Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving approximately 40 mph, a loud popping noise occurred and the engine suddenly stalled. the vehicle was towed to suntrup kia(6263 s. lindbergh blvd, st. louis, mo) who indicated that the engine seized. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 66,000.
Vehicle was parked in the garage and stationary. when trying to start the vehicle using the key-less ignition, dash and interior lights started to flicker in the vehicle and relays start to click. locks would not operate nor could i shift into neutral, started to smelt burning, pushed ignition button to shut down. would not shut off, electrical kept cycling like it was trying to start on its own, had to disconnect the battery to shut down the car. starter solenoid never engaged at any time nor did the engine try to turn over.
Engine got a loud noise and then car shut down. the engine has a large hole. i will have to get a new one. this happened while driving on 4 lane street. had have vehicle towed.

Kia was purchased less than a year ago. this is the third time it was taken to a dealership to get checked. car engine light comes on and loses power and keeps going into limp mode. it is a safety hazard and must be dealt with. today while in the passing lane car lost all power and would not move. i was driving about 45mph and it wouldn't go . a tractor trailer was speeding behind me and nearly rear ended me as i was in the passing lane and couldn't make it go again to pull over. when i eventually got it to pull over it was idling high and did not sound right. mechanic came and placed vehicle on computer and again three codes came up including engine power failure and limp mode. i could have been seriously injured due to kias lack to repair this defect and this could be a lawsuit waiting to happen. i want to be reimbursed for repairs or an allowance toward a new vehicle purchase.
Transmission problems like not getting into gear or jerking when shifting and engine seem to loose power or not have enough also there is a noise the a/c making a rattling noise and vibrating .
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while the contact's daughter was driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated. the driver was flagged down by another motorist who alerted her that flames and smoke were visible under the vehicle near the tailpipe. the contact imminently pulled over to the shoulder and exited the vehicle. within seconds, the police and fire departments arrived at the scene. a police report was filed. the fire department extinguished the flames. the damage to the vehicle was unknown. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed by aaa car insurance back to the contact's home. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving various speeds, the vehicle made a whining and hissing noise that the contact believed came from the engine. there were no warning indicators illuminated. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled while depressing the accelerator pedal. the failure continued to occur despite multiple attempts. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. warner kia (501 7th st, parkersburg, wv 26101, 304-422-3502) was notified and stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number 11v258000 (power train). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 138,000.
Twice, while driving slowly and preparing to stop the engine revs fast in attempt to race on forward altho i am slowing down and preparing to park vehicle. i am forced to react by rushing & putting my foot on the brake to stop the racing of the engine.
In november 2015 had major oil line failure, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. in december 2017 had major oil leak, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. june 2019 check engine light activated upon putting vehicle in park. took it to kia dealership and they found pieces of bearing in the bottom of oil filter housing. kia dealership recommended replacement of bank oil control valve and ultimately replacement of engine. vehicle only has 86,600 miles on it. kia dealerships not interested in buying vehicle and quote me approximately $6,000 to replace engine. i suspect this may be same issue kia had with 2012 sorrentos which led to recall.
While driving vehicle stalls. happens more frequently than when first started
Driving down hwy. o in orrick mo with two other passengers my daughter 15 and my granddaughter 5. around 5pm saturday hune 2nd a smell of smoke came through front vents. as i started to pull over a swoosh sound came from the car and flames shot out of the hood of the car. then from under the dash inside. through the car in park and open the door. ran to get my granddaughter out of her car seat and a third passenger my daughter got out of the backseat as well. with in minutes the car was totally in flames.*dt vin unknown. consumer stated she suffered 2nd degree burns. *jb

Vehicle was in motion traveling down the highway, when engine shuts off completely. no warning lights were illuminated or anything. the indicator never went up to hot, there was no steam from the radiator--only a thick cloud of black smoke coming from behind the engine. had it towed to the repair shop to find out that engine had cooked itself from the inside out and had to be replaced. the mechanic stated that the oil and fluids were good except all the coolant had been blown out and that it was a defective engine. spoke to several different mechanics and were told they had encountered many other kia sorento that did the same thing. engine would suddenly just stop. i am the second owner and therefore not covered under the original warranty. this is unacceptable. there should be a recall on the engines and/or vehicles. it is gonna cost me over $5000 to repair my vehicle!
