Problems with 2011 Kia Sorento STRUCTURE

2011 kia sorento 116,000. regularly maintained.the first problem was the driver side back door will not open from the outside, that happened about 6 months ago. now, my driver side door won't open from the outside. in addition, recently my car has just shut off while driving; foot on the gas at it is not doing anything (no engine light). we park it, shut it off and restart and it will work fine for a while. there is some sort of acceleration problem. i can stop at stop sign and lightly increase my speed and it will tug like engine. no accidents. this is a huge safety concern with having 2 small children in the back seat. if i were in an accident, i would not be able to get my child out of the back. if i was in accident, someone couldn't help me or my children. this to me is very serious! sept 2017 date of back door issue not opening from outside. 3/22/18 drivers door not opening from outside. car shutting off and not working properly as been since about jan/2018. there is something wrong with headlights too. since 1/2017, bulbs are good but they just work for a while and then one or the other stops working out of nowhere.

I am unable to open my drivers side rear door from the outside. this seems to be quite a prevelent problem on several kia models. i have seen that many people have had the same problem. some with multiple doors on the same vehicle. this is a sfety issue as you can't quickly get into the vehicle to if you had small children in the back and ther was an emergency or if first responders needed access to the back or any door that had this problem for that matter. the reason i am reporting this is that i have seen too many people with this issue on there kia sorentos and other models.

Driver's side door handle malfunctioned. can unlock door with key or key fob, but door will not open. have to climb into back seat to manually open driver's side door. this is a safety issue! completely ridiculous to have to do when it's raining, or when needing to enter the car quickly. i'm reading online that it is a faulty actuator switch. dealers are charging up to $500 to fix. this needs to be a recall from the manufacturer. not bragging about my kia anymore.

In 2017 my driver side exterior rear door handle was being opened by my 98 lbs daughter and the door handle broke off. car was in park then in 1018. the passenger exterior rear door handle broke off by the same 98 lb daughter. to me this is a safety issues. if i was in a car wreck and passed out. you wouldnt be able to get into the back seat.

Left rear door will not open by door handles inside or outside even with the door unlocked if kids are in the car it is a safety hazard sitting still when it first happened

The passenger side door handle completely fell off in my hand when i attempted to open the door to get my grandchild out of the car. the car handled was defective and my grandchild remained in a car in extreme heat while i tried to get into the car another way. i crawled over the driver's set and pushed the door open from the inside to be able to pull the child out. i should not have to crawl around in my car to get a minor out of it. nor should anyone be exposed to texas heat for any amount of time due to car failure. called kia customer center and was told to take car to be evaluated at a dealership near me - they chose. the service area didn't even look at the car -- saw the car handle i brought in and said 'well why you bringing it in. it's broke. i can tell that by looking at it." he said he would open a work order that day. no response, i called kia and they called this person who said he was just then writing up the order. weeks later i called kia customer service and i was told that some sales manager (no name, would not provide phone number) had denied covering the repair of the part. i told the kia service to appeal it -- this plastic part is on the passenger side of my car. for 6 years, this car has been used by me exclusively m-f to an from work. once in awhile on the weekends, i take a grandchild to an event or sometimes i have carried husband to ymca.. if the part failed due to use, the drivers side handle should have failed. i looked online after learning from kia that there would not be a recall on this issue. i saw hundreds of people in the same situation i was in - warranty didn't cover it since it was over 70,000 miles. the 'fix' repair is over $500. i saw that a class action is being discussed. since it is always the passenger door handle that fails for 2011 kia, it is obviously due to kia using a substandard part.

The driver-side front door latch broke with no advance notice. i had made a stop and tried to reenter the vehicle. the door will not open from the outside. i don't see a safety recall for this vehicle, but i see plenty of complaints which indicate that it is either a plastic part of the door handle, or the locking mechanism. this should be covered under a safety recall, as it presents a safety hazard in the event of a crash where the driver is unable to exit without assistance since rescuers would be delayed in opening the vehicle. apparently all doors on this vehicle are subject to this same problem.

Driver's side door won't open from outside...a quick internet search reveals this is a very common problem with a bad actuator. this is a huge safety concern...imagine putting an infant or toddler in the car and then going around to open your driver's door. this is a big deal kia. i won't buy another one.

I am unable to open my front passenger door from the outside. my car is out of warranty now and i called kia to see about a recall as a safety concern, and they said they do not categorize it as such and wouldn't issue a recall. i've done research and this is an ongoing and continual problem for them. what happens if my other doors malfunction this same way? i have small children who could be trapped in my car because i can't open the doors from the outside? what would happen if the car were on fire or we were in an accident and i couldn't get to my children??? i can't see how this isn't a safety concern when children could become trapped in the car!

My care is only 6 years old and i have already had to repair and replace my door latches on the driver door and the passengers driver side door. this has worn entirely too fast. none were misused. i have childrenand both completely failed to work creating a hazard to entering the vehicle.

One day the drivers door just won't open from the outside. it broke from the inside i had no accidents or damage that could affect the door at all and i've been doing some research and it seems to be a common issue with this particular model.

You say you want me to report it when the manufacturer fails to perform the recall work, but you have no way for anyone to do that. you are as bad as the manufacturer who failed me. i can't count on you to do anything, you've made that very apparent.

