Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2011 Kia Sorento

2011 kia sorrent - i've had to replace the driver side-outside door handle (approx last 6 months), driver side back door outside handle (replaced 12/2015 now broke again 2/16), and now the back passenger door will not open from inside. i am very concerned about life safety. bad situation if something tragic happens and the doors won't open or can't be opened.

My passenger door will not open from the outside. it will open from the inside. the rest of the doors work just fine. this is an safety issue.

Driver door only able to open from within vehicle. will not open from outside. had been working fine. no bad weather. simply stopped working and will not open. have noticed similar complaints online for same vehicle.

I have not been able to open my driver side back door for over a year. it will not open from the inside or the outside. due to not being able to open the door it is practically impossible to fix it as we cannot get to the hinges inside of the car unless we remove the entire inside of the door and cut the door off of the car. this is a huge safety hazard kia that needs to be fixed!

The supports holding the trunk lid open no longer hold the lid open. rather allow the trunk lid to fall causing a dangerous potential threat of the trunk lid falling on my head!

Door locks will not open front doors. driving snow and rain, i have to get in the back seat climb over to open front doors. the key does not work either. i find it hard to feel safe in this vehicle if i get into an accident you can not open door from outside. when this happened two children in car safety locks on., close my door to assist them out can't get back into vehicle. remote will not activate locks key will not open front doors so i can get in. had to climb in rear hatch.

Just went to open the driver's side passenger door of my kia sorrento one day in jan. 2016, and it would not open. when i took it to the dealer, they were able to get it open from the inside and disengaged the child safety lock, but it still would not open from the outside. i was told it would be $350 to fix it. i went to work a couple weeks later and came out to get in my car and the driver's side would not open. fortunately i was able to get in the passenger side and reach over to open it. i have been doing that for 7 mo. now because of a lack of $700 to fix both doors, and lack of time! i am taking it in tomorrow to get them fixed because our daughter and 3 grandchildren are coming this weekend to visit for 2 weeks. i began to panic when i realized if we were in a wreck, no one would be able to get us out on the driver's side, which could be the only available side! my husband called kia a few months ago about the situation and someone was supposed to call him back, but they never did. i called, but did not have the vin with me at the time. i find it interesting that so many others have complained about this and nothing is being done to help us with this obvious manufacturing problem, yet i read or saw somewhere something about their customers safety being a priority??? i just hope it doesn't take a death to get them to act on this! i'm doing my best to be sure it isn't one of my loved ones, but do expect kia to "man up" and reimburse us! to answer your other questions...the car was stationary, parked, was told it was some mechanism inside the door. i will be able to upload a repair invoice tomorrow after the job is complete. in this case, they say they will use genuine factory parts, but i'm not so sure i want them to!!! are we facing the same "trip" again "down the road?" are these parts going to be any better??? that remains to be seen!

From january1, 2016 to march 20, 2016 two doors (driver and driver side passenger) have quit opening from the outside.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while attempting to open the doors, the front passenger side door failed to unlock form the outside electronically. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the contact was unsure about what part needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 54,000. the vin was unavailable.

Car was parked in my garage. back drivers side door just stopped working. wont open from the inside or out. no damage or excessive use. you can hear the lock clicking when you hit the auto button on the front door, but it will not open. kia company states it will not repair because we are 2 months over the 5 year/60000 mile warranty. its a safety issue and they want $1100.00 to repair.

Front passenger door can not be opened from the outside. repaired once and within a week disabled again.

After experiencing issues with the shifter assembly not properly locking and unlocking my doors and i was not able to take the car out of park. i had to literally turn off the ignition multiple times and after about 5-10 attempts the car would lock the door and go into park. however, i have now been experiencing issues with the driver side door not unlocking from the outside and the interior door handle is also literally cutting my hand and not properly opening the door from the inside. i took the car to the dealership and they replaced the sc124 shift assembly due to the federal recall for this part. they also informed me that there was a recall on sa203 interior door handle. but they wanted to charge me $384.92 to repair the door lock.. (81310-2p000) $209.70 part cost / and $126.88 labor.. this is absolutely absurd.. the problem is a direct result of the broken, malfunctioning shifter assembly and any associated repairs should be covered as well by the dealership. this is absolutely absurd that as a consumer i should be held financially liable for repair costs caused by a mechanical failure that obviously broke several other parts. not being able to properly enter and exit my vehicle is a safely issue. i could very easily get locked into this car if this issue is not properly repaired as the door locking mechanism is directly connected to the electronic shifting assembly. how and why should i have to be inconvenienced or placed in danger because a manufacturer chooses to pick and chose which parts it chooses to repair as a result of their poorly manufactured defective parts.

The front driver's side door fails to open from the outside, it works from the inside. i was out running errands, just got car washed then went into a store. i came back out and door would no longer open from the outside door handle. the weather temps were above normal about 60 degrees. i had to crawl thru from passenger side to pull door handle to open door.