'tamara recall' i was traveling up the interstate slightly uphill at 55 miles an hour when i begin to lose power\speed and before i could get it to the shoulder it lost all power to gather and smoke started coming in the ac vent when i got it stopped and open the hood it was burning at the back right hand side of the motor on some wiring harness i was able to put the fire out i later was told that it had thrown a rod and was most likely the cause of the fire
I was driving down the interstate slightly uphill. at about 55 mph when my sorento began to loose power/speed. before i could pull off onto the shoulder smoke began coming in through the a.c vents. when i reached the shoulder and opened the hood the back right end of the motor was on fire from the wiring harnesses. i was able to put out the fire. upin a mechanic looking at it i was told it had thrown a rod and most likely the fire.
My daughter is 21 years olds and she purchased 2011 kia sorento from pete's kar smart kia in amarillo. she goes to college in lincoln nebraska and her car is not holding oil. she has on 2 occasions in a short period of time had her oil light come on and when she checked the oil it was bone dry. this is between oil changes. we can get no resolution from kia as she has taken it to kia in amarillo and in lincoln. i have googled this issue for this particular year and their have been several comments from others sharing the same issue with 2011 kia not holding oil. i am concerned for my daughter's safety. if she breaks down on she side of the road due this issue as she has to drive 10 hours to come home. please consider investigating and reviewing this issue. thanks for your assistance with this matter. she got the car towards the end of april/ first of may
The engine started making noise and locked up, checked with kia on recalls dues to i've seen so many, and after trying to find one at many engine shops, they have none at the time because they said they were in high demand right now. the 2.4 is failing, and the only recall is on the 2.4 tdi, but i highly believe kia has to be aware of this. motor locked up while driving on the interstate and almost caused me to be rear ended.
Engine light is on, keeps stalling out at a stop or when turning, smells like something burning, now making a rough grinding noise from motor. keeps going through oil, putting two quarts of oil in every other day. passenger side door in back wont open from the outside. the passenger side headlight keeps blowing out, the tires on the front end keep going bold.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that the engine produced a loud knocking noise when the vehicle was started. also, while driving 35-48 mph, a deer jumped out into the street. the contact swerved and crashed into a guardrail. the air bags did not deploy. there were no injuries. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was towed to fuccillo kia (3900 state st, schenectady, ny 12304, (518) 847-0800) where the mechanic stated that the contact should have the vehicle serviced at the dealer's collision shop. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to have the body damage repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the cause of the failure was not determined. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Engine shut off while car moving. no indication no lights across dash and lost all power.
So this morning i'm just heading to work and my kia start a limp mode which it stop in middle of a highway and their where kids in the car it has a bunch of light on
I own a 2011 sorento (not a gdi engine) that experienced a spun rod bearing and engine failure (engine limp). my sons were driving on the highway in our kia sorento when without any warning, the engine failed. thankfully, my sons were able to safely transition off the highway through high-speed traffic in "limp mode". my sons were quickly able to find online complaints and diagnostics duplicating what they had just experienced - spun rod bearing. i was instructed by kia corporate that i should tow my vehicle to a kia dealer for official diagnostics ($140). the dealer confirmed the car experience a spun rod bearing and engine failure requiring a $6,500 engine replacement. it has come to my attention that my model is not included in the kia engine recall. i don't understand the recall limits when the rod bearing defect causes the engine failure regardless of the engine type.
