On december 24th, around 9:30 at night, i was driving south on i25 (highway) toward denver at approximately 70 mpg. my family, including my wife, 2 boys and mother-in law were passengers. the temperature was approximately 40 degrees and i was driving straight. with no warning, a large thunderous boom sounded, similar to a gunshot. the sunroof had basically exploded. we did not know what happened as we did not go under a bridge or any other structure that could have dropped debris on the car to create such damage. i pulled over at the next exit to examine the damage and to check on the passengers. my mother in law sustained a minor cut due to the glass. there was no sign of debris or a possible bullet that could have come from a gun shot....the loud noise sounded like a gun shot. the sunroof now had a huge 2 foot diameter hole and shattered glass was located throughout the passenger compartment. i was only 4 miles away from my home, so the attached pictures were taken from my garage the next morning.
Purchased a used 2014 kia sorento showing 106k miles. test drive with the salesman for about 6 miles various types of roads. very impressed with the car, performed well. purchased it saturday afternoon just prior to the used car dealer closing. after paperwork and plates done, drove it toward home. about 4 miles from dealer (interstate highway) saw the temperature guage climbing into the hot area. no other errors or lights came on. let off on gas to pull over and temp guage came down to normal. continued with caution thinking this was a faulty guage or sender unit. limped home slowly. noticed going up hills and pulling hard temp would climb. letting off gas temp would drop to normal. long story short got the car to a very reputable and experienced garage. engine couldn't be repaired economically. dealer did offer money back. as much as i didn't want to, wound up having to install another used low milage v6 engine. during the month in the garage i had done much research & digging & talking often with the very experienced mechanic in charge of the job. coolant was low and all but two of the head bolts were more than finger tight !! how this engine was running was beyond me, it was! during all this research i read of many head gasket problems and leaks had been reported. the thing that was really concerning was the number of engine fires that had no real cause reported afterwards. my concern is if i had continued driving this car hard, could a leaky head gasket cause a fire under the hood? i learned from the mechanic all these head bolts stripped the threads from the block. i also learned there is another 1.5 inches of unused threads inside the block! my suspicion is kia skimped on the length of all these head bolts to save a buck putting the reliability and safety at the customers risk. is my safety at risk? where is my recall for this car engine? 12/09/2019 dd.
The car was running perfectly fine never had an issue with it. it randomly started knocking/ making a loud noise from the engine and shut off as i was d with my two kids. when i tried to start it back up it continually shut off, it would not stay running. it was running at normal temperature when i pulled over and turned the car off then turned the ignition back on then it showed hot on the temperature gauge. this all started in san bernardino california. i did not understand what the problem was, so i started looking up problems with a kia sorento and found this form. On saturday 9/28 - i happen to notice some leaking near the front of my sorento near the right wheel ... i opened the hood and notice a leak all over that side of the car... took the car to mechanic on 9/29 and the mechanic stated oil is mixing into antifreeze ... went to 2 mechanics and both directed me to go to dealer as this repair should be covered under warranty since it is a serious and possibly costly defect...
Power ports keep blowing fuses, rear hatch quit opening, engine surging, speedometer bouncing, temperature gauge sometimes bounces, white cloud of exhaust sometimes, a/c don't blow cold even when charged
Vehicle was in motion when strange odor detected then smoke from engine area was noticed. pulled car into parking lot and shut down engine because thought may be overheating. none of guages reflected this, however, there was no other logical explanation. was goin to open hood when noticed flames. in matter of minutes, vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. was a total loss.
While driving car in motion and without any warning lights on dashboard, car lost complete power. no steering, very hard braking and then all warning lights started flashing i had to struggle to get car off the road. i had just turn off the thruway going 60mph and in about 1.5 miles going appox 40 mph the incident happened. something simular like this happened once before when the car was parked and i went to start it when all the dash warning lights started flashing and car would not start.i had it towed to dealer and they did not find what was wrong but car was ok until this recent incident.
Takara recall - while in the middle of driving at federal way wa, the entire engin shut off while i was middle of the road at havey traffic and the steering wheel was lock so i couldn't turn or move. and, i almost had an accident, so i took my car to dealership but, they couldn't find a problem and said come back again if same problem coming back later, but i am not feel safety to drive this car.
