Vehicle lost all power steering. first of many times. was driving as normal and power steering message came on.
The steering is lose with a dead zone in the center. i'm afraid to take it on the interstate because it wonders into other lanes and does not drive straight. the vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it. i have had the alignment done and a new stabilizer bar installed from the dealership with no improvement to the steering. this is the only problem i have with my 2019 jl wur.
The steering has a huge dead spot where the steering wheel turns but does nothing to effect the direction of the wheels. the vehicle wanders from one side of the road to the other. the drag link is also extremely loose.
New wrangler wanders on road and is difficult to keep in lane. tried adjusting air in tires to multiple pressures with little to no improvement. took to atlantic dodge/jeep and was told "drives comparable to other wranglers with electric steering and similar tires. i do not think it is normal to constantly have to fight the vehicle to remain in lanes.
The steering in my jlr feels disconnected and unpredictable'especially at freeway speeds. it's been to the dealer four times for this and i've added some aftermarket parts, which have helped. despite that, it is still not right. there are times that when driving constant corrections are required. there is around 2 to 3 inches of play in the steering wheel. the real problem is that the steering wheel and the steering system don't feel in sync. this occurs at any speed on the freeway or surface streets, but i's most obvious once up to freeway speeds. turning on the freeway, specifically off ramps and mountain highways with turns on accents and descents can be harrowing. we were on us 50 on the way to lake tahoe but had to turn around because we didn't feel safe. i put today's date on the when did this happen field, but it's been since new in april, 2019.
I purchased a 2019 jeep wrangler jl in september 2019 brand new 8 miles on the car . i gave the car to my wife as a gift . so she started complaining about the steering so we took it to the dealer and they replaced a couple of steering parts left the dealer and right away i noticed that it was still driving the same with to much play on the steering . called them right away and they said bring it back then a steering box was replaced still no change hard to keep in the lines some time it has a hard shake on the right front . so we took it back they maid adjustment, still the same wife is scared to drive it . so took it back 7 days later they said nothing wrong it drives as designed so 1 1/2 to 2' play on the wheel is normal still the jeep is all over the lines and to top it off my wife was pulled over by fl key police thing she was drunk and had take a alcohol test and she was clean and let go. this was a horrible for her . we don't want the car anymore what can we do. must of this happens after 45 miles per hour . my contact number is 7862852804
I just purchased a new 2019 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon with a march 2019 build date. as of right now, the mileage is about 300 miles. it's a phenomenal vehicle, except for a problem with the steering that makes driving the vehicle unsafe. there is excessive play in the steering wheel to the point where it's difficult to keep the vehicle centered in the lane, particularly at highway speeds. the most concerning situation is when there is an oncoming car on a narrow roadway. the vehicle tends to wander back and forth, and when you correct it, it sometimes over-corrects. i have not yet raised this issue with the dealer, but will very soon. when i researched to see if the steering can be adjusted, i discovered numerous similar complaints from others about the exact same problem. there clearly is a problem with the steering on the wrangler jl's that jeep needs to address.
Steering wheel shakes violently after going over a minor bump or road roughness while driving at high speeds (55+) on the highway. it will sometimes correct itself and has not been too bad of a shake but over the weekend, i had to slow down from 70mph to 45mph in the middle of i95 b/c the steering wheel shook so bad and would not stop shaking until i slowed my speed down. this was as a result of going over a minor bump in the road. one time it happened while going around a curve in the highway and the "rumble strips" triggered it. this is a brand new car that i purchased in june. this wheel shaking just started a few weeks ago. please look into this matter. it is unsafe and can cause an accident whether someone rear ends my vehicle while i am attempting to slow down or i lose control of my car b/c i cannot get the wheel shaking in control.
This vehicle wanders badly on the road at highway speeds. there is several inches of play in the steering wheel. you can turn it several inches and the vehicle doesn't turn. there is significant wander in the steering. dealer looked at it, said yes there is play, but all jeeps are like that. so, all jeeps are dangerous? need your help to get fca to fix this.
