I was going to my sister-in-laws house to pick up my son. while going about 55mph down a rural road i seen a flash on the road that seemed to come from the front left tire and realized my kia had caught fire. i pulled to the side of the road and immediately ran to the nearest house for help. it was only a matter of seconds and my whole vehicle was on fire.
All controls on steering wheel stopped working around 120,000 miles. bluetooth, radio controls and cruise control. all power sockets and usb socket stopped working around 110,000 miles. whining sound coming from engine area when car is on started around 128,000 miles.
Truck doors unlock while driving, alarm goes off randomly while driving or parked, all the fuses blew, starter has been changed 3 times, due to faulty wiring beneath the motor. battery has been changed due to wiring.
Back driver side door will not open, i went online and searched my vehicle and this seems to be an ongoing problem. middle back seat belt is stuck down in the seat and you can't not get it out
My horn stopped working. my transmission went completely out and was repaired a little after a year the transmission completely went out again. the vehicle also stops accelerating. the sorrento seem like a hazardous vehicle and i can't believe there are absolutely no recalls on certain issues. i have read other issues and i'm seeing i'm not the only one with the same issues.
Parked vehicle, front driver side door fails to open from outside handle but will open from inside handle. keyless entry click doesn't sound like it's working right as well. kinda weak sounding. looking at door latch while using key fob for lock/unlock nothing moves but other doors are heard and seen locking/unlocking.
Door handles. first the driver's side front door was unable to be opened from the outside and required replacement. the next handle to break, same issue, was the rear driver's side one. now, the front passenger side door has the same issue, where the door handle will not allow the door to open from the outside. this is a safety issue, especially in the case of an accident or health emergency, and an expensive repair. the most recent handle broke on june 16, 2019. the first handle, the driver's side door, broke in august of 2017. the second door handle broke later that year.
For several months now, the dashboard warning lights have come on, usually four at a time as i'm driving. it seems to happen most often when it's raining. i had the kia dealer in las cruces, nm try to determine the problem when i had the car in for a couple recalls about two years ago. they could not determine the cause of the problem. about 3 months ago i had a shop with a aaa master mechanic try to determine the problem and they also could not determine the reason the warning lights were coming on. they could not find a short in the wiring that i thought might be the cause. the lights eventually go off, usually after the car has not been driven for several hours or overnight. i'm concerned that, although i've not experienced significant problems when the dash warning lights come on, could a possible real safety issue occur if one of the systems indicated by the lights actually malfunction? for a while when the lights came on, the car's steering seemed to be effected--on windy curvy roads the car would definitely over steer on curves, as though someone else were in control. i would appreciate any information you might have on similar problems and how they were corrected. thank you.
The passenger side door handle completely fell off in my hand when i attempted to open the door to get my grandchild out of the car. the car handled was defective and my grandchild remained in a car in extreme heat while i tried to get into the car another way. i crawled over the driver's set and pushed the door open from the inside to be able to pull the child out. i should not have to crawl around in my car to get a minor out of it. nor should anyone be exposed to texas heat for any amount of time due to car failure. called kia customer center and was told to take car to be evaluated at a dealership near me - they chose. the service area didn't even look at the car -- saw the car handle i brought in and said 'well why you bringing it in. it's broke. i can tell that by looking at it." he said he would open a work order that day. no response, i called kia and they called this person who said he was just then writing up the order. weeks later i called kia customer service and i was told that some sales manager (no name, would not provide phone number) had denied covering the repair of the part. i told the kia service to appeal it -- this plastic part is on the passenger side of my car. for 6 years, this car has been used by me exclusively m-f to an from work. once in awhile on the weekends, i take a grandchild to an event or sometimes i have carried husband to ymca.. if the part failed due to use, the drivers side handle should have failed. i looked online after learning from kia that there would not be a recall on this issue. i saw hundreds of people in the same situation i was in - warranty didn't cover it since it was over 70,000 miles. the 'fix' repair is over $500. i saw that a class action is being discussed. since it is always the passenger door handle that fails for 2011 kia, it is obviously due to kia using a substandard part.
Takata recall both of my rear passenger door handles have completely come of not allowing me to open my doors from the outside. the vehicle was stationary when it happened.
My sunroof exploded. it sounded like a shotgun and then raining glass. i was driving with a speed around 35-40 mph when this occurred. it was very traumatic.
The abs light, traction control, and hill acceleration control lights would come on all at once then go back off. then they would remain on but when the car was turned parked they would be off when the car was driven again. now they are on continuously. i am not sure what has caused these lights to come on all at once but i fell like this must be some kind of default. sending to the dealership soon.
Just started having problems with the car dying out when driving. for a while, you could start it right back up and it would not do it again for another week, two weeks, maybe even a month. took it to a car shop and they cannot figure out what's wrong with it, they say everything is coming out normal. but, just dying out is not normal. just recently, car died out while i was waiting in a fast food drive through, it to six tries to get it restarted.
