Airbag warning light is on & they may not deploy according to the manufacturer. i find many kia models/owners report this same problem. should be covered w/a recall!, refund, etc. owners are not at fault & age or "normal wear & tear" of the vehicle is not to blame! nhtsa should have required the kia/hyundai corp. to order a recall or notify owners they'd fix this if it happened. repair is between $800-$2100+!
Have not had any problems other then having to put 2 quarts of oil in the motor every other day and it stalling to the point of almost cutting off when i start to take off. i got up put oil in the car started my day as usual, ran errands and the parked the car as usual. went to get in it the next day and the engine light was on. started to drive it and it made the sound as if it was misfiring. later that day had my mechanic look at it and he said what i thought it was plugs. so i changed the plugs and coil packs and it did not change a thing. still had that noise and when you are going down the road it will start shaking and have to gear down. called kia customer service they said it was part of the 147 recall even though it showed that it had been fixed in 2018. i explained that it shook when driven that plugs and coil packs have been changed, had to fill up on oil instead of gas and that the oil had gas in it. told me it would cost me 230 out of pocket to have it towed. next day took it too kia dealership who said i would have to wait until the motor locked up before they could do anything. finally got them to look at it and they said the motor was bad. it was not safe to drive it anymore because it could caught fire or cause an accident. but yet not part of the recall said i would have to pay for all the repairs out of pocket. not only did kia customer service and nhtsa both said it was part of the 147 recall. i am with out a vehicle and still have to pay for one that i can't even drive or get fixed.
Electrical failure of passanger side dash airbag. from dealership inspection: 'airbag light illuminated. scanned codes returned code b1764 ocs mat defect, performed test on body sensor and found no voltage going to ocs mat and srscm module, will need to replace module and mat. total $3,058.' further conversation with techanican: no physical damage, likely faulty wires or failed electrical component. unfortunately, only option to replace the passanger module. unclear if airbag will still operation is colission. owner opinion: if airbag assembly is failing in this manner, it should be recalled. otherwise, passangers are at risk. year: 2013 model: kia sorento mileage: 120548
Received extended warranty information regarding my airbag light brought this in to have the clock assembly spring reviewed and it was replaced but then was told i had to pay $2000 to have the passenger seat change to have the sensor go off.
The airbag indicator light came on while driving recently. the code appears as b1346, voltage in wiring of driver airbag. all indications are it is the clock spring mechanism in the steering column. the vehicle has only 110,475 miles.
Airbag light on. passenger seat oc mat sensor bad. only way to fix is replacing seat $2100. told airbag wont deploy unless fixed. there should be a override to force deployment if sensor goes bad. safety issue should be warrantee up to 10 years.
The airbag light stays on
My airbag warning light came on. the mechanic ran a diagnostic test and found that the clock spring needs to be replaced.
Takata recall on back locks. lock jammed on back door. door will not unlock from inside or out.. having problems with kia dealership honoring a recall that i thin should include my vehicle. there was a recall for front locks a couple of years ago that was repaired. now the back locks on the back door is doing the same thing. this is a danger to my grandchildren who sits in the back of my car. the air bag light is also malfunctioning. i have asked kia check the air bag, but told my vin number is not on the list. and that my locks are not on the recall list. these are all manufacturing problems and should be treated as such.. the vehicle is in motion most of the time when the air bag light "off" appears.. the vehicle was /is stationary when the back door lock on the driver's side will not lock or unlock, although resonds to key pad sound as though unlocked, the door remains lock. also, when door is unlocked on the inside, door will not open. car is stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sorento. while operating the vehicle, the passenger side air bag indicator remained illuminated, which was a safety concern. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 86,000. the vin was invalid.
In early may, the airbag light on my dashboard came on for no reason. my 2013 kia sorento was in park. i took the car into the local kia dealership and had the service code scanned. the code came back saying the passenger-side seat mat airbag sensor was the issue. they said there were no recalls and that the mat could malfunction if it got water on it or if electronics were placed on the passenger seat. i informed the service clerk that neither situation was happening at the time or anytime before the light illuminated. the service clerk said that kia recommended resetting the code, and he hoped it would solve the problem. the light stayed off for almost 4 months. fast forward to last week. the dashboard airbag light came on again for no reason. my car has not been in any type of accident. my passenger seat has not been in contact with water or had electrical devices resting on it. i took my sorrento in again and had them read the code. it came back with the same problem, the passenger seat mat. my car is only at 83,000 miles, and was at 79,000 when the light first came on. they quoted the repair costs at between $1500 - $2000. i have attempted to contact kia, two times, through their customer complaint option on their website, but they have not responded. they have had airbag-related recalls with several other kia models of the same year, but the sorento is not included. this is a major safety issue that should be covered under a recall. something is obviously wrong with their airbags when they go out at lower mileage. is there anything you can do to help with this matter? if i am having this problem, so are others. several people are saying the same thing on various internet sites. please help! they say my airbags will not function with the light on.
Airbag light is staying on we were told that it is the ocd mat sensor for the passenger airbag
Clock spring broke and airbags didn't deploy.
My car 2013 kia sorento burnt up !!
