We have classified the 4 complaints from 2011 Kia Sorento about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I have been having problems with my driver door and passenger door opening from the outside. i have to open the back door to get in to the front. this has been going on for over 3 years. i've spoken to the dealer ship place where i got the car from, and they informed me it was nothing they could do about it. i also took it to the kia dealership and they told me it's not a recall or anything can do about it unless i pay for them to fix it. i don't think this is right at all. i am not a ruff driver and i try to take good care of my car. i do not feel as if i should have to pay for this. there are so many people complaining about the same thing going on with their doors and we are not getting any help at all. they are not worrying that we have to pay the car note plus the car insurance and its nothing they can do unless we pay for it. not to mention if it was someone trying to harm me and my kids. we would have to go through the back door to get in the front to start the car and pull off. that's not if you was to go on cargurus.com you would see all the complaints. is there anything that you all can help us with please let us know. thank you. also the date i put in is not correct it would not let me put 2014. *tr
I now have two rear passenger doors that do not open from the exterior of the car. opening the door requires using the inside handles only to open the doors. the first handle stopped functioning two years ago and now the second door has stopped functioning as of sunday. this is an absolute design flaw and a safety issue!! should there be any type of accident and someone need to enter the vehicle in an emergency situation from the outside to extricate a passenger, the doors do not open!! if there is an accident and the front doors are damaged and the only way in is through a rear door, now the rear doors are useless and do not function. something needs to be done with this asap! i know from research that this is a known issue with this car and model year. there are plenty of people all over the internet reporting the same problem. this is certainly not specific to my vehicle. this is not a broken sun visor, or a broken glove compartment, or a broken radio or cd player. this is a failure of vital equipment to the safety of the passengers in this vehicle. the [xxx] doors have known issues and break after time. this should not be considered a warranty issue. it is a design failure that needs to be addressed for the safety of my family and all consumers who purchased this vehicle. just because no one has died yet does not make it any less of a safety issue. use common sense and logic here. lets prevent the deaths and problems. not wait until they happen. the writing is on the walls and the number of complaints are out there. please do something!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driver's side door will not open from the outside presenting a safety issue if an emergency were to take place and a rescue was needed for the driver of the vehicle. shortly after the driver's side door failed, the back driver's side door had the same issue and will not open from the other side. once again, a safety issue that should be recalled.
Neither front door will open from the outside by key, or key fob. i am almost 6 foot and nearly 200 lbs and it is very hard to climb from the backseat to the front. if there was a fire or wreck this could be disastrous. there seems to be many complaints but no recalls yet. i have heard it is approximately $600 to fix the problem. my vehicle is past the warranty. many have said it is a problem in many kia's yet nothing is being done on it. unknown how to fix the problem or what it is.
My 2011 kia sorento has 2 rear passenger doors that don't open. neither door can be opened from the inside and they can be opened from the outside approximately one inch. the only way to "open" the door is by pulling extremely hard on the outside handle (you can feel the resistance of the interior panel). the door does open, but the interior panel detaches from the door frame. once the door is closed again reverts to not opening.
Three weeks ago my left side rear door would not open from the outside. i had the child lock on so it will not open from the inside either. today, i go to leave the house and my driver side door will not open from the outside. same side, same issue. this seriously needs attention. if i had my children in the car and got into an accident it could mean life or death trying to get them out of the car. another example: if i were being attacked and needed to get into my car quickly to drive safely away, i would have to enter my vehicle from the passenger side and crawl over to the driver side to start my car. after reading all of the other complaints about the same issue, i feel as if kia should man up and make this a recall. it is dangerous. it is a safety issue. how many people have to die before the lightbulb goes off??????? come on kia. seriously. everyone who has this issue please report it!!!!
While entering the driver side of the vehicle, the door failed to open as well as the driver side back door due to child lock being activated. i am unable to open the door from the inside on to the back door. not covered under warranty as my warranty expired in aug 2015 although i purchased my vehicle june 2011. the 60 months were from the time the dealership purchased the car not me and it only had 400 miles on it.