Steering feels extremely loose and requires constant minor corrections while driving at any speed.
This enterprise rent a car owned jeep has under 14,000 miles on the odometer. at highway speed above about 70 mph, a small bump or trigger such as an overpass expansion joint, initiates violent shaking and bouncing of the front end. the shaking does not dissipate until the vehicle is slowed to about 30 mph. this problem is easily repeatable. highway speed + little trigger yields violent shaking. the shaking is so strong that 2 hands on the wheel are needed to keep the vehicle from careening out of control.
Follow on to last weeks initial input of case number 11257557 nhtsa # ref: vin number [xxx] received a safety recall note to immediately come to a dealership and get the steering stabilizer fixed or replaced. (note i didn't have any issue driving for the past 4 months until this recall note.) i did that (went to faricy boys colorado springs dealership. they replaced a part or two.in approx. 2 hours. next day drove it and it was a lot worse, i took it back to the same dealership.....they then replaced the steering box and the pitman arm. (receipt attached) it took them 2 days to do that. i then drove it again.....it was a lot worse i pulled over on the road and looked underneath the vehicle. i noticed wet marks all over the parts under the vehicle as if something was leaking (pictures attached) i took it back again and again all they did was use a cleaner on the one section underneath and said all is good. i took more pictures of the issue and you can see more wet areas under the vehicle. i stated either they spilled something when they pulled the part or something was not tightened at this point causing the leaking now. they said all was good. the vehicle was smelling of something burning under the vehicle. i then took it to a vehicle cleaning service to get the whole undercarriage cleaned to stop the bad smell and de-greased the complete underneath of the vehicle. today again the vehicle is driving (wandering as driving on the road) i took another video again because of the way it was wondering and pulled into the right lane as i am driving ....totally unsafe to drive at this moment. the dealership stated today...there is nothing else we can do for the vehicle. stated by cory tidwell service department. i tried to contact [xxx] the service dept manager no luck. then tried to contact [xxx] general manager. no call information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I have a brand new 2019 jeep jl 4 door wrangler sport, has less than 1000 miles and notice the problem right after purchase driving home 2 homes from dealership. at first i thought it was just me after driving a dodge ram pickup for the last 10 years and figured it was a big difference in the steering. took our first 4 hour trip and notice that the jeep was pulling to right and that there was a lot of play (2-4 inches) in the steering, that by the time i got done my driving i was exhausted. took the jeep into local jeep dealership service to have checked. they determined that alignment was out of specs and fixed. took another 4 hour trip last weekend and the steering was worst. to keep jeep driving in a straight line i had to keep steering wheel turned to left slightly. whenever i tried to straighten steering wheel the jeep would drift to right again and steering had just as much or more play in it as before. just took it back into service and they said they couldn't duplicate the problem and that it was probably just the "crown in the road" that was causing the problem. i came home and researched my problem and found this website where i see i'm not the only one with the problem. this seems to be a known issue that needs to be addressed and recalled to fix properly or there will be crashes and i pray to god no fatalities.
While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle experiences violent shaking after going over a series of bumps. it becomes very difficult to maintain your lane. it is only remedied by slowing to less than 60mph. i have been able to replicate the issue several times. it has happened over a dozen times over the past month. i have 8000 miles on the vehicle.
I noticed steering play with the vehicle during some points its difficult to keep it in a lane especially during highway travel. then when i was under the vehicle installing a trailer hitch i started noticing pitted, incomplete, disconnected and (possibly rusty) welds on a vehicle that has a build date of only two months prior.
As i drove off the lot i noticed the instrument panel had a distortion on it. dealership was unable to fix (after a software upgrade). more concerning is the car shakes violently when hitting a bump in the road. i took it in 3 times without resolution. always on the highway, at first at high speeds, now even going below the speed limit. sometimes it resolves on it's own, but lately i have to slow down or stop to make the shaking stop. (which is very dangerous when driving on a 65mph highway), the steering wheel shakes left to right and is very loose during these times. i feel very unsafe and it feels like the wheels are going to fall off. this is a brand new vehicle. it happened 5 times on a 15 mile trip to work this morning and has been happening since i bought the car in late february 2019.