My neighbor bumped the back of the kia with his buick no visible damage to either cars bumpers the kia was in park no one was in it the kia it then started moving down the street it rolled about 400 yards went thru some hedges and then stopped in a neighbors yard no injurys but the vehicle was in park the whole time ,i took the kia to the local kia dealer they had the vehicle 4 days and couldn't replicate what happened i told them i had read about a recall with a similar problem they said my vin # wasn't part of it i feel kia should adress this it wasn't imagined there were 3 or 4 neghbors that saw the empty vehicle just rolling down the street a responce would be appreciated thank you
The front drivers side door will not open from the outside. online research has revealed that this is a common problem & design flaw that kia refuses to recall. extensive labor is required to fix the problem (broken plastic clip inside the door), resulting in expensive repair bills.
Cannot open drivers or front passenger side door from the outside. vehicle was stationary in my driveway when this occurred. i have to crawl in my back driver side door to open drivers side door from the inside. this is dangerous not to mention very inconvenient. i have read online that there has been numerous similar complaints. dealerships charging a fortune to replace the outside lock. i simply cannot believe that a recall has not been issued for this problem with kia.

Takata recall, car is making a whinning noise when in idle also when excellerating. i believe this could be intermediate driveshift which is recalled on some cars but not mine. it does seem to be effecting the transmittion sometimes.
My driver side door just stopped working from the outside. it unlocks, but the handle does not open the door. this is such an inconvenience, not to mention a safety issue. i searched and see tons of complaints about the same thing, but no recall. i am so surprised at kia for not taking responsibility
Hello, it seems that the recall sc 089 that was done on my kia did not fix the issue with the transmission. kia should come up with the better solution cause there is a high risk of the transmission failure. we had the same issue with our transmission as described on sc 089 and almost crashed on the highway. kia dealer said it is not their issue cause the repair was done. so even kia aftersales processes do not work as they keep the dangers cars on the road.
We almost died on the highway today! we were turning to highway we stopped and again. unfortunately the car moved only 3 yards and stopped. mechanic says it was the transmission and the recall sc 089 was not done properly or never done before even kia dealer says otherwise.
Cold start chatter... kia issued a redesigned parts. because of a bad design issue on this problem..i feel if the is an issue with the engine and creates this type an issue it ca be a problem. it makes the noise everytime i start it after it sets for long period..
The right and left rear outside door handle cover/cap as come off the car. seems it would be some kind of manufacturing issue that both handles would come off. the replacement part is only about $15 but the dealer wants $100+ to install the replacement. one door handle came off in october 2016 and the other came off this last week in january 2017. i don't mind paying for the replacement part but not the installation costs.
The shift gears wont move. the gear will stay in drive. won't go into reverse or park. when i have to put veh in reverse i have to hold gear in reverse. there has been times when i had to leave my keys in the ignition, leave car in neutral and have emergency brake down. there was a recall on this kia claim they fixed the issue, but i'm still having the same problem.
In the last week, the vehicle shut down completely while driving. the first time it happened on the highway while driving 70mph - the car shut off and dropped to 50mph, the steering wheel locked but it started back up. twenty minutes later while driving 25mph on a side road, the same thing happened. and then again while in a drive thru line. this has since happened twice while on the highway. the vehicle does start back up again but it is obviously unsafe to drive, especially on the highway. after researching the issue, i found there was a recall on 2011-2013 models with the same issue. i contacted kia and was told my vehicle was not part of the recall but to bring it in and have it looked at. i have an appointment on monday, december 19, 2016 to have several other recall items corrected. *tr
Failure of airbags to deplore. accident 12/1/16. insurance company has subsequently rendered the vehicle a totaled lost. accident happened while vehicle was crossing a intersection (city street) and stuck another vehicle in the midsection.
While i was driving at approximately 65 mph, the panoramic sunroof spontaneously detached, flew off, and shattered leaving a gaping hole in the roof. if someone had been driving behind me, they could have been seriously injured or killed. the body shop that replace the sunroof explained that a manufacturing defect caused the failure. i reported this problem to kia, but kia was uninterested. i'm reporting this because i fear that someone could be harmed or killed if their are other sorentos with the same manufacturing defect.
After our purchase of the vehicle, the cancel button would get stuck at the top of the button. therefore not being able to turn off the cruise control system completely. without the brake switch it could cause the cruise control to not disengage.
Over the course of the past 6 months, i have had several problems with the door handles on this 2011 kia sorento. after searching online, ive found its a major problem that kia refuses to recall. this is absurd. the front two doors on the kia will not open from the outside, but will from the inside. one of the back doors has a handle that has broken off after little use. ive read hundreds of stories of this happening and kia needs to make this right. the extensive labor it takes into removing the door handle is the problem for the price. most service dealers want hundreds of dollars to fix a plastic door latch/actuator and that is a rip off. these need to be recalled immediately for safety reasons. if a crash were to happen, and the inside also quits working, how would you exit the vehicle?
Left low beem light is out in my car it is a new bulb.this is the 2nd time it has happened also the lights go out for no reasion i will be driving and they go out, i have to use the on and off lever flick it multipal times to get themto come back on i have taken it to dealler 4 times they cant find out why it dose it also last night for some resion my right door will not open from out side nor the driver side rear door is doing the same thing as of last night ?????????