Exterior lighting safety issue! last night as i was driving my low beam head lamps stopped working. the led lights above the head lamps work fine, my running lower lights and my high beams all work properly. just my low beams no longer come on. had to drive with hazards on. they do not come on after trying multiple times to restart car and turning them on both while driving and while being parked. such a dangerous situation. i have read many complaints about the same issues happening! how do i fix this? i cannot believe kia has not made this a recall yet for obvious safety issues - absolutely baffling
The engine blew after a few days when warrenty expired after a dealer sent the car home saying unless we could prove or show a maintenance history of the car they would not do warrenty work. the car was bought used so we could not provide a long repair or maintenace record of the car. however we bought a extenended warranty that was not entered correctly in the system and the car was still sent cleared as being ok to drive even though the engine blew within a few days of dealer service in offallon il.every sorrento other than this year has been recalled for engine problems so why not ours.
I'm worried about this model of car because are burning, in my car i had being experiencing some smell like something is heating or burning when i accelerate in passing gear mode then i feel like a bad smell inside the car then it disappear, the thing is that i've being seeing some issues about this model that they start with spontaneous combustion on the road. can you please verify if my car doesn't had an electrical part report.
On january 6 2019 our panoramic sun roof suddenly shattered on our 2014 kia sorento. this happened while traveling at highway speed on interstate 20 in alabama.
Intermittent door lock & tailgate issues ... sometimes they function properly and sometimes not. problem is i spend the entire day at the dealers and the problem of course does not happen ... so they can't diagnose or fix the problem ! they tell me to bring it back when it happens again ! so it happens again and repeat the previous scenario. wtf ... i want this issue fixed ! this issue happens when stopped, parked, day, night, sunny, rainy it does not matter ! why can't the dealers computer find this intermittent problem?
Car stopped operating while driving down interstate, and won't restart
I was in my car around 5:45 am on dec. 23,2018, in the driveway of our place in the country (400 0akwood drive huntsville tx 77320) the car was running and in park. i was checking messages and emails for maybe 7 to 10 minutes when a flash of light made me look up. thats when i seen flames coming from the front of the car. i turned the engine off and tryed to leave the car but the door didn't open. it was locked and the electric door unlock button was no longer working. i pulled on the manuel unlock and was able to get out of car. my neighbor was out side coming to help but i asked him to call fire dept. he informed me that was already done. i ran a got my garden hose and poured water on the fire but fire was way to big and hot for a garden hose so i sprayed the grass around the car and put out the fires that stared when parts of the hot car exploded and landed away from the car.
While sitting in our 2014 kia sorento lx awd, 2.4l 4cyclider gdi; the car was idling in our driveway when he noticed flames coming from under the hood of the car. he was bearly able to get out of the car before it was totally engulfed in flames and consequently burned till there was nothing left but the frame.
Backup camera malfunction. lines show up on screen but visual is black. this issue is mentioned on many kia forums as well.
Driving at approx 70 mph on the highway the engine began making a faint knocking sound which very quickly turned into a more rapid hectic knocking sound. as i was exiting the freeway the sound continued to intensify and the engine knocking then became extremely loud almost completely disabling the vehicle on the highway. this happened very quickly leaving me very little time to react to the problem. this was due to a connecting rod bearing failure.
The steering column rattles as the vehicle is in motion.
Acceleration. when i accelerate it hesitates to pick up. very dangerous as i was trying to merge into the highway or merge into a different lane it did not accelerate quickly enough and the vehicles in that lane had to brake hard as i entered that lane almost rear ending my vehicle. even if i press the gas pedal hard it does the same thing, it hesitates before speeding up. another issue is the door lock button from both driver and passenger sides work sometimes and doesn't work sometimes. even when i'm driving the doors would not lock with the auto door lock feature on when vehicle gets in motion. i have to manually push the lock button for each door and when i manually lock the doors that is when the door lock/unlock buttons will work properly. had children in the back seat and while i tried to lock the door it would not lock. had to pull the vehicle over to hand lock each door. but very dangerous either way because i can't control what kids will do in the back in middle of the highway and if i try to lock the door i won't be able to.