Handling while driving at freeway speeds is terrible. the steering constantly wanders and requires not stop corrections to maintain lane position. if any bumps in the road or wind is present, the risk of wandering into another lane is greatly increased and i have narrowly avoided several collisions with other vehicles already.
I picked up my new jeep at the dealer and went not even a couple blocks away and noticed the steering was really sloppy. the dealer called to get my email and i told them about it. they said bring it back, which i did today( the next morning.) too much play, constant corrections, drifted. i just dropped it off and they said it had a steering damper recall on the vehicle. this is my 3rd jeep wrangler(1999 and 2004) were my other ones and they were fine. jeep needs to address this asap. it is not safe and i am not very hopeful this recall will fix it.
The steering is sloppy with 2-4 inches of "play" in the steering wheel when driving. i have had the recall done for dampener replacement, but it still tries to "walk" the road side to side due to the slack in the steering. i am told this is an issue with the electrical assist, but it needs addressed. i drive for hours and having to fight this back and forth the entire time is unsafe. also, the windshields are not sloped enough for areas where there are many bugs. the windshield becomes so congested with splattered bugs it's hard to see. the washers and wipers cannot scrape away the debris either because the impact is so hard is plasters them to the glass, and takes high pressure water or vigorous scrubbing to remove. this is a poor windshield design flaw that most every other automobile does not have an issue with.
During highway driving my jeep wrangler drifts slowly back and forth. i have noticed this since the first time driving on interstate highway. i have complained at dealer in paducah, kentucky and was told it's normal. i also have had electrical issues where the air conditioner quit working. after 3 attempts to fix, the dealer service man found a short in a junction under the hood. after that was prepared, the radio, info. screen went blank. it came back on. a seat back release had to be replaced too. all of this and less than 4000 miles on odometer.
From the moment we purchased this vehicle (09/10/2019) the steering has been a problem. the car requires constant input from the driver to maintain the lane of travel. the steering problem becomes worse with speed and it is a handful at freeway speeds.
I was going around 65 mph on the freeway and i hit a pothole, my jeep started to "death wobble". it stated to violently shake and vibrate almost pulling the steering wheel out of my hand. i slowed down to under 45 mph and it stopped. the violent shaking lasted for about 6-10 seconds. i just purchased the jeep 2 days ago. it is completely stock with the factory tires and the pressure in them was fine. it was also not cold, the high at the time was 97 degrees.
When driving on the highway and we hit a bump or any deformity on the road the jeep would start to wobble uncontrollably it started small at first but it seems to be getting worst and we only had the jeep for 6 months my wife is really scare
Excessive steering wheel play, can't controller straight, need to much input left and right to try to go straight
Same as all the other complaints, steering has to constantly be corrected . wandering all over the road . 19 less than 500 miles
The steering wheel has 1.5-2.5 inches of play, this makes it very hard to drive the vehicle in a straight line. it is really bad when driving on interstates in windy conditions. you can see the imput shaft to the steering gearbox turn, with no output
The vehicle cannot be driven straight, without continuous small adjustments. the steering wheel does not return to the center after the small adjustment so an additional one is needed to keep in the lane. zig zagging. it feels unsafe
The steering is loose, when driving on a freeway at speeds over 60 mph the steering is very sloppy and the vehicle "wanders" inside the lane side to side as you have to continually correct it. this is unsafe.
Vehicle's steering is too loose, vehicle wanders at highway speeds and needs constant correction to keep the vehicle in the lane and straight. overall, i feel the vehicle is not 100% safe to be driving on the highway.