Driver side door will not open from the out side. the doors are unlocked and the only way to open the door is from the inside of the car. this is a hazard and a safety issue. i have read on many blogs with other kia sorento owner having the same issue. i have a baby, and having to open my driver door from the passenger side crawling through the car.
In the past 3 years i've had two of my external door handles break off without explanation or incident.
My sunroof exploded as i was traveling north on the 605 fry around 6:00 am on 8/31/16. i was no passing under any overhead bridges nor did i experience any debris hitting the car.
Takata recall. i own a 2011 kia sorento. my back door handle (on the drivers side) will not open the door from the outside. the door handle has not worked since 2015. today, august 28, 2016, my passenger door will not open from the outside. there has been no damage to the vehicle that would have created this problem.
Already filed complaint about 2 doors that you cannot open from the outside of the vehicle when unlocked, now i have a 3rd door that won't open from the outside while unlocked. gonna have to climb in from the hatchback pretty soon. they all open from the inside, not the outside. so now i have to leave the child safety locks open all the time, hopefully my 3 yr olds won't pull on the door handle from the inside and fall out of the vehicle. all this within the last 3 weeks. i'm guessing somebody has to die before this will be recalled. going to call dealer today to see what they say.
Kia sorento 2011. parked. first it was one door, just stopped opening from the outside, opens from inside, unless you put child safety lock on, then it won't open at all. then today the other side not opening from the outside. all open from inside, only problem is what to do when all four stop opening from outside. if my kid is in there, falls asleep, and it's hot outside, how do i get the kid out if i can't open from outside, somebody is going to be seriously hurt or killed from this problem. from the looks of things there has been a lot of problems with these doors.
Both front driver and driver passenger doors will not open from the outside. i have to open from the inside. the passenger door broke about 8 months ago. driver side just broke. was working fine then i went to get into the car and door would not open. i have 176000 miles on car. this is a safety hazard.
The read passenger side door on my 2011 kia sorento will not open from the outside. this is a well known problem which kia is resusing to take responsibility for since it is not a "safety issue" according to them. i can not put on the child lock while transporting my child or it will not open from inside or out then. this is clearly a safety issue, as kia tells you to fix it immediately, but will then refuse to reimburse receipts.

On 6/18/16 my driver side front door would not open from the outside. i had been having ongoing problems with the remote key not working also. during routine oil changes, i would ask for the remote key to be checked and the service people would state they could not duplicate the problem. on 6/24/26 i took the car into my local kia service shop. they told me that the latch inside the door needed to be repaired and charged me $400.00. while waiting for my car, i googled to see how much the latch should cost, but instead i happened upon s website car guru and found out that multiple people have been having the same problem. some with multiple door latches gone bad. some have been locked inside the car too. i it old the service guy what i saw on the web and ask why hasn't there been s recall. he respectfully told me to call the manufacturer. i did right then and there and put in a complaint with a kia consumer complaint case manager. other say they have been reporting to kia and they won't recall the faulty latch. not being able to get in and out of your car is very unsafe. this is a widespread problem and we need help. thanks.
I have been having problems on and off with my remote key not locking or unlocking the doors. i've taken my car in for oil changes and have complained about the issue, but service was unable to duplicate this issue. it is still an issue. my main complaint is today i'm in for service because my driver side door will only open from the inside. i'm being charge $475.00 for a latch replacement . i am seeing on the web that multiple people are having the same problem with one or multiple doors on their kia vehicles. kia has not done a recall. i did make a formal complaint to kia consumer affairs today. this is s big safety issue. some folks have been locked inside their vehicles as well,
Driver's door suddenly stopped opening from the outside. it can be opened from the inside. i need to enter the vehicle from the passenger side and climb across. my husband has back problems and is now unable to drive the car because he can't get in by himself. i have 2 young children, and am scared that i will be unable to get them out of the car if other door handles break or malfunction in a similar manner.
Rear door latches both broke within three days of each other. unable to open either door from inside or outside because of the internal child safety locks in place combined with the defective external door latches. the doors would unlock and lock, but still would not open because of the broken door latches.

2 months ago, my driver side door would not open. it doesn't open from the outside with the automatic key nor if you put the actual key in the lock does it open. i have to continuously climb into my car from the passenger side door or leave the window rolled down and unlatch the car door from that way of entry. on saturday, july 16th, i was transporting my son and three friends from baseball game and they couldn't get out of the backseat!!! not only could i not get them out from the outside but now they cannot remove themselves from the inside as well!!! so now all doors except the passenger side door are not in working order!! this is a major safety issue! these boys and myself had to climb out through the passenger side door to get out of the car. what is we were in an accident? what if our car was submersed in water in a lake, river or ditch? what if our car was on fire? we would have no way to escape and we would all have died!! this cannot be a coincidence that first the drivers door doesn't unlock and now 3 out of 4 doors in 3 months do not work?? this is a travesty and kia is responsible for this and needs to recall the car and fix these doors before someone(s) dies from these faulty doors!
