles in that lane had to brake hard as i entered that lane almost rear ending my vehicle. even if i press the gas pedal hard it does the same thing, it hesitates before speeding up. another issue is the door lock button from both driver and passenger sides work sometimes and doesn't work sometimes. even when i'm driving the doors would not lock with the auto door lock feature on when vehicle gets in motion. i have to manually push the lock button for each door and when i manually lock the doors that is when the door lock/unlock buttons will work properly. had children in the back seat and while i tried to lock the door it would not lock. had to pull the vehicle over to hand lock each door. but very dangerous either way because i can't control what kids will do in the back in middle of the highway and if i try to lock the door i won't be able to.
Simple, just like everyone else here that complained about loss of power. but i had a diagnosis both by autozone and the kia dealer. the diagnosis is: error code p0717 turbine input shaft speed sensor and wiring harness faulty due to corrosion from moisture getting in from not having adequate sealing or poor quality of rubber seal. pulling out of stores or my driveway became very damages as you could imagine and i feel the manufacturer should address any and all loss of power issue cause it can result in serious injury or death! i hope you agree and take action to help us all out please.
Driving down the highway my car died out of nowhere. it would not start again afterwards. all power shuts off and i am able to coast to a stop. this has happened a few times but becoming more frequent but still random.
Back up camera stopped working and just shows a black screen sensors still work but that is all. also when i turn the car hard right or left it sounds as though the tires are hitting the wheel well with a loud crunchy thud
Steering wheel electronic controls(speed control, radio, ). airbag light on with no collision having occurred, replaced headlights twice in last year, brake lights replaced once
I have a 2014 lx with nothing special other than heated front seats. regular ignition, 6cyl with almost 148k miles. issue 1- at approx 100k my dash started lighting up with abs, e-brake, trac, and tps lights. ebrake and tps were intermittent and only came on after it rained it seemed. after plugging it up and getting no codes i took it to the dealer june 2017 and they informed me it was no big deal but it was part of a recall for a sensor. however, kia had not provided them with the necessary tools to fix it. it's now august 2018 and i am still waiting. issue 2- at approx 130k miles my steering controls for bluetooth and radio stopped working. the radio itself works, but when attempting to seek or adjust volume with steering controls the voice command pops up. issue 3- at approx 145k cruise control stopped working. i can turn it on and set speed, but in less than a mile it disengages. i have found if i turn off the eco it works as it should. issue 4 i found today. after getting a message from a random stranger through my advertised business on the back window i was informed that i have no brake lights except for the one on top (third). i just replaced them in july after a random stranger told me that they were out. when i got the message (after making my 60 mile commute to work) i grabbed a coworker to come out and troubleshoot with me. we checked fuses and they are fine. third light works, tail lights work, turn signals and backup lights work. we took apart the tail light assembly and pulled the bulbs to check them and the bulbs are still intact (filament still completely intact) but the bulbs are charred black and the harness socket appears to have gotten extremely hot. also the bottom of the bulb is glossy like it melted.
Turn the vehicle off so i could pull in my driveway as i unlocked my gate car would not start back it was stuck in the middle of the road i had purchased a new battery and i have also bought a new starter
I was driving my 2014 kia sorento down a city street when my car completely shut off . luckily i was only going about 30 mph. it lost all power and wont restart. it showed and currently shows a red steering wheel light (i've never seen before) and a dim battery display( which battery isn't even 4 months old and all features worked long as car was in aux mode) and also check engine light is on. it was putting off a bad odor afterwards, didn't smell of oil or any other fluids sorento doesn't have any blown fuses nor did it have any service type lights on at time it shut off. it seemed to be driving fine until it shut off. no loud noise or shaking or anything have to take to dealer tomorrow had it checked for codes and isn't showing any having it towed to the dealership is my only choice
Sc147. why wasn't all the 2014 kia sorentos included in this recall. my vehicle stalled out on me today doing the same thing that this recall was for. reported it to kia and they won't do anything. my vehicle was going 55 when it lost acceleration and no power steering and the lights flashing on the dashboard with all of the warning lights on. coasted into a parking lot, thank god no other traffic was around.
Controls on steering wheel for radio, and speed control and hands free phone features stopped working correctly you press the phone button and volume goes up or down hit mute and voice command goes on dials numbers at random startling you gives strange burning smell from steering wheel . the power seat button on drivers side work on and off has been bought to dealer for problems and the say the fixes wires for seat controls twice but still have problems. when turning wheel left or right has weird sound like tires are rubbing or skidding on loose rocks thought it was tires bought new ones but still happening dealer don't know what it is.
The headlights and tail lights continuously blow the bulbs and the brake light housing looks to be brown like it overheated on the drivers side. also the steering wheel controls have a mind of there own, you push say the volume down key and the voice recognition comes on none of the buttons on the driver side seem to do what they are supposed to do on the steering wheel
While driving down an interstate highway at approximately 5:00pm on 4/26/18 the car died. first the steering locked up; all dashboard lights came on, stereo system went out and soon could not gas/brake appropriately. was able to get to side of road and have car towed to dealer.