Brand new vehicle, now has 200 miles. from beginning, it tracks to the right when in motion. dealer said alignment is perfect, they cross rotated tires, are in process of trying to figure it out, but i suspect it may be the electronic assist steering inputting right steer for some reason. have heard many complain about steering box issues with jeep jl wranglers, unknown if this is related to that.
Steering wobbles and drifts violently at speeds over 60 mph on the highway. there has also been a water leak under the drivers side steering column that twice now the dealer has not been able to fix, all wiring under the steering wheel is wet after a rain as well as puddles of water on floor mat.this car is a lemon
I just experienced the death wobble on a highway in columbus ohio. i was driving around 65 and hit a small bump and the car started shaking violently. it did not stop after about 60 seconds so i pulled over to the berm. it scared me to death. i felt like i had no control. i started back up and made it safely to my destination. i plan to call local dealer since i am away from where i purchased it originally.
Steering gear has excessive play. no on-center steering response for 1-2" of steering wheel arc length. makes straight driving unsafe by reducing control and increasing the time lag to correct for cross winds, road surface, or other drivers/obstacles. inspection has led to noticing all the play coming from the steering gearbox itself. this happens at all speeds, however the most dangerous is by far straight high-speed highway driving. dealer has been honest and says this is a common complaint. has not been able to identify a guaranteed fix based on experience with other cars to date.*dt *js

2019 jeep wrangler 2dr. jeep can not hold a straight line. requires constant correction input. when correcting it will start to travel in the corrected direction and will continue to travel in that direction until correcting in the other direction. have taken it to the diealership 1x and told there is nothing wrong with it. technician comments on the paperwork "vehicle drove fine and not wonder all over the road". after getting mine back, test drove another 2019 and did not experience the same issue. it was able to hold a straight line with little to no input. have drove other new jeeps that did not have the wonder issue. note the other jeeps have had michelin or goodyear tires. mine has bridgestone. i have been told that this is just the way they drive. i have owned 7 jeep wranglers and none have drove like this. my wife has a 2018 and does not have the wandering issue. this happens at all speeds.
Steering wheel has "dead spot" in the center allowing wheels to free steer a certain number of degrees before steering wheel engages and turns the wheels. this causes driver to over-correct to keep vehicle in the lane. esp noticeable at speed over 45 mph drifting from one side of lane to other and when directions change rapidly like in an s curve. also when turning corners steering wheel and wheels will not return to center. returns as far as the dead spot then will not center without lots of driver input. *ln consumer stated short video jeep driving down highway of me moving my steering wheel side to side with the jeep not turning at all. this is worse with speed and i can take videos from all angles.*jb
On 2 separate occasions, at highway speeds, my 2019 jeep wrangler jl steering locked and made it very difficult/almost impossible to turn in which i cam e very close to crashing into the side wall 2x. took it to the dealer on 7/24/19 and was told that there "were bolts loose" and was causing the issue and should be fine b/c thy test drove the vehicle for ~40 miles. the steering locked again on 8/7/19. i went to the dealership again for the fix and they cannot replicate "the code" and do not have a fix for it. i have contacted jeep customer service and i'm not getting the attention needed for such a critical issue. i am afraid to drive my car and looking for a replacement vehicle from jeep but not receiving timely cooperation. lastly, on 8/4/19, at highway speeds, my wrangler performed the dreaded "death wobble." the dealer is changing the vehicle damper but upon my research, a damper only "masks" the issue and there s a bigger issue at play. for reference, my vehicle was bought brand new in march 2019 and only has ~1,400 miles on it and has never been off-roaded. lastly, all modifications to the vehicle are under warranty and were installed by the dealership (eg. 33" tires)
This vehicle was purchased new from a dealer 5 hours from my home .the drive home included some 2 lane highways but mostly interstate. controlling the jeep and keeping it on the road home was an exhausting and concentrated effort. the steering was everywhere and i'm sure i looked like a drunk driver to most people. today i have driven the jeep to my local dealer only to be told by the female service writer that the jeep will learn my driving after about 1000 miles .she stated she knows this because she has this same style jeep. there is no way this is normal steering .