A couple weeks ago, while my car was parked, i went to open the driver's side door and it would not open. i tried unlocking with the fob and with the key in the door, nothing worked. i had to get into my car through the passenger side, now the only way i can get driver's side door to open, is from the inside. then a few days ago, during a camping trip, i stepped out of my car to retrieve some things from my trunk. at that time, all doors automatically locked. when i tried to open the car doors to retrieve more things (and my two children), the doors wouldn't open, again, it took several attempts before i could finally unlock the car with the key (it took approximately 15 minutes). it's summer time and my young child was sleeping inside the car. this is definitely a safety hazard given the circumstances. about a day later, the airbag light came on, i'm guessing related to this electrical defect. i contacted the dealer, they say these issues wouldn't fall under warranty and that i had to pay $99 diagnosis fee plus repairs (about $200 per door). please look into this, i found several similar complains online. kia is not taking any responsibility. thank you! *tr
Door handle on driver's side became unusable from the outside, requiring driver to open the door from the inside by entering from the passenger side or leaving the window down. if a person were in an accident and could not open the door, it would be difficult to get them out of the driver's door. the mechanism had to be replaced - kia estimated almost $500 to evaluate, order and replace the part. a car with less than 80,000 miles should not have door handles failing.
Drivers side door on 2011 kia sorento will not open from the outside. inside still works, can hear lock/un-lock i have to either crawl through the car or reach in the window and open from inside. this is a safety issue considering if i get in an accident it hinders the first responders ability to get to me. from what i've read this is an issue a lot of people are having. kia needs to issue a recall and fix it. my rear door broke 4 months ago, they should not be aloud to use plastic parts on something like this.
Driver and rear passenger door handles no longer open doors from the outside. rear door from inside or out due to engaged child lock
Approximately two months ago, while parked in my driveway, i attempted to open my driver rear passenger door. it would not open from the outside; the mechanism that holds the door shut had somehow managed to stay in the "holding" position which prevented it from being opened from the outside. just recently my driver door itself has started to do the exact same thing. this causes an issue if there is an accident as it prevents someone from accessing a person seated behind the driver. i have seen several complaints regarding this same issue with the same make/model/year as my vehicle. we would like kia to issue a recall.
2011 kia sorento rear driver side passenger door cannot be open from the outside. this is safety matter. we can open the door from the outside to get our children or others out of car in case of accident or other emergency? my car only has 58000 miles on it and this issue just started. due to the safety aspect and the large number of complaints regarding this issue there should be a kia recall due to this defect.
Recall : the handle on my 2011 kia will not open from the inside< we paid and got that fixed, now the back passenger door is doing the same thing, the panel is cracked now from trying to get it on.look my husband and i both have cancer and cant afford all this
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while the vehicle was parked, the rear doors failed to open. the mechanic stated that the rear door panel was warped and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the driver side exterior door handle fractured without warning. as a result, the door only opened from the inside. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,900.
I recently purchased this vehicle back in march 2016. only to find out 3 months later that my driver's door won't open for the outside. this is really a safety issue. the cost to repair it should be on kia not the owner since we haven't did any damage. i can see if we as the owners are causing the damage but we aren't
The drivers side door and the passenger door on the drivers side will not open from the outside. dealer said it is a broken latch. it will open from the inside of the car. the passenger door broke about 6 months ago, the drives door was very recent.
Passenger rear door will not open from the inside or outside no matter what i try. i couldn't get my child out, had to crawl through car to do this. the child safety lock is engaged but does not explain being unable to open from the outside. i'm going to the dealer to get it taken care of tomorrow. but this is not covered under my powertrain warrantee. it should be a no brainer that this is a recall item. i've seen other's comments and there is no way i saved up my money to spend it on a repetitive $400 repair as i have seen others do. i have a five year old and another one on the way this august. i am livid because frankly i feel like driving my beater car is safer than driving the sorento. but i worked my butt off to be able to afford the sorento because i thought it would be safer. i was so wrong.
Car doors will not open from outside, will open from inside but not outside. no child safety lock is not on. i see hundreds of people online with this problem. i'm afraid of not being able to reach my child or pet in car. kia repair man said it is faulty part but not a safety issue.
This is complaint number two for my sorento. on may 20, 2016 my passenger side front door will not open from the outside. this is the second door on the same vehicle that will not open. kia has used a defective part that breaks on the inside of the door without warning, and not due to normal wear.
The exterior door handle on driver's door stopped working. the vehicle can only be opened from the inside.