I was driving down the interstate as i heard a loud pop so pulled over on the side of the road thinking it was my tires, as i looked at all the tires i didn't see anything so i got back in. soon as i got back in the vehicle i smelled something so i turned the car off and got out. the minute i got out of the car it engulfed in flames.. the fire report showed it was due to an electrical issue , and the entire car burnt up
My front headlights keep going out. i've owned this vehicle for 3 years. it was purchased new. this is the 3rd time i've had this problem with this vehicle. i always drive with my headlights on, regardless if it's daytime or night. sometimes the lights will function properly and other times the headlight(s) won't. i'd on occasion pop open the hood and using a closed fist, hit the top of the assembly and the light would go on.......now it will not go on no matter what i do. like i mentioned earlier, this is the 3rd time this has happened. the first 2 times i had the dealership that i purchased the vehicle at repair the problem at my cost. now i read blog pages that this is a common problem for several kia models but no safety recall has ever been issued. how can having no working headlights not be a safety issue. ??
Air bag light on, headlights will turn off when in auto mode when i use left turn signal steering wheel controls not working or work improperly ie volume control will change radio station or advance track on media back up camera will black out while still in reverse
There appears to be an electrical issue that kia won't own up to. the battery is constantly dying after being checked and is good. lights constantly go out i have replaced break lights headlights and taillights several times in last year. the airbag passenger side airbag does not go off. the steering panel does not control all functions. i am concerned this will lead to further difficulties with this vehicle.
The doors will not unlock when i press the key fob, i've tried both key fobs and they have new batteries. only the drivers door is unlocking all times.
In the past 3-4 months i have replaced my battery twice the 1st time i had my truck about 2.5yrs so i didn't think much of it but i had the same problem after replacing battery within 3-4 months battery would die i would get a boost after a few days same thing happen again. electrical system seems out of wack when i use left turn signal my headlights will go off until i turn the turn signal off, also my steering wheel controls will not operate the right feature ie i would hit mute but it will not mute but act as if it is the volume down control air bag light for passenger would come on even if no one was in the seat
I had this car for one year and i have replay the lights 7 seven times and no one can tell me why. when i'm driving at night i have to use my high beams in order to see someone needs to do something asap. i fear for my life and my kids everyday when we get in this unsafe car. the lights on but the road looks dark at night all the time it's been going on for a year now. please help me my cell [xxx] and my email address [xxx] thank u information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I purchased a 2014 kia sorento lx brand new from the dealer. i have maintained all necessary work and mostly done at authorized dealers. in may 2017 while driving home my instrument panel went out. unable to see speed, safety warning lights, gas etc... i took it to two different kia service locations to trace problem. they found a wire shorted to ground on the trailer hitch wiring which came with vehicle. they cut the wires to trailer harness and this issue also damaged my remote starter. they replaced the blown fuse with a larger fuse and said it was all set. however it happened again on 09/29/17. this time when i parked my car and tried to start again, it wouldn't come out of park so i had it towed to dealer. it is out of warranty now but they are not willing to fix this issue which is over $3,000 to fix. there is a few feet of burned and melted wiring that i have pictures of, unsure of exact wiring, but it connected to the wiring trailer hitch harness. it was apparently close to catching on fire. since i owned the vehicle other odd electrical issues have happened, including blown headlights and brake lights on about 8 occasions. i only found one recall relating to the trailer hitch wiring harness #16v862000 however it does not include my year vehicle. in my opinion, this is a very unsafe condition and safety concern that kia needs to research further for possible other recalls.
Vehicle frequently will not start and a message pops up saying: " battery discharge warning" "please use the system when the ignition is on". it takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes before the car finally starts. kia said they didn't know what it was, but it has happened again today.
When you put the key in the ignition to start the car,it has power but will not start you have to keep on turning the switc until it ingages or put you foot on the brake while the ignition switch is on and take it out of park and put it in gear then put it back in park and it will crank.this is always when you first crank it .it is always sitting still.
My rearview camera works when it wants to. (it doesnt work more than it actually works). the controls on the steering wheel are scrambled ex. i pree the volume up or down, and the voice command activates, i can't even mute through the buttons etc. the electrical problem also causes the tail lights to work/not work and constantly have to change the bulbs because of the burnout. i've been pulled over several times for this. the other issue is that now the airbag light has come on, so i don't know if that's a general malfunction or a result of the electrical problem. also, the a/c doesnt work
My 2014 kia sorento airbag warning light came on without being involved in any sort of accident. after that the controls on the steering wheel also started malfunctioning. this seems to be a common complaint of kia owners.
I was driving on the highway and when i came to a point where i slowed all the way down my engine froze. luckily it restarted but as soon as it did there was this terrible sound like a big rock was flying around in my engine. also no check engine lights came on so there was no warning. also the a/c stopped working about 1 yr ago. i had freon put in and it stop working about 6 months ago.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. on several occasions, the key fob failed to properly operate the hatch and would open or close independently without warning. on one occasion, the contact had to manually open the hatch and the hatch independently closed. the contact sustained a head injury due to the failure. medical attention was not required. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to have the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 22,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. the contact stated that the engine seized while driving 80 mph. the vehicle was towed to a dealer (the kia store, 5325 preston hwy, louisville, ky 40213, (888) 214-1809) where it was diagnosed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution other than the dealer replacing the part. in addition, the dealer replaced the ignition switch per an unknown recall. the contact had two keys and the dealer later provided one key, stating that the contact would need to pay for the second key. the failure mileage was not available.