Airbag light won't go off; i'm told it needs a new ocs mat which requires a whole new passenger seat over 2,000. why isn't this the responsibility of the manuf to replace? 5 months past the 5-year warranty and they won't give me any discount. in my opinion, the liability should fall on the manufacturer for items like this and not the consumer (feel more like a sucker).
Driving down the highway and car cought fire. if it wasn't for the car next to us who signaled to pull over we would have been toast.

My airbag light turned on several months ago and while having a recent recall for something else taken care of they fixed the issue with the airbag. it is now on again and i am concerned for the safety of myself and passengers not knowing what the issue really is. i was given an appointment for next week to have it looked at and was not given any idea of whether this would be my expense or kis'a.
Internal short in the ocs mat sensor located in my passenger seat where there is rarely anyone sitting. this is a major safety issue that disables my entire airbag system. it's a $2100 repair that seems to be a recurring issue for kia.
The seat belt light has become illuminated due to a sensor failure in the passenger seat. this problem is well known and discussed among kia owners. the failure of the sensor causes all of the airbag system to fail and the airbags will not deploy. with the recent recalls to other kia and hyundai models, this model should be expanded to include this model.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sorento. while the contact's vehicle was idling at a stop light, another vehicle crashed into its rear. as a result, the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact sustained injuries to the head, neck, and lower back. the front passenger sustained injuries to the head, neck, and arm that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an automotive shop. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000.
Was told by the dealer that the passenger side front seat sensor needs to be replaced. after researching it turns out there are multiple people having the same issue with this model and various years. the airbags will not deploy unless it is fixed.
Air bag light is on code b1361
Driving down the road on a summer road trip, the airbag light on the instrument panel illuminated and remained lit. the vehicle had just reached 100,000 miles and is only three years old. at the end of the trip, the vehicle was taken into the dealer. they ran a diagnostic and pulled a code relating to the passenger airbag sensor mat. they inspected all the connections and determined that a connection must have come loose and reset the airbag light. less than a week later, the airbag light once again illuminated and remained lit. it was taken into the dealer again and this time a thorough inspection was performed and the defect was said to be with the airbag sensor mat and that it was not covered under recall, and that the vehicle was past the 60,000 mile electrical warranty. the only option for replacement was to purchase a brand new seat, with sensor, at the cost of the owner, for $2200. this defect is costly to the owner, especially on a "like-new" vehicle, and is a major safety concern since this defect prevents the deployment of the passenger airbag in the case of an accident.
Airbag light on
Airbag warning light has came on while driving down highway. deal advises that it is a sensor and that it is over $400 to repair. have read numerous complaints that this is an extremely common problem with the 2013 kia sorento. vehicle is just out of factory warranty due to mileage (3,000 over). vehicle as never been involved in any type of collision.
Takata recall- the mercedes dealer where i live (lancaster, ny 14086) has been waiting 2 years for parts. cold climates are being serviced last if not at all. i also have a home in cape coral fl. where i plan to eventually make a permanent move. they are servicing the hot. humid climates first. until i make my move permanent my mercedes will remain in nys. i run the risk of not having remedied the recall when i do make the permanent move. i fear by then i will not be able to have the vehicle serviced in fl. due to a shortage of parts. i have only owned this vehicle for a year. was it not the dealer's responsibility to tell me of the recall when i was considering the purchase? ( i did not purchase from a authorized mercedes dealer, joe basil resale was the seller.) i may have reconsidered my puchase if i knew about the recall and it's specific issues in relation to my pending relocating. fortunately, nothing has occured at this point but i am concerned about what can happen in the future.
Car at 72,000 miles. airbag light illuminates constantly. dealer indicates problem with passenger occupancy sensor. oddly, the other light above the console that indicates passenger airbag on/off correctly shown off when no one is seated in passenger seat, and on when a passenger is seated. research from various online sources is inconclusive if the airbag will deploy in an accident given the current error codes of b1674 and b1767. expense to repair is excessive, in my opinion, at a cost of $1,800 for the passenger occupancy sensor (roughly 1/5 the value of the car).
The electrical wire to the lights burned as well as the connector the battery will not stay charged nothing is on at the time the airbag light stays on continuously the car is unsafe and needs to be changed. the doors randomly lock battery will not hold a charge and there's a short somewhere in the electrical system is it a hazard to drive
I took my car to dealership because airbag light is constantly on. they said it will take over $2100 to fix. airbag might not deploy due to this defect.
The airbag sensor light came on in sept 2016. the dealership stated that it was the passenger seat sensor that had gone bad. they stated that it could keep the passenger airbag from deploying or cause it to deploy without warning. even though this was a safety issue it was not covered under warranty. they stated that i could have done something to cause the sensor to go bad inside the seat! the part w/ labor cost over $1500 to replace. now 5 months late (feb 2017) i am having the same issue again.