My vehicle was manufactured in the georgia plant but was not part of the 2 previous recalls, even though it was manufactured that the same time, because it has the lambda 3.3l v6 engine. after all the troubles i have had with the vehicle, locks dont unlock, engine is failing, and now there is a problem with the valves. a valve can be heard tapping in my cars engine, it sounds and feels (vibrations can be felt by hand) that it is almost certainly in bank 2 (towards front of car) almost directly below/behind the high pressure fuel pump. now hypothetically if i were on the highway and the valve dropped, consequently punching a whole in the cylinder head, forcing oil through the whole, and igniting it, i would think that it wouldnt take more than a few moments for the flames to catch the high pressure fuel pump and very shortly after engulfing the entire engine and vehicle in flames. i am also sure their are likely many other scenarios that are possible, but with all the engine problems my vehicle has been having while still under 80k miles. this one seems pretty terrifying to me, especially with 3 young children in the back with doors that dont unlock! and of course kia is too busy trying to twist the situation and blame consumers to even c oi nsider doing the right thing and standing behind their own products. i have hardly driven my vehicle at all since the engine started failing in june, and i believe it has always had this noise (dealership had insisted it was the gdi normal noise when i purchased the vehicle)to last week o happened to nj price the nk oise getting louder and asked a mechanic what is could be. that mechanic stated it definately sounded like a valve.
Recall : it isn't on recall list but having the same problems the other recalls for same vehicle and year. was driving and engine stalled on the loop, i was almost hit by multiple cars. i finally got the kia to start and it began to make loud tapping noise and not letting rpms reach 3k. nobody seems to want to help since the car only has 87k miles and now the engine is failing for no reason. i believe if the engine is doing the same thing as the other recalls, why haven't there been a recall on this kia.?? i've tried calling dealers and etc nobody is helping me.
Hello i bought this car last year ago i have an issue with the motor , you need to fill 2 liters on a week i need to know what's going on regard is not normal 2 by 4 liter equal 8 in a month is too much please give me more dental about it thank you so much
Engine recall my vehicle is in the dealership for the engine recall i also had to have the steering wheel replaced 2 times due to wiring or button malfunctions. along with the usb port on the stereo. the issue happened again after the warranty coverage ended for that part and they refuse to fix it again after warranty even though it has been a known issue. the usb port comes loose constantly and will not work- they want me to buy a whole new radio to correct this. the volume button on the steering wheel has had issues in the past and now no longer works... again they want me to get a new steering wheel to correct this...
Abs and traction control light goes on and off as i am driving. sometimes, the speedometer moves quickly over the incorrect speeds so i have no clue what speed i am going. it's only a four year old car with 56,000 miles. also, same vehicle has issue with the gas tank door. cannot open using the switch inside the car. must use the emergency pull inside a trunk compartment.
Turn the vehicle off so i could pull in my driveway as i unlocked my gate car would not start back it was stuck in the middle of the road i had purchased a new battery and i have also bought a new starter
Today, i was putting my son in his car seat behind the drivers seat. i had placed the key in the front seat while putting him in the carseat. when i had shut the back driver side door, the car automatically locked. every door of our vehicle locked automatically while my 2 year old son was inside the car. we had to call a tow company to come as an emergency to unlock our car. it took them 30 minutes to even get to our location. when the car was unlocked my son was hot to the touch and sweating. the temperature outside was 72 degrees. this is a safely hazard for the fact that the vehicle should not lock on its own while not in motion if any at all. if it had been any hotter during this day, i would have had to break the car window just to save my son from becoming a heat related casualty and going to the hospital or anything worse.
The car is moving proceeds to come to a crawl and stop i have a video and the dealership is clueless. this has happened multiple times
The rear hatch door will not open.
Had some rain come through, i got in my car and noticed that the seats were damp and the dashboard was damp as well. so i did a little investigation, looked on top my roof , and it appeared that part of thepanaramic sunroof was shattered. i haven't had any rocks hit my car, i literally drive my car from home to work. i haven't had this car more than 3 months it is in great condition with all the dings and whistles so to speak and only 58,000 miles on it. i bought it used. i would love to know how on earth this could shatter out of no where? i just had to pay a $500.00 dollar deductible, for something i didn't cause to my car. i am glad the whole thing didn't shatter with me and my child in the car.