On sunday december 6th 2010 at approximately 10:00, i was traveling in my 2011 kia sorento ex. it is equipped with 2 panoramic sunroofs one in the front and one in the rear. the front sunroof is only mechanically functional roof. while traveling down the interstate at approximately 70 mph i heard a loud explosion and had a few shards of glass blowing into the passenger compartment. at the time of the incident the sunroof was completely closed and the sunshade was pulled forward. this prevented me from being injured by the glass. i pulled to the side of the interstate to assess the damage. damage assessment: the majority of the front sunroofs glass was missing from the middle.there was an approximate 2 inch strip of glass that was buckled upward still attached to the mounting rail on the drivers side. one the passenger side there was a longer piece still attached. it was triangular in its shape coming to a point that was approximately 9-10 inches moving towards the center of the vehicle. it too was buckle upwards towards the sky. there were scratches to the rear panoramic sunroof. the satellite radio antenna was missing. the rear spoiler had hundreds of scratches on it with glass shards impelled in it. there was minimal glass in the front interior and a few shards found in the rear as well. i was returning home from work on this morning. i work as a flight paramedic and in my job we have to continuously monitor the weather in our area out to a 90 mile circle from our base. conditions during the day. the sky was clear and sunny. the temperature was in the mid 50's. winds were calm. traffic was very light on the highway. i did not have anyone in front or behind my vehicle at the time of the incident. there were no over hanging limbs from trees. in addition conditions the prior evening and night were clear, with temperatures only dropping into the lower 40's.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorrento. the contact stated that while in the park position, the driver and the rear driver side doors failed to open. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the lock mechanism needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacture was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

Suddenly, the passenger door is not opening. sometimes it is open, sometimes it is not. there is a manufacture defect for this

The drivers side door will not open from the outside. the door opens from the inside and the exterior door handle appears fine but the door will not open.

The drivers side rear door will not open from either the inside or outside. this is ridiculous. there are literally thousands of the same complaints online and the kia dealers are replacing those that are under warranty, and brand new ones (door actuator problem). it is obviously a factory defect, yet kia won't issue a recall for the door actuator. i want to be able to use my back seat. also a safety issue if my family is in the back seat.

Kia sorento awd 4 cylinder. at approximately 89800 miles, the driver side door no longer opens from the outside. i have to reach in from the back door and open door from there. after researching online, it looks like this is a known issue with the kia's.

Driver rear door latch failed.

The exterior drive door handle stopped unlatching the door. when you remove the exterior handle, there is a cable it pulls on to unlatch the door. i pulled on the cable and it has pulled loose from the latch end. there have been other reports of this happening on the internet. the interior door panel cover is metal and prohibits you from reaching the latch. the new latch assembly is $90.00 but should not have broken. almost all of the assemble and door handle are made of plastic. prior to this, the left rear door handle fell of going down the road. the plastic piece that keeps the handle in place broken around the brass threading the bolt holds it on with. when that piece fell of just the vibration going down the road allowed the door handle to fall off.

The rear drivers side door will not open from the outside. it would open from the inside but recently stopped working altogether. i have seen several complaints about this issue from buyers. this is a safety concern. i have 2 children in car seats and connor get to them quickly because if this defect! i have had to pay to get it repaired but i have seen many buyers having to replace all 4 door latches over time! this has to be considered a defect and should be covered under a recall.

Forgot to add a few weeks ago back driverside door stopped opening from outside. opened from inside put child lock on don't know why... now door won't open at all. checked recall on kia website with vin and showing none for my vehicle. i can't believe that. so many people and we all have similar problems. kia is lying about number of recalled vehicles to keep money in their pocket. they can careless about our safety.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the chrome on the door handle was peeling and caused a passenger to sustain cuts to the hand when attempting to open the door. it was unknown which door handle experienced the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 88,200. the consumer stated the defective door handle, was on the driver's side rear passenger door. updated 11/05/15.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while entering the driver side of the vehicle, the door failed to open. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the bar on the door needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 74,000.

Door latches -both back doors will not open from the outside, 1 will not open at all. now the drivers door will not open from the outside. its very dangerous and the car just passed the 100k miles so warranty is useless. there was a recall that replaced the inside door handles for cosmetic reasons on the front, there is obviously a bigger problems. my local body shop couldn't even figure it out and told me to go to dealer who is trying to charge me $110 just to diagnose it. it should be recalled for safety reasons.

After unlocking the vehicle, the drivers side door will not open from the outside. only way to enter the car is from the passenger side. the driver door handle will not open from the outside. this apparently is a very common issue with this model. in case of an accident, external entry is impossible from the driver door. cost to repair this issue was $411.