Took my vehicle - 2013 kia sorento - to have a diagnosis test done at a kia dealership on why my air bag light is on because i received a letter about a clock spring assembly. the diagnosis said code b1764 which is a passenger ocs mat def ect and wants to charge me 2100.00 to fix. this vehicle is only 3 years old and i am over the 60,000 mile warranty. i do mostly highway driving alone in the vehicle and only 5% of the time someone is in the passenger seat. this to me sounds like a defect and should be taken care of my kia. from what i am seeing on nhtsa web site there are many complaints about the same issue
Dear nhtsa, i writing to inform you of a failure to the airbag system of my 2013 kia sorento. the initial symptom of the failure was an intermittent red airbag warning light that would appear on the driver's instrument panel while driving. within a week, the warning light was activated all the time while driving, indicating the airbag system was not functional. the kia dealer retrieved error codes b1763 and b1764 during their inspection. they diagnosed the failure to be the "electric field occupant classification sensor" which is located in the front-passenger seat cushion. the sensor is not sold individually, but only as part of the entire lower seat assembly. the dealer quoted over $1,600 as the retail purchase price. this included the seat cover, cushion, adjustable seat rails, and the one part i needed, the electric field occupant classification sensor. the assembly part number was 88200-1u210sal after tearing down my old seat assembly i found the following part numbers on the failed electric field occupant classification sensor. kia: 88950-1u500 autoliv: 611166600c iee: 31-004117-28-10 bodysense: 31-723107-15-00 mat test s/n: 0400640222 thank you for looking into this failure. *tr
Airbag warning light came on monday (january 11, 2016) morning upon starting the vehicle. it did not turn off. it remains on at all times indicating that there is a problem with the airbags in the vehicle. turning the vehicle off does not reset he problem as it still persist. the airbag warning light remains on if vehicle is in park or drive or any gear. also the airbag light remains on at all speeds from standing to 65mph. airbag warning light remains on at the time of filing this complaint wednesday january 13 2016 approximately 9:00am est i have been in touch with parkside kia of knoxville tn and have a schedule appointment to have this investigated on thursday january 14, 2016. i have had to drive the vehicle since this issue arose and am extremely concerned as there is no way for me to know if in fact the airbags will work if i am in an accident. this is very serious to me as i have 4 children one of whom has a lot of medical needs, a wife and a nurse who are often times in the vehicle with me. i strongly urge an investigation in to this before some one is seriously injured or worse.
My airbag warning light indicator has illuminated. when researching the problem online, it came to my attention that this is a very common problem that mostly occurs in vehicles that, like mine, have just surpassed the warranty period. if hundreds of car owners have experienced this same safety issue, why is it not a problem covered under a recall?
2013 vehicle with 60,939 miles has airbag sensor light on immediately after recall sc 124 performed. dealer indicates codes b1764 and 1765 ocs defect. dealer states sensor does not recognize when passenger is in seat, making this a huge safety issue and that no one should sit in this seat because a collision could result in "tragedy." kia says vehicle is out of warranty (by 939 miles) and i am second owner (purchased the vehicle with 12k mikes as certified pre-owned) therefore, kia will split the repair cost 3 ways-kia, dealer, me ($2,200.00 repair and only factory parts can be used, resulting in over $700.00 for me to pay if i want my kids to be safe in the car) there are 42 other reports of this exact defect at http://repairpal.com/air-bag-light-indicator-691 similar mileage and same seat location on many of those reports. dealer claims to have seen this issue on other vehicles as well. nhtsa should investigate this issue, as airbags save lives, and kia's airbag sensors are defective. no consumer should have to bear this unreasonable financial burden on a three year old car for an airbag sensor that goes out at a few miles over 60,000. sensor remains on constantly. shame on you, kia. this was my third kia because i trusted kia's commitment to safety. i will not make this mistake again.
At 60,800 mile my kia sorentos engine blew. i took it to the service department believing it would be under warranty only to find out they voided my warranty stating i had excessive sludge in the engine. for more than a month prior to that incident we also had a airbag light illuminate and stay on. at the time of engine failure we thought that we could fix that issue as well only to find that my electrical warranty went out at 60,000 miles. i have been researching these items online only to find that there is multiple complaints of both engine failure and the airbag light illuminating which is said to be a control module. with the amount of complaints out there why is there no recall.
Driver air bag did not deploy right some thing tore thru right side causing 2ed burns on right rest and cut on right forearm
I've had my 2013 kia sorento for just over 3 years. i was in a one car accident and my seatbelt didn't retract and my airbag didn't deploy. i broke my sternum and have back problems. the problems i've had with my sorento are replacing headlights, i had to get a new battery and brakes after one year. my airbag light doesn't go off right away. before my accident it was in the shop because my airbag light stayed on. now i have no power all my lights stopped working. when i put the truck in drive and turn it off, i can't take the key out i have to put it back in park again. my sorento was shaking and making noise when the ligjts stopped working. i have no temp gage at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sorento. while turning into a parking lot during inclement weather conditions, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a metal pole. the contact stated that the driver side seat belt failed to retract. the contact sustained a cracked sternum, neck and back pains that required medical attention. the passenger sustained a back injury that required medical attention. the contact also stated that four additional passengers sustained minor abrasions that did not require medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000. updated 09/01/2015*lj ma 09/03/15 updated 12/7/2015 *js