9/15/15- brought in for misfiring and rough idling to lupient kia brooklyn park, mn. 11/19/15 - brought in for rough idling and engine stalling while driving to lupient. cleaned engine grounds. 12/30/15 - lupient - brought in for misfires and cel on; replaced injector and computer. 7/13/16 - lupient - brought in cel on, starts hard, idles rough; replaced injector (same injector); 8/18/16 - lupient - towed in - won't start cel on; repair pin tension; 8/17/16 lupient - was in for the same problem and was told that i didn't put the gas cap on tight enough. 1/11/17 - lupient - towed in would not start; lights and horn were flashing. towed from home driveway. was told it was the key fob battery. 6/12/17 - barnet kia - towed in; car stalled and would not restart. stalled at red stop light left turn lane. could not replicate the problem and care started up on 6/14/17 fine. told to come get my car. 7/17/17 - barnet kia - vehicle towed; stalled at red stop light left turn lane. have no idea what is going to happen because no one is contacting me from kia.
January 5, 2017, i was on a 2 lane highway in washington headed home from a day of shopping and medical appointments. i was 3 exits from my home when i head a loud bang like a gun shot. i swerved because i thought it was a tire or my windshield. before i could pull off of the highway i heard and saw that the cloth cover over my sunroof was shaking and slapping against the wind. i pulled off the highway and checked my sun roof. my sun roof exploded! there was not a car in front of me or next to me and i know nothing had hit it. my sun roof randomly exploded! i drove straight to the kia dealership. the technician tried to tell me and show me where he said a rock had hit it. he stuck his pen into a starburst and tried to tell me that a rock had hit me.
Airbag safety indicator light remains on with passenger sitting on the seat: at 80,000 miles i started having problems with my passenger airbag safety indicator light. when the seat is occupied, the warning airbag light, comes on and remains on. i contacted kia and was told it was no longer under warranty. this happened at first for a long period of time, and now it appears to be happening intermittently. short in the electrical system. since 60,000 miles i have had a short in the elecrical system of my vehicle. i have taken it to 2 different places to have it investigated and neither mechanic could trace the cause of the short. i have had blown fuses, non-working headlamps, front and back. no one could find the short. i keep spare fuses with me at all times now, and 100% of the time, the right rear brake light is not operational. i contacted kia car pros in carson, california and they told me that any warranty coverage had expired at 60,000 miles. defective auto locks my right rear passenger door will no longer open and will no longer permit ingress or egress into the back seat. the key fob will turn the locks to the open position but you still cannot open the door under any circumstances. periodically, the door locks will go crazy and make up and down movements while the car is being driven. occasionally, the right front passenger door will lock and not open, but then it opens. now the right rear passenger door is permanently stuck in the locked position. kia car pros always finds some excuse for not repairing the door under warranty. i believe it is defective and they should bear the expenses.
I drove my kia to the end of the driveway to get the mail. upon shutting the door, my rear windshield exploded outward. i contacted kia and spoke with jose and was given a case number. i was instructed to take it to a kia dealership so they could determine if the windshield was defective. my husband took it to spitzer kia and after waiting 4 hours was told they wouldn't cover it. shawn was the mechanic that looked at the windshield and took pictures. pictures were sent to steven rupert, field technical rep for kia. mr. rupert made this decision via email to shawn, per shawn. i contacted kia once again and was told they go back what is reported and there was nothing they could do.
Approximately one month ago my check engine light came on (p2098) in my 2014 kia sorento ex v6 gdi with about 11,000 miles on the odometer. i took it in to kia. they stated it was a kinked wire. last week, check engine light returns (p2098). it was checked this time and a reason could not be found. a techline folder was opened and it was researched with kia engineers who said they are aware of this problem in other sorentos. they are searching for the answer to the problem and i am to continue to take my sorento to the dealer when the check engine light turns on so that they have a record of it. they are supposed to let us know when a solution has been found so it can be repaired. i just don't know how long this is going to go on before a fix is in place.
Upon opening the driver's door, it hit my lefy eybrow due to the unfinsihed and sharp upper right corner of the door; i was taken to the emergency room and had 9 steches
The front passenger and the the two back door as well as the back (entry to crgo area) locks do not open with any device....only the drivers door unlocks., the aforementioned have to be opened by hand.. they do close when the key is in ignition and the drive or reverse is engaged, but they do not reopen when pressing open latch at drivers side., this could be a safety problem when one needs to open the door from inside or outside. had vehicle checked at kia dealer in mississippi and was told that all three actuators were gone and that drivers was on the way out. this to me is a total defect....many consumer complaints have been addressed about door locks on some kias. there is no reason for 3 to go out at the same time. the car is not in warranty and the cost to repair was over $800.00 i believe that this should be a recall item and that kia should have to pay for the work.