Taka recall- vechicle has stalled on the highway/streets while driving several times, example i could be in the middle of driving and the car just completely slows down, almost causing accidents which can be very serious. i have taken the car back to the dealer and they said there's nothing wrong, clearly there's and issue with the car. i have been reading storys with consumers having the same issues that i'm having. kia has not issued a recall which is sad due to the many complaints and life threading situations this has put people in. i'm in the process of hiring and attorney to look into this because no one is giving me answers. not sure what it could be but i've ask around and some say it sounds like a transmission issue i need answers
A cam sensor melted, there were pieces of plastic on the spark plugs, and all mechanics we talked to have never seen anything like this. they initially thought that it was the exhaust vvt solenoids, but as they inspected further they realized something else was majorly wrong. we were on a road trip when this happened and have been stranded for 4 days because they haven't been able to fix the problem. the only solution they found is to replace the engine. the symptoms seem to be consistent with the nhtsa campaigns #11v258000 and #17v224000 after discussing with the mechanics we've worked with. see attached image of melted cam sensor.
Every time i changed the oil, i noticed it was not the same as used oil coming from my other vehicles. engine problems started approximately 3 years ago. i was constantly checking the oil and needing to add. i took the vehicle to the kia dealer where we bought the car and they said the oil was burning up in the motor. it was getting hot. i ran two flushes on the motor and then continued my regular oil changes. in february of 2019 the motor seized up and quit while being driven on city streets. i drained 4.5 quarts of oil from the vehicle after it was towed. i heard about the recall on various years of kia/hyundai motors and thought this migh be the problem with my 2011 sorento.
My car went into limp mode after check engine light came on for transmission and electrical system failure in solenoid a of transmission. car struggled to shift between gears and would would jerk me driving. driving yesterday and pedal went straight to the floor causing total motor loss and hole in motor.
Vehicle has 75,000 miles on it and has started to stall at low idle times. mostly upon start up but has increased to stalling occasionally at stop lights. engine light will come on car will restart and sometimes engine light goes off other times it will stay on. has been happening about 3 months now. had it in the dealership for faulty door handle which is a known problem but was not covered under warranty. had dealership run diagnostics which of course i had to pay for and they claimed it was reading a cpu error and the board should be replaced $1,400. lots of recalls on this vehicle, don't see myself buying another kia.
I have been a kia customer for over 7 years and are on our third vehicle from them. traded my kia forte for 2011 sorento in 2016. it has had a lot of issues with the electrical system and it cost $1,200 to fix it. recently on jan 25th my timing chain broke and also ruined the engine. now told that i need new engine for $5.100. i have learned of many recalls on sorento engine motor but starting for the year 2012.
The engine has a clicking sound all the time sounds luke its grinding metal
Recall!!!when accelerating more than 60-80 mph on the interstate, the eco sensor light pops on and my suv jerks back then picks up speed causing the back of my head to hit your head restraint. it is very scary!!!!
My engine gave out and my car will not start. i've had a mechanic look at it and they told me i need to replace the timing belt but the complete engine is no longer working.the car does not start and when it did it would still jolt from time to time. i've seen a recall online for my car online but kia said it's not covered because it was off by a couple months. although the issue is the same.
Approximately 6 weeks ago my vehicle began acting funny, like it wanted to die out while driving and would cut out at red lights. when the engine light came on i took it to a kia dealer and was told the issue was exhaust cam shaft and it was broken off /melted in cylinder head. to replace head had to be removed. when head was removed cracks were found on coils 3 & 4 in housings and noticed metal shavings in motor. yesterday i dropped at dealer who now says vehicle may have a blown head gasket or worse. made kia aware with 1st issue and they covered 1/2 of repair cost. still have an open case # with them and reported the new issue under the same case number. broken and melted pieces in cylinder head & metal shavings tells me engine issues that i am not responsible for. could this be relatd to same issue as fires in engines on 2011 sorentos?
My kia has been in and out of the dealership repair facility since july 1st 28. i have had to have it towed there twice. my original id complaint # with nhtsa is nhtsa id number: 11142672. i still have an open complaint with kia that has been ongoing. due to melted parts connected to the engine that had to be replaced a couple weeks prior to the vehicle going in this time. now i am being told the engine mating surface is an issue. the cylinder head is warped & the block is warped. how? i have not driven this car hot that i am aware of! this is a 2011 kia that is outside of the recall for engine issues but is still being pushed for recall by nhtsa...what do i do now if kia won't replace the motor? there are only 77k miles on this vehicle. i bought it with 900 miles on it. i am still waiting to hear from kia. this is getting ridiculous! kia knows very well there are problems with these motors and feels content to sit back and let people's hard earned money result in a non-driveable vehicle. i have babied this vehicle since the day i got it. this issue is through no fault of my own. this is on them. someone needs to do something. a $25k vehicle with 77k miles should not need a new motor!