I received a recall letter #17v224 on my kia. i recently took it back to the kia dealship i leased it from and service department ran a test on it and changed the oil which was changed in april. i was advise i need to buy a cabin air filter of $60.00. which i can't afford because i'm on short term on my job.i have complain about rattle noise from the engine and sounds from the bearing or axle. i lately been having problems with air blowing and only one aux plug work. i always having to get tires fix and aired up. my sister was killed last year in a suv that had a recall on it same as my kia does and this kindy have me nervous of driving my kia but this is my only transportation. i asking for any help to resolve this i make my payments and need a reliable ride for me and my kids and mother.
Airbag safety indicator light remains on with passenger sitting on the seat: at 80,000 miles i started having problems with my passenger airbag safety indicator light. when the seat is occupied, the warning airbag light, comes on and remains on. i contacted kia and was told it was no longer under warranty. this happened at first for a long period of time, and now it appears to be happening intermittently. short in the electrical system. since 60,000 miles i have had a short in the elecrical system of my vehicle. i have taken it to 2 different places to have it investigated and neither mechanic could trace the cause of the short. i have had blown fuses, non-working headlamps, front and back. no one could find the short. i keep spare fuses with me at all times now, and 100% of the time, the right rear brake light is not operational. i contacted kia car pros in carson, california and they told me that any warranty coverage had expired at 60,000 miles. defective auto locks my right rear passenger door will no longer open and will no longer permit ingress or egress into the back seat. the key fob will turn the locks to the open position but you still cannot open the door under any circumstances. periodically, the door locks will go crazy and make up and down movements while the car is being driven. occasionally, the right front passenger door will lock and not open, but then it opens. now the right rear passenger door is permanently stuck in the locked position. kia car pros always finds some excuse for not repairing the door under warranty. i believe it is defective and they should bear the expenses.
I was driving 70 mph down highway when car shutdown and sterling locked, unable to control vehicle. come to find out next few days it was the accelator that caused it. i had no control and almost got killed by a 18 wheeler driving in next lane.
The vehicle was in motion. random blind spot blinking or sound when making a right turn. repeated visits to stevenson kia. showed video of problem. technician observed problem case #t3038955. dealer says they can,t do anything to solve problem. safety hazard when monitor sounds or blinks when there is no obstruction
Passenger door locks do not unlock. they do not unlock with key fob, they also do not unlock using the unlock button on the drivers door. even pulling the handle to open from the inside does not work, they have to each be individually manually unlocked, which mean i have to crawle in through the drivers door across to unlock front passenger door and then into the back to unlock those doors to let my 3 kids in. if we were in an accident it would take an extraordinary amount of time to safely free them. this is all the time when car is in park, when it's off and when it's running. this problem was progressive, at first just occasionally would not work, over time it has happened more and more frequently and now its always like this, for at least 6 months locks have not worked at all. i have taken it into kia and was told they could not do anything without charging me $150-$300 just to see if they locks really aren't working, i will not pay to prove this to them, and they refuse to even watch me do it unless i pay them. burglar alarm also stopped working when this first started.
I have two major safety hazards going on with my vehicle that i fear for the safety of my 4 children and wife when we're driving on the highway, and other fast roads. the first issue is the electrical. it first started back around 40,000 miles when i took my kia to a kia dealership in naperville, il and they told me both low beams were out, so they replace them. ever since, i've been replacing these bulbs every 3-6 months because they keep blowing out while driving and it's against the law to use high beams, so i'm driving in pitch black. now, just 3months ago, both of my brake lights go out, at the same time. three years ago my back up camera stopped working, and hasn't worked since. at 57k miles my engine was recalled for engine failures, ad within the last 6 months i've experienced stalling, stuttering, knocking while driving on high ways, at red lights, in traffic. furthermore, in september 27, 2019 my engine oil was completely undetectable on the dip stick when i took it in for a routine oil change at 99,664 miles. also, back at 64,977 miles during routine service, it was low. with these concerns, i took my kia in today to the gerald kia north aurora, il, they ran diagnostics and said everything was perfect. they said they cannot explain why my bulbs keep burning out. the tech manager also stated that the stalling and knocking in my engine is because my engine had no oil in it. he checked for leaks, and didn't find any leaks. my last oil change at a jiffy lube, they told me the same thing at 99,664 miles, it was almost dry. at todays service, mileage is 102,554. that means 5 quarts of oil burned up in 2,890 miles or most likely way sooner because after 1.5 months of the oil change i started experienced stalling, knocking, stuttering in the engine, so that must have been at only 1000-1500 miles. i put in a claim with kia consumer affairs, but i'm not satisfied.
