Problems with 2018 Jeep Wrangler ENGINE

On average, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 6 048 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure to start, randomly when vehicle is stationary. visible pertaining component parts such as battery, ignition switch, starter and voltage all in good order. after 30 minute waiting period car will start. steering wheel movement when exiting vehicle appears to trigger problem, quite often. has occurred 8 times in 4 months. dealer showed no error codes.

Audible ticking coming from engine compartment

Vehicle seems to rev up on its own/gas pedal feels like it sticks

Drove into the gas station, put my jeep in park, put the emergency break on, turned it off and proceeded to fill up the tank, i did not top the tank off, got back in my jeep started it back up, engine started fine, released emergency break put jeep in drive put foot on gas to proceed out of the gas station jeep pulled out of the gas bay and i drove forward slowly, while turning left out of the bay. i drove forward with my foot on the gas about 20 feet. all of a sudden the jeep came to a stop and shut off while still in drive. i would press on the gas pedal to move forward and nothing would happen it just remained stationary.. all electronics still worked in the car. i put the car in park, turned on my hazards turned the jeep off and then back on, and engine was not starting. turned it on and off 3 more times and finally the engine started back up on the 4th time and i was able to drive away. this has not occurred again, but i have not driven it other than 20 miles back home where it now is sitting waiting to go to the jeep dealership.

Operating vehicle in 4 low mode, descending a modest grade off road, experienced unintended vehicle acceleration when foot was off gas pedal

2018 jeep jl (all white) has paint turning yellow from excess heat in the engine area. jeep has less than 300 miles on it. areas affected include front grill, right front fender. primarily on driver's side. not an isolated incident - see https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/bright-white-grille-turning-yellow.6394/ .

While operating the vehicle, i encountered severe tightness from the steering wheel. disabling me to turn left or right, typically on the highway while accelerating. if i was to turn the vehicle's steering wheel for a slight curve or turn the vehicle would remain straight making the vehicle impossible to make the appropriate adjustment. vehicle was pulled to safety for a reset ( turning off the engine for 5 mins before restarting). upon accelerating the tightness of the steering wheel began, eventually causing the engine to stall.

I have a 2018 sahara with approx 1500 miles on it. since day one i have felt like its idled rough a constant heavy vibration in the engine so much so that you can physically see the plastic windows of the soft top moving and the front tires and the seats shaking. i have took it to the dealer twice but dealership didn't help !i had 5 wranglers and all my previous cars didnt do this every car i have had idles smooth and consistent ! i need a solution !

Vehicle driven fo approximately 30 minutes with no apparent issues. average speed about 40 to 50 mph. driver smelled a concerning odor, pulled into a parking, got out of vehicle and noticed a flame. she called 911and vehicle became fully engulfed. vehicle is a total loss. after some research, it appears this is an issue with jeep.

When i first turn on the heater on cold morning, a maple syrup smell like antifreeze comes out of the dash vents. my coolant overflow tank looses about 1/4" coolant in 2000 miles. i believe there is a pin hole leak in the heater core. the dealer did a pressure test, but the leak must be too small to detect. the smell is nauseating and i understand antifreeze vapor is toxic..

Electrical issues incl but not limited to: gauge readouts incorrect, ecm not allowing proper shifts. engine problems with the valve lifters making noise and broken.

Vehicle stalled in highway, stop and go traffic for no reason and was extremely hard to restart. a few days later, the radio and backup camera went out and came back an hour or so later. the radio, which controls all electronics and backup camera, went out again. dealer replaced some sort of interface for the infotainment system (radio) on 07/30/18. then vehicle stalled again in highway, stop and go traffic on 08/03/2018 and was difficult to restart. then, on 08/09/2018, a battery charge warning came on and they replaced the alternator. what is even more troubling, is these very problems are all over the internet. all work has been covered under warrantee but i have wasted the better part of two full days driving to/from the dealer or waiting in the waiting room. i have filed a complaint with fca (jeep). it appears as though the electrical system jeep engineers have designed for these wrangler rubicon jls is flawed to say the least.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 jeep wrangler. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the service stability control and passenger air bag warning indicators illuminated. additionally, the 'until you reach a desired location you may not be able to shift again until serviced' warning message illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (straub chrysler dodge jeep ram, 1502 wheeling ave, glen dale, wv 26038, 855-518-0395), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 831.

While starting the vehicle for the third time in two days after picking up the car following a pcm flash for a cruise control recall, i noticed the prnd lights flashing on the shiftier approximately 10 seconds after vehicle start. i subsequently received a cel and a "service shifter' message. i shut off the vehicle, let all displays go dark, and restarted; the cel went away. i proceeded to continue my drive home. about 10/15 min later, i noticed the lights flickering once again on the shifter. i once again elected to continue home as it was late at night. approximately 2/3 miles later, i received errors on the start/stop and traction control systems. the vehicle appeared to go into a "limp mode" - i it would not shift out of 8th gear and i experienced reduced power and an inability to maintain the posted 70 mph. i decided to exit at the next off-ramp as i could maintain 65mph. while exiting, i noticed the gauge needles (speedo and tach) sweep and got airbag warnings. i heard the electric fan go 100% high (very loud) and i lost power steering. i pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the vehicle. after letting it sit for approximately 5 min, i restarted the vehicle and while the cel remained no other errors were illuminated or presented. i was less than 2 miles from a jeep dealer and decided to try to continue there on access roads. about 1/8 mile down the road, i once again lost power steering and say various error messages like before. i pulled into a parking lot and aborted my attempts and called for a tow to the dealer less than a mile away. posted are pictures of the errors read using an obd-2 scanner i had in the glove compartment. while i have driven cars without power steering in the past, it was rather difficult with the larger ~32" tires and i am not sure a crash could be prevented if a smaller person was driving.

Constant stalling a any speeds dealers cannot fix problem

Unintended acceleration: bought a 2018 jeep wrangler rubicon on 14 may 2018. on 15 may 2018, i brought it to the car wash. after pulling out of the car wash onto to adjacent road, vehicle accelerated without any interaction from myself. i pressed the brakes and the vehicle continued to rev the engine as i released the brakes, the vehicle continued to accelerate. i continued to tap and them slam the brakes to bring the vehicle to a halt. on the vehicle screen, it indicated something along the lines of "electronic throttle requires service" and had the icon for the "stop-start" feature as disabled with an exclamation point. after getting the vehicle under control and out of traffic, i was able to cycle the engine by powering off. the problem did replicate. but i brought it directly to the dealership, where they diagnosed faults (but unaware of those faults.) i received poor service from gator chrysler jeep who said they'd look at it but it was most likely a cruise control issue (not true as the vehicle started under 20 mph and tapping the brakes did not stop the acceleration.) vehicle is currently being examined at boniface-hiers jeep.

As i was exiting the highway i noticed that flames were coming out of the jeep. i merged two lanes over to try to turn on a side street and lost control of the steering. i put the jeep in park, turned it off, and exited the vehicle. we ran up a near by hill, turned around and the entire jeep was engulfed with flames. it burned for an hour. it is a complete loss. *tt *dt*jb