2011 kia, just over 100,000 miles. started knocking from the engine, pulled over had it towed to my mechanic. stated that lower engine block broke the engine blown. dealership would not do anything.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving 50 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle decelerated to 10 mph; however, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to turner kia (4201 chambers hill rd, harrisburg, pa 17111, (717) 564-2240) where the cause of the failure was not determined; however, the contact was informed that the engine might be faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 116,000. *tt consumer notified corporate headquarters. updated 12/11/18*jb
Vehicles caught fire, had pulled in the parking lot at work and smoke began to come from under the hood on the vehicle. within seconds flames had erupted and front end of car was completely engulfed by the time the fire department had arrived. vehicle was a total loss.
Motor mounts are broke. i need to replace 3 of them. this isn't normal at all. the car has never been wrecked. the paint keeps peeling off. i repainted 1 x on an area, kia is aware. i took to them and they said kia wasn't responsible (but , i disagree). i paid over 30,000 for this kia.. , body shop couldn't guarantee due to the paint job kia did on my automobile. now the paint is peeling on other spots.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. additionally, the contact was informed that the lower radiator hose fractured and also needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. an unknown dealer was contacted and provided a cost estimate to replace the engine. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
My wife was driving down the street when the car suddenly locked up(stopped) and the engine shut off. she noticed smoke coming from under the hood and then within minutes the engine was in complete flames. prior to this there where never any signs of the car running or driving like there where going to be problems. i've never had any mechanical issues at all aside from this incident. this has come completely out of nowhere unexpectedly.
Since i bought the 2011 kia sorento the transmission or engine tends to stall in the middle of driving like not changing gears, gets locked, jerks back and forth till it unlocks or changes gears while at the same time slowing or stopping car in it's tracks. twice i have hit my head on the steering wheel, have had seat belts lock tight against me and my passengers when it locks while trying to change gears. it happens at least 3-6 time a year since i have had the car. i have reported it to my service dealership kearny pearson kia, 7303 clairemont mesa blvd, san diego, ca 92111 and they have not found anything wrong. these past two years the gears locking is getting worse and the car slows down instantly from driving on the frwy 65 mph down to 35 mph instantly almost having cars hit me from behind. same for driving on the street going 35-40 mph dropping to 5-10mph and stop/jerk/go/stop/jerk and almost having cars behind me crash into me. i have been blessed to have had fast reacting drivers behind me or no drivers. this last incident last month was so powerful that i smacked the steering wheel and thought i had gotten hit but didn't. my chest got tight as if i was having a heart attack from the force and my kids cried from the whiplash. this was yet the strongest. also, since 2011 i have had 7 - 10 incidents of smoke coming out of the air vents, smiling like fire. i turn off the vent and it continues for 10min then goes away. i am no mechanic but if i had to guess i would say something with the air-conditioning being high for long periods and then when it gets turned down or off seems to activate these things especially the gears locking. just my observation. i hope you can get to the bottom of this because for the first time in my life i fear for my life and those with me or around me with this car. you just don't know when it will happen next.
Very rough start in the morning or after sitting off for over 2 hours. after 30 seconds engine noise reduced dramatically. steering control malfunction sometimes. making up dow button act erraticaly along cruise control and radio control. bluetooth connection sound quality very poor.
My 2011 kia sorento has been trouble from day one. a week after i bought it, the wiring harness had to be replaced which took over a month to get the part from kia. then at 90,000 miles the transmission started failing and it took me forever to get kia to replace that. then the replacement transmission went bad less than a year later and they replaced that. now, at 120,000 miles (out of warranty) the motor has died. grindstaff kia in johnson city, tn tells me it is a 'internal failure' of the motor, it could be a rod or cam, but they would not know unless they took the motor apart. kia's product is terrible and a safety hazard. when the motor stopped my husband was in 65 mile an hour traffic and could have been injured when it started to loose power and then the starter stuck and wires started smoking which could have caused a fire. my motor was a 4 cylinder 2.4 liter engine that needs to be recalled by kia for failures. they want to chage me $5500 plus tax to put another engine in the junk, which to me is adding good money to bad product. i also still owe a bank $$ for this car which is going to be negative equity i'm sure. kia should stand behind it's product and recall this engine which is junk. i will not buy kia again, that is for sure!
