We have classified the 38 complaints from 2013 Kia Sorento about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Head light keep burning.. the passenger one.. lady 3 months i have changed three times the head light
Lighting has went out multiple times, both headlights and now turn signals. when headlight go out, it often melts the light bulb socket and burns wires. when the turn signal went out, the bulb burning out caused the computer to short out, by design according to the service technician. lights randomly go out without warning, often flickering, especially when hitting bumps.
The right side passenger headlamp continues to burn out frequently and the components look melted. in searching this situation online, there are a lot of reports of the same thing happening although kia doesn't accept responsibility. i am currently driving with only 1 headlight, which isn't safe.
My 2013 kia sorento's headlight and rear brake light continuously goes out. first the driver side headlights go out and then the passenger side follows shortly after leaving me with no light which is a huge safety hazard for my family. the last time i replaced them the driver side headlight and driver brake light went out 4 days later.
I've only had this used vehicle for one year and within that one year of having to hear sorrento i've had to change my headlights and brake lights more than three times each. i took it to my local kia dealer and showed them four different lightbulbs that were burnt on the bottom of the bulb that you put into the port. port were not burnt just the bottom part of the lightbulb not the prong just the bottom part of the lightbulb was burnt. i asked for them to do an electrical diagnostic for me to see what was wrong and why my light bulbs kept burning on the bottom which in result made my headlights and break lights not work. (not all at the same time. i replace one then a few weeks to a month later a different one would the same.) but all they did was charge me over $100 to replace the lightbulbs that we're not working at the time so they can have it on file which one were replaced and how long it takes for them to burn out again. mind you these lightbulbs do not have any warranty and i did ask for them to do a diagnostic electrical diagnostic to find out what the problem was and they did not do it they said they needed to see if these ones would burn out. so basically i had to pay over $100 for some lightbulb that won't be replaced because there's no warranty on them within two weeks to a month from now even though i showed them when i had purchased the lightbulbs that was on my car already that needed to be replaced and the lightbulb before the lightbulb and that they all had the same exact markings on them. why they would not do a diagnostic i don't know they just probably want more money.
My headlamps have gone out unexpectedly several times causing a safety issue. when i attempted to replace what i believed to be a blown bulb i find the bulb is fine and the socket or harness does not keep a good connection. the bulb will come on and off with vibration. i had the wiring and/or harness replaced multiple times.
We are having to replace low beam lights every 2 to 3 months which also lead to the passenger side low beam wiring harness to burn up and also led to burning up the brake lights , we replaced the burned wiring harness and replaced low beam lights to led lights with fans built into the lights after 2 weeks replacing led lights they also burned out. kia really needs to look at this issue and step up and fix and replace this safety concern.
This car has at least 8 recalls on it now, not including past recalls. this vehicle has stopped on me without any warnings in the middle of the street while traveling with my family. the reason ot stopped was due to a malfuctioned engine that was on recall. my turning signals lights go out without warning , this has happened while on the highway. this is also due to light wiring thats on recall. kia had me take my car to a dealership to get the malfunctioning engine fixed. the car is still doing the same thing and has list it speed while i was on the highway. i feel like it will cut off on me at any giving time. i just got another recall leter that states that there is an issue with the replacement part they put on my engine. i am a working mom with kids and depend onmy transportation to live. i am scared thattbis vehicle will stop on me and my kids on the highway or street.
We have had to replace headlights, blinkers and brake lights way too frequently. the 1st time the wiring harness was melted on the passenger side headlight (electrical issue/possible fire hazard). the lights go out during city and well as interstate driving. sometimes we can adjust the connector and the lights will come back on. this wouldn't be as much of an issue if it were the bulbs needing replacing, but this is faulty wiring. we have to replace brake lights 2-3 times a year. we've had to replace both turning light harnesses. kia needs to take responsibility and have a recall on the headlight, blinker and brake light wiring. we have to replace brake lights 2-3 times a year.
I purchased my 2013 kia sorento in march 2013...i have always kept up maintenance. i started having issues ( exterior headlights/taillights going out constantly and having to replace, car stalling/stopping in traffic, abs//traction control & downhill assit lights coming on, air conditioner, fuel system). i have read many complaints online under nhtsa, and it appears that i am having many of the same issues as others. my vehicle is nearing 100,000 miles (98,800), and i hope that all these issues i and others have had can be resolved by kia. i have only received two recalls on my vin #- one being the headlamp low beam connector wiring harness dated 4-22-2019. when i took it in to the kia dealership, they found no problems?? the other one was dated august 14, 2019 regarding airbag clock spring assembly extending warranty coverage to 15 years/unlimited mileage. thanks for checking into my problems.