I have two doors that will not open from the outside. i searched online and see that this is a common problem but i do not see a recall. i think something needs to be done to force kia to recall and fix this problem

Driver side door on my 2011 kia sorento stopped working yesterday,. would not open by remote or key. i had to climb in and crawl over to drivers door to get into car. this is a serious defect that could result in death or injury to me and my passengers during a very common event in houston - flooding. if i was pinned in my car going under water and no one could open the door by any means then i would drown. just how many complaints do u need to have to recall your obvious defect? i have seen an alarming number of people who have complained to you on the same but no actions are taken by kia to remediate this dangerous default. people have been charged up to $900 to kia dealership to fix their shoddy cost saving cheap door only to have the other door(s) on their car go out within weeks. in other words, we should always be ready for this much reported safety hazard! it is going to flood in houston tomorrow...hope i am not trapped in my car due to your negligence. oh and there are lots of other issues that could happen, unable to get my grandchildren out of the car in a houston summer! *tr

On 1/16/2017 i went to a dr appointment. when i came out i unlocked the car and the outside handle on the driver's side door wouldn't work. the door was unlocked but the handle would not work. i had to go into the car from the passenger side and climb over to open the door from the inside. this was not easy as i am a short 67 year old woman. took the car into a mechanic and he had to order the entire latch assembly $243.50. i checked on the nhtsa site and there are so many other cars that have had this safety issue also. it looks like that this problem is becoming a bigger problem as our cars age. hopefully my other doors won't break also as was the case for several other owners. please look into this extremely potentially dangerous issue and have kia issue a recall. thank you for your time. *tr

Over the course of the past 6 months, i have had several problems with the door handles on this 2011 kia sorento. after searching online, ive found its a major problem that kia refuses to recall. this is absurd. the front two doors on the kia will not open from the outside, but will from the inside. one of the back doors has a handle that has broken off after little use. ive read hundreds of stories of this happening and kia needs to make this right. the extensive labor it takes into removing the door handle is the problem for the price. most service dealers want hundreds of dollars to fix a plastic door latch/actuator and that is a rip off. these need to be recalled immediately for safety reasons. if a crash were to happen, and the inside also quits working, how would you exit the vehicle?

The right rear passenger door on my 2011 kia sorento will not open from the inside or out since october, 2016. the dealerships that i have reached out to are quoting a $400.00 pricetag to "fix" this issue that is obviously the fault of the manufacturer. in reading the forums and links on how to fix this, it has become apparent that kia refuses to address the thousands and thousands of consumers who have been affected by this and i am compelled to report as hopefully the nhtsa can compel kia to issue a recall for this widespread issue as it is indeed a safety issue. does somebody have to die trapped in their kia for kia to address this?

Vehicle stationary, the right front passenger door latch failed to open. was working fine one day and not at all the next. it is the outside door handle. inside still works. i removed the door panel and inner door panel and checked all linkage. the failure is an election solenoid in the actual latch itself. this often happens on other doors on these vehicles, which if they have a child lock leaves the door inoperable and makes it very difficult to remove a child in an emergency.

70,000 miles on this vehicle. driver side door cannot be opened from the outside. very serious safety issue with many complaints filed. cheap plastic mechanism is to blame. many other complaints on other doors also.

Door locks will not open from outside the door lock assembly has broken on two of my doors, the passenger front and the driver side rear. this is clearly a problem based on the amount of complaints and should be recalled. there is no guarantee if you get them fixed, with original kia parts, that it will not happen again. this clearly is a safety problem.

Takata recall. my drivers side passenger door will not open from the inside or outside. when i contacted the dealer they told me that it isn't covered under warranty anymore. they said it will cost $4oo. this site is full of these complaints so why isn't there a recall on it? does a child have to get stuck in one of these cars and die before it is fixed??

Already filed complaint about 2 doors that you cannot open from the outside of the vehicle when unlocked, now i have a 3rd door that won't open from the outside while unlocked. gonna have to climb in from the hatchback pretty soon. they all open from the inside, not the outside. so now i have to leave the child safety locks open all the time, hopefully my 3 yr olds won't pull on the door handle from the inside and fall out of the vehicle. all this within the last 3 weeks. i'm guessing somebody has to die before this will be recalled. going to call dealer today to see what they say.

The drivers side door will not open from the outside. my car has just over 40,000 miles. if there were an emergency, accident were the driver was unresponsive, a responder could not open the door from the outside to reach the driver. a kia dealer service manager believes the problem is a failed door latch and the repair cost is approximately $450-$500.

Kia sorento 2011. parked. first it was one door, just stopped opening from the outside, opens from inside, unless you put child safety lock on, then it won't open at all. then today the other side not opening from the outside. all open from inside, only problem is what to do when all four stop opening from outside. if my kid is in there, falls asleep, and it's hot outside, how do i get the kid out if i can't open from outside, somebody is going to be seriously hurt or killed from this problem. from the looks of things there has been a lot of problems with these doors.

After unlocking the vehicle, the drivers side door will not open from the outside. only way to enter the car is from the passenger side. the interior drivers side door handle does operate properly. the driver door handle will not open from the outside. this apparently is a very common issue with this model. in case of an accident, external entry is impossible from the driver door.