2011 kia sorento was parked in the attached garage at 7:30 pm. it had a nearly full tank of gas. no problems were noted. my son went cycling the next morning at 5:30 am and returned at 7:30 am. he went into the garage to turn on sprinkler system. nothing out of the ordinary was noticed. at approximately 7:45 am he started taking a shower. a few minutes later he heard a loud pop. then a few minutes later another loud pop. then a few seconds later the lights went out. then he heard a loud banging at the front door. a man was yelling that the garage was on fire. my son and another young man who was renting one of the bedrooms in the house escaped without injury. the fire department responded and extinguished the fire but the car the attached garage were completely destroyed. the rest of house suffered extensive smoke and water damage. see attached picture taken at 7:59 am. garage is totally engulfed in flames. fire investigators determined that the fire appeared to be center at the front of the 2011 kia sorento. the car was totally destroyed. investigators hired by the home insurance company were not able to determine what component in the engine compartment failed and caused the fire. not enough left to be certain. kia motors usa has stonewalled us all the way. they sent people twice to make sure there was not something else in the garage to blame the fire on and to make sure that the fire investigators made a definitive determination of of what component failed or otherwise had to say it was undetermined. they also hired a local law firm to observe all the investigation efforts. intimidation and stonewalling is what kia has provided to us. my concern is that someone is going to have to die before kia and hyundai admit they have defect in their engine manufacturing process and get it fixed.
I am having issues with engine stall or wont start then oil is going somewhere and no clue where. i thought i had a great vehicle when i bought it didnt know there was any issues with it. but i am afraid to even drive it that something would happen while i am out with the grandbaby an family.
I was driving down the highway when all of a sudden my car completely stopped accelerating. i got it pulled over to the side of the road and the engine was seized up. i had it towed to a mechanic shop where he told me that everything else in my car looked great (i get my oil changed on a regular basis and take very good car of my car). he said he was clueless and had no idea why the engine would just seize out of no where. i called the kia consumer and they will not do anything about it, even
Car loses power when applying gas, then stalls out. i stop and wait for few minutes, then start the car and drive off like nothing happened. it otherwise drives perfect until the random stalling
I was driving in my in my neighborhood when i came to a stop sign. i went to accelerate and my vehicle had turned off. i couldn't get it to turn over. i waited a couple of minutes and then tried to start it again and i was able to get it started so i drove it home. the antifreeze was completely empty so i put more in it. the vehicle continued to over heat so i took it to a mechanic and i have a blown head gasket, and now i need a new engine.
After driving about 6 miles to a local store nearby and back home as i pulled my car into my parking spot black smoke started coming from the hood so i turned the car off waited until the smoke stopped and looked under the hood to see if i could tell what was smoking. everything appeared fine and i made sure to check all of my fluid levels and oil which were all full. later that day maybe 4 hours later i drove about 15 miles to my sisters house and again as i was parking my car the black smoke started again from under the hood. i proceeded to turn the car off and look under the hood again after the smoke cleared. less than 5 minutes later the was a loud popping noise from under the hood and by the time i ran outside to see the entire front part of my car was engulfed in flames however the windows were up so the flames were contained inside the car and under the hood. the fire department came minutes later and put the fire out and i had to have the car towed due to the front tires melting from the fire. i had it towed back to the dealership where i'd purchased it only 5 months before and let them and financing company know. no one could explain why my car spontaneously combusted like a bomb while parked and turned off. i'm reporting this incident because i do not believe it was a freak accident i believe these vehicles should definitely be investigated before someone loses their life.
Car engine seized while operating. had to be towed. been in kia dealership service since june 2018 it is now october 13. still no engiene.