Very loose steering. it appears a recall has been completed on my vehicle (chrysler v41) to fix this issue, but the issue is still evident. steering wheel has too much play in it when driving, especially at highway speeds.
The steering on this jeep is dangerous. it wonders all over the road. i have to keep both hands on the wheel at all time with a death grip. i feel extremely unsafe driving this jeep. i have taken it to the dealership 4 times now and it has not improved. jeep is now telling me that there is nothing else they can do and i am just stuck with it.
The steering has significant slack/play which causes the jeep to wander requiring constant corrections. this is especially concerning at highway speeds around turns but is still evident at low speeds.
The vehicle won't track straight while driving - it wanders consistently . have had alignment checked . chrysler service says they can't show any thing wrong
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep wrangler. while driving, the contact heard a loud popping noise and the entire console screen failed. the contact stopped and restarted the vehicle, but the entire console screen still failed to function. the contact was still able to drive the vehicle. the contact called cherry hill dodge chrysler jeep ram (1708 w, nj-70, cherry hill, nj 08002, (856) 471-1058) and they asked when she could bring in the vehicle. in addition, the contact stated that after the vehicle being parked for two days at an airport lot, the vehicle was later started and the entire console screen failed and the power steering seized. as a result, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole. the contact's son was medically checked out with an ice pack to the face but no ambulance services were needed. a police report was filed. the front of the vehicle was damaged and it was towed with the rear wheels being locked making it difficult to tow to a tow yard. the manufacturer filed a case and would have an investigator inspect the vehicle. the manufacturer stated it would take two to four weeks until they have some findings on the issue and had not offered a loaner vehicle. the failure mileage was 848.
Bought car brand new 3 days ago and noticed the steering has a lot of play room at speeds over 60, very difficult to stay straight in the lane. when going at slower speeds seems fine.
Dead space in the steering wheel, 2' of play in the wheel where input is put in and no response. loose steering and drift while driving. unable to maintain a straight line without constant steering correction. very noticeable at freeway speeds as the vehicle will want to drift left or right immediately after correcting steering. constantly have to give steering inputs, sawing at the wheel. occurs all the time. more noticeable at higher speeds. feels unsafe to operate. jeep claims this is normal and how the vehicle was designed.
While driving the vehicle forward, the steering wheel has slop in it. i cannot keep it straight. i'm constantly having to correct the wheel. i have returned the vehicle to the dealership 3 times and they are not fixing it. the vehicle was purchased new and now has 1300 miles on it. it is very unsafe to drive. it feels like driving an old farm tractor.
Purchased vechile new when driving on the highway at speeds 50 mph and over, there is to much play in the steering. you have to constantly correct the steering, took it to the dealer they said they found the alignment pin upside down and corrected. drove the vechile home. but once you get on the highway at speeds over 50 mph it still does the same thing. vechile only has 150 miles on it. have many people with the same complaint.
Vehicle steering feels loose and wanders. steering wheel has dead spot at center where steering input has no effect on vehicle direction. it is absolutely unsafe to drive vehicle on tight narrow road as constant steering correction is required to keep vehicle straight.
We purchased the vehicle 7/2019. it was a transfer from another dealership and we did not test drive this particular vehicle. we have test driven the same model before and had no issues. on our way home, we noticed that the car has very loose steering. there is "give" approximately 2 inches to either side and the vehicle is difficult to keep in lane. we took the vehicle back to the jeep service department and they could not find anything wrong. they claim the pcm is up to date and the stabilizers are new. the dealership says there is nothing they can do. this vehicle, in my opinion, with the loose steering is potentially dangerous to drive. search through multiple jeep wrangler jl fourms show multiple complaints of the same issue.
Steering has a dead spot in the wheel with about 2 inches of play. constantly have to make corrections. very hard to stay on road