Low beam head lights melt to the wiring, causing to take to the shop for repair. car not starting, their is a short somewhere. i know 2 owners of the same make and model and the same issue/
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sorento. while driving at night, the headlights failed to illuminate. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the contact resumed driving to her residence using the high beam headlights. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness of the headlights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
Passagers headlight continued to go out; have replaced wiring and bulb 4 times. the dealership have also replaced the wiring . at this point , i don't know what to do.. there is a problem with the headlight with the kia 2013 sorento.
Headlights burn out, replaced several times and even burns out same day, some part of headlight, lightbulb attachment also melted and was replaced several times. brought car to different mechanics regarding issue and all reply its an electrical issue with many kia sorentos, but when you call kia they say its not their problem. also, driver heated seat stopped working, mechanics unable to find issue said it was electrical short, then seat went on by itself and was unable to turn it off, seat became severely too hot to drive car. lights blew out while driving, sometimes while car was just turned off, parked in front of my house and even once right away at the mechanics. and most recently, issue with battery. replaced battery after car wouldnt start, still had issues, replaced alternator, still had problems. replaced connectors. its ridiculous. and lights still go out and melt.
I've had issues with my headlights on my 2013 kia sorento. took my truck to the dealership back in june of 2018 and was told it wold be about $650 for a new headlight assembly because it wasn't covered under warranty and it wasnt apart of kia's recall, that was for the driver headlight. now i'm having the same issue with my passenger headlight. the headlight wires are melting causing the low beams to go out. i have to buy new headlights bulbs every two weeks. i am worried this is going to catch fire eventually. the lights will go on and off. sometimes i have only my driver lights and sometimes i have both then it just goes out.last week, october 21- 27, i had driven to work and had only one light. no one could fix it. i had to drive home from my job with my emergency lights on. and i had only one headlight i was ran off the road twice. the light issue, melting wires, is an ongoing issue.
Headlights wires are melting causing the low and high beams to melt as well. i have to buy new wiring harness and headlights every two weeks. i am worried this is going to catch fire eventually. the lights will go on and off. sometimes i have only high beams, or low beams, sometimes one of each, but never all working, then they will just turn off. this past wednesday, october 17, 2018 i had driven to church and had only one light, an hour later i went to get in my car and i had no lights at all. no one could fix it. i had to drive home from my church with my emergency lights flashing. i was ran off the road numerous times and almost rammed in the rear of my vehicle. it was myself and my 10-year-old son in the vehicle. the light issue, melting wires, is an ongoing issue.
Headlamp wire harness melted. left low beam headlamp bulb and connector was burnt/melted. i paid the dealership to fix this. i am concerned it is a fire hazard, and also a safety hazard if it goes out again.
The driver side low beam headlight continuously malfunctions. i have had the headlamp socket and connector replaced twice - august 2017 (61,785 miles) and january 2018 (69,938 miles). i have replaced the bulb only twice, also - july 2017 and december 2017. the problem has re-occurred a third time and appears to be similar to many other complaints about various kia model vehicles. the issue with my 2013 kia sorento occurs intermittently at first, each time while under normal driving conditions. it has occurred while driving on city surface streets and while driving on interstate highways. eventually the headlight just quits working completely and i am forced to have service performed. this problem seems to occur about every 4 months and creates unsafe driving conditions, especially when it occurs while the vehicle is in operation during rainy, low-light or nighttime conditions.
The low beam headlights won't work. the high beams are fine. took to the dealer and they said that it was a malfunction in this model headlights but it's not covered and it was the only year they used these headlights. so they told me it's going to cost $2000 to fix my headlights.
Low beam headlights quit working. the connection plugs completely corroded. happened to both sides.
There is a short in my head light on the drivers side .
I have problems with the headlight passenger side that wire always burn and i had to replace every month
While driving down the highway at night i lost both head lights. took to dealer it was determined that they have a burnt wire harness. spoke to kia, kia says no recall listed for my vehicle year.