2011 kia sorento, none of my doors will open this is a safety hazard in the event of an emergency rescue would be difficult. this vehicle needs to be recalled for the door handle defects. also i went to open the back door and the handle fell off in my hand. cannot roll the windows up when parked or you will lose access to the car you have to put your arm in and open from the inside.

2011 kia sorento rear driver side door failed to open. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door actuator needed to be replaced. did not fix. this is a kia problem. it can be a really bad situation if i can't get to my children in the back because my door will not open. the panel on the door also sticks. there are so many complaints about this kia needs to fix the problem.

Takata recall i have had my kia for almost 3 years now and since a year ago there is only one door left that will open from the inside and outside in terms of a locking mechanism. two doors will only open from the inside and the other won't open from the inside or outside. i know the problem will only get worse, but due to any emergencies and having kids it makes it really inconvenient to climb through the back into my front seat.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorenta. the contact stated that the rear driver side door would not open from outside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a cosmetic failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 131,940.

The driver's side back door would not open from the outside. only the inside. now a few days later, the driver's door is doing the same thing. not opening from the outside, only the inside.

Drivers side rear door wont open from outside. if window is down can reach in and hit inner panel and it will open. inner panel getting hung up on stripping so when you try to open door it pulls clips from panel breaking them.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the rear driver side door failed to open. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,050.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while parked, the contact attempted to open the rear driver side door, but it would not open due to the door panel becoming warped from the outside heat. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was repaired, but the details were unknown. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000.

Drivers side exterior door handle does not open the door, interior handle works fine. *tr

The locking/unlocking mechanism inthe rear passenger door failed now i am unable to open the door from the outside. the vehicle was running but parked in a parking lot. i attempted to unlock the door as my son was opening from outside.

Can't open doors using exterior handles on 3 of the four doors, only able to open from inside. locks work fine. the three doors that don't work are the driver door, front passenger, and rear door on driver side. this suv is only 4 years old. this should not be happening on a vehicle less than 5 years old.

Parked car at local shopping center with wife and returned to car to find out i can't open passenger door from exterior handle. after another week the exterior driver door handle has same problem. now a month later the driver side rear door also has same problem. i now have three doors that won't open from exterior handles. did some research and found this is a major problem across the internet with owners of kia sorento models to date from inception of 2011 models. *tr

I filed a complaint about three exterior door handles not working on my 2011 kia sorento on 4/29/2015. complaint number 10713499. as of today still no recalls. i have seen thousands of complaints and nothing from kia to repair. my wife spoke to kis service rep and was told he had many calls about exterior handles not working from 2011 - 2016 models of sorentos. kia needs to do something. if any accident or emergency help wont be able to get into vehicle without breaking glass and causing more harm. us kia sorento owners need some help to get kia corp. to send out a recall to repair issue.

On january, 29th, 2015 the front passenger side outside door handle refused to work. on january, 30th, 2015 the rear passenger outside door handle broke off. on may 24th, 2015 the driver door outside handle refused to work.

A vehicle abruptly stopped to turn left and i had to swerve to avoid rear-ending it resulting in head on collision with a utility pole. *tr

I have had several issues with my kia sorento beginning in 2013 two of my doors in the car would not open from the outside only the inside. the doors was the front passenger side and the rear driver side. the most recent door that i am experiencing problems with is the front passenger side. i can not open the door from the outside only the inside. i have also experienced issues with my power windows. last year the front driver window broke and now this year the rear driver window is broken. i have reached out to kia numerous of times b/c being locked out of your car is a safety issues. i have had really strange things happening with my kia that's really unheard of. i have also asked kia to look into if my car is possibly one of their lemons. *js

Drivers side passenger door will not open from outside but can open from inside.

While driving on light, new snow my car had suddenly skidded slightly, no over-correcting, i simply got the car back in control when the car suddenly shot forward, steering wheel seized and started racing down the opposite side of the street into the embankment! i had pulled the car to the left and had the brakes pushed all the way down (and both feet including all my weight on them) until my car crashed completely into a tree! the tires were still spinning when the car stopped and my feet were on the brakes! it was also hard to get the car out of drive and into park --- when i was able to push the car into park i quickly took the keys out. the 2011 kia sorento and sudden acceleration seems to be a problem and should seriously be looked into. yes, i was injured and thankfully a tree stopped the vehicle and no one else was hurt! *tr

Not able to open back doors one week apart from outside. *js

Driver side door latch does not work, door will not open from outside only from inside of car, requires driver side door to be opened from inside via passenger side or leaving driver side window down. *tr

The left side passenger door handle mechanism quit working. cannot open door from outside. have to reach in and open from inside. this could be a hazard due to that i cannot get to my children quickly. *tr

Drivers side door could not be opened from the outside. it would only open from inside the car. when this issue is googled i realize this is a common kia problem. *tr