Rear drivers side door can not be opened from the outside which presents the danger of being burned if vehicle were to catch fire. this condition is now present in a large number of vehicles and i believe should be recalled for repair and categorized a safety hazard. a simple internet search will establish the scope of this defect . dealer indicates the cost of repair $430.00 per door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the rear driver side door would not open from the outside. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer diagnosed that the door lock would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 95,000. updated 01/23/2017*ct updated 7/10/18*jb
I have had several issues with the doors. it started with my front drivers door and now it is the back passenger door. you cannot open the door from the outside and you have to take the door apart to fix it. however, i can't open my back door at all because my child safety lock is on, so i cannot open it from the inside like i do with my drivers door. i am unable to get my kids in or out of the car, without having to put them all in through one door and over car seats. i am not the only one who has had this problem. several people have. here is the link to the complaints http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t37046_ds615605. if there was ever and emergency i would not be able to get my children out in a timely manner.
Driver door inoperable from the outside. parked in driveway over night - no warning of any imminent failure.
The drivers side door will not open from the outside when the door is unlocked. it will only open from the inside. there is no visible damage to the door. the car has not been in a wreck. this is poor craftsmanship and a safety hazard.
Front driver side outside door handle does not open the door when unlocked with either key or remote. door operates from the inside and not outside. door was working earlier same day and showed no signs of wear or break before outside door handle stopped working.
Door latch from outside of drivers door decided to stop working. a reasonable person would understand this to be a safety issue. kia does not. they keep extra parts on hand to complete this expensive repair. apparently, it happens often. this is not proper or just. others having this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the front and rear driver side doors locked and failed to open. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the rear driver side door did not open without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that a practice piece fell off and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was 92,000.
Doors will not open from the outside, poses a safety hazard if child is in car will not be able open the door. meaning a hot car and a baby in the car seat. for a kia sorento 2011, however, it's been reported through multiple forums about this defect kia charges the customers who are outside of their warranty.
Driver side door only opens from inside. saw many complaints about this on web when will they recall?
Door locked from outside on april 27, 2016 i noticed that on my lr passenger door on my sorento that i was unable to open the door from the outside. after review many complaints i understand this is an ongoing problem with the sorentos, specifically the 2011 year. i feel this is most definately a safty concern for the passengers in my vehicle. i will be taking this truck to the kia dealership today to get an estimate on repair. what is it going to take to address this problem a death ?!?!? please step up to the plate and take responsibilty for this fault.
Front driver door will not open from the outside. wife had an emergency and was unable to open door. she ended up jumping through the passenger door. door was working fine prior to sudden onset of the problem. the structure of the door shows no signs of being tampered with. looked online and saw many other complaints regarding the actuator.
The driver's side outside door handle broke. the door will not open from the outside. the vehicle was stationary, parked in a parking lot
My drivers side door will not open from the outside. i was doing some research regarding this matter and noticed several and i mean several kia sorento vehicles with the exact same issue. i believe this should be recalled. i am finding kia sorento from 2010 to 2016 with this exact problem. i truly believe this could be a serious problem. what if my grandbaby got into the vehicle and these doors would not open from the outside? they would suffocate due to the heat in the vehicle. that is what would happen. so, yes this is definitely a safety issue.
Driver inside door handle made a "popping sound" when driving looked at door when at light and handle was sticking out (away from the door like something broke)? difficult to open the door from the inside
I have a 2011 kia sorento in which the front passenger door does not open from the outside, only the interior door handle manages to open the door. i replaced the driver's door last year. it appears that this is a safety hazard if the vehicle is in a crash and the driver or occupants are incapacitated. the door would not be able to be opened from the outside by someone assisting, god forbid that the vehicle was on fire. numerous complaints have been filed by consumers regarding this issue
Back drivers side door handle stopped working, unable to open door from outside of vehicle. today 6/2/16 drivers side door handle stopped working as well. this is very dangerous i read several post where all 4 doors stopped working , what if there is an emergency and you are unable to get into your vehicle because the doors wont open. leaving the windows open is not an option since it puts the vehicle at risk for potential theft. kia dealers are charging almost $400 per door for what is clearly a defect on the vehicle as many people have complained about the same issue on the 2011 model.
All power doors are unlocked, but front driver side door can not be opened from outside. it can be opened from inside. door handle, door latch and actuator seems working ok. it is a safety concern as door cannot be opened from outside even as doors are unclocked.