Passenger headlight failed. took to dealership. they state the wiring harness is "melted" and "there's no repair or pigtail replacement, you have to replace the whole assembly." entire headlight assemblies from kia are $600. the vehicle just hit 61k miles. manufacturer's warranty wouldn't cover this issue. so i took it home and took it apart. there is voltage to the headlight, and there is voltage to the headlight plug. the ground side of the headlight plug looks overheated, the plastic molex connector is bored out and shows corrosion. when the bulb is plugged in, it works sometimes. i have to mess with it. this is obviously a defect. i see lots of other complaints.
One of my tail lights went out. right after i changed it, my driver side head light went out. i changed the bulb and it worked for a short time. i did this 2 more times in 2 months.then i had a repair shop change the bulb and they said the connector was melted and it was unsafe. they installed a new connector and bulb. within 2 weeks the passenger side went out. the connector was also melted on that side. this went on with the tail lights and headlights for months. i finally had to get a new headlight assembly on the driver side. within 2 weeks the passenger side went out again, and is still out at this time because the connector is melted and no one wants to fix it since it's a fire hazard.
I started my car and turned my headlights on since it was night time. my headlights would not work. all the electrical components flickered on and off. the next day, we replaced the passenger side low beam light, believing it needed to be replaced. once the replacement bulb was placed, the connector and wires began to smoke. all the electrical components would not work. we removed the bulb from the connector and all lights worked. i have not been able to replace the passenger side low beam headlight due to the connector melting. this is a fire hazard. i have seen many people complain about this problem, but cannot understand why there is not a recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sorento. while attempting to open the rear passenger door, the door handle fractured and detached from the vehicle. the contact also stated that the front passenger side headlamp and electrical component melted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the headlamp was repaired; however, the dealer declined to repair the door handle free of charge. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
Headlights and brakelights. keep shorting out. had inspected by mechanic. he stated that it was arcing and causing the lights to malfunction. constant replacing of headlights and brake lights. went to replace headlight again and the wire harness that holds the bulb was completely burned. put electrical tape around it. both headlights are not 100%. the remaining headlight is hit or miss operationally. driving home on the highway, when i realized that my headlights weren't working. had to use hibeams for the rest of the trip.
Passenger side headlight went out, when i went to replace it the plastic plug was melted! bought a new plug and wired it in.
Upon noticing a headlight out and the car parked and off in my driveway, i went to change the bulb and noted that the wire to the lamp had melted and started to melt the lamp itself. i had the other headlight on this same car do the same thing. the first time the headlamp assembly had to be replaced the car had approximately 45,000 miles on it and was about 2 years old.

Headlights and taillights need to be replaced regularly. most recently the headlight would go on and off. when going to replace the bulb the light harness and bulb were melted together.
The electrical wire to the lights burned as well as the connector the battery will not stay charged nothing is on at the time the airbag light stays on continuously the car is unsafe and needs to be changed. the doors randomly lock battery will not hold a charge and there's a short somewhere in the electrical system is it a hazard to drive
Radio cuts on and off at will. mostly off. headlights go out often. both of these things happen while moving and while sitting still. it has happened while driving and sitting in the driveway.
I took t\he vehicle to a non dealer location to be inspected after having multiple issues with the headlamp assembly being faulty. upon inspection i was notified by the mechanic on duty that the wiring assembly was actually melting , a manufacturers defect. because this being a fire hazard he was unable to replace the bulbs for me and said he felt the vehicle was unsafe to drive because it would place myself, my family and others on the highway at risk. he proceeded to show me the problem. this problem has resulted in my having to replace the bulbs five times in the past on the drivers side and at least twice on the passenger side. the dealer had to replace the wiring assembly on the passenger side due to the same problem. have also provided a picture of the repair note of the problem on the opposite side of the vehicle. also providing a clip showing that according to their inspection my lights were in working order when in actuality they were not. lastly noting several electrical issues remain in addition to having to replace the battery as it is being continually drawn from due to these issues.

Driving on interstate at night at 65 mph lights flicker inside and headlights. battery warning light comes on and off several times. the vehicle has also had hard shifting around 20 to 30 mph, almost like applying brakes on slow down and an engine rev when speeding up. next night (sunday) vehicle lost all power with no warning while driving on two lane highway at night. made it off to a side road, but engine still running rough, no response to gas pedal, could not shift vehicle to park, had to hold stop button for long time to finally stop engine, lights came back on, but would not start, finally could put in park. hauled back to dealer. service replies wasn't on schedule will maybe get to it today. defective alternator on "e" order will fix all the problems. wife refuses to drive unsafe, death trap and that she would not had been able to manage safely if she would of been driving when problems shut down the vehicle. *tr