Back drivers side door not working. first could not open it from the outside but only from inside. thought the child safety lock had become engaged and moved the latch - then could not open door from outside or inside. car has 91,000 miles on it but since it was purchased used, dealer states no warranty and that it will cost $622 to fix. inability to open door is a huge safety issue, particularly in the event of an accident. several other instances of this happening with 2011 kia sorrento have been documented online, particularly at carguru.com.
Two weeks ago, while my car was parked (stationary), i tried to open my rear driver side door and it would not open from the outside, today the same happened to my driver side. after googling the problem, i found a website with many other people with the same problem, with the same year, make and model. i also found over 500 complaints with the same problem on this page. i called the kia recall number and the rep. told me that there is nothing they can do because this is not a safety issue, therefore it's not a recall issue!!! it is a safety issue because if there was an accident, they would not be able to get me and/or passengers without having to break in through a window or jaws of life. i was told to take the car into the dealership and have the problem diagnosed by them. this is not a problem, but i know (from all other complaints) that i will be told that it's not covered and i will be responsible for the repairs. i will also have to pay to have them diagnose the problem. the car is no longer under warranty. i don't understand why this is not being investigated with this many people having the exact same problem, it is a malfunction in the production of the car and kia should be responsible for fixing this problem. i am posting this as legal documentation to prove that i have made you aware of the problem in the event of an accident that could jeopardize my safety.
Driver side door simply would not open from outside the vehicle one day. no accident or other impact was the cause, so clearly this is a defect of the vehicle. internet search indicates this has happened to many owners and is a clear safety issue. this vehicle has only been on the road for 5 years and 5 months and has 77,000 miles. df door latch assembly had to be replaced at cost of $450. would like to see this investigated based on the number of instances and the fear that this will happen and prevent someone from being rescued from outside the vehicle in a worst case scenario.
2011 kia sorento driver side, both rear doors can not be open either from out side and insider due to child safety. this is safety matter. how we can get our children out of car in case of accident? currently only one door of my car can be open from outside. i am strong believe someone have to take a look and recommend the re-call for this kia manufacture part defected.
About 1 month ago, jan/feb of 2016 the passenger side front door handle just stopped working, as far as opening the door from the outside is concerned. the same exact thing just happened today, march 20, 2016, to the driver's side front door. both outside latches are inoperable. the first incident happened in my driveway, the second happened in the parking lot of our church. i am married with 7 kids, 5 of whom drive, and have never, never, had a door latch break on the many vehicles owned over time. this is not a coincidence, this is an item that has to be recalled. the vehicle is nice, but with recalls or problems to the shift lever, air bags, rear rotors, etc., etc..., why isn't the nhtsa taking a closer look at all the short cuts and/or dysfunctional parts kia is using to get their car to market quicker. we are the car's 2nd owner, so kia will not even honor it under the 7year/100,000 mile warranty. our vehicle is not quite 5 years old with approx. 90,000 miles.
Two of the exterior handles do not work anymore. they will open from the inside but not the outside. if the child safety locks had been on at the time the handles stopped working the doors would not be able to open at all. these handles stopped working at different times with no warnings. this is a very serious safety hazard for my family - i have a 4 year old with autism.
Front passenger door will not open from the outside
2/21/16 my driver side door would not open regardless of unlock with alarm or with the key. i can only open from the inside which the only way to get in i have to climb over from the passenger side to get in. yesterday the passenger side started to do the same. so now i have to go through the back side. i called the dealership i'm not under warranty. i had to go there 2/19 for another issue and it happen to be another lady there and her issue was guess what her doors. i didn't hear the whole conversation but called the dealership yesterday and told them my problem he stated there was a lady last week with same issue. it cost her $350 per door!! i think that is over the top and i shouldn't have to pay that much this should be a recall issue(im not the only one this is happening too)!!! i don't know when i will be able to get it fix. i guess ill be climbing over my seats for awhile and pray the 2 other doors don't lock up. my first and last kia......
Driver's side rear door handle will not engage door actuator. door only opens from inside. cannot use child locks, as the door can only be opened from the inside. vehicle is just outside of warranty, and kia will not repair without charge. part is defective, and there are numerous online complaints on this issue (including previously repaired vehicles).
